what was your entry point into anime/manga?
Not considering childhood stuff, it was Fullmetal Alchemist.
Robotech and Speed Racer, the dubs. Skipped battle shounen. Got into anime for the sake of Anime with FLCL.
If you mean something that you watched to completion, I don't really count watching a few episodes of One Piece while waiting for Ed Edd n' Eddy my entrance to anime.
I watched anime as a kid without realizing it was "anime." The very first was Captain Tsubasa.
The anime that got me into anime was Eureka seveN. I'm glad it was my first.
G Gundam when I was 9 or 10.
Zatch Bell, but I never finished it. I think I got bored of it around that castle arc when I was a kid. The first anime I finished was probobly Soul Eater. And damn, Soul Eater was good, well, ya know, besides the whole courage punch BS.
No wonder you grew up to have such shit taste.
Probably Cardcaptors or Sailor Moon. I really should rewatch em both.
shonen crap like that and naruto put me off anime until I was like 15, and started watching good shows like Akira and GitS
You think that's pleb?
My favourite meal is beans on toast. With milky tea.
It's sad how few know this one.
Evangelion and DBZ
I had rewatched Evangelion a lot back then since I had the VHS tapes.
I started with Spirited Away and Castle in the Sky because grandparents kept getting them from the library when they didn't want to watch us.
Then moved onto the big three anime and thought, man this is pretty bad, and stopped after a few epidodes because I didn't know what the fuck was going on.
Then a friend got me to watch FMA:B years later and it was amazing.
So FMA:B is my first real show.
Star Blazers or Battle of the Planets..Although I think Mazinger may have aired before it..I missed it though.
Then Force Five and Robotech.
I watched a lot of anime back in the days, however back then no one knew they were from japan or anything of that sort, mind you that was more 20 years ago.
I think the first anime that i actually referred to anime due to my big brother was Sailor Moon, first season. After that i found out about Dbz(back when there was no dub in any country whatsoever) of the internet and the rest is history
Probably Love Hina.
beans on toast is pretty god tier
white bread or brown?
>what was your entry point into anime/manga?
Sailormoon, Gundam wing, CCS. I remember a certain channel used to air late night anime like legend of the four dragon kings, and the 3x3 eyes OVAs in the early 2000s. I can remember liking these shows before knowing exactly about 'anime culture' and anime and they were usually dubbed. As for subbed shows Inuyasha was pretty influential for me.
Brown if I'm hungry, white if I'm feeling classy. Heinz is a no brainer.
I know that feel. I didn't (and still don't) know what Manga literally meant, after I saw Akira, I just knew it meant quality, grown-up (for a 12 year old), beautifully-drawn, highly stylized Japanese animations.
you are clearly underage
21. I didn't start watching anime until late highschool.
As in first actual anime/manga or first experience knowing that it's anime manga?
First scenario would be Cowboy Bebop or Dragonball Z
The latter would be Naruto
I don't know why you even need to make the distinction. When I saw Akira, it didn't matter that it was Manga. It mattered that it was fucking lightyears ahead of the rest of the shit that kids were fed at the time.
Watched most of the anime that aired on TV in the early to mid 2000's - Pokemon, DBZ, Yugioh, Gundam wing. The first series i downloaded and watch sub'd where probably Beck, FMA and Eureka Seven.
Just for the sake of it I guess; I could see a lot of people replying to OP's question with "Pokémon" or something
Sure, I saw DBZ , sailor moon and speed racer as a very young child but the first anime I really got into knowing it was anime was Android fucking Kikaider which no one seems to remember.
Dragonball and Dragonball Z.
Then I got into Ghost in the Shell pretty heavily.
Don't watch anime much anymore, though.
Watched some episodes of Robotech on TV when I was a kid, then watched the 1st US TV run of Dragon Ball (only the first 13 episodes), then watched Teknoman when it ran UPN on Sunday mornings. In high school, a group of nerds would spend lunch time in the Spanish teachers classroom and watch Dragon Ball Z vhs fansubs on the TV/VCR in the room.
When I was in middle school, a bunch of Korean kids were obsessed with Dragon Ball Z, they'd bring Shonen Jump tanks and copy the art during class.
In high school a friend lent me his copy of Gunsmith Cats: Return of Gray trade.
The original Full Metal Alchemist.
Umineko no naku koro ni.
Please kill me.
Fucking K-on about a year ago
Mio best girl
Neon Genesis Evangelion
I'd watched it with my brother because I thought that animated = nice fairy tale for kids. Didn't understand a thing, but it gave me inflation and plugsuit fetish.
Blue Submarine No. 06 or My Neighbor Totoro
I think watching Blue Submarine No. 06 did something to me as a child.
