What does /a/ store their cartoons on?
I only archive a few good series
Everything else is deleted after I watch it
I'm a legalfag so I stream everything I can watch legally and buy shows on DVD or BD when I like them.
for the rare shows that aren't licensed for streaming or disc in my country I just keep them on my harddrive in a folder called "anime."
I completed my back log three months ago. I have nothing stored right now. Everything i currently watch I delete it after wards. I keep those in a folder next to my Ken burns folder which is two avenues away from my school work folder
In my memory
>tfw no perfect recall
I tend not to store much since there's not that many series that I want to rewatch
LoGH is the only one I really want to keep
An external 1.5TB USB 2.0 hard drive that's probably about to die
Cloud and hard drives. Like really... Don't you fags know the glorious use of Megashares?
Its own TBdrive
Cloud isn't really an options for us aussies
2 1TB drives on my desktop. I just stream through NFS from it for everything else.
Why would you store your data on someone's server?
You finished your backlog?
That's quite an accomplishment.
While you're whining that your favorite shows aren't getting the attention they deserve my series will get noticed because they can tell people are watching it thanks to people using legal avenues.
Where else would I keep it?
I only keep series I like, but it's been piling up... Have maybe 10-20 TB archived.
2003-2004 I archived on CDs, most actually don't work anymore, which sucks...
2005-2009 I archived on DVDs, most still work, but some are already down for the count.
2010-current day, I use external Hard Drives, actually already have a 1 TB HD that went down, so I will probably need a better method.
I also like purchasing DVDs and Blu-Rays (though I have to import from the states since prices in Japan are ridiculous), so I have quite a large collection of those.
1 TB laptop, I keep most of what I download, rarely ever deleting.
I've streamed more shows in bed with my galaxy s2 than I have downloaded on my laptop
during the summers I'd watch like, 2-3 hours of anime before bed from 1am to 4am
Well sucks to be you then.
>Not sharing my glorious treasure of Chinese cartoon to improve other's shit taste
I may hate the world but I still want it to improve
What's with the censor bars? No one cares what your name is.
Are you assuming anyone gives a shit about your name?
>>Not sharing my glorious treasure of Chinese cartoon to improve other's shit taste
Wait, not only are you storing your personal data on other people's servers, but you're giving everyone access to it?
Airing shows on C:\
Backlog and archive on D:\
along with my Rustle and Noise collection. I'm expecting visitors to knock down my door any time soon
Floppy Discs are superior
sup dude from /pol/
>Storing personal data on the root directory
You're asking for it mate.
On hard drives. I've been considering setting up a NAS, but I have to do some research first and figure out what I need to buy.
Toward what end?
how does /a/ organize their taiwanese cartoons?
When they get shot down, they wont be lost.
I pray for all the people that do not download and back up their porn.
external HDDs, of course. MIRRORED external HDDs.
always two copies there are. ALWAYS
chinese is too mainstream
What about your off-site backup?
>All these plebs streaming and deleting
SSD for windows, and any programs I want up fast
RAID 5 on my hdds
I plan on adding more when I get the money
>plebs using windows
Sup. How's your day?
>You're asking for it mate
It's been 4-5 months. I'm fine I'll assume
lovely. truck overheated.
This is just sad.
Now that's just bad luck. But hey, at least now you have a oversized paperweight and a day off to fix it. Optimism.
Hell of a collection, m8.
it's a radiator hose on the back of the turbo. :|
>Dat jelly samefag
That's a nice collection props on getting all the icons, personally I'm not fond of it
How much is that all up?
Not even same, but the autism on that one is on a standard nep thread level and that's not even a practical way to index series.
1TB internal. Samsung
1TB 2.5" external.Westerdigital.
2TB 2.5" external new in box. Westerdigital.
This is why >>101670339
OP was lucky to recover that
last HDD failure I had lost me 2TB worth of shows
Around 3.66TB altogether. They're in separate drives because I don't really organize my stuff very well.
There's a program that puts all the icons for me, and I don't really try to keep it organized otherwise. Is it really so autismal looking?
2TB WD Green
Just create a backup of shows you really like, external hard drives are surprisingly cheap and can last a long time if not in use.
Yeah you'd be best to set up a nas, if not do what I did
I bought 4x 3tb barracuda's and a z87 mobo for the sata 6 ports, then set it up in a logical raid 1
Or just grab a couple hdd's and a raid card.
I went with the z87 because I hate having cords all over the place in my rig
But what if he gets hacked by anonymous???
I'm currently only sporting a 350GB Laptop so I tend to delete each series after watching them.
I screenshot every frame of a series, then I use a 3D-printer to print all screenshots in the right order so I get a 3D real life model of every anime episode.
a bunch of drives in an external USB enclosure
Floppies. They're more stable than CDs, better long-term storage solution than HDDs, and don't suffer from the burnout of flash drives.
And I can label each floppy with the individual episode in it, put it into nice-looking boxes, and get a library-like effect with my anime collection.
>external USB enclosure
>Bleach Movie 3
I've got one more HD waiting to be filled up, pretty soon I should probably think about getting some just to serve as backups for the backups.
Do people seriously use floppies or are they talking out their asses?
get on my level
I work in a printing factory so I print off every frame of my anime, and put it in a large binder
>I'm a legalfag
No, you're just a faggot.
not much room left for 2014 , better get another harddrive
How do you deal with having so little space?
4.5TB of my 9TB hard disk space is taken up by anime
probably 5TB if you count hentai and then my downloads folder I rarely sort
I encrypt them, lock them into password-protected rars, compress the folders they're stored in, and drop them into 8-16gb flash drives, depending on the size of the season. It's more efficient and I get a keyring of flash drives I can bring anywhere.
i only have like ~100 series saved. youd be surprised how much space you have when you get tierd of computer games and sell your steamaccount
>Not using superior Crunchy streams
Gee, spending $1000s of dollars on HDDs sure is a cheap way to watch muh Japanese animated gifs.
You don't need to spend squat to download. Only if you want to store anime.
Someone is bitter that his mom refused to buy him a HDD.
On a RAID6 NAS box.
You still need to buy a computer. I can get a smartphone for $250 with a data plan, and stream wherever and whenever I want.
It's not like I couldn't get a computer for 250 bucks. It's just that it would be shit, just like a $250 smartphone.
Because the $250 smartphone will give you 20 TB, just like $1000 of HDDs will do.
Oh but wait! Streaming means not having to worry about encoding! Sorry that's a bit of trolling I couldn't help.
I don't see any counter arguments to the claim that you don't have enough spare downloads limit to download everything you want. If I'm desperate I can stream over uni internet, but torrents are blocked and I really don't want to risk downloading copyright stuff through university.
Plus that guide doesn't even mentions your options if you want to legally watch your favourite shows.
>Streaming means not having to worry about encoding!
Yeah, you only have to tolerate how shitty the encoding is.
>Anime torrents triggering flags
Not likely to happen, especially if they're not already licensed in the US.
the autism that reeks from that picture is killing me
Even on a university connection, you'd be safe downloading over XDCC. With decent speeds, you could even watch as it downloads and delete when you're done.
If you can smell pictures, you might need serious help.
>Common sense is autism
you can smell pictures? I think you may have synesthesia, go to a doctor m8
Enjoy being an ignorant peasant.
But hey, you can just call people that know more than you autists. Perfect comeback isn't it?
>Streaming means not having to worry about encoding!
Nope, you get the worst encode instead.
Besides, everyone knows his groups by now.
I wonder, just what happens to a synesthetic when they're confronted with rainbow ice cream?
I did wonder about XDCC. They might notice the spike in my usage, but then I see people playing games through the internet even though you're not supposed to.
Could be worth a shot... Maybe someone else at my Uni has done it.
>University banning online games
>They might notice the spike in my usage
they'd notice a spike in your usage regardless of what method you use
I store it on harddrives.
>They might notice the spike in my usage
t-they notice that?
No wonder I get super fast speeds that get throttled down really quick throughout the year, during the summer I torrented all of logh at uni pretty quick
You're an idiot if you think they're actively monitoring your usage like that.
They just sniff your traffic for protocols they won't like.
>Only 162 GB of music
Calm down guys
It's all good as long as you find a way to feel superior, isn't it?
I called it autistic because the creator of that picture took the time to make something that only the people who don't stream in the first place would agree with and everyone else is just going to ignore it or think of you as an elitist faggot.
It's utterly useless.
>It's utterly useless.
So are your posts and yet they keep coming.
>everyone else is just going to ignore it or think of you as an elitist faggot.
You mean every dumbass.
Maybe one or two people of the bunch will give other alternatives a try and won't comeback to streaming.
your post is more autistic, I bet you took more time to make it and read it than the guy who made it
The majority of stream users stream simply because they do not know any better, not because they believe it is superior in any way (except maybe convenience)
Mirrored 1 tb volume.
>Have 2TB of anime
>Feel like a dirty casual after seeing some of the posts on here
Their terms of service is about all I can claim to know.
I know man, but I can't actually know what they look out for. Besides torrents which, like I said, were actively blocked.
I should point out I'm not in the US and internet here isn't the best thing ever.
>I should point out I'm not in the US and internet here isn't the best thing ever.
Are you implying US has good Internet?
tunnel your traffic and then you can do whatever the fuck you like
>I cant use torrents
>I fear legality
Plenty of other ways to download. Not to mention, you will NEVER be flagged for downloading anime. No Jap is going to put the effort in legal costs to attack a consumer outside of Japan, and cant even do anything if they wanted to spend the money if the consumer didn't use torrents.
One of those images convinced me to give torrenting a shot and now I'll never look back. The difference between some shitty stream and a good 720p encode is truly huge.
US and UK both have terrible internet. Canada's only a step above but it's still awful.
Wow, why would you live there?
My uni gives me 1 gigabit upload/download with no caps and no limitations (except.. one particularly random port is blocked). But they will get me in shit if some lawyer sends the school a letter to cease and desist my pirating activities.
Canada IS NOT a step up. You need to rethink that statement. We have considerably more landmass and a lot less people along with a duopoly of providers. People who live in the country anywhere get shit internet, except some asian nations.
my friend got a C&D for downloading something that was subbed by gg I can't remember what. but that was in australia and they're backwards faggots over there.
>tfw paying $70 a month for only 120gb bandwidth
25 euros for unlimited.
We can get those in Aus. I've downloaded heaps of anime and other shit over the years, and never had anything like that happen.
>my brother from another mother
That's about how my old external looked, before it died out for unknown reasons. Never again. Got a 3TB internal with another on the way. I archive all my shit and have re-watched a lot of it with friends.
But because of my prior hd failure, I've gotten a bit of a backlog on myself, not to worried, will give me plenty to watch after we move this spring.
An internal hard drive.
I have two 3TB drives, and I'm only using one. So I'm not sure if I should do a RAID thing or just keep it for more anime/other things.
But the best directory for storing anime is /.
Forgot my old screencap.'
Anything that had additional seasons/arcs/spin-offs were put into their respected franchise folder.
Nami get the fuck out of here
UK internet is bad?
We have FTTC is like 90% of urban areas and rural areas are starting to buy their own fibre coverage.
BT have been pretty good about laying out the infrastructure needed for it.
Their customer service is still india based or some shit but hey, I can work most problems out over email.
I pay like £12 a month for 100Mbit/20 with unlimited usage.
Also, our best "unlimited internet" provider is complete shit to the point where the internet goes out of periods of time
To people who use Windows.
How can you use Windows?
I seriously can't go back to it, everything about Windows feels so fucking confusing and unusable. Plusyou have to download 2 extra codec packs just to watch anime with 10 colors while mplayer or mpv does all that by default in linux.
If you live in Japan and watch anime on TV, you're technically streaming anime.
>I'm a liberal college student so I can't torrent anime!
Buy a Mac Mini.
Plug it into your room at home.
Attach a 3TB external hard drive to it.
Enable remote torrenting and SSH.
Now you can set up all your shitty loli shows to download automatically, and when you want to watch them, transfer them over secure shell.
It's not that hard, I did the same thing to leech off my dad's computer while I watched anime on my toaster.
>How can you use Windows?
Back to 1999 you go.
>Buy a Mac Mini.
why not just use something like a raspberry pi
I have a futuristic desktop withcute anime girls on it.
Because I'm a paid Apple shill, and also I'm not sure how well a Rasp Pi works being always on like that.
>Having a separate partition for every single type of media
Please, teach me your retarded ways.
i don't see how it would have any problems being "always on". it's just a computer.
they draw less power, and costs like $35 or something
a 4TB Seagate HDD (run two of them with the other one used for programs an a SSD for the OS)
delete upon completion to keep track of what episode I'm on and keeping everything organized
I also have some series on my laptop to watch on the go.
I can't adopt just everyone. I only have about 15.5 MB/s of download bandwidth.
I'll be a NEET that gets my own food, and I'll sleep when you're awake, and be awake when you're asleep so download speeds are unaffecte
I'll gladly spend 5 minutes configuring my video player to get quality far above mpv.
But then you won't be able to cuddle and suck each other's dicks
beats the internet speed at my dorm. It's currently stuck at 6MB/s.
As long as we're doing this, here's what I currently have downloaded. It's pretty well-organized, and I also try to seed back what I download to BTN and animebytes/bakabt.
Left = watched
I only started watching anime this year, so I'm trying to catch up. I'm a NEET. inb4blog
Since this seems to be the relevant thread, my laptop suddenly can't play certain anime anymore like valvrave or logh - when I open in MPC it says [loading DXVA] and I can only seem to open my anime in _____VLC_____
If that doesn't work, right click on video > filter > lav video decoder, and set hardware acceleration to none.
God what a fucking mess
I'll update it, thanks
I can't even tell whether you're joking or whether you're an idiot.
Also use it for animu and music.
3TB drive in server/Media Centre. Only have 192gb left so I need to buy a new drive within the next few months.
It's just my backlog and shows I really enjoyed, too
This won't get a second rewatch so the trash bin.
>having all kinds of media on all disks
Like a normal person yes
>not using both so that you can do pretty much anything you want
Do they make anime scrapers for the XBMC that can read subgroups/CRC codes in filenames, instead of the format they try to force you to use?
You guys don't know how good you have it.
Shit hurts my neck.
At least you know how it feels to rest your head on someones shoulder.
On the greens.
On a 4TB and 3TB HDD, along with 1 for 1 mirrors on my other 4TB and 3TB HDD's.
Everything is checksummed in sha512, crc32 and MD5.
I get both dubbed and subbed versions, some series have have multiple rips due to people fighting over which is better subs.
Currently re-organizing, theres another overflowing folder with stuff that needs to be organized.
Nigger did you just take a picture of your screen?
By the way downloading at 781KB/s is not bad at all, it's 6Mb/s, more than enough.
15.5Mb/s, not 15.5MB/s
/r/ a resource that compares sub groups works
>15.5Mb/s, not 15.5MB/s
Sorry, I didn't know you were an expert on my connection speed.
That's not how you measure connection speed, b-baka.
VDPAU + mpv > mpc-hc + madVR
MPC-HC and the third-party plugins are horribly designed.
One of the dumber stigmas Linux gets. Windows is incredibly crusty and ancient internally, and Linux has advanced to quite a farther extent, the development for core parts goes so much faster.
Boot up a fedora livecd with the default Gnome3 environment, regardless of whether or not you like gnome3, go ahead and tell me that makes you think you're "in the 90s".
Sorry. Typically when people refer to their bandwidth they do it in Mb, not MB, so I just assumed.
Stuff like wget and torrent clients often use MB because it's easier to understand in terms of disk-space.
Downloading a file with wget is pretty accurate for testing download speed actually.
>VDPAU + mpv > mpc-hc + madVR
Haha, nope. VDPAU is shit compared to madVR.
Why would you store something you can download any time you want?
Unless its something really old in very high quality
Haha, nope. madVR is shit compared to VDPAU.
>Downloading a file with wget is pretty accurate for testing download speed actually.
Don't measure connection speed in B/s.
VDPAU doesn't even have smooth motion equivalent, so anime looks terrible on 60 Hz screens.
And call me when you have scaling on level of nnedi3.
Animebytes could be dead tomorrow.
Bakabt could be dead tomorrow.
>implying nyaa does old releases
i archive every single show i watch. i put it on a dvd-r where it will sit in an etui for many years
i do the same with vidya, i just don't trust internet enough to be sure the thing will always be there, i've just recently hunted down a game with zero traces of it on internet and i'm trying to repopulate it in on abandonware sites
Enjoy your corruption.
i don't have money for bd writer right now, once i'll buy it i'll move my backups there and dvds will remain as secondary backups
besides, it's better to have single disk getting corrupted than entire drive
I'm very curious anon. Whats in that aliens partition. are you a /x/ cross-boarder.Please enlighten me?
>all these advantages to streaming aren't really advantages
>all these disadvantages to torrenting and archiving shows aren't really disadvantages
This image is shit, why does it keep getting posted
How long do WD Black internal hard drive last?
I've had mine for close to a year and never turn my computer off, so it's probably constantly hot.
Everything on my External HDD, backlog is in …/Anime and airing anime are in …/Anime/airing
I have a 2TB Seagate which I have around 1.20TB left to go since i've got films on there as well as Anime along with a Seagate 500GB which is pretty much full and I have nearly filled my 500GB laptop which has around 60GB left.
I'm going to be without internet for about a year. So I'm storing things that'll keep me busy until then and purposely keeping my power level as low as possible so I can enjoy everything.
I have prepared for this day.
>I'm going to be without internet for about a year.
You poor bastard.
Great taste Mein Neigger!
>try to open folder for current season
>entire folder just vanished
I still have no clue what happened.
Check the recycle bin?
It's not there. It just says the path could not be found after I clicked on the folder before it disappeared.
Just Search for it.
That's great that you all have 15MB internet and 20TB of storage, but do you actually use any of it for sharing?
There is no difference between have 100kbps internet at 1gbps if you only ever use 100kbps. You should be uploading massively to make the most of your internet, same with heaps of seeding to make your storage worthwhile (cause honestly, you aren't going to rewatch 'shit show #45'
>I'm going to be without internet for about a year.
3TB external HDD.
that series you name your drives after is shit. kill urself
>The Darkness 2
4.4 GB DVDs.
>mfw all these people that use external hard drives.
It's a fair sacrifice, because after this I'll probably have a stable income and will be able to live by myself without having my parents telling me what to do.
I'll be living the dream with no nagging from anyone whatsoever. I might even be able to buy one of them onaholes that I've heard so much about.
Sage for blog
Good luck anon.
I've made my sacrifice 6 years of medic school, now an ER doctor that spend his graveyard shift on /a/.
Was it worth it?
>not knowing about double layered DVD
>4.4 GB DVD
>Not 9 GB DVD
What happened to my tech savvy /a/ ?
I was trying to say that no one stores raw data from DVDs like that.
>not storing all your animes in your 2.5 petabyte brain
Look at all these plebs wasting money on external storage.
>Implying we're all memory efficient
>not being memory efficient
Teach me your methods sensei
I want to learn
Well the pay is good, I've got my own place, in my day off I go through a fapping streak and can clear a series easily, learned to cook myself and I can see every now and then a 3DP boobs.
The cons after a while I started to miss the nagging from my parents, no personal social life, have to deal with retarded people, risk of transmitted diseases, huge responsibility.
You have to be mentally prepared for this before you go, but bottom line,Yes
Kegel excercises, Lucid dreaming and 'shrooms.
Lots and lots of 'shrooms.
I watch 1080 and burn the 720 to DVD where every 12 episodes take about ~4 GB, seed for a year then delete them.
Is this true? a few weeks ago there were those surgeons talking here.
I thought most of /a/ are NEET.
How do I seed anime that I've got stored in my brain?
I've tried cumming down your imoutos throat, but it didn't work.
This hobby needs money, anon.
another anon that studied medicine here
Hopefully this seagate doesn't fail on me.
Any benefit to saving animu to an ssd? I wouldn't think that there would be.
>Saving onto an SSD
Not really except for faster transfer speeds.
But USB 3.0 with a 3.0 compatible PC is much faster imo
Seagate 2terabytes used up about 1 1/2 so far.
>Tonari no Kaibutsu-Kun
>My Little Monster
Did they seriously localize the name like that or is this another crime against nature by Commie
Harddrives, what else?
I've deleted a lot of what I've seen. I'd estimate I have about 1.5 TB worth of anime saved, 500 GB of that being backlog. Over the next few months I should be able to build a decent collection now that I have an extra 3TB drive. I generally download 1 series a day.
Perhaps it's selection bias, but nearly every single /a/non I've ever spoke to was going to college for a not-pointless degree. I myself am going through grad school.
Word of advice: consider EP6 of Umineko to be "the end" and do not proceed any further. You'll look back upon the series much more favourably that way.
Seagate has the highest falure rate: http://blog.backblaze.com/2014/01/21/what-hard-drive-should-i-buy/
They are still the fastest, though.
>Any benefit to saving animu to an ssd
SSDs have a much shorter lifespan than HDDs, so they are worthless for anything involving data storage.
And I'm still gonna buy another 4TB HDD just because I can
Anime tech thread?
I recently forked a curses mal interface called wmal, I'm trying to add transmissionrpc so I can automate my episode downloading. It's not going too well so far. Python is damn difficult.
Does /a/ use automation tools for their anime?
>Any benefit to saving animu to an ssd?
SSDs don't suffer from the random failures as much as traditional HDDs.
Used 1.10 TB as far as my backlog goes
>Does /a/ use automation tools for their anime?
Just the RSS downloader in Utorrent.
How did you manage to spell all those names wrong besides Gespenst
Perhaps try your own imouto.
So have you seen any loliin your career?
I know I spelled them wrong, but for whatever reason I get errors when I try to fix them so I just left them as it was.
Weird. I figured it was a joke at first because of "Cybaster" but then I noticed "Huckbein"
So how much music do you have
this might be my future
how is it a doctor remains on /a/?
I have about 600Gb
I don't store becaue i am retarded
>Hopefully this Seagate doesn't fail on me
HAHA! You should buy a different drive m8, seagate is shit. I normally go with WD but that's me.
do you even listen to music?
Yes, it was really terrible though.
/a/ and hot coffee to get through graveyard shift.
don't you have, you know, emergencies to attend to?
Sometimes, Its quite night so far.
The only one we got was a middle age man with chest pain, it turns out to be reflux esophagitis
I keep all my chinese cartoons on a 2TB drive now, it's basically all I use it for.
I keep games and system files on a 240GB SSD, finally built a raging orgasm of a dream machine for ~1.4k USD off newegg about a month ago because my old shitbox would overheat and crash unless I left a fan blowing straight into the open tower. I gave up when it started giving blue screens in safe mode, but at least I salvaged my data before my old 700GB drive gave.
I didn't have the space to spare before, the joy of being able to prepare a collection is a wonderful thing.
>it was really terrible though.
>323 items for 528gb
Holy shit, do you download the most bloated stuff or what?
It probably isn't music.
>not downloading FLAC to prevent rotational velocidensity from wrecking your music over time
>have nearly 600G of music
> only listen to the same 30 songs
I can download random discographies too, anon!
Well he does only have 323 songs to listen to.
Only 2D lolis are good, 99% of 3D ones are screaming, whiny creatures you wouldn't want to go anywhere near.
music i actually listen too
I dont need fucking los campesinos! discography, I only like those two songs
>wrecking your music over time
they're replaceable computer files not heirlooms
A hard drive.
Well like any other /a/non here I do have a taste for loli /abuse/torture/guro but what I saw that night didn't do it for me.
a woman came to the ER with multiple wounds and fracture ribs carring her daughter 4 years old that had fracture arm and thigh a few ribs as well and in shock due to internal bleeding we removed her spleen and left kidney
Those are folders within a folder, undoubtedly.
What kind of shitty file manager is it that doesn't count inside subfolders?
That's one great fetish.
