Not to break your bubble, but although it really looks like sao, I think it's an stylized さむ. It makes more sense, too, since it means "cold".

Oh, so it actually says "Samu"? I haven't gotten that far yet... But since I made this mistake, it'll be easier to separate "O" and "Mu"

Well, it's not like you would usually mistake お and む, unless it's handwritten like that. I know around 500 kanji, and I still can't read some handwritten hiragana sometimes.
