Worth-watching? Y/N

Give some opinions /a/ Im planning to watch it.
>>
Remember the prom? Yeah, kinda like that.
>>
watch it for Nana. Apart from that, basically porn with plot

School Rumble - You should've figured out by now why I don't like this series
Elfen Lied - The prime suspect behind the red filler tool. Random limbs splashed across the screen and lolis, what a great combination for me! I could stand the first 10 minutes, as ridiculous as it is. But once the nyuu~ shit started happened it became a chore to force my way through it. And then there was the extremely forced drama, and the random harem that happens, and the logic of the characters ("We just found a naked girl who acts like a cat complete with cat ears, let's take her home and make her do chores!"), and the sound design. I know that last point is one you're hardly ever going to hear, but it's true. Normally anime sound design is absolute shit and I've come to accept that, but Elfen Lied is the pantheon of shit sound design.

Sure, it may have had a shit load of blood, but that was also all it had: lots of blood and random limbs gushed over the screen, but it never really went further than that. Shigurui carries gore to an entirely next level. The amount of detail is astonishing; the creators have an amazing amount of medical knowledge, and they use all of it. When a finger gets broken, you see exactly which bones dislocate. When an arm gets cut off, you see exactly how the muscles grow back.

Without the violence and the loli fanservice, all you have left is five minutes of mental masturbation that newfags call deep and psychological.

If the whole series was like the first 10 minutes of episode 1, it would be the best anime ever. Sadly it goes on a rollercoaster wavering between moe and gore.
>>
Watch it, but if you come back here saying it's deep you need to kill yourself.
>>
Idea: They should make a sequel set 10 years later with an adult Nana, and it should be written by the mangaka who made Eden: It's an Endless World!
>>
It's worth watching.

It's WAY too hyped though.
>>
>>10161165
Can't polish a turd.
>>
>>10161102
Yes, very.

>>10161137 makes valid points, but comparing this to Shigurui (as fucking awesome as that series is) is basically pointless. They are so very different in intent and design, and Shigurui benefits from a bigger budget, and being made a good many years later, when the general quality of animation and sound design has risen.

The point of Elfen Lied is to take the characters from a harem series, with all of their questionable logic and happy go lucky attitude, and drop them into the middle of a horror movie, just to see what happens.

It's absolutely worth the time it takes to watch it. Whilst not as deep as many people make out, there is some really interesting characterisation in there, and a pretty good story too.

This is true, it's worth watching for nanas arcs alone.
>>
>>10161605
I hated eureka seven.
>>
Its one of the anime you should have watched before you got here.

The music is decent, the animation is decent, and its reputation is pretty huge. Your question, 'worth watching' is a definite yes, though if you don't like it after Nana battle then you'll hate the second half.
>>
>>10161668
Eureka seven hates you.
>>
>>10161687
...ok?
>>
>>10161605
Eureka Seven had an awesome premise. It was about a counter culture revolution fought by surfing robots against sentient coral. I am hard pressed to not find the awesome here.
>>10161102
Anyways, Elfen Lied is weak sauce, but you may as well watch it. It's not like you have anything better to do.
>>
The 2 best things about EL for me was the OST and Nana.

Overall it's nothing above average though.
>>
I enjoyed it.
>>
>>10161593
This.

>It's absolutely worth the time it takes to watch it. Whilst not as deep as many people make out, there is some really interesting characterisation in there, and a pretty good story too.

Also, some good background art (yes I fap to clouds).
>>
Worth watching? Yes.
Best ever? Not by a long shot.
>>
>>10161102
I watched it all at once and had like, post traumatic stress. Do it faggot.
>>
I baaaaaaaaaw'd at the end.

I don't care if it was forced or not, I cried little girly tears when that guy blew wheelchair girl up.
>>
>>10161593
3 years is not "a good many years" and unless you can link me to where they post their budgets I'm not taking that ponit either. And sound design has always sucked, and it still sucks. Thos 3 short years have done barely anything on that front.

I'm not comparing Elfen Lied and Shigurui's intent or design, I'm only compareing how they presented their voilence and gore. Elfen Lied chose to go with tossing a bunch of red coloring around along with some limbs every so often. With Shigurui they present everything as detailed as they can. Two broken fingers accomplished more than 10 minutes of random violence in Elfen Lied could even hope to convey.
>>
>>10161765
seriously? Wheelchair-girl was a bitch. Nana was the ONLY sympathetic diclonius and that's because she never abused her vector powers.
>>
>>10161135
>Without the violence and the loli fanservice, all you have left is five minutes of mental masturbation that newfags call deep and psychological.

I am seconding this. I fucking loved Elfen Lied when I was 16 and had only seen a handful of anime, but in hindsight it is among the worst anime I have ever seen.

Obligatory.

This is Elfen Lied in a nutshell.
>>
>>10161793
all she wanted was a family
>>
>>10161819

i would have loved lucy tenderly
>>
>>10161819
doesn't excuse her killing that technician and the other guards.

A MORALFAG HAS SPOKEN
>>
>>10161811
I think I might watch that now.
>>
not many episodes, so just fucking do it already.
>>
Just watch it so you can troll it.

It's mandatory faggot.
>>
It's pretty good if you ignore /a/'s intense hatred and just watch it without having some issues against it already. Just don't take it or yourself too seriously (which is how all anime should be watched anyone). Just enjoy it if you find it your thing.

It's not super-deep or whatever, but...I doubt it was ever trying to be. People just use what some fans have said about it as a fucking torch to carry against it.
>>
First few minutes was awesome. Then it went to shit REALLY REALLY fast.
>>
>>10161819
All the diclonius were pretty well evil. They had a natural drive to kill people. Nana was the only one to never give in to that drive, though she came close. Lucy tried not to, but everyone kept on being an asshole and treating her like shit.
>>
>>10161767

Poor wording on the "good many", I'll grant. However these few years have seen a great deal of improvement in the general quality of animation.

Accepting that as a tangential point, consider this: You say that the two broken fingers in Shigurui (again, an awesome scene) convey more than Elfen Lied's blood and gore, but you need to ask exactly what it is the violence is meant to convey.

In Shigurui the sheer carnival of carnage that Elfen Lied uses simply wouldn't be appropriate. However by the same token Shigurui's two broken fingers would be largely meaningless in Elfen Lied; the person would go to the hospital, or their high tech medical facility, and get it patched right up. Painful and unpleasant, but nothing compared to what some of these characters have been through.

The damage being dealt to these characters needs to be on a level where it is permanently debilitating, beyond any of our medical science to repair. Similarly the body counts needs to be high just to justify the expense that obviously goes into containing and studying these creatures. What is more, it's important that the violence appear quite casual, because this is a part of Lucie's character. She doesn't really take the time to torture slowly, she just swats people aside like bugs, because that is what they are to her.

My other thoughts on the somewhat exaggerated violence of Elfen Lied go back to my comments about the harem / horror mash up. The violence is horror violence, not drama violence. Elfen Lied deliberately borrows the tropes and visual effects of slasher flicks so as to emphasise just how out of their depth the characters really are.

If naked lolis can't make /a/ like it, then nothing can. Shit sux.

(although I personally liked it and recommend it without the trolling part)

Same with Evangelion.
>>
its for kids who think watching anime with a lot of gore and girls with sad pasts makes them an anime expert.

My friend loved it, I watched it and thought it was very generic. MYSTERIOUS GIRL WITH MYSTERIOUS PAST AND MYSTERIOUS POWERS HAS COME TO EARTH, NOW THE MALE PROTAGONIST MUST TAKE CARE OF HER AND HAVE SEX WITH HER JUST LIKE HE DID WHEN THEY WERE KIDS.

It's worth watching, back when I even considered it my favorite anime.
>>
Pretentious bullshit anime. Tries to be the next Evangelion and fails miserably.
>>
ITT underage faggots trolling EL
>>
so in summary
a good watch, /a/ hate it because its popular.
>>
I love it how the 'deep' argument always gets raised when EL is discussed. It's as shallow and fan service-laden as GL is for fuck sake.
>>
Gore is good. Who gives a shit if its fucking generic or whatever. Its cool
