I WAS NOT READY FOR THIS
I know I'm late, but bear with me
Always happy to contribute to a Mayoi thread.
Funny that she's the youngest girl, but has the most mature relationship with Araragi. Underneath the back and forth banter, there's some serious respect going both ways between the two. In my eyes, she's the only one he really treats like a peer.
Nadeko is the youngest.
It's okay OP, I was super late when I watched this part. I cried like a bitch.
Yeah, she said it herself - the only people he confides in are her and Shinobu. He goes pretty far to protect the rest of the cast.
In appearance, Hachikuji is. Mayoi is in her 20's, in reality.
One of the only times I got emotional at monogatari.
She's coming back...right? ;_;
I believe there was a line from Hanekawa somewhere along the way claiming Hachikuji to be the one that he's closest with.
Doesn't Shinobu have the appearence of an 8 year old, while Mayoi is 10?
We can only hope Anon
I have no interest in watching anything after S2, now. I had no idea how much she carried the show for me.
Dammit anon why do you have to open wounds.
Is Shinobu supposed to appear older now than she was during Bakemonogatari?
were you in hibernation?
>watching any of the -gatari shit
There's no way she won't come back.
There's no way
There's no way
If it serves as consolation, my wounds are still open and bleeding profusely ;_;
I lost the monogatari drive in the episode before this one, and just got in the mood to continue. So yes, I was in hibernation.
Really only reason to watch gatari shit is because of
But mostly Shinobu and snail
>replying to low-level troll seriously
By the way, the novels aren't over yet, are they?
Can I hope for Season3?
I don't know if respect is the correct word for it, it's more about the fact that Hachikuji is Araragi's main pillar of emotional support. It's specifically mentioned in Nise, but it's in Oni that the degree of Araragi's emotional dependence on Hachikuji becomes evident. What I'm wondering is how Araragi will deal with suddenly losing that support.
It was said that there are plans to adapt the entire series.
How evident was Araragi going to Mayoi for support in Nisemono? It's been a few years, and I wasn't exactly paying attention to her back then.
That's not Commie. Commie had "I bit your tongue" which is totally wrong.
The line was always "I bit my tongue" which was changed to "I bit your tongue" when she kissed him.
It fits artistically while the "flubbed" line is absolutely retarded.
But she said the exact same thing she always says. There was no change at all.
>It fits artistically
It really tied the whole thing together for her final moment.
So you're admitting Commie just plain made it up because they thought it worked better? That's dumb. You're dumb.
I don't speak Japanese so I can't say which one is correct.
In terms of writing and artistic flair, saying she bit his tongue is better.
no you stay new, cause he's right. the only reason to watch this are for 800 year old vampire in a loli body and snail.
Well, there's the talk at they have at the very beginning of the season where they pretty much outright say as much. Also she gives him advice on multiple occasions. Araragi also says he is "happiest when he's with Hachikuji."
It's part of the ambiguity in Japanese grammar. Sentences don't always need to have subjects. In the case of Hachikuji's line, it's "kamimashita", which literally just means "bit". The subject, "I" or whatever is understood from context, as is the direct object "tongue". It could mean either one.
89ji a best. Sh-she comes back right?
these threads are getting annoying
I only saw the first 5 episodes of bakemono and dropped it. One of you faggots tell me which gatari series this moment is and I will watch everything up to that point and I bet I wont cry or whatever it is you faggots do once you get there
I wonder why it is that he continues to chase after Hitagi, even when he's obviously at his happiest with Mayoi.
"I bit my tongue" was always a pretty bad (and not remotely accurate) translation, and it's really inappropriate in Oni, making a lewd joke in the middle of what's supposed to be an emotional scene. I have no idea what Commie was thinking.
About 40 episodes in.
Do you speak Japanese?
Oh man just wait for the Koi OP. Now that's something no one was ready for.
How the hell is biting someone's tongue when you just kissed someone "lewd"? I like to think this sexual conservatism is mostly tongue-in-cheek on /a/, what with girls being "pure", but sometimes I do wonder.
tell me what I have to watch
bake > nise > ?
Watch in release order, dipshit.
Neko, if you want. It's only 4 episodes.
This thread is mostly talking about things that end at episode 16 of Monogatari Season 2.
I almost cried. It cut deep. Snail is best monogatari.
1: Hitagi isn't completely recovered
2: Hachikuji is DEEEEEEAD
3: Shinobu is more important than either one in the end
That said, I did consider Hachikuji to have a pretty decent shot at a dark horse victory.
I didn't pick up on much in the beginning of the series. Is Araragi only with Hitagi to help her recover?
No, Koyomi is explicitly in love with Hitagi.
It seems like a perfectly reasonable translation to me. I probably would have translated it the same way in most instances.
Obviously it is ambiguous like I explained above, but I think Commie's interpretation of the line in this context is reasonable. Of course I tend to like Commie subs because I think they do a better job than most at trying to convey the overall meaning and feeling of the original rather than a neckbeard-approved "literal" translation.
Despite being so distant with her, and spending minimal time with her? I can't read Hitagi for jack shit.
I speak enough to know "kamimashita" doesn't mean "bit my tongue." Even "flubbed" is more accurate despite sounding like complete and utter ass.
I don't know what kind of whore household you grew up in little girl, but frenching is pretty damn lewd. Not to mention it's not even accurate to what was depicted onscreen.
There's lots of implying implications that he is. In the end it comes down to how Nisio decides to leave things in the end.
>Implying he won't leave them exactly as they are because leaving ambiguous relationships to the reader's interpretation is DEEP
I just finished clearing this off my backlog, and want to read Kizu.
Is the anime a good enough adaptation of the novels that I can skip right to it, or should I read all of them from the start?
>Despite being so distant with her
>and spending minimal time with her?
It's just a plot thing that you don't see her on-screen too often. They spend a lot of time together in reality.
He's only with Hitagi because she got there first. He basically has no real reason to be with her, he falls in love with whoever is with him at that moment.
He says it himself, he would give up everything in his life to go be with Mayoi - including Senjougahara. That's just the kind of person Araragi is.
I really hope the glaring problems in their relationship come up soon. If Senjougahara and Araragi don't break up I will be mildly upset. She needs to find other reasons to live - as everyone else is learning this is more to being a person than Araragi's existence - and he needs to get his priorities straight.
>watching 40 episodes of a show you dont even like just to fit in on 4chan
I don't think he's with her because he wants to save her, he doesn't have the self-confidence for that. I think he's with her because he thinks he loves her.
>>101661011 I speak enough to know "kamimashita" doesn't mean "bit my tongue." Even "flubbed" is more accurate despite sounding like complete and utter ass.
Your Japanese proficiency is either far lower than you think or you're being deliberately difficult.
Not literally, "I bit?"
I'm not the guy you're quoting but the line seems to literally fit as "I bit (something)." In earlier instances it would be her tongue and then in that one his, that's the joke isn't it? It felt natural and touching to me.
And the guy he's quoting is the only person arguing other wise.
Do note that he did screw up the quoting so maybe that confused you.
He certainly wasn't in love with Hanekawa in the end. Hachikuji is a special case, this is a side of Araragi that I doubt Hanekawa, Kanbaru, Sengoku, or even Hitagi have ever seen.
I agree that Hitagi needs to move on from Araragi. They say they're in love but they have a pretty twisted relationship. A pretty major point is that Hitagi says she fell in love with Araragi because "he's the real thing", however in this scene Araragi basically announces to Hachikuji that it's just an act, he basically denies what made Hitagi fall in love with him and proceeds to offer to cast her aside for Hachikuji's sake. (Rather, for his own sake. Hachikuji is okay with leaving, he's not okay with Hachikuji leaving.) Simply put, he cares more about Hachikuji than he does Hitagi.
>I bit your tongue
Fucking kill me. I'm a huge Nadekofag, but that moment was the most emotional scene by far.
They are adapting Kizu into a movie.
>Still believes Shafts lies.
It's supposed to come out sometime during 2012, if I'm not mistaken
Yeah, I can't wait until it's released in 2011.
The actual usage does not mean "I bit my tongue." Even if you were to try to argue the literal meaning, Commie fucks that part up with the "my/your tongue." They miss the actual meaning of the phrase and still fuck up the literal meaning nobody uses on top of that.
How many more Madoka movies Shaft?
WHYYYYYYYY CANT IIIIIIIIII SEE THE SUNSPOTS IN YOUR EEEEEEEEEEEEYES
How long have they been making this movie for?
Like 5 years.
>Hysterical landwhale screaming
Get the fuck out.
>not knowing snowing
You keep saying it's wrong, so how would you have translated it?
What is with this ridiculous wait then
>not "Sorry, I bit your tongue"
Stuttered/Mumbled or something similar depending on the context is the most common and least offensive translation. "Flubbed" sounds like ass, but I can't say whether it's worse than Commie's translation. Overall, it's not an easy routine to translate satisfactorily, but Commie's translation really ruins that particular scene.
thats what we'd like to know
Wait am i missing something? is there something after nise?
Theres a possibility.
What a lolicon.
He's an inspiration to us all.
What do you think "I bit my tongue" means?
Your not an native english speaker are you? Cause I don't see how anyone could find Commie's translation offensive.
She did grow up to be quite a knockout. I'd probably pick her for best girl, but Shinobu's love is pretty intense.
shinobu is intense period
So, why the FUCK aren't the LN's translated? I read Kizu the other day and really liked it, but it's like the only one fully translated. What gives?
Shinobu can't bring out the best side of Araragi like Hachikuji can.
She's not a bear you idiot, she's a snail.
>I will never have my own ghost loli to help me
>What do you think "I bit my tongue" means?
In English? It means "I bit my tongue". It's a phrase most commonly used literally, unlike "kamimashita".
>Your not an
You shouldn't be trying to lecture anyone on English, especially considering you apparently only know one application of the word "offensive".
>He doesn't have his own ghost loli
I didn't think people like you existed, but wow.
I only had enough for 1, and I chose the ruse
On the contrary, Servile Araragi is the best Araragi.
He's best being eye to eye with someone, as he is with Hachikuji.
>expecting people to double check the grammar on an imageboard
And mind pointing me to any dictionary that has whatever other definition of offensive you're using.
>November 14, 2012 - Nekomonogatari (Black) completed.
>Eye to eye
Dude what. Did you even watch the entire conversation they had when Hachikuji was going to pass on?
