Underrated thread! In this this thread we talk about all things under appreciated in the anime community, could be a series, character, spinoff, author, voice actor.
For me it's pic related, even though the plot got a whole lot cliche in the end it's still a very good story with good twist, and damnit it's sad.
Deadman Wonderland also got a good character design and chemistry, nice art and flowing action sequence. I don't know why it doesn't do very well.
Durararara, fucking that, the anime doesn't even got a 2nd season.
Im still pissed
The story was a huge mess, and it did a horrible job at the whole suspension of disbelief thing. The characters were unique, I guess, for the genre but still were cliche ridden and terribly one note. If anything I would say DW is overrated, along with Mirai Nikki.
Daisuke Igarashi is my favorite underrated author though so I'm sure my opinion will be dismissed.
Anyone here ever heard of Yuji Iwahara?
That dude have an awesome art style, dynamic panel flow without needing a dramatic panel like Kubo, good story.
Google King of Thorns and Darker Than Black:Shikoku no Hana and you'll know what im talking about
Dude, even the wiki said it doesn't sell well.
The first few arcs were great, the last few arcs however I agree with you, it did a bad job and way too cheesy, only chapter 55 redeems it.
Just so you know the sales and LN sales were great for DRR, so it's hardly underrated.. It got nothing but praise while it aired.
From a different pov, does anyone else think SnK is overrated?I love SnK, it's good and the story is far better than way more overrated stuff like Bleach, but the art is bad and the story it like that of an entry level seinen?
Isayama should collaborate with someone who can actually draw
Oh yeah, im talking about the anime though, it looks like the kind of series that would get a 2nd season but it didn't
Yeah... But in my opinion it deserved those low sales because it was a bad series with a lot of amateur writing.
The real injustice is how the author of Me and Devil Blues got his masterpiece cancelled and now makes Prison School which has 20x the sales.
Didn't the DW anime only got a 2nd season because the studio is new and isn't brave enough to run a 2nd season?Correct me if im wrong.
It's kinda a sleeper hit. That revelation in chapter 55 makes the series a 9.5/10 for me.
That doesn't really have anything to do with being underrated though, because it was a studio decision? Like how Haruhi hasn't got a new season even though it's considered the best anime of the 2000s by otaku.
I respect your opinion
The problem with DW is how it reaches its target audiences, DW is to heavy for middle scholers(lel), who reads a lot of stories like OP, Bleach, Naruto but is too messy for adult readers.
Hit manga like Bleach and Toriko is written badly in my opinion but it's a major hit because it got through the right audiences.
How about overrated ones?
That piece of shit only got popular because it panders to sad lonely otaku while a lot of good series is overlooked.
K-on waifu is best waifu tho
Mio is muh favourite
In my personal, unpopular opinion, I say Basilisk, my favorite series.
He's not unpopular, I've heard him several times before but really, after seeing his drawings he should be at least well known here/
Katekyo Hitman Reborn is written horribly and got a good sales.
Agree with you on your second point, 20 times...well damn.
>it panders to sad lonely otaku
Except that it got really popular because a lot of casualfags actually like it too. It's pretty damn mainstream in Japan.
Gurren Lagann, pretty good.
KHR is only good from Mukuro arc to Xanxus arc, the rest is just terrible, the morphing animals, everybody becomes bishonen with a fashion accesories as a weapon..
Then I realize im not their target audience
specifically on /a/.
U wot m8
How about underrated series by popular author? Is there any?
Princess Tutu, while not really underrated I guess, is sorely under discussed on /a/.
Mirai Nikki is vastly overrated, it became so stupid so fast, I loved how the manga started though and the seventh couple are still one of my favorite manga couples. That man reached through a wall of flames to protect his woman and lifted a slab of concrete with rebar pierced through him so she wouldn't die alone. That is love, but to go with this thread I would say one of the most underrated characters in any manga I've read would have to be akise aru. He was coolest fucker in the whole series and almost no one talks about him
Then the most underrated manga I've ever read would have to be 7 seeds. I've heard it's popular in japan, but it has no fanbase in the US and I never see any threads for it on here. Shame too, it has some of the most well developed characters I've ever seen and the adventure and suspense of it all has kept me reading through the years.
That's my first manga
7 Seeds is good, I've only read the first few chapter tho.
Mirai Nikki is never that great to me, but I kinda like it, agree with your point, it started out strong.
My hope and dream is that someday this little manwha becomes an animu
Darker Than Black, it's quite popular actually, but it seems a bit..hurried.
Probably because the 2nd season is bad, the gaiden is not long enough.
I want my 3rd season Bones, pls.
The problem with DTB is they showed us a myriad of interesting characters, but never bothered to explore them through.
Im sure the show will got a whole lot more popular if it got more spinoff or a longer series with a bit more detailed story of important characters.
DTB is not that underrated though.
Instead we got to know Suou, worst girl.
In DTB everybody interesting dies before we got to know and love them, that's really shitty of them.
At least let us love the chara so it hurts more when they're killed off, baka BONES.
Deadman Wonderland had the edgiest opening I've ever seen.
..Because the story is supposed to be edgy?Hell they control blood and are named Deadmen
...W-what series is that anon?
