I made a joke to a friend recently saying "Gurren Lagann is DBZ with Mecha and fan service."
He now insists that GUrren Lagann is much better than Dragon Ball Z.
Do people actually think this?
Because it is
its not 200 episodes
Who the fuck talks about anime outside of /a/?
youtubem reddit, facebook, twitter
DBZ is awful, and the manga got stale a little after the saiyans started popping in.
Do people actually think DBZ is good?
Take off the nostalgia goggles.
Sometimes people have friends you see.
Sometimes these friends like the same media, like anime.
Sometimes these "friends" will talk about what they enjoy.
You need the goggles on because you need to remember most of the cliche characters originated in this show, so it wasn't overdone yet when Toriyama did it.
What are you doing here, casual?
>any good if not for MUH NOSTALGIA
>95% of the show is filler shit
>2 of the three main villains are pure and simple edgy nonsense literally made out of phlebotinum and plot devices
>power level autism
>abysmal development after Frieza
Deadman Wonderland is easily a better anime than this embarassing shit.
>Obviously didn't read the manga
I bet you watched it dubbed too.
Anime is pretty mainstream you fucking faggot.
ITT: Baby's first troll.
It's not like the manga is good either, just slightly less shit.
>implying Bruce Faulconer didn't make the English version shit all over the Japanese dub
It's slightly less shitty.
Anyway we're comparing anymays here.
Except the pacing actually makes the story 100X better without all the stupid fillers.
The manga went downhill as soon as the Z part started.
But it still has the shitty characters, repetitive plot points, boring beamspam fights.
Everything after King Piccolo sucked dick.
>watching DBZ subbed
I'd say your friend has good taste, but that's just too obvious. If anything, I'd coldly stare at anybody who thinks otherwise.
... You don't think DBZ is better, right?
This franchise has graced us with possibly the single most autistic, overpowered, offensively retarded main villain ever.
I was fucking 10 when I watched this shit for the first time, I was 10 and I didn't even know what anime or 4chan were, but in every scene this faggot was in, with every gigantic childish asspull of his, in every poor attempt to make an embarassingly character look evil, epik, powerful, scary, I cringed hard.
I was 10 and I learned the feeling of cringing even before becoming an ultrabeta harem MC-tier faggot, thanks to Bu.
I think they're on the same level.
Both are just cliches of their respective genres.
DBZ plays cliches straight, TTGL does it tongue in cheek and is much more self-aware. It's a love letter to the mecha genre, while DBZ is just a badly aged battle shounen manga.
I find that the vast majority of people who shit on DBZ have never once read the manga in their life. The entire reason DBZ gets shit on is solely because of the anime.
Frankly, if DBZ's anime was done like the manga, it wouldn't have gotten even half the shit it does now. BoG is a step in the right direction, but besides movies what needs to happen is that they go back and redo the DBZ anime, and I'm not talking about the half assed DBZ Kai. I mean an entirely different studio doing the animation from scratch.
No more than 100 or so episodes, no filler, no yelling and screaming for 30 minutes, and animate the fights extremely well. A DBZ anime that stays true to the manga is alot harder to criticize, and will be much more enjoyable to people as a whole.
>not a parody of the Cell/Freezer saga
Nigger, Toriyama is funnier than any Gainax shit.
No amount of good animation and cut screams and fillers can justify >>101685098
How is an eventual new DBZ anime going to improve if the source material is shit to begin with?
I learned something today, I always assumed that TTGL had it's popularity from casual American fans. (You know the ones I mean)
I haven't watched it since it came out, I feel like I need to see it again now, I just didn't think it was as good as you're all claiming.
I own every volume and I think it started going to the shitter after Goku defeated Piccolo Jr.
Casual American fans are the only people that would claim DBZ is good.
Buu saga wasn't a parody, it was Toriyama trying (and failing) to bring back the comedy nature of early Dragonball.
The best way to look at Dragon Ball as the whole thing. Not this DeeBeeZee bullshit.
I never said it was good, I said they were the same level.
Work on your reading comprehension.
Best way is to only look at the part without beamspam and auras.
That leaves only the filler and rare fights like Piccolo vs C-17
I agree that the series jumped the shark quite a bit with the Buu saga (Goku either should have stayed dead, or only appeared briefly to push Gohan, Goten, and Trunks further along as heroes), but it was still far better in the manga than it was in the anime. My point is that much of the criticism the series gets is entirely from the anime.
If you at least handle the anime like the manga, you'll still get a much better overall experience, despite certain lesser parts of said manga. Overall I still consider part 2 of Dragonball's manga good. Is it as good as stuff like Gintama, HxH, or JJBA? I wouldn't necessarily go that far, but it's still a solid series, which is very much a classic.
And I maintain that having an anime that's done much better and sticks closer to the manga will greatly improve the experience.
Dragon Ball is a shonen masterpiece. TTGL is a bland piece of shit made for fat otaku to repeat their oneliners and go jogging 3 or 4 days because they're hyped. Let's see if anyone remembers TTGL in 10 years.
Back to >>>/MAL/
>better than anything
Anon never said they visit there, just that anime is talked in those places. It's a fact.
Please stop spouting memes.
And the 17 first volumes.
Now make a joke to your friend about SnK > both
Dragonball Z is bland as hell, mostly due to how stretched out series like that tend to be.
Gurren Lagaan is over the top action packed into 27 episodes that accomplishes much more than DBZ did with it's entire run.
He didnt fail. Being ridicioulus on large scale worked like Dr. Slump. It was pretty funny. Fat Boo, Mr. Satan, the whole fusion deal, Great Saiyaman, more humorous character antics...etc.
How was it any less funny than his Dr. Slump and Dragon Ball stuff.
It was the perfect way to end Dragon Ball, it encapsulated everything that it was about. It was pure Toriyama, his editor even gave him the most freedom then.
>not utter shit
DB and DBZ's Spanish-dubbed OPs were pretty good. Not as good as some of One Piece's, but pretty good.
How's being an overweight loser? KAMINA WAS SO COOL RIGHT?
>knowing anything about taste
>but it was still far better in the manga than it was in the anime
That's a given. But we're talking about a comparison between shows.
Anyway an anime following the manga more strictly wouldn't sell enough to justify its existence
Oh no no no anon, I am pretty confident that I watched more anime than you will watch in your entire life
>entry level fags
>talking about anything
It's like special olympics.
It didnt accomplish as much as 42 volumes of Dragon Ball.
aren´t you a special snowflake?
I don't think it's really fair to compare TTGL and DBZ. The atmosphere and the mood is just completely different, they're completely different shows.
Whoa, you should be proud. Go rewatch Gurren Lagan and dream about how cool your life could have been.
>missing the point
This whole thread
>i watched like A LOT OF ANIMES
>like 20 titles
Saiyaman's role in the manga was really small, he mostly exists in anime fillers. And how on earth could anyone find Fat Buu funny? He was an annoying fat shit.
Only funny thing in Buu arc was Piccolo being tsukkomi babysitter to Goten and Trunks (and Gotenks).
Whatever. Just drop that Toriko shit, it does better than that on Jap TV
>le epic youtube comment may may
Why would a DBZ that's more in line with the manga not "sell enough to justify its existence"?
I'd imagine that, being such a well known series, it would sell fine regardless. If anything, hearing that it's getting remade from scratch would generate all kinds of hype, and from people who loved the manga but didn't care for the anime for the reason's I listed previously, they'll also be joyed.
It'll be just like HxH 2011 and FMA: Brotherhood
>My entry tier anime is better than your entry tier anime!
The battle between retards begins.
oh yeah go and make assumptions on the internet, its pretty trendy
Fat Boo turned everyone into candy. That was pretty awesome. Also Mr. Satan shinanigans with him were cool too.
This thread is fucking terrible. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.
Except in DBZ's case would be the third time they try it. It's also old as fuck, people have gotten bored of its bullshit and retarded plot and writing after Frieza, and Rebuild or not the source material isn't that good, even assuming that they would make the new anime good at 100% of their ability -still limited to how good the source is, that is.
The only good idea I can think of, concerning DBZ, would be the Radish-Vegeta-Frieza saga redone and rewritten less battle shonen, properly animated etc etc.
>The battle between retards begins.
I think we have a winner
This is /a/, early daily thread, nothing new here.
Your opinion of "people have gotten bored of it" is directly contradicted by the success of BoG. DBZ Kai was a half assed attempt, it wasn't a proper redo like HxH 2011 or FMA: Brotherhood.
I'm confident that there would be plenty of hype for a proper redo of the DBZ anime.
No the fact that it was martial arts and then beam/aura/golden hair stuff and at the end super ridicioulus pink blob galaxy destroying is what makes it awesome.
Dude nobody watched dragon ball for the writing. Its all about that Toriyama style, like Battle of Gods proved. People in Japan still appreciate his style and humor.
If you dont like it you know NOTHING ABOUT DRAGON BALL
