Read AI BUSTER 1, Play IMOQ (Infection, Mutation, Outbreak, Quarantine) (Ps2), Watch SIGN, WATCH ROOTS, PLAY GU TRILOGY (Ps2)

Then you could play LINK and the clusterfuck of movies that came out around that time, but nah you don't have to go through that. You can skip IMOQ and just watch SIGN, ROOTS and play GU though, if you wanted.
