As Japanese, I must say if you do not know Japanese you should watch dub anime because subtitle version miss many phrases and details when characters speak fast
>>
Only if you get terrible subs.
>>
>>101657725

where do you get good subs
>>
I don't get it.
Japanese people don't learn to read at a decent speed?
>>
>>101657847

No. Subtitles leave out information. What is not to understand?
>>
Or you could just gain some basic reading comprehension.

If you do not know Japanese how can you judge the translation?
>>
>>101657674
本当に日本人の方ですか
>>
>>101657961

yes
>>
>>101657674
Op, we are reading AND listening to characters at the same time. We know what intonation is.
>>
>>101657940
Who do you think complains about translations? The people who can't/refuse to learn japanese and complain that they are wrong subs. People who know it don't give two shits and just watch the raws.

I conveniently do, so no issues there.

Explain how a written english translation leaves out more information than a spoken one
>>
>>101657881
You say this as if dubs don't. You aren't really Japanese, are you? This is just a troll thread, right?

He is serious.

The characters will speak too fast and I think subtitle creators cannot get enough text on screen with given time
>>
>>101657674

I would agree OP if engrish dubbing did'nt choose such piss poor voice actors

Ever watch Tatami galaxy?

Those subs went fast as fuck and I'm pretty sure they got everything.
>>
>>101658157
Ehat was the last dub you've seen?
>>
>>101658125
So it's a reading comprehension problem on your end, right

and that doesn't address how spoken dialogue is any different
>>
>>101658125
>I think subtitle creators cannot get enough text on screen with given time
Protip: You can fit more text on screen at once than characters can speak. This is also why battle manga tends to have awkward pauses in fights with characters standing around talking. The text was in the manga but they need to pause the fight in the anime to fit it in. Talking isn't a free action in video.
>>
If you're really Japanese you would know that anime characters don't speak fast at all, compared to actual Japanese people.
>>
>>101658297
Why anime based on battle manga rather.
>>
>>101658125
>I think subtitle creators cannot get enough text on screen with given time
>I think
>I
Nice opinion bro.
>>
>>101658292
Not the anon you're responding to, but I've heard from translators before that subtitles often have to leave out or summarize information just so the subtitles can be read quickly. That's pretty normal.
>>
>>101658044
if it were a true spoken translation but they also have to match the english to original movements of the mouth, making it a dub
>>
>>101658292
Not him, but listening to something in a familiar language takes the exoticness away from your animu, and gives you an experience that's closer to what native Japanese people would see and hear
>>
Listen, there are some sub groups that leave nothing out because they are completely fluent in Japanese and English.

A good recent example would be Damedame!

With the damedame subs, I never lose any meaning behind what the characters are saying. Not only that but their episodes take up close to 50-60 MiB. Along with that, they really are active in their fanbase's community.

Keep watch for Psycho Pass soon to be subbed by the damedame!
>>
>>101658412
People can generally read faster than they can speak.
>>
>>101658478

completely false

Dandy obvs
>>
ITT People who have only ever watched media in their native language.

You get fucking used to subtitles.
>>
>>101658516
It isn't though. Read something and time yourself. Then read it out loud and time yourself.
>>
>>101658566
I watch subs all the time. That doesn't mean that I'm delusional enough to think they're always an 100% accurate translation.

Dubs and subs are equally likely to leave things out. If you want the full experience without any worry of something being lost in translation, learn Japanese and watch raws.
>>
>>101658566
When I watched movies in english, I always turned on subtitles, even in video games. Anyone complaining about subs is obviously a slow reader.
>>
>>101658566
Watched subtitles for 13 years; but still enjoy the novelty of listening to Chinese 'toons in Eigo
>>
>>101658566
ITT watching subtitles makes you fit in

Romaji however, japanese is fun to something about not reading.

>The characters will speak too fast and I think subtitle creators cannot get enough text on screen with given time
You can read between twice and three times as fast as someone can speak.

And with enough time you can learn to hear and understand Japanese even if it's not perfect.
>>
Nobody gives a fuck you nip. If I can enjoy watching anime with even less effort with minimal phrase loss I will.
>>
>>101659114
He ain't no nip.
Nipped in the bud
>>
Japanese people are known for being slow and dumb. So while it's perfectly okay to have the opinion OP has, the wiser choice would be ignoring it.

Watch NHK dub with subtitles also and you will see what I mean
>>
You should always watch something in its native language.
>>
HERE IS PROOF.

You don't know Japanese but think you are magically right. Morons
