>VN's are now available via steam
>have been voting for otome games on Greenlight all day every day since it started
>mfw they start coming out
I blame greenlight.
No way, now I can watch anime but without the animation!
>has never played them
>I don't like things
Hopefully Steins;Gate will get on. That'll guarantee good sales, and more stuff from the series will probably get translated.
I looked up the devs, they're a bunch of gaijins.
I bet they never even graduated from a prestigious Japanese high school before. Not authentic enough for me.
So what? Not anime.
the new ones have that shitty 2D CG and move all the time
I hope steam removes this cancer called greenlight.
c ... can you hide them from your games library?
i don't want people to know
Welcome to /a/! Shall I give you a tour?
is this an otome game or an rpg? one of the screenshots is a giant scorpion battle
Can't wait for Maiden Rape Assault - Violent Semen Inferno to come out on Steam.
I read that as "stream" instead of steam at first.
Couldn't you already get Higurashi off Steam months ago
Why would i let people know i play VN´s?.
But that shit was made by some weeabos or it's a genuine VN?
do you even know what an otome game is?
>VN's becoming mainstream
This is canadian - Not japanese
You're missing the point.
You're right, because no choices are made.
There's more made by gaijin but there's at least one Korean VN on Greenlight right now.
If the gaijin ones do well, Japanese games will probably follow.
>That awful OP
Fuck this shit.
>having friends autistic enough to browse your gaming library and dumb enough to care about the games you play
VNs > video games
I wonder when they put that german VN in.
You are also not japanese
>having friends autistic enough to put KS in thier steam library and name it something like "cripplefuckersdelux"
>Having friends at all.
Wait you actually think moving a cursor to make choices is gameplay?
haha Let me laugh even harder at you.
I love this game. Not even gonna lie.
More like, Fading Farts.
>What kind of books do you read?
>I play CYOA books.
I farted when i was reading this.
Well steam friends aren't real friends.
I play Violent Semen Inferno on Steam but name it *Half Life 3 exe* like the cool kids do it.
Hopefully, JAST puts SG finds a way to get it on there. If Higurashi can get voted on, surely it can.
Fuck the chocolate event.
so if I make a mediocre Ren'py VN and get it greenlit I can make real money now?
Although it is quite autistic to get upset about someone saying they are going to "play" a VN, I do have to agree that the term "reading" is probably more appropriate.
>What is a text based RPG
You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, please stop typing.
They are on a fucking online video game store.
Why would you want normals infesting the last frontier?
>I make a choice to flip the page of a book!
>it instantly becomes a game!
You guys are beyond retarded.
The difference is that 07th expansion/Ryukishi is a bro who gives shout outs to fan translators.
5pb. just opened their own new download service, MAGINO DRIVE. They might see Steam as competition.
>having non /a/non steam friends
>that fucking art
Steam is dead
Unless you are reading fucking children books, I don't know what books have visual representation of the actions you choose.
Nigger, you dont 'play' VNs, you read them, unless they have point n click elements then there is no gameplay bar picking a choice. I enjoy VNs, but honestly, they aren't video games, and shouldn't be judged as such.
>Lots of shitty "western VNs" accepted
>Truly good VNs rejected
It will never catch on because normals don't like reading.
Seriously, why are grown men ashamed of their hobbies?
Don't forget now mangagamer is providing digital downloads of untranslated Ryukishi works in association with witch hunt and spiderlilytranslations.
>dat furry transformation
I screamed in terror.
What are comic books.
What is manga. No, wait, it's a children book.
>They are on a fucking online video game store.
Just look at all those games
ITT: /a/ tries to be experts on what is classified as a video game
>VNs have been rated by ESRB, PEGI, and CERO
>They've been recognized as games by game rating boards in North America, Europe, and Asia
You are beyond retarded.
>No mention of Narcissu
Literally blew the fuck out of greenlight, and is going to hit free to play
It's going to draw a huge crowd of people to vn's, even if they only download it to test it since it's free
Steam sees this and then we're going full Jap
Goddamn, Haeleth and insani would be proud if they were still alive to see this day.
Now realize how stupid you are.
>ITT: /v/ tries to be experts on what is classified as a video game on /a/
Do you know what VN stands for?
Got it? Good. Now look at the second word. What do you generally do with those?
You know I was talking about gameplay, right? not them actually being considered games.
I feel conflicted.
Narcissu was great and all, and I'm glad it's getting more recognition, but at the same time I don't want VNs coming to steam.
>/a/ tries to talk about something
>/v/ catches wind of it and goes full metal autist
Stick my dick into them.
VNs aren't the only Japan's gem that has found its way into Steam.
>now I can watch anime but without the animation!
So pretty much no difference then?
Be honest anon, when was the last time you ever played anything?
Then I would agree with you.
Great, now I will have to worry that some VN I'll get in the future will enforce steam on me like vidya do now.
Would you say planescape isn't a videogame because there's a lot of reading involved?
Who gives a shit when you got DOUBLE DRAGON NEON!
How autistic do you have to be that you have to put something under a certain genre instead of just moving on? How many VNs have you actually played?
pls no, it was fucking horrible. It had the greasy, sweaty stink of bicycle sneat sniffers and future child abducters all over it.
Not him but, casuals and normals, they tend to fuck everything they touch.
"Visual novels are distinguished from other game types by their extremely minimal gameplay. Typically the majority of player interaction is limited to clicking to keep the text, graphics and sound moving (most recent games offer "play" or "fast-forward" toggles that make even this unnecessary)."
Oh, sorry, I forgot you were an expert on the matter.
There's no fucking point. Almost no actual decent company will hop into the bandwagon. VNs will never get big in the west.
It has more than JUST reading and choosing from options, it havs, you know, actual gameplay?
You're an ass Haze.
You missed the entire point of my post. VN is a visual NOVEL. It's in the fucking name.
There are already pretty bad casualized visual novels, them getting on steam will bring more, but it will also encourage more gems, and get translations for great ones that never made it into english
dota2 about 20minutes ago.
They can barely even read subs dude
A lot of VNs have gameplay too, Duel savior did, and even little busters had the baseball minigame.
And picture books consist of mostly pictures, that doesn't mean they're not books any more does it?
No, its just a fucking text-based rpg that had a different name slapped onto it.
TF2 three years ago
VNs being in Steam in no way will make JAST speed up their translations, or convince Ixrec, or anyone on that matter, to translate Baldr Sky, for example.
Sure, I'm going to pay 10€ to show my powerlevels to the world.
Is Zork not a game?
Good. I don't want casuals playing Ace Attorney games. Capcom would just make the games easy and add shitty topical humour and memes.
>money isn't an incentive
Both 'playing' and 'reading' is correct, I wouldn't classify all VNs as games though.
S;G will never be on Steam. JAST tried, but it's just not feasible.
Other all-ages VNs will probably inevitably end up on Steam sooner or later, though. Too bad there are hardly any of those.
VNs go on some combination of /jp/, /v/, and /vg/.
But the majority of VNs DONT have gameplay, as I stated in a previous post, the VNs without gameplay aren't videogames, why do you insist on having to define them as such instead of just going to play/read another one?
Whoa dude there's a ton of nerdlingers getting totally whipped up because of some retarded opinion one nerdlinger has. How utterly lame-o!
Selecting choices is gameplay
Money may be incentive, but in no way this will influence these things, because it simply won't grow big. There's a huge stigma against porn in the west. Western players are unable to understand that VN companies are forced to put porn in their stuff otherwise it simply won't sell.
I never said a VN isn't a game. I said using the term "reading" a VN is more appropriate than "playing" it because its primary driving force is reading, not playing.
Show me where is says "novels" or even "books".
Why do you insist on trying to define them?
The fact of the matter is that they are video games.
You're the one whose trying to argue that the definition of a videogame is something so static. Bring me the definition of a videogame that's not being pulled out of your ass.
So, if I put a choose your own adventure book into a pdf with clickable 'choices' would that make it a game? What about Kinetic Novels, where no actual choices are made?
Just give them time. Steam Music is on the way.
Well, I'll agree with that much.
Yes and no, respectively
Yes, it would become a text-based RPG.
Good lord, I didn't think you guys would actually care about this.
MOO2 an hour ago. Best space strategy game ever.
More of just some butthurt faggots.
No decent series on Friday. We are bored.
When /a/ and /v/ share the boards, you know a subject they are "knowledgeable" at would get more attention.
Fucking disgusting. Meanwhile japanese VN get real releases. Settling for this shows they'll get away with it too.
Choose your own adventure book are classified as 'gamebooks' so yeah I guess
Nothing will stop the tide of angry nerds apparently. Not even GOTY 2014.
It's funny because they claim to be "knowledgeable" towards a medium where they can't read even 5% of the works.
Never, fucking krauts
Are you underage?
Fucking dweebs bro
Apparently the guy who wrote Spice and Wolf also has one on there.
People who care about this should understand that this has a really small chance of actually making an effect in the VN industry. Even if we get money as a motivation, the pain you have to go through to translate a VN is ridiculous. And most of the masterpiece works, even if they focus on the plot, still have a minimum amount of sex scenes, which will make it hard to put on steam. Cutting them off will imply having to modify scripts and even calling seyuus back to voice them. A trouble which most companies have no interest in going through.
you are now aware the difference between last of us and uncharted from any visual novel is "interaction" between plot points
I buy hard copies of VNs because it'll either help spark the market, or they'll just become that much more rare.
I've got an English hard copy of Ever17 that goes for hundreds of dollars now.
>Cutting them off will imply having to modify scripts and even calling seyuus back to voice them. A trouble which most companies have no interest in going through.
Every VN worth reading is either Non-H or had an all-ages remake.
Fuck this autistic argument, the only real winning move is not to play.
What VN's are you guys currently reading? What translations are you currently waiting for? What is your favourite VN you have played? Why are Kanji so fucking hard to learn jesus christ all I want to do is masturbate to delinquent lolis, fuck?
On my second route of Symphonic Rain currently, I skipped a fair deal of 'babbys first VNs' when I started with them, so I recently went back and read Narcissu and True Remembrance. I'm looking foreward to Subahibi to be translated, I've heard its pretty good, as well as waiting for F/HA to be finalised. My favourite is probably Maburabu.
Fuck off retard.
No one is saying that VN are video games.
However they are games, without the video part.
Fear a year ago.
Do OELVN's count?
Most big VNs already have all ages versions for consoles. The script rewriting and voice acting points wouldn't be a problem.
I could have spoiled Symphonic rain for you
His girlfriend is dead and became the fairy, and tortalini is writing the letters. Also the rain is a delusion
I choked up in tears during Lise's route.
No, several VNs which are worth reading don't have all ages version. Only masterpieces which actually sold well end up having such versions. Just like in anime, you have works which are overshadowed and not recognized by people in general.
Fucking hell, why can I never resist hovering over them.
I only say the first part of the second line, but I already figured his GF was dead after reading a previous spoiler about the rain being in protag-kuns mind only.
Reading Chaos;Head, though my save got deleted when I reinstalled my OS, so I'm having to figure out which delusions I triggered and stop myself from skipping past them.
Waiting on Baldr Sky being translated. ;_;
As long as they aren't shit
Lise would have been better off without Chris at all, I really liked her too.
I'm sorry anon, I feel bad now.
Ahahaha good luck waiting for that. It's stalled forever, son.
/v/, you guys are not a bad bunch.
But come on, you have an entire board for bitching about Steam and lamenting its death even though you spend 10 hours a day logged into it.
Jokes on you, I've been playing VNs on Steam for a while now.
Its my fault, I knew it was an actual spoiler and I still couldn't resist.
I'm following a few right now. The general on /vg/ a few interesting ones.
Waiting on I/O, editing hell is suffering.
Favorite is SnK I'd say.
I know how you feel, I've spoiled myself like that several times.
I just can't help myself, and there's nobody but yourself to blame
*has a few
Currently reading Flyable Heart. Planning on picking up Daitoshokan after that. So far I've been liking it very much, but mainly because of Max/Akira and that student council president who I forget the name every fucking time. Seems that after a few hours through it, I'm finally getting used to reading moege, so I guess this has been my biggest development so far regarding my reading skills in japanese. I'm currently in Minase's route, and plan on going through Kururi's and Akira's (not sure if she has a route or just a sex scene though). The heroines are pretty cute I guess but don't have any kind of "unique" vibe to them, except for maybe Yui, who is pretty similar to the MC in general (both of them love eating, etc.). I wish the days lasted a bit longer, since sometimes afternoon and night are completely skipped.
As expected of cancer!
Sharin was great, really need to replay all of ACBsoft2's works knowing the twists, but SnK definately pulled it's twists off much better than Maou did, yet its biggest drawback was a fair amount of sections where nothing happened.
I/O's script's been finalized, it's just that there are a lot of bugs that need to be worked out.
You can interact with Zork more than you will ever do in VN.
>not playing Recettear 24/7
Can you fuck cute animu girls in Zork?
This is an American made VN. Wait until Higurashi gets translated and put on steam, then the VNs will come rolling in.
Fuck off cancer
Borderlands 2 because a friend just got it and would like to team up.
I liked most sol scenes in Sharin so I didn't mind as much but at points they really took a bit too long.
On the other hand, I found practially every twist in Maou so obvious, the whole thing just left me disappointed.
Anyway, looking forward to Loosefags next VN, whenever that might come out.
Then you should start posting this in the best key girl threads.
Then people can bitch about Ryukishi's art all over again.
>Make huge post about the VN I'm reading
I guess I'll stay in the VN threads in other boards.
Sometimes the shithead mods delete them, other times they don't give 2 shits.
