What is the most underwhelming anime you've ever watched?
Kaze no Stigma wasn't that bad.
I just finished it. The final arc was pretty underwhelming but everything else was alright.
It wasn't bad, but it was very underwhelming. All the correct elements were lined up but it didn't go any further than that. Everything about the show hovers around 'really fucking average'.
Azumanga Daioh. I had really high expectations because it was such a big deal on 4chan back in the day. Holy crap was that a boring show.
It's only underwhelming if you were actually expecting something. Kazuma was pretty alpha.
Kazuma himself was thoroughly enjoyable. The world needs more alpha MCs.
MC was a suave motherfucker and put the tsundere in her place, worth watching for him alone.
Black Rock Shooter. It wasn't terrible, it was just bland. Fight scenes were great though.
the only reason I didn't like the show was the whole. Mc gets weaker because he is going to kill someone. like I can understand him being weaker because of a berserk rage but it seemed to be a calm anger which seems fitting for a wind user.
Last Exile S2.
Kill la Kill, i thought it was going to live up to all the noise those idiots were/are doing, fucking piece of garbage.
Oh, I can think of something that does that even harder
I'm having trouble thinking of anything because they're usually the most forgettable shows; good enough to watch week-to-week, but not good enough to bother remembering or keeping the files.
Not sure why this gets the praise it does.
Wasn't bad by any stretch, but it's not all that great. Characters are pretty bland, story's predictable, and it's got a bad case of the edge.
>PATENTED 2 YEAR FOLDED NIPPON STEEL
Yeah, for a shitty gary stu male power fantasy.
Feel free to lash out at it anon, the BRS anime was incredibly disappointing.
Can't believe I got my hopes up for it only beacuse of the timeslot.
You just need to leave /a/ and never come back
It's been overhyped.
No matter how good it actually is, it'll never live up to 20 years of being called the deepest thought most thought provoking anime of all time.
I have no idea how it earned that in the first place, though.
You forgot 'edgy' and 'forced'
Damn i started watching this but I don't think I ever finished it. Damn it was just that boring.
Don't forget that she got raped by the villan.
The first three episodes were great. Then we ran out of hamburgers.
Too bad GONZO of all studios animated this shit.
The effects for the flames and wind all seem uninspiring compared to that of Shakugan no Shana, which aired a couple of years earlier.
It's always somewhat of a breath of fresh air to find people on /a/ that share my opinion on NGE.
The show was one of the first things that got me into anime, and for that, I will always remember it, but apart from that, i just didn't think it was that good.
The memories I had of it were much superior to the product I found myself with while watching it again after over a decade,
>I have no idea how it earned that in the first place, though.
For all the praise that its psychological and philosophical aspects people gush about, I found them pretty elemental, to put in a certain way.
Nothing I hadn't heard before, even back in the 90s.
But that final arc was pretty good except for the last few seconds
I can fully appreciate what it meant to the industry when it first aired, but I can't bring myself to like it just because it was avant garde in its day.
That wasn't the point of the post. I don't really ive a shit about your opinion of the show. The link is there to explain the simple concept of why it's popular, and got the praise that it did/does.
It didn't know whether to be a comedy or an action or an edge-fest and ended up doing all three of those things wrong. Like >>101609386 it has all the elements but not the execution.
Valvrave goes in all fields
a lot of the anime posted here have underwhelming endings.
Dragonauts is probably the most underwhelming thing I've watched, for as much of it as I watched.
I could not agree more. The first three episodes were great. The series seemed to have so much potential, then it became one big steaming pile.
all this show was good for was the rape and ntr doujins
I don't typically finish things that I think are underwhelming.
That being said; Sasami-san@Ganbaranai. Holy fucking shit that show was horrible. So much potential bizarrely squandered.
I kind of suspect this might be a generational thing. I can easily see a young millennial seeing this as overrated. But to those of the slightly previous generation, this really is a culmination of so many good qualities. The problem is when you let incredible amounts of praise for a show color your viewing of it to a great extent. It's the Citizen Kane syndrome, only with anime.
I watched back in the 90s, though.
The anime's OST was seriously a downgrade from the OVA's.
I agree with that anime. The elements of action anime is there but the execution left me underwhelmed. Kaze no Stigma has its ups and wodns and I liked it quite a bit due to Kaze being quite a Stigma.
That tells me nothing.
Was it one of your first anime or were you actually aware of all of the typical elements of anime storytelling that it was deconstructing?
NGE's self-aware aspect is a lot harder to see if you don't know where it's coming from. See: Reifags. A lot of them are blissfully ignorant or just stubbornly in denial of the fact that Rei is used as a statement against waifu culture.
Photokano, Haganai next, second half Read or Die
I enjoyed most about this, I do agree with you though, wish it just stayed comedy focused where the MC and FemC anger the villains from not being taken seriously. It is something that is better in print such as manga or LN. MC is scared of losing control so that is the reason he just wants to nap I guess.
Season 2 never.
What's the matter? Does Kazuma empower your pasty ass against bitches?
Full Metal Panic falls under this for me. It's so close to breaking out of just being average, but doesn't quite get there.
Rosario and vampire
I enjoyed it, because I was mostly sleep deprived for days and all hocked up on coffee, and the panty shots were nice, but other than that, the anime itself was fucking awful.
It was good, didn't like the ending though
Kill la Kill
