Why do anime rarely have OSTs with lyrics ? When there's one, most of the time it's to close the
Why aren't there any western songs in anime ?
Why can't we have episodes ending with 5 minutes songs like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwnmKVN_2r4 playing during a cliffhanger ?

>OSTs with lyrics
Bad idea.

People are supposed to focus on the anime, not the soundtrack.

>Why aren't there any western songs in anime ?
Because, Japan?

There's plenty of anime with songs from the west, like Paradise Kiss, East of Eden and BECK. They're just rarer because (I assume) the licensing fees are expensive. A lot of anime are either owned or sponsored by companies that own record companies in Japan, so it's a lot easier for them to get songs for free or cheap because they're basically just giving out free advertising.

There's even more anime that do have OSTs with at least some songs with lyrics in them (most of Yuki Kajiura's work, for example, plus Welcome to the NHK, Attack On Titan, etc...)

You can make montage and things like that. Relying on showing instead of telling the spectator.

Most of the songs they use in anime aren't that good and only serve to make scenes look more "emotional". Rarely works.

>only serve to make scenes look more "emotional".
That's what soundtracks are supposed to do.

And yes it works. Trust me. It works.
Watching anime with sound turned off and subtitles on is shit.

>You can make montage and things like that.
You shouldn't make an entire anime series like that. And choosing how to depict something just based on the fact that you want lyrics in your OST is a stupid idea.

I'm talking about these OSTs with lyrics they use to close a season, like Clannad S1. They're rarely better than average.

Not an entiere anime, just a few scenes. Relying on visuals instead of spoonfeeding the spectator could be good.

>Not an entiere anime, just a few scenes.
So you still need to plan the majority of your OST on the premise that people will be talking to each other.

>They're rarely better than average.
That's a different matter entirely.

It's not like I said the contrary.

Why do Nichijou and Haruhi OSTs have three times more music than the actual shows?
>>
>>101615799
Are you pretending to be retarded?

OST is mostly the background music. Do you know what does it mean for something to be a background?
Western songs are not in anime for the same reasons Japanese songs are not in Hollywood movies.
Cliffhanger is still a part of anime, the very important part, even. Why would you use the most distracting soundtrack you have at that part?

>It's not like I said the contrary.
You complained about the "rare" usage.
>>

I'm complaining we only have one song in a whole season. Having 3 or 4 would be better and wouldn't fuck up the interactions.

>I can't focus if there's a song and events on the screen at the same time

There are soundtracks with lyrics. By that meaning their own songs with lyrics not western songs. However if everything would have lyrics then it would be hard to understand either what people say or what the singer says.

Besides lyrics could be from opera to pop or hip hop. Both exist commonly already.

As for western music; there are plenty of good Japanese songs to pick from. There is also a license problem, as the use fo certain western songs are just too expensive to use 1-2 times in a series run. I would rather spend that on things that matter for animation than spend more money on just 2-3 songs that will just be played a few times.

1) Kyousougiga, KLK, P&S, Champloo, etc.
2) Jojo, Ergo Proxy, Lain, Higashi no Eden, etc.
3) There are.
What are you watching to not encounter this shit at least once?
