Born of the Boobs: Frid/a/y Night Edition.
>mfw watching some fat turbonerd get ranched by a little girl at the BNG pre release.
Tonight's the night BNG becomes standard-legal, what changes did you guys make to your piles of cardboard dough?
None because I only draft.
I haven't because i still don't want to take the plunge of 180$ just for lands to play standard.
The lands for Standard are pretty cheap right now at <$12 each m8, plus the shocks will age well. A competitive aggro deck will costs less than $100 right now, and that's including the lands.
Nope, Mutavault is 30 per and almost every deck plays it, and a set of shocks and scrys is 60 if you are lucky. Not to mention Nykthos for an additional 40. To get any playable deck its at least 150, and even then aggro decks get dumped on by devotion, which is what my FNM standard plays.
Standard is for queers
Right now is actually a good time to play aggro, though. Whenever a new set comes out, aggro does a lot better than usual since the combo/control players are still tinkering with their decks.
What tinkering is there to do? Cut some doom blades throw in bile blight and the new Infest and bam aggro completely neutered. I was toying with various battalion, token decks, but it just gets fucked by those new cards too hard to even consider.
>shocklands, scrylands, mutavault and nykthos in the same deck
What abomination are you even thinking of building?
I didn't say you needed all 4, but you usually need a set of shocks which is 40, 2 sets of scrys for another 40, then a mutavault or 2 or a play set of nykthos depending on your deck.
I for one think that making Standard boring and stagnant as fuck is their way to push people to play Modern instead :^)
You just said exactly the same thing. A single devotion deck only needs nykthos and mutavaults if preferred. Esper and any other multicolored decks prefer not to play mutavault because it fucks up their color fixing. There is literally no excuse to say that the landbase of a certaIn deck includes all of those.
I said nykthos or mutavault, if you are playing Mono Black or Monoblue you usually want mutavaults. If your playing the RG devotion deck you want nyxthos, if you are playing esper it costs the same anyways because you have to buy another set of shocks to support three color.
Pre-ordered a box, will get it tomorrow. inb4foilbrizmaz
If they were aiming for boring and stagnant they sure hit the nail on the head. I'm sure it will be a little less gay once BNG settles into the meta, but fuck 'em, I'd rather play Modern as well, and BNG didn't offer Modern sweet fuck all.
Thus, according to you, the RG devotion landbase would cost 80 dollars, which is substantially less than your estimate of $180 per landbase. You could even complete your devotion deck with the leftovers.
Won't happen, switching from Standard to Modern is a massive cash wall. It's why no one plays it and Legacy is left to just sit there as well. Nothing will make Wizards push anything but their money making Standard.
R/W Devotions landbase is $100 at cheapest right now, and that's if your really scrape TCGPlayer for the cheapest prices. You're looking like $140 if you deal out the cash if you go for SCG on deal with an LGS that bases their prices on SCG.
You mean 100 dollars, 4 stomping grounds, 4 scys and 4 nykthos, and the thing about that deck is I have to buy a shit ton of mythics (Xenagos, Stormbreath, Polokranos, Garruk, Domri). Its not like you can sleeve up a cheaper version of delver, or that janky aristocrats decks. The current standard jews you on both lands and mythics because there are no other playable cards.
>no one plays it
The player base for Modern in the last 6 months alone has grown massively. That's why prices on even fringe deck rares has gone insane recently. It's a more open format with lots of possibilities. Hell it has even funner and more viable budget options than Standard at the moment. I think what you've meant to say, is broke kids don't play it...
Holy shit, the MTG tag on pixiv has some weird stuff.
>That Bitterblossom image
Broke kids can play this deck though. Just sub out the nonbasics for basics.
Anyone here use sleeves of they're waifus?
Like I said, plenty of fun Budget brews in Modern. that is some shit awful jank right there though.
No. I play plain old dragon shields, because there is no need to look like any more of an aspie to a group of people who are already clearly autistic.
I guess you're right, I'd much rather play FNM modern then be beholden to the standard Jew with boring decks and devaluing cards.
Although I usually don't condone this behavior, if you are already gonna be hanging around the autistic population of an LGS you might as well use animu card sleeves, its not like you'll be going out telling your non autistic friends you play MTG.
Agreed, most of the populace in my LGS use those anyway.
2013 NEVER FORGET
RIP in peace ;_;
Which god/goddess would you worship, /a/?
Keranos, the god of making my heads rock hard with epiphany.
>not worshipping superior brown girl karametra
Is storm playable in modern or is there too much disruption?
It is if you're Jon Finkel, he's still a huge proponent of it.
I'm going to the release night Draft tonight, it's my first draft in around a year.
What should I be looking for tonight, and what's strong to draft with in BotG/Theros
Huh, is there any deck besides RDW that doesn't need fetchlands to function? I was thinking of making a modern deck for a farther away FNM because it seems much cheaper and fun.
GW hatebears, Ninja Bear Delver.
Off the top of my head atleast
I thought only green devotion was a thing in Modern, the rest didn't really take off.
Not much has changed from Theros limited, tbh.
Why is BNG such a boring set? Everything costs so damn much, and the only really stand out cards are W and B. I'm really not looking forward to Ravnica phasing out, because it feels like Standard is going to halve in speed.
RDW Masterrace here
Storm has been out of favor since it took a big hit when they lost Seething Song, and the onset of Deathrite Shaman and Scavenging Ooze as main-deckable hate cards, but just recently Deathrite Shaman was added to the bans list which actually makes Past in Flames slightly more buff. Many people are re-examining storm's potential for the coming modern season.
>but just recently Deathrite Shaman was added to the bans list
This makes me smile any time someone mentions it. I hate that card so fucking much.
People try to jam Phyrexian Obliterator to make a black deck but so far it's gone nowhere.
The whole format is up in the air post bans now anyway, I'd wait until after the Pro Tour to choose a deck at this point.
Christ, I remember when Phyrexian Negator was an extremely good card. Obliterator is just bonkers.
Really, it's just a 5/5 unblockable for BBBB. There are much stronger things to do in modern on turn 4 (eg: twin combo's off on turn 4)
Twin is susceptible to a ton of disruption though. Pod is a more resilient combo deck.
Even with DRS gone, Storm is still pretty easy to shit on. It will probably pick up a little again though.
Affinity. But that's not fun to play unless you're just playing to win.
Anyone cockatrice here? Would be nice if we could playtest sometime. /a/ is better than /tg/ after all.
Mono Green Infect, Mono Black Discard, Soul Sisters, Ninja Bear Delver, Green Devotion, Affinity, Cheerios, RDW.
All kinds of Fetchless/Shockless decks you can play in Modern.
I hope you're drafting son
Would anyone here be interested in playing Magic over Skype?
Wait a minute, does this generate infinite tokens?
No, what are you smoking?
Anyone going to FNM or the midnight release? I'm running RB aggro, kinda dreading the number of Infest 2.0s and Bile Blights that will most certainly be showing up. Hoping for some good pulls from the release though.
>tfw no Modern FNM
I want to use faerie tokens like these.
Why not just play on Cockatrice or Lackey CCG?
My opponent cascades into bonfire for 9 and I give myself protection from black, what happens? It doesn't deal damage if he tapped swamps for his mana right?
No, the spell is red. Even though he used black mana to cast it, it's casting cost is still red.
Also I don't think you can cascade into bonfire for any amount other than 0 because it's an X spell.
Unless the damage source has a black mana symbol in its casting cost, then yes it will get round protection from black.
The colour(s) of the spell are only ever what it has in the top-right corner, regardless of what mana you actually used to play it.
Also not sure if bait...
I do. My username is Tobes
yes that one smogonfag
Ban Mega Mawile please.
I suppose we could get something like a steam group going so we can play together, but I suppose there's a huge lack of interest ;_;
I dunno, man. This is the first time in 15 years I've looked at a spoiler list and decided I didn't want anything to do with a new set. This is like the modern Homelands or some shit, except there isn't even any interesting flavor to it. The next set probably won't be much better.
Kamigawa was the modern Homelands, and it's more interesting than this fucking set.
I'm new to this game, and I'd like some advice on a cheap aggro deck. What are the recommended colors for those? I've seen people play green and white aggro while others go red and black. Is there any difference between the two besides cost?
>It's why no one plays it
Yeah, that's why Bitterblossom went from around $20 to $80 in the span of one night. Because no one plays Modern.
But the deck will be good for a long while, unlike standard which rotates. You'll spend more on standard in about 5 years than you would on modern.
Red and white are the simplest go-tos for cheap, mono-color aggro decks
Mono green, red or both.
My sister-in-law got rekt by a 7 year old at the pre-release we went to, she then went 0-4. Don't think she'll ever live it down.
GW is much more expensive right now due to Voice of Resurgence, whereas RB is pretty cheap
- Very fast
- Mainboards efficient removal
- Has support for discard spells
- Has support for burn spells
- Can combat GW due to Lifebane Zombie
- Fairly easy to combat control due to its speed
- Runs out of gas very easily
- Can't combat lifegain very well
- has a hard time against many midrange decks
- Mainboards lifegain
- Some lists mainboard flash creatures, which is great for combating both control and aggro
- Stomps control if played right
- Mainboards pump spells
- Supports Voice of Resurgence
- Supports Advent of the Wurm
- Doesn't support much removal
- Very easy to be 2-for-1'd
- Dies to removal
- Isn't fast enough to kill control pre-wrath
With the strength of control decks in the meta at the moment I'd side with GW, if only for all of the protection from blue creatures it can support.
Forgot that GW also has lots of tokens with populate and indestructibility in the side board to deal with Supreme Verdict.
I hope nobody is going to get bitter now that Faerie deck is back from the dead to rekt everyone's shit ever since Bitterblossom's unbanning
>Mainboards lifegain, pump, Advent of the Wurm
Nigga what are you doing?
Selesnya charm and Unflinching Courage
Granted I haven't seen many Unflinching Courages main board in any of the TCGplayer lists in a while
Oh you're talking about standard. Carry on then.
This would be great. I'll make one if I have to.
Too bad that a playset of bitterblossom isn't going to come cheap.
I was already thinking about making a mono black rogue deck with a lot of prowl effects, but now that bitterblossom is ok....
My wallet wasn't ready for this.
It's a work in progress, but here.
It also has a lot more modern and legacy playables than Theros.
That looks almost like a pauper deck.
Pauper storm would be so nice if only they didn't ban all the storm cards ever.
You know what's funny? Even though this set is enchantment based, I still didn't find one single card to put in my GW auras deck.
It is basically about Kor spiritdancer, aura gnarlid, silhana sledgewalker and gladecover scout covered in thousands of totem armors(ethereal armor and armadillo cloak)
chosen by heliod, gift of immortality and hero of iroas are maybe.
True enough, auras like rancor and umbras would be too fast for this block that seens to be really slow.
There's not a lot of modern-potential cards in BotG, it's an extremely mediocre set for Constructed. The only good cards go to Monoblack.
A card shop I go to buy cards from is already selling Brimaz at 44 USD, then again that card shop is known for overpricing. Is this bad?
Brimaz is barely worth 5 bucks, I'd save my money if I were you.
5$ is too low, I would guess 10$, at least.
Goodnight sweet prince.
>Threads about mtg are better on /a/ than on /tg/
Is it because /tg/ is full of casual EDH players
Modern is my format. Standard is fucking boring right now.
I would into legacy if I could afford ABUR duals.
People who don't grind in Modern don't really give a shit.
Just play merfolk. It's tier 1.5
If I could I'd buy a hundred of him and sit on them until the demand goes up, but I have no money currently so fuck it.
How did they even think it's fair for him to cost 1 mana.
He has THREE GOOD abilities.
Mah nigga. That's what I played before I quit a while ago. Just everything about that deck was so fun. Fireslinger ping into Stormblood Berserker. Racking up those counters on a Shrine of Burning Rage. Top decking a Hellrider when your opponent has one health and you're going to lose next turn. So fucking good.
I don't play Modern anymore but couldn't anyone just use Grim Lavamancer again?
Grim Lavamancer isn't a manadork that can gain you life. It's a great card and will definitely start seeing more play, but it's not at Deathrite's level. Close, admittedly, but it's like comparing S-Class to A-Class
Incidental targetted graveyard hate while doing 2 damage is better.
>Standard is fucking boring right now.
And it's only getting worse, holy fuck this entire block is so bad
I play modern at my local store and with friends regularly. It's a great format.
RIP in peaces DRS, you were just to good. You can join your siblings Jace TMS and Stoneforge Mystic in legacy.
That's why EDH or just simple kitchen table casual play exists
W has one of the only good cards in the set actually
EDH is fun if you don't play it competitively. Just making a 100 card deck and playing it with friends is nice, we make the game slow on purpouse so we can something to do while we chat and eat some snacks.
I can't see a reason why people do these 3 turn EDH combo decks, they are masochists? Shuffling that 100 card monster is a pain in the ass.
I can't play magic without stakes being attached any more. It's boring.
I'd rather chop my dick off.
Hmmm. For some reason I only read the part about each creature in the spoilers, it may fit in the deck. Thanks, I didn't notice this card.
>I can't see a reason why people do these 3 turn EDH combo decks
Being dicks, mostly (IMO). I've always thought EDH wasn't designed for Spike-level play but I guess some people can't help being attention whores. I guess that's why a 1v1 variant was made for more competitive play, then again EDH in general isn't really a sanctioned format, so why Spike it out?
What fun combo deck is fun to play in modern now?
Storm will probably work again now that DRS is banned
You got it wrong son.
Game was designed for 1v1. People started playing EDH anyway. Wizards saw the casual cash cow grazing their grass, and made a conscious decision that that was their target market from now on.
Kiki-Pod is the most skill intensive combo deck in modern. It has the most lines of play and the most single cards in the format.
You and me both, my own UW aura deck stays as it is again. >>101677346 is nice and all but I'd like my Aura cards to carry the Aura subtype.
FNM was shit, mono black everywhere. I don't even know what I expected.
>mono black everywhere
I've heard some people complain about that as far as Standard goes. Well, that's netdecking for you.
This bestow thing is really confusing in my opinion. Why they simply didn't make it an aura? Or it stops being aura subtype after hitting the battlefield?
It matters for my aura gnarlid.
Also, now that you said, I can't bring it back with retether ;_;
Current meta a shit.
New gimmicks for new sets, I guess. The "gods" in this block have the enchantment supertype so I guess they wanted to experiment a little. Unfortunately, Bestow mostly sucks balls.
the GAME a shit. WotC stopped making interesting spells a long time ago. And now I guess they stopped making interesting creatures as well. i didn't think it was possible but wotc actually made a set worse than kamigawa
Come on, man. Tarmogoyf's not that bad.
tarmogoyf was made 6 years ago. i think the game was perfectly fine (although not the direction i would have taken it) for innistrad and scars of mirrodin. ravnica was a steaming pile but had a few interesting cards.
Theros is a fucking wasteland. and not the good kind. there is nothing of value there. most exciting card is a shitty version of cabal coffers and after that there is NOTHING
They explained it today in their development column, and the answer is due to limited again.
It used to be drafted in chronological order, thus to incentivise picking cards in smaller later sets, they'd bump up the individual power level.
With the modern style of reverse chronological drafting this is no longer an issue. Thus power level falls.
No rethether, no bruna, no sovereigns. These bestow creatures might help in midrange decks go into late but they've no use for my aura deck unfortunately.
I know what you mean. Hopefully Nykthos can redeem the almost entirely dead set that is BNG, but mono B will still stay dominant regardless because it already has all the tools it needs for every situation.
Whoops, meant Nyx
I am despairing now, because this was supposed to be THE enchantment block, and it is shit. The next enchantment block will be years if any.
Maybe Aura Swap will appear next set ;_;
MAAAAAAAAAN, I aura swap is one of the abilities I thought that would appear in theros, it is especifically for auras, and fits the lore(iirc, it was some runed wings).
Imagine aura swapping into an Eldrazi Conscription.
>attach Arcanum Wings to my Fencing Ace
>swap it with Eldrazi Conscription next turn
That was my fastest game, I still remember the 'Ffffuck that' face my opponent had.
we need more aura tricks, it's not like this ace swap is ban material.
It probably will be if it got into bogle colors
Good work Wotc, I am more excited about a card printed 7 years ago(arcanum wings) than the entire theros block.
and it is not even rare.
Split the cost with a friend so $45, we each get 18 packs. odds are good
Can you Aura swap bestow creatures? The idea of dumping Chromanticore onto a guy in a deck that can't even cast it correctly is a little exciting.
It says Aura card, although maybe they'll errata something about it if it does get printed again.
Not really a OHKO trick but I use Careful Consideration to discard aura's from my deck and return them back wth Retether or Bruna.
You can't since their subtype is not Aura.
Apparently not, as they don't have the Aura subtype. Yes, you may cast them as Aura spells when you pay the bestow cost, but they are not Auras in your hand.
Joined, hopefully this works out and we can play some children's card games.
I remember Pro Tour Dark Ascension where one of the pros had waifu sleeves. The thread at /tg/ was going nuts.
It's too bad no other pro tour has had threads anywhere near as entertaining as that one. Why was that one so great and all the others so shit?
Yuuya Watanabe and his Azusa tokens too, if I recall correctly.
Watanabe's Azu-nyan shenanigans
I will go pro in magic so I can show everyone my waifu.
He was doing that way before PT DKA.
I was at a GP and used Yuyuko from touhou for some spirit tokens and the judge watching my game really liked them.
Has anyone beaten a pro player with their own pro player card as a token?
A tad bit unrelated but I resent how Japan makes AKB48 card sleeves while other idol groups like MomoClo or MoMusu or even Sphere or Milky Holmes don't get squat.
Forgot my pic.
I think you said that last thread too, no need to force it.
Wow I never thought of this, ChaosTCG would make for great tokens.
Sure, why not.
It's really amazing how they managed to make what they advertised as an 'enchantment block' one of the least interesting blocks enchantment wise in years.
I love enchantments and I can't stand this block. Half the reason enchantments were so cool is that they weren't vulnerable like creatures. Good job with that, WotC.
>tfw only a few more overpriced cards left to complete my Modern deck ;_;
What deck is that? I don't know modern lists that well.
Last GP, a RB Rakdos deck won.
It core? Minus the shocklands, 15 bucks.
Sideboard was a bit pricy too with the Thoughtseizes.
For some fun with friends, replace those with guildgates, M10/Innistrad duals, or Scrys and you're good for some aggro butt rape.
This was a different case. It was Jelger Wiegersma at Pro Tour Honolulu in 2012. He used a Steins;Gate box and Moeka sleeves on day 1. Sadly switched to more standard sleeves before his day 2 top 8 appearance though.
Ever since they switched from the DCI Elo ranking system to the retarded ass planeswalker point system, all that matters is grinding instead of winning.
Fuck WotC. Take away my 1950 rating and tell me I have to take a train across the country every month and I stop giving a shit.
Born of the Gods is such an ass set.
Not sure I even care enough to draft.
Nah, the seiyuu unit. In the event that sleeves for these girls do get made I bet it'll be mostly of Suzuko Mimori.
It's GW Hatebears, you use the "no fun allowed" creatures of green and white to be the Fun Police.
I miss the ratings. I had a 1800 something rating during LOR and was so proud of it, then the planeswalker point shit comes in and no one gives a shit about how many points you have.
Theros block as a whole is shit. Wizards said they wanted a block dedicated to "creature based combat". Except they print cards like Elspeth and Thoughtsieze to completely invalidate everything else.
Taking away the Player Rewards scheme was also a dick move.
>tfw no more full-art promos
>creature based combat
isn't that every block now?
Except maybe Scars, which was just broken ass equipment, for use in creature based combat?
>print big beefy R/G creatures that look too strong at first glance
>make sure they all have 4+ power
>print planeswalker that can one sided wrath them and still stick around to make infinite tokens
Yea, it was great getting a full art foil of whatever rare was good at the time, and it is always a good time when I have to break out my player rewards card and people ask how I got it, then me explaining that they don't make them anymore.
wow didn't know that, I was away from mtg for some time and they do this? There is a reason they use elo ratings for chess championships.
Not the guy you replied to but I have all of those exact same pieces albeit just a monowhite Hatebears variant but I never played it and I'm kind of regretting burning cash for a deck that I'll never use
The previous ELO rating system was flawed for a number of reasons
But what they've replaced it with is just retarded.
Well, at least they sent me my plastic DCI card before they got rid of the previous points system.
I have mine. It went through the wash or something at some point, so now it's completely faded and unreadable.
Modern is objectively the best format to play in right now. Standard and Legacy both suck, and don't get me started on EDH. It's like masturbation, except when you cum in public everyone looks at you disapprovingly and tells you to commit sudoku.
I used to like EDH a lot until it turned into me asking my friends if they won yet on each draw step.
yeah if you can find the group of people, who keep it to retarded giant spell decks instead of a public masturbation session, it can be fun.
Anyone who plays it competitively is retarded though.
>H-hey guys I cast True-Name Nemesis and equip 5 swords on him, do I win now?
>Three clones of Knowledge Pool on the field
>I don't know what the fuck is going on
>No, because I cast Spin into Myth, Fateseal your card, then cast Tunnel Vision; I name "True-Name Nemesis".
>TFW I've been actually beaten up over doing this
And the local TO declared on that day: "No More EDH Tournaments. EVER." Then he retired and shit got crazy again, but it was nice not to have to deal with stuff like that for a few months...
Can't do that when TNN has protection from you.
Yes, but when I did that it was in a three-player pod and I WASN'T the player True-Name Nemesis's controller had named...
Azorius a qt. Orzhov definitely puts out for coin, Gruul isn't house-trained and Simic has a penis.
>Simic has a penis.
Looks like we've found a winner then
Orzhov a best.
I'd populate with Selesnya, if you know what I mean.
That's so RTR. One with the original abilities would be much better.
> Boros: Our numbers fight as one, and our enemies are punished as one
> Selensya: With our love for plants and nature, even the smallest saproling helps the biggest wurm
> Golgari: Our dead will not stay down
> Gruul: We thrive in battle and get stronger with blood
> Simic: Our mutations share their genes and gain each other's traits
> Dimir: ?????????????
> Izzet: We can replicate the smallest spark to generate the biggest flame
> Azorious: We will punish a small crime with a small sentence, while showing you what happens in a bigger crime
> Rakdos: We will hastly spennd all our resources and revel in its madness
> Orzhov: 2spooky ghots. haunt ur creatures boooo
Original Rav was so much better, mechanically speaking.
Some of the abilities were a little dumb flavorwise, but mechanically all of them except Radiance and maybe Haunt were great.
I love old Ravnica abillities. They were unique and made decks builded around them really fun. Damn I just love Ravnica as an idea, city guilds that combine diffrent colors. Damn that expansion was great.
I liked radiance. It's a good abillity, just cards didn't use it really well. Radiance buffs worked pretty much as all your creatures and they were not a lot of agressive playable radiance cards.
Original Rav is probably still my all time favorite block
They really just did everything right
My heart says Izzet or Rakdos, but my competitive record says Orzhov... And yeah, Original Ravnica was great.
>Pic Unrelated, but my local Card Shop has one for sale at $199.99
Pyromancer is OK, problem is control is pretty popular now, but since Nacatl is back maybe that will keep control in check giving you the edge.
I play Soul Sisters got a top4 on a PTQ last year, i have been messing around with it since M14 gave it the new legend rule(flagstones of Torkair is now a must imo), and Path of Bravery, but i havent been able to play it regularly, i lost last FNM due to a miscount that got me to 29 life instead of 30 wich wouldve been lethal double Serra Ascendant.
This makes it so you can play without any remorse, before if you had good rating you COULDNT go to FNM because if some scrub got a lucky draw and won your rating went to shit.
Yeah i like boros so when i found out about EDH i was like "ok lets see, every boros legend and good white and red spells", then i just couldnt do anything because my deck was too fair and started going of by turn 4 wich by EDH standar is when people start winning. The worse part is they are like "you should change this and that and look for this and add a senseis divining top", fuck you i tought this was the casual format im not going to spend 20$ on that stupid top.
The old method had its flaws, to be sure. It also used a baseline 100% win rate like chess does, which is pretty much impossible, as even the best players will tell you. That's why we play best out of whatever, instead of one match.
But the new system leaves a lot to be desired.
I run Dimir mill for my standard deck.
It works, sometimes. My favourite match was against a mono-blue mill deck.
I let him mill me down to ~20 cards then used psychic spiral, winning the game for me. Had a good laugh.
>mfw the first place winner of the BNG prerelease got 11 packs
> Play T1 Bids of Paradise
> They drop a fetch and pass
> I drop a land and pass
> They crack the fetch
> Drop aven midescensor
NO PTE LANDS
NO SEARCHING UP TRON PIECES
NO FUN ALLOWED
>t1 birds, t2 leonin arbiter, play ghost quarter, waste their freshly fetched land.
How did everyone do at FNM? I hope you had fun playing against mono-black and UW control all day,
Reposting from the last thread we had:
I managed to get the 2hu set someone made working in Cockatrice, and made some balance changes. No guarentees of actual balance or completeness. If anyone wants the set or the cockatrice cards.xml file, or wants to play, let me know.
Man, you should make this shit draftable
Then again we'd have to pull 8 players out of our ass to make that happen, so maybe not.
There is a way to draft it, if we could find the players for it.
Something similar is doable in Cockatrice, but a bit more difficult. If people are interested, I'd love to do a draft with /a/.
I'm up for it if we can get the people, you should designate an IRC channel or we can use the cockatrice chatroom to wait around.
Could always use the steam chat
There are 9 people in the group and online, even, though dunno if theyd be interested.
The huge problem I find is that mtg can be altered by luck, if you mulligan until you get 5 lands in hand, and draws 3 more lands, you will probably lose no matter how good you are.
Now imagine how much points the top ranking player would lose against a newbie.
Newest set I'm working on, just started recently.
You can check all my custom sets here:
All are designed for draft/sealed play in mind; hopefully this please >>101693425. Unfortunately, this includes throwing in a bunch of filler cards, which I keep getting asked about a lot.
Yeah, it would be nice if we had more members.
>Blaming luck for your draws
>Not knowing how to deck build
Look, some decks can be really hurt by a mulligan.
Decks like Faeries? Fish? BR aggro? They'll happily mulligan
Not to mention that once you start packing fetches, shocks, duals, and deck filtering, the rng is very minimized.
Load up a full modern or legacy deck on cockatrice. Tell me often you get rng screwed.
I agree. In the context of high level play, it's pretty much a non-issue.
The thing anon is talking about though is going to an FNM instead of sitting on your rating (which is what you wanted to be doing if you had a high rating). The odds of you actually getting screwed are low, sure, but the reward for not getting screwed is minimal and the punishment for getting screwed pretty harsh.
Alright, I think I've gotten this working/packs made. Unfortunately, I have plans in about half an hour, so I can't really test it, or participate in it, but here are the links in case anyone else wants to.
Taebl files for the set before distributing into packs
After distributing into packs,
Oh, and you may want to zoom out/extend table size and rearrange the packs.
Thanks, I'll have to take a look at this later.
Why you don't have a Yuuka card?
And you have some cards twice, although with different templates.
I didn't make the set. I'm just sort of maintaining it. IIRC the person who made it was going to do an entire block, and would probably add other 2hus then.
The flip cards show up as two cards because that was the only way I could get Cockatrice to recognize them as two different cards and display rules text. As for the other ones, I'm not sure, I think there might be something in the card notes about it.
You put my set into a .xml file? Thanks mang. I'm curious as to what you changed.
Here's the other two sets. Please tell me what I awful things I did.
I'd use a clear frame for that.
Couple of nerfs here and there. Mini Hakkero was broken as fuck, still quite strong.
Fixed the wording on a couple of cards. Players can't do damage, only card effects can. "As an additional cost to cast <cardname>" on a couple. I had to rename a couple of cards because Cockatrice refused to import the images if they had non-english characters or colons in the names.
I'll take a look at the other two, and try to combine them into one .xml. The issue that I'm running into with the Cockatrice route is that it will only assign card images if you have the files locally and run magichack yourself. If I could find some way to host them easily, I could distribute the .xml instead.
Like this? It actually looks nice.
I'm not well versed in the errata, so thanks for letting me know.
Yeah, I'm a shitter.
Looks good. Real nitpicks here, but WoTC uses the contraction "it's" in its wording.
Apparently I have "looses" everywhere. I'm a bigger shitter than I thought I was.
I will take a look on the set, will give my opinions probably after you leave.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Wizards uses contractions whenever possible, so I changed a bunch of "cannot"s to "can't"s.
The second set fixes a few of the issues I had with the first set as a whole (No hard couterspell, aggro is virtually non-existent), and seems interesting so far. I'll have to fuse the three together and run some playtesting.
Its really more of a better Gaea Cradle IMO.
No, not really. Nykthos doesn't count creature tokens and requires mana to activate.
How about tokens created from Progenitor Mimic or Followed Footsteps?
I was suggested to put in a mana fixer, so here it is.
Tokens that are copies of cards have copies of the card's mana costs, so they give devotion. That's why Pack Rat is a thing.
Yeah, those are exceptions and aren't really seen in decks that Gaea's Cradle is played in i.e. elfball
yes but Nykthos can be put in any color deck, making it better than Cabal Coffers or Gaea Cradle for people who run colors other than b or g
Still doesn't make it strictly better than those lands.
i love some of them mtg card makers
your right, it's way more versatile though.
I love how you guys sage and report anything you don't like into oblivion while saying shit like ''not anime related'' but a thread like this gets 250+ replies cause you hypocrites like magic.
Fuck you guys and your Pay2Win formats, Pauperbros WW@?
Split a box with my friend. He opened shit, I got 2 Kioras and 1 Xenagos.
Thats not even mtg its cardfight vanguard
I was saying a similar event happened in which a little girl beat a nerdy fat man at my LGS.
Well, I had a match against a little boy in rtr pre-release, although I won against him, my socre was lower than his.(I ranked 38, and he ranked 27 out of 64)
Can someone advise me on a decent G/B deck utilizing nemesis of mortals? My theme in innistrad/DA was deathfed and I'd love to play something similar again.
Cry me an Island, nigga
Done whining? now go away
Wight of Precinct Six, lotleth troll and that 4-drop gorgon with scry.
Get those Grisly Salvages, Nighthowlers and Commune with the Gods
Creatures like burnished hart, lotleth troll, wateland viper and nighthowler are good.
Putrefy and golgari charm offer good support and removal.
Commune with the gods and grisly salvage will mill yourself.
Alpha authority gives hexproof for cheap, and makes your creatures almost undefeatable in combat, and helps your lotleth troll trample some damage.
You just need some trmaple enablers to help your nemesis.
>You just need some trmaple enablers to help your nemesis.
I've got some Nylea lying around
Thanks guys, I tend to forget certain cards exist.
>not thinking mill is the funnest kind of deck out there
Please, don't insult us.
We already have enough shit to put up with since the last block.
Deadly Recluse also cover some air.
Elvish mystic gives you mana boost.
Gatecreeper Vine could be better than Elvish mystic, it gets you an almost unremovable land that will give you 2-color mana.
Jarad's Order is a bit costy, although it is really good.
Treasure Find can return those nemesis of mortals that went to your graveyard.
Gaze of Granite can be an almost one-sided board swipe with X=2 against hatebears and X=3 against mono B.
Jarad can also turn your nemesis into a 10 damage bomb.
Also, Underworld Connections are good.
Erebos Whip will gain you some life back.
In this deck nylea becomes S and uses erebos whip.
Nylea is a good option, although you probably won't be seeing her turn into a creature very often.
Are you fucking serious man, Legacy is the best format.
I mean Modern's a lot better post deathrite ban but damn, haven't seen an opinion this wrong in ages.
