Was one of the best at the start of the war and gave the British a run for their money at the start.

Forced into port by the British by '42, a non-factor for the rest of the war.

>Air Force

Actually not that bad, especially once they put things like pic-related into the field. Too small of a force though, far too small.

Their Navy got crippled early on during the Battle of Taranto and unlike the USA they didn't have nowhere the industrial capacity to recuperate from these losses.
Their Air Force was quite effective, but it suffered a lot from outdated planes and Italy not being able to produce their newer, far more competitive designs in relevant numbers.
>>101686375
Taeko's VA, Maya Yoshioka
>>
>>101686240
WW2 era aircraft 20mm+ cannons were not that great for dogfights.

Americans never had to deal with big 4 engined bombers.

>>
>>101686240
Eight .50s do actually put more weight of hot lead per second than two not-so-fast-firing 20mms (we're talking about 300 rpm only). As >>101686872 said, the cannons thing is more a matter of knock-out punch against large planes.
>>
>>101686830
>Navy
Also, asides from battles, their Navy managed to sucessfully ferry an astounding percentage of what it was tasked to do, as compared with other WWII navies. And that was going against Allied air and sea superiority.

So, pasta and surrendering jokes besides, Italians were able to do quite amazing things when they actually got their mind upon doing them. Amusingly similar to what Miho says in Episode 7, if you notice.
>>
So this is the OVA not the move right
>>
>>101686830
>they didn't have nowhere the industrial capacity to recuperate from these losses

It didn't help that their industrial base was as dysfunctional as that of interwar France.

>Some Ethiopians were able to approach the tanks from the rear and were then able to disable the tracks and machine guns. Their tanks rendered useless, the two-man crews were killed.
>The Ethiopians immobilized several of the Italian tanks by rolling boulders onto the road in front of them and behind them.

Sigh...
Please, kindly read th every post you are quoting, where I actually inb4-ed that someone (you) was gonna mention the CV-33.

Those tanquettes are the "tanks" that were surrounded and taken out in close combat in the battle you quote. And they were VERY similar (including the "no rearfire" thing) to their British equivalents, the Mark VII (of which Glorianna has at least one, I must mention).

It was the Regio Esercito's tactics that sucked royally (pun intended) in letting their tanks being surrounded. Their tanks were just a little behind British ones. In fact, the CV-33 was a better tanquette than the Mark VII...

First of all, Ethiopia wasn't a just a dirt poor bunch of colonized tribes like any other African country back then, it was an actual sovereign state. Also, the rough terrain was a major advantage for the Ethiopians and they had massive support among the populace. But eventually, clever tricks and guerilla tactics weren't enough to force the well-equipped and trained Italians out of the country and Ethiopia still lost the war with a horrible amount of casualties.
>>
>>101688050

Most of it was. A few places of the line were hold by the Fascist Youths, green biys in their first battle. Long history short, the British sent battle-hardened veterans against them thinking they would just surrender as Italian infantry used to do, they actually made their attack obvious with that intention (against the advice of other British units that had taken part in the battle and knew those particular Italians weren't exactly intent on surrendering), the pasta boys ended that day as battle-hardened veterans themselves.

>Is what this comic explaining true?
It is. Just imagine a stationary tank for a second:
Let's say, there's 20 track segments that are touching the ground right now. If the tank starts moving now, one segment touching the ground moves up in the back, while one new segment touches the ground in the front - it's always 20 segments at any given time. And while these 20 segments move relatively to the tank, they don't move relatively to the ground - for the observer, they're non-moving. They always touch the same piece of soil.

Now for the segments which aren't touching the ground: If the tank moves one meter forward, then each track segment that isn't fixed on the ground also moves one meter because the track moves around the wheels - and another meter because the tank itself moves relatively to the ground!
It's difficult to explain, but basically you have to remember that the movement of the track isn't measured relatively to the tank but to the ground beneath it.
>>
>>101690380

Shut up and get on the bed.
>>
>>101690380

Ah, so the issue is relative speeds and the observed speed of the track links is dependent on the point of view of the observer.

Once you think of it that way it's not so bad.

>>101700999
This. In fact, I can only name a few gun-armed (over 20mm) weeled cars that weren't open-toped. The Puma (inb4 "it wasn't really named Puma") for the Germans, the BA-6 & BA-10 for he Russians, the Humber IV, Daimler & AEC for the British, the Staghound for the Americans (inb4 "they didn't use it but gave them all to the Brits"), the Fiat 611B for the Italians, the Panhard 178 / AMD 35 for the French (marginally, 25mm gun), the wz29 Ursus & wz 34-II for he Polish, and the M36, M38 & M39 for the Dutch. It's difficult to make games interesting when you have a grand total of 14 vehicles to choose from, and one of them (the AEC MKII, with a 6-pounder and more armor than some tanks) outclasses the rerst of them all so much that it isn't even funny.

>patton
>not the entire reason britain and germany aren't new russia
Patton is also the only reason we managed to kill german armor, because he adapted pershing's cavalry tactics to armored warfare, seeing as the sherman was a soft enough target, and also he had the foresight to know that our supply system was superior in every way to the german's and russian's, meaning that we could win faster and with less casualties if we keep the offensive and spread the german's resources thin, not letting them dig in to the bank of the rhine, capturing german cole mines and railroad stations to use along the way to propel the offensive.
His troops even passed themselves off as first army personnel and secured thousands of gallons of gasoline from a drop that wasn't intended for them just to continue the assault that much further.
The casualty reports were incredible.

If it wasn't patton, it would have been montgomery, and at the very least monty needed several moths to prepare for an advance, which would've inferred many more casualties by givibg the germans crucial time to set up defensive positions and perhaps even advance back into saarburg.
This also would mean for britain to hand germany over to the russians much sooner.

The Italians, Chinese and French all suffered from this, in that they did have well-trained units (The Alpini, Chiang's own wehrmacht-trained army, Somua S35), but they were too few and far between compared to everyone else that it hardly mattered. In subsaharan and East Africa and the Italians performed pretty well for how badly outgunned and outmanned they were.

the point is that the low rate of fire makes it much harder to hit a fighter when you only have very small windows of opportunity
>>
>>101713001
Depends on which 20mm, they're a lot of different rounds in that calibre. Ooerlikon, Hispano, etc.

The shorter ones had low velocities which didn't help their lower rate of fire.
