ITT: Shows where the dub is better than the sub
Exactly how it should be
so you bump
*clap clap clap*
You could at least sage, fucking idiot.
only real answer and if you don't think so you're a biased piece of shit that either hasn't seen the show or just only watched the subbed version
Sato, sure. Everyone else? No fucking chance.
Are you OP?
air gear but it still sucks
Yu Yu Hakusho
It's shit. I've watched a few scenes, and it's really bad, maybe not as bad as others, but it's in no way superior to the original.
But the sub was mediocre, dub was good and had fitting accents to boot. Stop trying to fit in with the other weebs
Can't go wrong with Kuwabara.
Only for a few of the characters.
Fitting accents doesn't mean the acting is good. Accents can be shit.
It wasn't mediocre at all. The accents were only fitting if you are american, otherwise you wouldn't care. And a lot of people here prefer the Baccano dub, so I could tell you the same.
>being anything but a Toonami kid
You probably can't even read that kana.
None of the dubs are better than the subs; that's like trying to say that an anime adaptation is better than the VN.
Why would you want Vegeta Kuwabara?
you're just regurgitating what people on this board told you to believe
You are the fucking cancer.
A VN adaptation better than the original seems more plausible though.
CROMARTIE HANDS DOWN
I'm just stating my opinion, which is just as correct as yours.
Deal with it.
if someone took the dub and replaced all of mechazawas line with the original it would be perfect.
Good job making it much less funny.
Every show with an all-male cast.
Spice and Wolf
I would rather watch Elfen Lied than read it. At least then it'll be over sooner.
air gear dub actually sounds like a bunch of skate punks, which makes the wierd slice of life parts (aka the only parts of air gear that aren't awful) better
Elfen Lied is a manga adatation, so it doesn't count.
I honestly can't think of any, but I know of one that's on par with the original. In the dub, there are a few instances where the original did better, like some of Kimura's lines, and Osaka's sneeze, but the dub also makes some scenes better, like the little bit at the end of the famous shoe scene where Sakaki is once again bit by a cat.
No, VNs typically have too many details to fit in, and sometimes the perspective is important.
The Excel Saga dub wasn't bad.
Too bad the main voice actor had to quit halfway through cause she damaged her vocal chords.
Not that the replacement was bad or anything, it's just annoying to get voice changes.
Osaka's dub accent.
Dub was weird in some parts, like the german accent in that one episode was kinda distracting.
El Hazard, so much that the director made the English version the "official" voices.
Excel's english voice was pretty much a perfect copy of her seiyuu counterpart. It was really impressive.
Some of the other English voices were fucking garbage though.
The polish dub.
Toonami was your childhood at some point. 94% of the fandom got into anime via Toonami/[as] and you damn well know it.
Daily reminder Latin American dubs are almost always superior to english dubs.
the only show that has a dub that approaches (but does not equal or surpass) the original is FLCL.
The accent's were fitting because they were period accurate, not because the European you're talking to is biased you turbonerd.
PSG has a really good, believable dub.
Only acceptable answer.
No one's mentioned Cowboy Bebop? Is the original version of it really better?
HEY MAN FUCK YOU THE DUB OF BOBOBO DOES NOT PRESERVE THE ORIGINAL COMEDIC AND CREATIVE INTENT OF THE SHOW AND IM MAD BECAUSE OF REASONS AND FUCK YOU
All I hear when people bitch about dubs.
I once had someone argue with me that anyone who chose a dub over Megumi Hayashibara (Faye) was an idiot
Daily re-reminder that German moe dubs are better than anything else, sub or dub
>All these Toonami dubfags
Why would you watch ES in English
That's like watching PPD or Hayate in English. They're too quintessentially Japanese.
Yes. It was in Japanese
sounds totally gay
yup. i think even the producers liked the english dub more
I watched ES a long time ago, I didn't choose to watch it in English it just happened.
I watched it in Japanese later on anyway.
Agreed, El Hazard is the only one I'd say was clearly superior
Pokemon, but only for the first five seasons. I prefer the English voice acting from the first 300 or so episodes to the Japanese version. I actually enjoyed some of the dub's jokes and Pokemon didn't suffer from the same level of censorship a lot of the other 4Kids licensed stuff went through. They even managed to slip some adult jokes in there, like the James' "Flaming Moltres" costume that he kept in his closet.
Then they went to Hoenn and I'm pretty sure they swapped the script adapter for seasons 1-5 for someone else. Then the puns got even WAY worse, there was alliteration and out-of-place slang out the ass so everyone had really unnatural speech. It didn't sit well with me. Then two seasons into that arc they swapped out most of the original voice cast and the script still was shit (I think they brought the guy who did the Hoenn scripts back). Went to the subs after that.
oh shit I forgot this show existed
This thread AGAIN?
Dubs are something you watch and like but NEVER talk about, like tranny porn or KnK
>Watching anime in Chinese
Latin american dub of all of the Dragon ball saga
>watching any sort of audio-visual programming
>not being blind
>using your eyes
SIEMPRE LA VERDAD
VENCERÁ A TODO EL MAL
Y SI TU
Shut up Sanegeyamcha.
>existing in any form
This is the only case where I prefer the Spaniard opening to the Latin American version. Pegasus Fantasy in Spanish just sounds awful. The rest of the Latin American dub is still GOAT
Cowboy Bebop, Obviously
>knowing you exist
The Japanese version must be really bad if that's true, because that sounds like garbage.
These are the perfect threads for getting an idea of how much /v/ermin scum come to /a/.
Well I am OP and I can tell you I've never been to /v/. I don't even play games
ITT: /a/ continues to prove they're a bunch of retarded weeaboos that believe their opinion is fact
Never change /a/, never change.
That's nice, now go back to >>>/v/, you piece of shit.
Ouch, touched a nerve. Probably even forced you to type with both hands so you had to stop masturbating to your loli 2D waifu.
I'm german myself and why do people like this horrible dub? The way they talk sounds weird as fuck, the voices are talking way to slow, using "-chan" or anything similar in a dub sounds like utter bullshit anyway and it doesn't synchronize at all.
All German sentences sound the same
Let me type out a long list for you:
ICH LIEB KARTOFFLEN MEIN FUHRER DEIN JEWSUN BIST VERYMUCHEN HITLER.
German in a nutshell.
>implying I'm from a specific board
>implying I browse /v/
>implying you aren't irrationally mad right now
Also, for somebody that hates dubs you sure must watch them a lot or else you would be in no position to comment whether or not they are better or worse.
I liked the dub for this a lot better.
>inb4 muh opinions
Neo-/a/ sure likes their dub recommendation threads.
I swear I hope someone fucking rapes you in your sleep. That show's dub is what made me hate dubs.
my impression is that other languages have fewer people to choose from, or have fewer trained people to choose from, and thus are probably worse on average.
Hey guys :)
Neo-/a/ sure hates to read ma-
oh wait that was always /a/
OMG I <3 that show!!!! Do you also like Sword Art Online? Best animes evar!
His voice is sex.
I don't know about you, but there are far more good dubs in Spanish and French than English
Digimon's German dub has gotten pretty good reception.
Digimon is/was huge in Germany. They sold CD's with their song versions, so you could own music for the original four series
Ghost stories is an obligatory answer.
Also, beware of opinions: I actually thought Wolf's Rain's dub was pretty good. Okay at worst. Sure JYB as Kiba could put you off at first but it gets better.
>I prefer the English voice acting from the first 300 or so episodes to the Japanese version.
Aside from Meowth, I don't see how this is possible. Satoshi being a dick who doesn't really give a shit and deliberately makes bad puns is far better then Ash just being an idiot.
>dub better than subs
Any show that doesn't have cutesy females and are mostly male. My top two are Cromartie and Black Lagoon.
While he and Naru were awful, Serena was an awesome character, Luna is far more interesting in English, girl Zoisite kicks ass and Lita is the superior waifu.
The nigga knows.
are these niggas serious?
it sounds awful
I heard Dan Green in a hentai once. Couldn't stop laughing.
>Look ma, I'm fitting in!
Better? No, but the NHK was surprisingly good.
Infinite Stratos. The only redeeming quality that show had was the English dub.
I like it, she channels the Wise Wolf more than the 15-year old girl.
>Now cluck like a chicken
Does anyone else feel that anime dubbing would be a whole lot better if it was mainly British actors playing the roles? British actors with a relatively neutral accents (possibly somewhere in the south of England). Americans just can't help but sound extremely American (and let's face it, decent American actors will always shun dubbing work unless it is Disney or Ghibli, whereas decent British actors would just be happy for the work).
If anything, I always thought if Japanese characters HAD to speak English, it should sound vaguely British. The two countries share a lot in common after all. 2 small island nations separated from the mainland, which happen to be the most economically powerful nations of their respective continents. Long history of feudalism (knights and samurai, and a class system which still persists to this day). Still maintains a monarchy as figureheads. Innovative world leaders when it comes to culture and cultural influence (particularly pop culture). etc etc
Now I'm just wondering which anime character would be best for David Mitchell to play.
I want /pol/ to leave
Actually that American accent you hear isn't even American it is General American. Much like British Received Pronunciation it is only for television and films.
good show, gets shits on more then it deserves, they did the rotoscoping really well whenever they had them playing together.
that said the part where the MC chucked a bucket of oysters at his friend was a bit 2dramatastic4me
Great show though, this part makes me want to watch again, its like in that part in Nodame Cantabile when they played rhapsody in blue
A loli character. I want to see that.
>David Mitchell as an arrogant loli
I wish I had one of those shut up and take my money pictures right now.
Pic not related, right OP?
See my pic for a full list.
1988 was atrocious. The kids didn't even sound like kids.
They never do.
shut up and take my money.jpg
Sorry you have shit taste.

Is this what /a/ has been reduced to? Seriously discussing dubs?
I think you need to rewatch the whole dub and reconsider. The dialogue isn't faithful to the original Japanese, and the voice acting is TERRIBLE. Cam Clarke was the only good thing about it.
Samefag. Also /a/ has sucked dick for the longest time.
Shouldn't you be ruling Neo Hong Kong or something?
American VAs are shit in general, even for American cartoons. Most of the time, people who prefer an anime dub do it out of nostalgia, or because they watched the dub first and it stuck with them, or because they really just prefer dubs to subs regardless of the voice acting. Wouldn't doubt some of them actually watch dubbed foreign movies or live action series.
Not samefag. I'm >>101599462
I'm just real disappointed with you people.
Next we'll have people saying "animes" and "sauce" all the time and no one will bat an eye.
Oh please, stop pretending there was some golden age where /a/ only watched raws and knew how to sage correctly, /a/ was always like this.
I want him to voice a loli. Good heavens is his voice sexy.
I'm not talking about that.
I'm talking about when /a/ didn't talk about dubs in any seriousness.
This thread is truly Reddit-tier.
I want sauce on my animes
I don't hate all dubs but the one for NHK is not good. Lead character sounds horrible.
>American VAs are shit in general, even for American cartoons.
You fucking weeaboo, there are tons of talent in the American voice acting industry. There are also really bad Japanese voice actors too.
We're having a serious discussion about why dubs are shit, with some trolling banter thrown in to keep things lively. Get a grip. What did you think was going on in this thread?
I've been here for years, I assure you, nothing has changed.
there is great voice acting for the more popular american cartoons. must of them are either for kids or comedy though. american studios have huge budgets and can hire real talent.
Anyone who says this has come from Reddit.
I'm looking at the thread and not seeing much discussion on how dubs are shit.
Seems to be positive to me.
Okay but when they changed up all of the voice actors after the second season, it turned to complete shit
Wrong. I've never gone there for more than 5 minutes at a time.
It's too fucking shit.
>What did you think was going on in this thread?
Unfortunately you guys are serious.
It's like starting a sasuke fanclub thread, and then it becomes a serious discussion. That's you.
Look, I hate Seth McFarlane and his Liberal-Atheist agenda and his unfunny as fuck shows, but the dude can act. And sing.
Ironic since that's something I'm sure the girl in your picture would do.
Tomoko isn't that entry level.
Nice comeback, you fucking faggot.
Those are some tasty tears.
Ghost in the Shell TV and that is debatable. Makes it easier to watch and the VA are good most of the time but can seem a little uninterested at times.
The girl who voiced Panty in panty stocking was made for that role.
The rest of the cast was typical shit. The demon sisters were awful.
Arguments used by actual faggots. Oh the ironing.
>awkward lines that sound like stretching paragraphs seemingly devoid of punctuation or inflection
>uninteresting, same-y and indistinct voices
Do you know where you are?
I agree with this. I love Jamie Marchi for some reason. Her voice, anyway
It's funny, because a lot of gooks sound exactly the same as well. I can never tell them apart.
You're still a shitty little faggot.
>I've watched over 20 animes and I still can't tell the voices apart! They're shit!
Just stop watching anime. I don't want to share a hobby with someone like you.
PSG's dub is far better than sub
Sub just didn't fit Jormungand anyways.
The Dragonball series.
I thought Fate/Zero's was pretty good while watching the first episode, until they ruined it at the end when Saber said "Are you worthy enough to be my master?"
And on topic, I thought Infinite Stratos' was better the the original, though that's due to the girls talking in funny accents, especially the cockney and the little one-eyed Nazi
>It's funny because I never actually said that!
Sorry to burst your bubble, but chinks are all the same in terms of range.
You know when you're saying this, you're saying that the English voice-over remake is better than the original animation.
Your picture shows the sole reason why it's dub was awful.
Dragon Ball Z
>I've only seen clips of Bible Black and think all dubs sound like that!
All of them. (almost)
>Thinking shitty Chinese voice acting actually sounds good
>Thinking this while reading distracting ugly subtitles that are in English and not Japanese
Oh yeaz, I heart SAO! Kirito-kun and Asuna-chan are so kawaii together! I also love Naruto, and Boku No Pico
This is objectively wrong.
You're not serious, right?
Only because she didn't sound like she was 12? Her acting was leagues better than the sub.
She didn't sound like she was 12 in the original.
Anyone who says "objectively wrong" is objectively wrong.
How can anyone think dubs sound remotely good?
Are you all deaf?
I prefer the more mature dub voice than the just another high school girl of the sub. In the dub they at least tried to make her sound like a European.
How can anyone think
"WATASHI WA KAWAII DESU NE? UGUU~" sounds remotely good? Are you all deaf?
>Calling someone deaf while willingly listening to Nip voice acting
>tried to make her sound like a European.
What does that even mean? If anything, she sounds like an American bitch.
/a/ would be a great board if all anime was suddenly simuldubbed
imagine the chaos
You honestly think that is bad? Post some clips of what you think is good acting please.
Why the fuck does anyone on /a/ actually willingly listen to gook squealing?
Why are you such fucking weebs?
Just kill yourselves already.
The dub is definitely not better than the sub but the dub is decent enough that it is worth watching.
>Ever thinking the dub is not the best
Get the fuck out, weeb.
I wish trolls actually tried
I absolutely cannot stand the voices they chose for lelouch and suzaku. I could have put up with suzaku, but one of the funnest things in C;G is lelouch's cocky haughty voice.
I feel you.
Why does anyone defend the horrible jap voices, anyway? Are they just that pathetic?
I sort of was okay with the Princess tutu dub.
>misaki is much more adorable in japanese voice.
JYB is cocky. Because he's a cock.
I disagree, the male lead sounds better in the original japanese and I hated Misaki's dub voice.
So then her dub voice fits the bitch more.
anyone who thinks they can judge if the Japanese sounds good or not without knowing Japanese are just fooling themselves
>Hating best girl
I wouldn't say Lelouch's dub is bad, it's just different. Jun just does an amazing job and it is really hard to compare. The dub actor can definitely pull of Lelouch's charisma, he just doesn't try and mimic Jun's Zero voice. Which is probably a good thing because it would likely sound like shit.
"Girl you 'aint got to tell me twice!"
"What the French toast!"
she's not a bitch she just wants to be loved!
Just finished watching the dub today after watching the sub several months ago. They actually did a good job with this, also it's impressive that it was the first anime role for Kai's VA.
How does the dub industry keep going?
Who the fuck buys their shit?
Johnny Yong Bosch needs to stop using his prepubescent voice. It's fucking ear grating.
Baka & Test was shit no matter the language.
>Peter Chung will never do designs for another anime ever again
Kai was fine, but some stuff in the script and side characters were lacking. Especially everything that had to o with Frau...
Gee, I don't know, maybe people who aren't fluent in Chingchongspeak?
Again, pretty good, but not better than the sub.
You mean people who aren't fluent in Chingchongspeak AND can't read.
People are becoming more and more retarded with every generation, now they can't even read subs. I read an article a few months ago that showed that no one would watch a subbed show on TV anymore, only dubs, and this is a country were 15 years ago nothing that wasn't aimed at little kids had a dub.
You guys ever notice how the shows that some people actually claim have a good dub are always the same shows a person now in their 20s would have watched when younger, in the age when one would usually start getting closer to anime but still ignorant about it?
That is to say, the toonami anime?
What a crazy coincidence, don't you agree?
This is no small demographic. I'm constantly amazed by the number of people who seem to never actually read ANYTHING if they cn hep it.
Then again, with the amount of time we spend on the internet and with nip cartoons I guess /a/nons would be a bit atypical.
I should clean my keyboard.
>Baka! Rules are supposed to be broken
>Uhhh, no. But straddle his face and give him a last meal
>You rancorous whore
The dub writing was superior, and don't act like horribly pronounced "Wha sa hell" is any better.
Anyone who prefers subs to dubs should be labeled a traitor to his country and shot.
People still watch and like dubs...well..when they're good.
Too much nepotism and no fucks given in the industry now. Everyone else shagged ass out of dodge so they can get into video games.
School Rumble. I really liked Harima's voice in the dub and I thought Tenma's voice in japanese was terrible.
Romeo X Juliet
That fucking movie.
>15 years ago nothing that wasn't aimed at little kids had a dub
>Yu Yu Hakkusho
Yeah, I figured some people, and most of /a/ would hate the leet speak, but it fits her character.
You do realize just about every DVD/BD and streaming site allows you to watch the content subbed as well right? And maybe some people are stupid and crazy enough to want to support the industry (please don't make me explain again how buying from a licensee helps Japanese creators).
>Romeo X Juliet
>Good in any language
Why do people get upset when you like a dub? Seems silly.
Part of the problem is that they added even more memes to Frau's dialogue...
Sounds too serious. And Valmet sounds too serious. The voices are just missed; they're great voices, but they're really different from their Jap counterparts.
Black Lagoon has a better dub, imo.
Because anything but glorious Nipponese is filthy gaijin trash and shouldn't be discussed on this superior Nippon-inspired website.
But that's who she is, any other character and I would have been pissed but all the memes worked with her.
Oh just shut the fuck up, you don't even belong here.
Voices were great, and it got rid of all the engrish. Fuck you if you think otherwise.
Hell yeah, they even left a lot of the honorifics and if I recall not a single technique name was translated.
>that wasn't aimed at little kids
Honestly the only legit answer I'm willing to even think about. All of those songs sounded so much better in the dub.
Thank fucking god, his art is shit.
Many of those American anime voice actors eventually go union (or financial core) and start starring in American TV, films, or big-budget video games (see: Yuri Lowenthal, Troy Baker, Kari Wahlgren, DC Douglas).
I am semen the dicker
Dragonball Z Kai :3
Greg Ayres has a great singing voice. He's the male Susan Boyle
COURAGE IS THE MAGIC THAT TURNS DREAMS INTO REALITY
And you agreed with him in the end, right?
Wendee Lee is ear sex.
Then why are you linking to the subbed version?
