>Crunchyroll is now killing manga scanlation as well
Manga scanlation always had on average the shittiest quality in translation you could find out there. There's no way to ruin it.
>Implying CR could do all the manga that gets scanlated daily
They can go after the more famous mainstream at best.
Maybe CR will actually get up to date with their current scanlation projects before picking up a new one.
is not that bad more money towards the business isn´t bad(I hope) and with some luck the translation will get better over time
Why does everyone hate crunchy roll?
I watch shit on it all the time with my girlfriend and is much more convinient than downloading a billion different shows with different translators for each and every one.
fuck the businesses, I want my free entertainment.
Careful not to fall for it
You get a star for the effort.
Why even respond
Honestly I prefer CR to mangafox
For Apocalypse no Toride mangafox has been hogging the translations for about a volume or 2, now with CR doing it, it'll at least get ripped and hosted elsewhere
I'm asking a question, not trying to troll or anything.
Shame that batoto are jews and won't host stuff from CR or other offical sources
You don't know where the fuck you are apparently.
Lurk more faggot.
I would rather get a new chapter close to when it gets released in Japan instead of waiting for months hoping that maybe a new chapter will get finished soon.
Well obviously, I don't browse /a/ much so I was just asking a question hoping I'd get an actual answer.
Speaking of CR, has anyone ripped Spirit Circle 20?
I can't find it anywhere
>streaming your manga
Oh wait never mind, it's on nyaa
Damn, if I can set up an RSS for manga on nyaa now, this might not actually be that bad
>obviously, I don't browse /a/ much
Then why are you still posting?
yeah bro remember all those amazing berserk and jojo translations
It in the thread, they suuuuuck
And we're telling you to browse more.
>getting an actual answer
>not earning the knowledge from the blood sweat and tears of being an /a/non
Because I'm waiting for answer that isn't "lol lurk more"
Lurk more, faggot.
be nice if that dude calling himself crunchyscans had his shit together and released by volume, not in giant clusters
Cr staff pls go
You mean saving, just like they did with subs.
I'm just curious as to why you guys don't like CR.
I'm with you man I love waiting four days for SYD subs.
It's shit and you have to pay to use shit. Thanks. I can shit by myself and actually watch anime in good quality for free too.
Ok you see what >>101521868 wrote right?
Lurk more isnt just some troll response it wants you to actually spend time with the community and learn about it so you can contribute quality content to it.
Do you want to be a good part of the community or just a leech doing nothing for the community but wanting everything?
The business gets ruined by this though, since if we would have to pay for manga, we wouldn't be able to check out which series is good or not, thus the quality check costumers would bring would become useless, which in return gives publishers the wrong idea on what is good or not.
Do you not have anything else you could be watching that 4 days matters this much to you?
I don't remember people bitching this much even about Joshiraku subs
Because I already pay for my internet.
So it's the cost?
Hm, I can see why you guys wouldn't like it now.
$7 isn't a lot in my opinion but I can see why you wouldn't pay it when you could download it for free, I like the convinience of being able to watch it on my big screen instead of my monitor.
Thanks for the answer.
Why can you watch CR on your big screen but not anything you download? That makes no sense
On a side note, netflix has Attack on Titan
I rarely browse /a/ so I don't plan on staying nor do I plan to contribute anything.
I had a simple question and you all threw a shit fit.
Have a nice day, peace.
If I had a picture of a slowpoke I'd post it
My computer and my big screen are across my Housman and I prefer not to bloat my computer with tons of anime when I could be using that space for porn or vidya.
Basically it's because watching anime from the elevens has always been free and even legal since what's good hasn't even been licensed here. Then CR comes in, basically puts up a sign saying that unless you watch it from them, it's illegal. The whole reason Horriblesubs exists is to spite them.
We threw a shit fit because you openly addmit that you dont want to be part of this community yet you still demand to know stuff from us.
You want us to give you but you wont give anything back
No one will miss you.
Is this 1995? You can buy like huge multi TB HDs for a hundred bucks or less
Copyrights are recognized globally in most countries due to international treaty. It was never legal; you were merely ignorant.
HorribleScans would actually be pretty good. I don't follow any manga that are ongoing, and it seems like a pain to do so. Having lots of stuff in one place would be nice.
What you mean is
>It was never legal, but no one cared so it didn't matter
You seem to be confused, I said I never browse /a/, then you guys cried about me not lurking.
I didn't post that I don't plan to contribute anything until after it all was over.
I am aware of that, I've got 3 2TB Hard Drives stuffed with vidya, porn, and music.
And like I said, I don't feel like downloading lots of series with varying translators when I could just stream that anime whenever I want.
They can't do that you idiot. It's impossible.
Most of the good stuff is ignored and relys on shitty fanslators. E.G koe no katachi, boku girl, monster girls.
No matter how big CR gets they won't be able to catch every series and pay to translate everything. If they do pick l up those series then there are several others that can replace them.
And if the fucking group doesn't translate that shit fast enough they deserve to be killed.
The funny thing is, the actual Japanese producers probably still don't give a fuck.
I love you /a/nons.
Call me a worthless cancerous little newfaggot with shit taste.
Why do streamfags feel the need to push their shit in everyone's faces all the damn time
you're a worthless cancerous little newfaggot with shit taste, I also fucked you're slut waifu.
What if a European did it on a European site, hosted on European servers?
But I don't feel that way about Run yet.
What are you talking about?
I guess we'd have to pay them in crunch Euros.
I wanted to wait for an actual manga thread, but I might as well ask here.
I wanted to buy something for reading manga and watching anime, if possible.
I thought that a Kobo Aura HD would be the best option, since I usually read, watching anime is a rarity for me.
Browsing on some other sites, though, I saw that I could by a Nexus 7 for the same price.
Considering that I could actually watch stuff on a tablet, could someone help me with the choice?
If I bought a Nexus, I could watch anime, but it would have a lower quality for reading.
Meanwhile, if I bought a Kobo, I would have a 10/10 quality, but no anime. What to chose?
>tl;dr Nexus 7 or Kobo Aura HD?
>not plugging in your PC to your 42" TV
Well, at least you didn't pull the "I'm supporting the industry!" bullshit.
A fucking computer.
Good enough to be picked up by a licensor and translator.
I've never even heard of a Kobo Aura but it looks like its just an eReader
Why would the manga be in lower quality on the Nexus? It's got a 1080p screen. I read manga on my damn phone sometimes and it looks good
how are the netflix subs?
Didn't Mamare (creator of Log Horizon) already say that it does support the industry?
Are Crunchyroll scanlations good quality? Are they being ripped?
>crunchy roll removing artist comments from the side pannel of magazine chapters
>crunchy roole removing honorifics
>grungy broll using english names for characters
you can torrent stuff and watch anime on the nexus
Funimation sub. Not bad.
I can't watch or read stuff for long enough if I don't have the device in my hand.
On a computer I read at most 1 or 2 hours everyday.
Meanwhile, if I read physical copies of book I can go for 6+ hours.
It's like sex for the eyes, but better. The Kobo is one of the best eReader you can find.
By lower quality, I mean that the eReader emulates paper, which doesn't tire my eyes as much as a tablet.
They're being ripped but they appear to be about the same shitty quality as their subs
They'll get the point across but they'll probably change shit around for no reason and make up their own dialogue
they are pretty good from what I've seen so far
He also said he can't voice support fansubbing due to his relationship with the studio. Plus he probably doesn't know shit beyond what the studio told him.
>shin-san noticed me
>Mr shin noticed me
>Mr steve noticed me
>Steve's a bro.
If you're only gonna use it for anime and manga, and mostly manga, then I'd say get the eReader. I'm getting a Nexus because I'm gonna use it for tons of different shit, but if all you're gonna do is mostly manga, and you have over-sensitive eyes, then obviously an eReader is best
Do they do the spread pages and color pages right?
I don't have oversensitive eyes, but I'd obviously use the tablet for a lot of shit if I decide to buy it.
I just wanted to know an opinion strictly regarding anime and manga.
I accidentaly some words.
>I don't have oversensitive eyes, but I wear glasses.
>Killing manga scanlation
I do make the joke in the scanlation threads, but it's not gonna happen.
CR is already stretched thin on anime, and it shows this season, with their numerous grammar, spelling, editing, and other mistakes.
Too many manga, not enough time nor staff, unless they start buying up scanlation groups, which I don't see them doing just yet.
There's no stitching.
Obviously it's not gonna actually kill scanlation
I think it's just obvious to some that they're finally elbowing their way into the manga scene, especially with Duralumin potentially dropping Spirit Circle because of them
They already said they wont because they don't like the quality.
As expected from an AoTard who streams
Paying for lower quality when better quality is available for free is beyond retarded.
>As I said before, the plan is to keep releasing for at least a few more chapters. Comparing the raws to CR’s translations will also give me some idea as to the quality of their staff on this project.. CR has had some ups and downs when it comes to TL quality, and I can already tell there’s a few points of style I disagree with from the first chapter, but they’re mostly personal nitpicks. If I think they are doing the series justice, I’ll probably drop this project or at least put in on the back burner since they will be faster than me too.
You can't read too well
I didn't read at all.
I saw it on the SC thread.
It's only faintly related to the thread, but I was wondering if anyone has a screencap of that mod who lashes out against rec threads?
>>Crunchyroll is now killing manga from being printed as physical books and the entire market in turn
I won't buy digital manga nor subscriptions with no downloads to keep. I want my New Manga Smell.
>trusting anything /a/ says
Why don't you check almost every post he makes in the archive?
>There's no stitching.
Fuck. Maybe we'll get dedicated teams someday that will stitch CR's scans.
is it me or is /a/ slowly being populated by either denial weaboos or CR/Funimation marketing-social managers?
Implying groups would let them buy them out.
I mean, if people wanted casualized translations that are over localized then theyd just wait for it to get translated and buy it at a bookstore.
CR is only going to translate the most mainstream shit thats at the top of the charts, cause CR's main focus is plebs.
please dont let CR take my tomodachi ;-;
It's just you. The hate for CR is alive and well.
Solve this, please.
2004 was 30 years ago
>Why don't you check almost every post he makes in the archive?
I'm not really sure what to search for. Putting ## Mod in the tripcode field doesn't bring up anything, and their name-field is simply Anonymous.
>Implying groups would let them buy them out.
Some groups are full of Jews.
I'm sure that at least a few of them wouldn't mind being paid to do what they did for free.
Not really no. Why would CR do marketing here?
Majority of ood /a/ grew out of anime now aoo thats left is oldfag otaku and the wave of normalfags coming in from other places.
Normies want characters to be renamed in localized anime.
Just how many retards do we have in this thread?
glorious yuropoor, I can pirate whatever the fuck I want and nobody gives a shit. Also thank you glorious French market for translating everything, merci beaucoup.
>CR/Funimation marketing-social managers?
This is pretty much a given, unless they have really incompetent people at marketing in CR.
to make normalfags buy from them? it's a normal practice in other sites - amazon does it and I've seen moralfags furiously trying to promote funimation in other boards (without success, the chans weren't as gay as today)...but that was some years ago. I don't know if "social marketing" outside facebook and twitter is still a plan for them
Funnly enough, there was just discussion about CR picking up Koe. And they grabbed 7 witches and Watatsuma and Shirogane no Nina already.
CR wants to take the grey market and monetize it. Anything that's popular is up for grabs, don't think your entertainment is safe.
w-w-where did everybody else go?
>This is the kind of people who is starting to browse /a/ nowadays
and by buy from them, I meant US licensed anime from any company
>HUrr durr he likes what I don't like better call him b8
>Not speaking an objectively superior language like Esperanto
>discussion about CR picking up Koe
Yeah after like a year its been on /a/.
There will be another manga to replace it. We just need one random anon to find a gem, translate it and dump it. Then we read that for a month and move to the next thing.
yeah, well I'm pretty sure your beaner language doesn't represent 50% of the yuropoor market.
Yes, but why here? There are way more places that are more populated, have higher income and hate crunchyroll less.
but I saw stuff like UQ Holder and Fairy Tail which are still being translated by other groups (let's not mention that they will only be able to stop english translation, the rest of the world will still download from elsewhere)
and of course, will you read from CR if you know they will censor things?
I assume they're piss yellow like all the subs on netflix. No idea about translation quality as I've only briefly seen netflix's subs.
That wasn't even the point. Congratulations in being a complete retard.
whoa, it's like my daily reminder that I need to learn moonrunes.
That too was bait.
We're here for you anon. Just don't be a faggot and start asking shit you can find by googling or reading the guide in the OP.
The sort of people who do CR will pretty much eat up whatever they put out, really.
I assumed we were all NEETs. Leeching from a community is what we do best.
I don't drop things I like until their over. Chasing the grey market area is certainly valid, but it means that you don't get to actually follow series. I guess that's fine if you have ADD?
Yeah, but anytime CR picks something up it is in their best interest to squash availability. We're still on the internet, so you can still find those translations, but CR wants it to be harder unless you're a subscriber to their service. That's what makes CR a problem for fansubbing, that there's a company that wants to make it harder for people to find fansubs.
we all hate CR but 4chan is already known in the internet and outside too. they already know the fags at animesuki, gaia and god knows what else will take the bait...now that everyone "knows" about 4chan, /a/ has just become a niche market to conquer...one normalfag at a time.
of course, this is my opinion...things might get faggier in the future for /a/...the ones that are left will go back to the underground, where we used to live before the interwebz.
Manga translation scene if so fucking weak.
Even hentai and doujinshi translations are more important.
My point wan't that we regularly drop things. it was that there will always be another obscure manga to pick up.
That an anon will translate.
A lot of people here might end up lurking some smaller and more obscure chan or similar place in the future when things go too down south.
thank god that wont die
and if it does, I wont mind buying from toranoana or melon books if only I were an eleven. no weaboo-homo
>4chan (site domain: 4chan.org) is the most popular English-language imageboard community with over 700,000 posts per day made by roughly seven million daily visitors.
Oh no, looks like your "secret club" has been found out!!!
you're late...they have already started taking over this with horrible results
Cool, but what if I like a thing? Of course there's always more out there. That's the point of monetizing the grey market, you're able to swoop in to something that has an established audience after it's been discovered and people cared enough to buy it and translate it and clean it up for general viewing, all for free. It's in anything like CR's interest to allow people like us to be a ital part of their screening process.
Doesn't change the fact that they'll keep taking stuff that was originally "free", putting their little label in them and starting a witch hunt to make sure we can't get it anywhere else. There might be other manga out there, but each manga is a unique irreplaceable thing that you're losing free access to. It's already dangerously close to happening with spirit circle, what more proof do we need?
Why do you care so much about such a shitty manga?
what's the EU cover?
>It's in anything like CR's interest to allow people like us to be a ital part of their screening process
>It's in anything like CR's interest to allow people like us to be a ital part of their screening process
It's just an example. Whether it's shitty or not is completely irrelevant to what I said. The point is that they might eventually pick something you like and if they do you might soon be forced to pay for it and still have no choice but to read their own translations which historically have been less than satisfying.
deflectin' like a harem protag
The whole point is that CR wants to take manga popularized by fansubbers and make it a subscription to access it. If enough people like ANYTHING, it's liable to happen.
It's okay, I read manga raw so it won't affect me so long as share and PD aren't affected.
>losing free access
Well to be fair someone will always rip CR and upload it for free.
So you could do that.
none...we get nothing
it's the internet, everything will always be free.
No ones asking you to pay it.
Every manga on CR will be ripped and uploaded to some torrent site somewhere, It's not like the mangaka was getting the money anyway.
Nothing pleases me more OP.
Spent 3 hours today scanning, finish up, go to choose the folder where they are all to be saved, client crashes.
3 hours of scans gone.
Hope no one out there was looking forward to some manga.
That feeling when you pay monthly for a Crunchy Roll account and enjoy it greatly, while also occasionally buying DVD's from Funimation .
lads, I couldn't be arsed to buy the light novel of Spice and Wolf, where do I find french scans?
Can I get a serious answer Why___________________________________?
Thay changed it back to normal.
I signed up and it's not as bad as I was expecting. I don't read all the series so I can't speak to everything, but I didn't see glaring errors.
MGX: translation is pretty awkward at times, probably not a native English translator?
Yamada: not bad, localization maybe not as good as sharky, but at least no cussing. Pretty sure I saw one context error though.
Coppelion: Translation is pretty good, although the series is shit. Some confusion on technical terms but that could well be in the original.
Android app: doesn't keep track of where you are in a series, which is very annoying. Doesn't tell you about new chapters either. Haphazard filling of title field in chapter list. Poor choice of color and font sizes.
well, reading that means I can go happy to bed. good night, /a/
Either your scanner client is the worst thing ever made or you have no idea what you're talking about.
I missed some keys, but yes the point I was trying to make is that CR is trying to use people like us to figure out what manga will give them the best return behind a paywall. That's the whole dang point of this, trying to monetize what is currently not. It'd be admirable to try and get creators compensation for their work, but from what I can tell CR gets most of it like most business middlemen.
I can't tell if it's /a/ getting worst.
Or the anime industry in general?
So from the sounds of it you are paying for an inferior product.
Did you also buy an Xbox one?
How can Crunchyroll kill manga scanlation when Kondansha manga aren't as popular as manga from other publishers?
If you check the publishers that scan groups target the most, Shueisha, Shogakukan, Square Enix, and Kadokawa are far more popular manga publishers than Kondansha and therefore, most scan groups scanlate manga from these 4 publishers much more than Kondansha manga.
Is OP just pulling shit out of his ass?
I believe it's the former. I've checked everywhere in and it always comes up 'no image data'. Can't find anything in the program folders and files either.
>tfw the only manga I can by in my country are battle shounen
>tfw I can't buy anything in my country
Look in your temp files
nope, they still sold the american ones. the other US covers were worse
Shit, I have crunchyroll premium mostly for some of the deals in the store, which can be good (free shipping makes the diff), as long as they are fulfilled.... I'm looking at you Maiko Madoka. Good thing I already had her.
Not on windows.
They did change it.
I bought it already. the good cover is UNDER the american cover so you can throw that shit away.
click the second thumbnail under the book preview, there's the american cover.
If i'm wrong again, then good for the consumer but from what I understand is that the move was made to try to appease the "normalfag" market
I don't know how if it has a double cover, but I bought the novels from a site here in Romania and they were with the original cover, even though it was an english release.
Well, there's your problem.
I'm american, I bought it a few months ago and got the left cover.
After the fan outcry after the release of the first LN having the American cover they got the Jap covers for each subsequent release. The first couple had the American covers as dust covers you could easily get rid of. Later releases completely ditched the American covers entirely
First Megaman, then Kirby, now this. Why are Americans so retarded when it comes to creating an image for a product?
How will they attempt to implement DRM into the pictures so you can't save them?
Is that even possible?
They just xor every byte with 0x42. All you have to do to undo that is to xor it with 0x42 again.
Probably implement some sort of flash loader that is cumbersome and slow.
I'm pretty pissed about CR killing every fansub group, but when it comes to Manga Translations this is a good thing.
No more "scanlation" drama between people you don't give a fuck.
No more vanishing translators.
No more groups going defunct.
Most manga had piss poor translation, and were always on the verge of some autist having a shitfit and canceling every project.
Assuming your on Linux, scanning with CUPS actually gives me less trouble than scanning on Windows. I've never been able to scan over the network on Windows.
If you're printer is setup already, skip this paragraph, if not go to localhost:631in a browser and set it up, you can find print information you need from the printer if you need it, if you're using a big DE you can just go to the Gnome/Unity/KDE print settings and I'm sure it's already automatically found your printer.
Make sure SANE is installed, then just type this into a terminal
scanimage -p --resolution=300 --format=tiff > filename.tiff
You can use an alias in ~/.bashrc so you don't have to remember all that shit and just can type "scan filename.tiff"
alias scan="scanimage -p --resolution=300 --format=tiff >"
Also a gui that does all this called Xsane if you want it.
It also has support for batch processing and using the automated document feeder if you have one, however I don't have time. Run scanimage --help.
If you were on OSX this entire time then I don't know.
Is crunchyroll even doing OK financially.
Just saw the archives.
Remember /a/, the word "stream" attract retards. Just don't reply and report them.
I wrote a script to rip chapters from CR. Anyone want anything? I tested it with Spirit Circle 20 and that worked fine.
I can also rip "half-raws". Those are pages with most of the japanese whited out but without CR's awful to mediocre typesetting.
I think they've said before that the only thing that keeps them alive is Narutards subscribing.
So in other words Naruto is saving anime.
>Awful to mediocre
Please anon, the typesetting caps out at garbage, I'm surprised they've managed to keep it from running circularly down the side of the page and into the margin so far.
>when I could be using that space for porn or vidya.
Jesus Christ, why are these kind of people here.
I just really hate the fact that they try to translate everything, but then don't redraw anything. It looks awful.
Also, their shaping is poor most of the time.
So are their font choices. Shit, anon, you might be right.
>financing crunchy roll
as long as "the business" doesn't offer DRM-free formats to download it's still cancer
What the fuck? They serve these up?
My theory is that they hired on Laruffi or CGrascal to do the translations and typesetting and are now selling that to gullible retards. Between this and all the shitty source engine games on Steam it should be apparent that the viability of DRM riddled internet based crap like the two of them will never equal that of physical copies, even if that means having to import.
I think it has something to do with localization. Every series I've looked at only has English so far, though.
Here's an example.
From my (limited) experience, the translations themselves are pretty readable. The cleans are top-tier, obviously. It's just the terrible typesetting that makes it a pain to read.
It's /a/, sorry to say.
I still need to catch up to tons of old series, but since new manga series come out constantly I wonder how you even keep track of new ones and decide what's worth reading.
I think it was said that CR was only doing manga for one particular manga publishing company.
On Nyaa, but late, not every chapter etc. There's this Crunchymanga guy too, who started with CR rips but now releases random chapters of other series.
You can find links for other chapters in the archive too.
It's a bit of a pain tbh.
easiest of my life, etc.
Which series are you looking for?
If Crunchyroll shut down all the manga aggregators, all the better.
