/m/ here. Why do you hate mecha?
I love mecha.
I just don't really talk about it on /a/.
>I love mecha.
Protip You can.
Mechas that look like people are too inefficient
giant robots are kinda an illogical shape for something to fight in. So it triggers my autism
I generally have no idea
I mean I should love giant robots, they ARE giant robots after all
but I can't for the life of me love mech anime
It's because I watched too many of them as kid.
Robot anime has the best songs.
I like mecha but I can't be arsed to watch old shows, and a big part of /m/ seems to be /m/asturbating over shows that aired 30 years ago.
I do, but I usually come to /m/ to talk about them aside from ones currently airing.
I don't hate mecha, its just so saturated that any new show that comes out is generic in all aspects. Mecha fights, generally speaking, are a lot of flying around and lasers filling the screen. It's sensory overload, yet at the same time boring because none of those piddly lasers are going to make a dent, and nothing really matters until someone pulls out the big fuckoff laser.
Why would you be arsed to watch new shows then?
I watch both interchangeably. I couldn't give a damn if a show is old or new, as long as it's fun.
We don't all hate mecha. It's just the moebro trash who bash anything with action in it.
Why wouldn't I like mecha? It really only thrives in anime which I obviously love to watch.
A whole board can't 'hate' mecha as well.
What do I need to watch before I get most of the references in RGZ? I haven't read the manga so I stayed away from all the adaptions so far.
It just looks so childish and retarded by any real life standard.
>Mecha fights, generally speaking, are a lot of flying around and lasers filling the screen.
It wasn't always like this.
I want to bully her.
I do watch old shows sometimes. I just finished Irresponsible Captain Tylor. But I just find them slightly harder to get into. And honestly? I like to just watch the dumbest show airing, along with the other 15 next dumbest shows airing to fill my time. I like bad anime and I have shit taste. And nobody talks about mindless, average harem from the 80s. I don't often feel like watching the greats because I don't want to put the effort in to appreciate them properly.
Personally, I can't get over the shape of robots. Giant mechanical humans are just far too ineffective.
So I prefer to watch mecha shows where actual mechs switched to cute girls.
>no Project Z
>no Shin Great Mazinger
>no Big Fire OVA
Don't expect me to love a genre that likes to play with my heart like that.
Since when does /a/ hate mecha
I see mecha threads all the time, and mecha series get popular here often.
Unless you're just talking about OLD SHOWS.
Doesn't exist, what are you talking about.
>What do I need to watch before I get most of the references in RGZ?
Nothing. RGZ can be enjoyed without having watched those old 70 shows.
However, you can try the reboots if you want.
Shin Mazinger (2009)
Mazinkaiser SKL (2010)
Koutetsushin Jeeg (2007)
Getter Robo Armageddon (1998)
Shin Getter Robo vs Neo Getter Robo (2000)
New Getter Robo (2004)
I prefer magical girls looking like mecha. You should know that on /a/ cute girls are a huge deal.
I enjoy mecha as well, but /m/ahou shoujo is the best
Basically, this >>101521348>>101521244, OP. Cute girls are a big deal here.
>But I just find them slightly harder to get into.
Generic harem garbage is easy on the eyes, but they leave an eternal void that can only be filled by classic animation.
Symphogear S2 was so bad, though
There needs to be more
I don't hate the idea of mecha, just the typical execution. Robots don't need to be giant to be awesome.
>magic as an asspull to make whatever is happening make sense is fine
>little particles or super energy sources aren't
Anon. You can just say you want to look at little girls. No one would think less of you.
I absolutely love it. S3 soon, fellow symphobros.
/m/ is for fujoshits and robosexuals
It was perfect for livestream threads
So fucking what?
Do you even ep10? I really think it was an improvement over first season. And those threads were amazing.
>So fucking what?
You? Nothing at all.
Good luck faggot.
Dublas Mk 2 could wreck your ass.
>not enjoying cliffhanger of the week with dat ED intro
I liked S2, but I disagree. I rewatched S1 recently and I think it's a tad better.
There also needs to be decent mecha musume on top of /m/ahou shoujo.
You are the cancer.
You're on the same level as people who watched Fate Zero, then Watched F/SN
I personally couldn't stand the threads. S2 was just action and cliffhangers lazily strung together, particularly towards the end. If you think it was an improvement over the first season, you must have really low standards for narrative quality. S1 wasn't exactly solid gold writing but at least they tried a little.
That doesn't even make sense.
I don't, I just dislike how pretentious and circlejerky is /m/.
Because they aren't cute girls.
That's why I prefer things like Robot Girls Z when it comes to "mecha".
Super robots bore me to tears, "real" robots are pretty sweet.
Basically this. I appreciate how influential and intertwined mecha has been to anime but I really just don't find it all that interesting.
Nonsense. If anything the hate is directed toward edgy teen shounen type shows than anything. Mecha isn't really that discussed on /a/ because it's not as topical (and /a/ is a highly topical board because of anime being a seasonal thing).
They bore me to death when a lot of shitty politics is involved and serious characters, they are fun when there are tons of battles and charismatic characters.
I dunno, the "giant robots are cool" thing just never clicked with me. If I like mecha it's always IN SPITE OF the robots. All of Gainax's mecha works are great because of the setting and characters. I watched Gundam and Zeta for the politics and Char.
I like /m/ though, the pretentiousness and elitist culture appeals to me.
Robot Girls Z is good.
F/SN is shit anyway, I'm glad they're making a remake.
But I do especially mecha musume. /m/ doesn't seem to like them though.
MS Girls anime when?
It's really hard to get into /m/ without having watched a shitload of crappy old /m/ shows
/a/ doesn't have that same level of oldfagging
I don't disagree with that description of S2. I ended up enjoying it despite that though.
>or the politics and Char.
Getting into gundam only because of this and war.
I like mecha when the mecha are just treated as high tech battle machines that anyone properly trained can pilot. It's even cooler when they can fly like jets, even though that would obviously be inefficient. It's best when they don't have too human of a design to them.
I can't stand shit where the robots have faces, capes, moving mouths when people talk, do magic crap like have weapons pop into existence when the pilot yells loud enough, In other words, I don't like super robots (TTGL notwithstanding).
Mecha musume > Other mecha shit
I don't like long fight scenes.
Most of the shows they price aren't even that good, they are blinded by nostalgia.
See: uncanny valley
I don't hate it.
Real Robots> Power armoured suits>Super Robots
Don't be so tsundere, Anon-kun.
But I do. I don't talk about it here because HURR illogical shape
Real robot shows don't exist.
Sure is shit in here.
I really like mecha.
buuut I won't like every mecha show just because it's mecha.
It's the same for /a/. For example you can't become a wizard if you don't keep up with crappy shows like Naruto and Kill la kill.
>Expecting /a/ to have taste
I fucking love the 303.
Anime IS about cute girls and mecha why not have both.
Mechas are boring, I like ships more.
I like adventures and most mecha series doesn't have them because they are always in the middle of some shitty war.
This. But even though I like Patlabor mostly for the characters, I think the Ingram is fucking cool.
There's no such thing as real robot in anime, or any media for that matter.
Most Gundam variants for example are considered super robot by most serious fans.
And most serious fans don't even treat super and real as legit terms.
See. Fucking faggots, I enjoy Gundam show as much as /m/ but when it comes to MS Girls/ Mecha Musume they just have flip their shit. Those are just is as old as your gundam shows and even designed by Gundam designer. Fucking /m/ with their shit taste.
It honestly kinda is. You don't need to be edgy to know that.
Poor animation, little plot. If you watch it like you're watching MD Geist, then yeah you can get some enjoyment out of it, but deep in your heart, you know these works suck donkey balls.
And what makes those "serious fans" opinions more valid?
It really is a fantastic design. I'd totally watch a GiTS spin off about an armsuit company deployed in a far off place fighting a war that doesn't really matter.
I would watch Robot Girls Z if I knew what they were referencing for most of the time
Not sure why you would think what a bunch of elitist say matters to anyone.
Who doesn't love giant robots?
I really need to watch more, but I'm dealing with Kamen Rider and Precure right now.
Because serious fans have watched a lot of mecha and quickly realized how meaningless these terms are. Real robot and super robot were marketing terms. Stuff you would say to make your toy robot sound cool.
When Japan doesn't give a fuck about what these terms actually mean, you shouldn't give a fuck either.
But it kind of helps separate the genres. What do you think would be better terms?
I like mecha. Just not as much as /m/ likes mecha.
I watch RGZ with penis in my hand.
>Not watching Precure
>insulting MD Geist
It got tons better.
Heartcatch was pretty bitchin'
Fuck precure man. I'm never going to get through all this shit. Why is there so much? It is all the fucking same. Why do I like it so much?
There's no need to separate the mecha genre.
There's too much overlapping even in those supposedly "classic" super and real robots.
If you want terms to use, I suggest heroic/military robots.
Because Mazinger (and lot of other shows from that era) weren't anymore unrealistic than Gundam for example.
And even when you speak of military, Mazinger and Getter have bone gone in military robot territory at some point, while Gundam went full heroic type.
Mechs would be cooler if there was ntr and yuri romance
Says the manchild who like robots.
But anon, I love mecha
Actually, where are my genderswapped or futa robots?
I don't hate Mecha, but I just can't get into it because that'd probably require me watching shit like Gundam or Mazinger Z and I don't even fucking know how or where to get started on that so I'll just pass.
Same reason there's so much Kamen Rider
It prints money.
The only thing with giant robots I ever liked was the iron giant.
> Why do I like it so much?
Cute girls in dresses punching things
I can't take their toy-wands seriously
the mascots are also annoying as fuck
>the mascots are also annoying as fuck
Isn't that the case with every single precure series?
Do you know how to use Wikipedia? Is production order so hard?
Remakes exist. Mazinkaiser, Mazinkaiser SKL, Shin Mazinger.
I know what you mean. The art looks all stylish, and then they pull out this white CG Fisher Price looking plastic crap. It really reminds you exactly what you are watching.
Robots are for little kids and I'm too old for that.
If you're trying to apply modernist criticism to Symphogear, then you are the retards.
But anon, anime is for little kids.
everyone's a manchild here anon, chill
I think there should be a balance, giant mechas and benevolent mecha musume fighting big robots and unfriendly girls in mechanied suits.
It's only faintly related to the thread, but I was wondering if anyone has a screencap of that mod who lashes out against rec threads?
Because none will ever be as good as Gurren Lagann.
now that I think about it I liked the fact the girls were actually in close combat instead of magic bullshit that is prevalent in other shows, and I could get used to the mascots
I'll give it another shot
>Because none will ever be as good as Giant Robo The Animation: Chikyuu ga Seishi Suru Hi
Even Grumpy Jii-san agrees!
why would you do that?
I love mecha shows. I just wish there are more these days. MJP was a great surprise when it aired and I wish there are more with its quality. Regarding older shows, GaoGaiGar is always my favorite one. Something about the MotW formula slowly progressing into unique battles is just awesome and the overall quality of the series is top.
Next season isn't great regarding mecha but it has some promise. I hope Sidonia no Kishi is still good even though it's full CG. Daimidalar seems funny and it's hand drawn at least. And Captain Earth sounds like it will be better than Heroman but worse than Star Driver.
I've really wanted to watch some old mecha stuff lately, but there's a lot of episodes. I might wait until next season to watch some since I might not follow much next season. Actually, for some reason, I want to actually buy the mecha stuff.
It's not even 20 years old yet.
I haven't really watched much mecha. There are people that like mecha for the mecha itself. I can never see myself being one of those. I will happily watch shows that are good which are centrally about mecha or have mecha in them heavily though. Turn A is probably one of my favourite series overall mecha or not.
I like robots AND cute girls. But not like together as in a cute gundam girl. I never really get around to watching old shows because I have add and just never get around to watching my backlog. I never really watched gundam but I've been meaning to watch unicorn for awhile now.
Why do those last posts smell like pasta?
I must have about 14 or 15 30-50+ episode anime that I have seen between 12-20 episodes of then never got round to finishing.
I enjoy a lot of mecha series, but not enough of them to browse /m/.
I stuck my dick in some before posting.
So you wouldn't consider After War, Wing, or G Gundam to be old either? Because those aren't 20 years old. Older shows doesn't have to be fossils, not that there's anything bad about pre-90s anime.
But I do like mecha. Just not the gay, dumb, boring and retarded "real" types. God, machines are so lame.
But as long as the series is good I couldn't give less of a fuck what it's about. Votoms is one of my favourite shows, for example.
I started watching the Patlabour OVAs in an effort to get into mecha proper but it's really not what I expected. Mecha use is spaced widely apart and the main draw is the characters and while that was unexpected it's still really a fucking great show but I'd like to start something hotblooded and snappy too, can anyone throw me a bone?
Also what's that one with that Char guy in it, does it hold up?
>something hotblooded and snappy
Gunbuster. Just never, ever watch Diebuster.
>what's that one with that Char guy in it
...Uh, fucking Gundam?
>does it hold up?
Yes, but only the first one.
Diebuster is superior in every way though
>Diebuster is superior in every way though
>Gunbuster. Just never, ever watch Diebuster.
I forgot I watched those, Gunbuster was pretty awesome but Diebuster was a hot mess. What happened? Also pls spoonfeed me further.
>...Uh, fucking Gundam?
Worth asking since there's like 10 of them.
I don't know, maybe just read the Mazinger Z manga and what's translated of Great Mazinger to familiarize yourself with the characters and then watch Mazinkaiser.
>Worth asking since there's like 10 of them.
Again, just watch the first one.
I don't think this place hates Mecha.
I do however think this place hates things like TTGL, which makes no sense to me since TTGL was such a fucking thrill-ride.
Man, if all mech animes are like that, then sign me up, because my excitement went over the fucking moon watching TTGL. I need to watch more mech shows period though, I feel as if I dont watch enough.
I want to fuck Doublas.
We are supposed to be posting about anime not video games.
You just described Kannazuki no Miko.
I like Zeta and ZZ.
Because mecha has been overrun by fujoshibaits.
Where have you been for like the past 30 years?
/a/ does not hate TTGL, /a/ loves TTG but hates a lot of the people who like TTGL.
Wrong again. /a/ is not a hivemind. There are people who love ttgl and are obnoxious about it, who love ttgl and aren't obnoxious about it, who hate the fans but like the show, who hate the fans and the show, who etc etc.
>Because mecha has always been overrun by fujoshibaits.
Why do you care about certain fanbases again?
It is anime you dumbass.
You are extremely touchy.
Well no shit. I'm talking about in general. Of course everyone has their own opinion, that's so obvious it should go without saying. If you bring that up all the time you might as well never bother saying anything. It's like when people emphasize that something you said is "your opinion". No shit, that's why I said it.
And I'm saying in general there is a big divide, shithead.
Time for bed kid.
Why do you keep posting some shitty video game graphics gifs that look like they are from about 2002?
Because your small mind cannot understand that its not from a video game.
>piloting mechs with your dick
none of us hate mecha
but there are a faction of /a/ that believes "if you have your own board it doesn't belong here whether or not it's anime"
I'm not one of them though
There's that word again. Not everyone here is 80, grampa.
Only neo-/a/ faggots from /v/, tumblr and Facebook like that Kill la Kill.
>if you like what I dislike, you're probably a normalfag or a shitposter!
>telling others to grow up
You keep saying that but you never prove it.
You're just as bad as those guys who cry "moeshit" all the time.
Just ignore the edgemaster already, you dumb faggots.
God, it's like I'm really on /m/.
/a/ and /m/ are basically the same damn place.
The difference is one enjoys live action toku series.
But I don't, OP ;_; In fact, I really wish I could get more into it, but I'm really horrible at watching complete shows.
KlK is silly and absurd, that's why I find it enjoyable. The fanbase is somehow the worst I've seen in the entire past decade, though, so I avoid any threads about it like the plague. How the fuck did it attract so many people anyway? I mean, I doubt most of them even know what Trigger is, and liking girls who barely cover themselves in today's (normal) society seems to be harmful, so how come?
No, the difference is that /a/ (usually) makes fun of bait and retarded shitposting.
/m/ on the other hand takes EVERY SINGLE BAIT seriously as if their lives depended on it because of the slow nature of their board.
Also, fuck toku.
>/a/ and /m/ are basically the same damn place.
No, not really.
>/m/ on the other hand takes EVERY SINGLE BAIT seriously as if their lives depended on it because of the slow nature of their board.
and so does /a/
I'll only tell you why I hate mecha if you tell me why /m/ hates Ultraman because it's childish and praises Sentai and Kamen Rider.
besides the slow part
I used to go to /m/ a lot then it got flooded with bugmen and super autists.
/m/ actually watches stuff that isn't harem moeshit.
All tokushit is childish. News at eleven.
See they even have the same generalizing faggots.
I suffer through with the catalog. The hidden thread count is always at 15+ but what can you do.
I love Mecha. Used to hate it and only watch 'moe' shows, that changed when the newer cute shows became unwatchable.
Shame there's not that much good mecha coming out either, but there's plenty to dig into from the past.
I think mecha scares people off because it's very much an otaku-heavy genre. It's not as accessible as SOL or comedy, to get full enjoyment out of it you have to be really obsessed with the workings of the robots and the systems they use. I find that's what gets me excited about Mecha and hard-SF, there's so many facts and figures and pieces of data to sift through, it makes it more interesting than the same characters I've seen over and over again with different hairstyles arguing over who likes which boy the most. I like the fact that the bonus episodes of shows like Gunbuster took the time to explain the (pseudo)science within the show in the special episodes.
Gunbuster's science was fairly legitimate.
Any mecha with dreads?
Why do we have no doujins of this?
