ITT: LNs with good writing
Because I'm sick and tired of LNs with bullshit harem, otaku pandering fapservice, and shit-tier Gary Stu MCs.
>ITT: badly written stories with good writing
I read the first volume of Log Horizon and the writing was pretty bad
Log horizon is not a bastion of good writing.
Spice and Wolf
When is Mamare coming back.
Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria
Monogatari Series at times
SAO pls leave
>Nothing is always absolutely so
I think you mean his "revelation".
SAO is the greatest story of our lifetime.
> World building: the LN
It's like reading wikis on lore, nothing interesting ever happens. Character design is bland aswell.
>implying that's not the reason people like it.
> I'm sick and tired of LNs with bullshit harem, otaku pandering fapservice, and shit-tier Gary Stu MCs.
like i said: at times. Kizu was great, neko black was quite good. Yeah, the rest was harem and pandering to the max, but even that was quite entertaining.
None of those things you complained about have anything to do with the actual writing.
How is White/Koi/Otori/Kabuki pandering?
Pic not related. Right?
>nothing interesting ever happens
Yeah, sure bro.
>Character design is bland aswell.
I'll give you that but it's the characterization that's important. And that's what LH pulls off so well.
I watched 13 episodes, they ranged from mildly entertaining to flat out boring. If an anime can't gather my interest within roughly 6 hours, it's save to assume that it's boring for me.
Well we can say that LH is trying to be different to the LN's today by having minimal pandering, haivng harems not only to the main character and such. It just that the worldbuilding is slow(for some people) and lots of talking which could be a major turn-off especially those who base that something is happening through action scenes and such.
So TL;DR LH have a good story but the author doesn't know how to make the story engaging to the audience.
Agreed, LH should be more action packed like SAO or raunchy like GoT
Kyoukai Senjou No Horizon
No Bullshit Harems
Minimal Otaku Pandering (mostly history buffs and world building fanatics will love this shit)
And Aoi Toori is far from the Gary Stu Spectrum as can be.
It has its share of fanservice, but it doesn't focus on them, rather it tends to be the object of humor
Problem with LH is that its targeted to a small niche, namely - MMO players and fantasy readers.
Most popular LNs appeal to a broader spectrum but at the cost of it being bowdlerized until it fits casualfag demographics i.e. harem comedies, edgy plots, gary stu MCs - standard faire holliwood tripe.
It's not the lack of action that makes LH a sleeping aid. Hell, I like Monogatari.
Isn't that the MC who always goes around naked?
For half an entire season, yeah.
He also crossdresses (granted, Fukujun's characters tend to crossdress a lot)
So it's the lack of action and fanservice that turns you off. You'll appreciate it more once you're out of middle school, probably.
> It's not the lack of action that makes LH a sleeping aid.
> So it's the lack of action and fanservice that turns you off.
Funny how you're accusing me of not being out of middle school, when you can't even read.
How about reading the LN instead? You can waste less time to get to the good parts that way.
The scope gets much bigger after the "Akihabara arc". It currently brings up the culture shock that would happen if a bunch of powerful people with a more modern values suddenly appear in a medieval world.
I love LH, but I don't think it was well written.
But hey, at least it's better than haremshit, otaku pandering LNs.
Oh please the "otaku pandering" LNs have a tighter focus because of the narrow scope of the drama. It doesn't try to be more than what it claims to be, whereas LH is just some Tolkien copycat shit.
>I don't think it was well written.
What part do you think wasn't well written?
I'd say Mamare is doing a pretty damn good job so far.
This girl looks like a slut.
That's like saying that all forms of media may as well be casual, money-sink drivel that should be digested and discarded, rather than trying to achieve something worthy of the praise.
Realistically, most LN writers are just writing for the sake of profits.
Look at all the sporadic incest genre LNs that popped up just to bait otaku dick, and compare that to rare gems that doesn't even try the fanservice route and focuses on the story instead.
>achieve something worthy of the praise.
Poorly worded. I'm trying to convey something along the lines of "worthy enough to be someone's favorite reading material"
Well clearly your approach fucking sucks since 50 Shades of Grey has more favorites than Log Horizon
Game of Thrones has more favorites than 50 Shades of Grey.
The bitter truth here is that those sporadic incest LNs are more than likely to get anime adaptations than another Log H or Kino's Journey or KSnH.
Because studios put profits above art.
Depends on publisher.
MF Bunko J is basically the WSJ of LN publishers except replace battles with harem.
I bought very many authors thought of the concepts of what they write or at least they have been heavily modified by the editors.
Odd I thought Haruhi would be nominated here, from what I hear is the LN that gets a lot of flock while the anime is secondary.
/a/ never discusses about anything good.
meh, Spice and Wolf ended and all I hear is Waifus and S3 never, Orelmo ends the way everyone should has seen coming from just reading the title and those threads seems to never stop.
No one cares about Haruhi nowadays.
It's good. Buy it
>bullshit harem otaku pandering fapservice
>shit-tier Gary Stu MCs
>all this buzzwording
>all of this not anywhere else but on /a/
No wonder why /a/ is so shit these days, with such ridicilous stereotypical vision of things.
Nobody calls it that.
No one ever fucking reads this despite it being short and sweet.
>it's save to assume
Considering your and idiot. You're opinion isn't worth much.
>Tolkien copycat shit.
Tolkien wrote about MMOs? News to me.
This is either ironic or sarcastic. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt you picked the latter.
Lord of the Rings MMO
Look it up retard
Sorry about that buddy. I didn't know the corpse of Tolkien was still making MMOs.
Your new is showing.
What's sad is that the only fantasy novelist the poster only knows of is Tolkien.
No seriously, Fuck all those harem gary stu self insert, why the fuck all those so called translator on bakatsuki only translate those shit novel?
Well, if you go around and see their forums (and Animesuki while you're at it), you'll know the reason.
Ah, kind of answer my question.
This. Log Horizon sounds more like the Guardians of the Flame series by Rosenberg
>bunch of college students immersed in a fantasy game (pseudo-D&D) gets thrown into said world due to ancient magic.
Here, it's the first of many and the writing is superb. Hope you like edo-period detective fiction.
The writing is terrible in that.
Pro-tip: ALL LNs have terrible writing since they had to be translated to english and many nuances and inherent message in the original text is either lost or butchered.
Thats not an LN though and i wouldn't recommend to it anyone who is suicidal
Most weren't much better in japanese.
Pretty much, while most of shows like HACK, FF Tactics, and SAO focused on trying to get back to the real world, Log H and Guradians focused on trying to fix the world they're currently in while trying to find a way back
In Guardians, the college students decided to stay since, even if they went back to their original world, they probably won't be happier, and the world they're currently in may revert back into a lawless hellhole.
What's the Legend of Drizzt of LNs?
>wear all black because he's a night ranger
>dual wields magical scimitars
>has a dark and tragic past
>loves a noblebright maiden
>regularly fucks bitches
>has friends who are waaaay more interesting than him
>Genre(s):Adventure, Fantasy, Romance, Sci-fi, Shoujo, Supernatural
Don't badmouth Drizz't Do'urden like that.
At least he had a personality, rather than being a bland fantasy insert
To be fair, Mamare is still much better than most other LN writers.
Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria aka Hakomari
Very good LN with a yandere MC.
Reminder that you could just read actual Japanese literature.
Dazai Osamu is one of the few writers that managed to execute 3edgy5u pretty well.
>regularly fucks bitches
At least he didn't fuck anybody through his "origins" trilogy and the Icewind Dale trilogy.
MF Bunko J also has some all-girl cast LNs. Most of those (such as Girls Und Panzer) are adapted from other media, though.
Also there's Gun Princess.
It's classic Japanese literature, mate.
There's nothing light about it either.
Reminder that Sherlock Holmes books are considered LNs in Japan.
>There has been a persistent rumor that his final, successful suicide attempt was not a suicide at all, but that he was murdered by Tomie Yamazaki, who then killed herself after dumping his body in the canal.
He seems like a fun guy, he even died as edgy anime protagonist.
>Sherlock Holmes books
They're "light" in content, language and length, I see no reason not to consider them LNs, even though there's only a handful of novels and most of them are short stories.
Guin, Gosick and Slayers
>Thinking this isn't gonna tun into a harem shitfest starting vol 9
What makes you think that, anon?
Tsuki Tsuki! is a harem LN but the writing is epic. The MC is also an atypical MC.
Unbreakable Machine Doll is a much deeper LN than at first glance. The author knows how to be vague in the right way.
>Guardians of the Flame
Guess I know what I'll read now.
It's written on a level that even 8 year-olds can comprehend by it's very definition.
How can a light novel be well written?
What is "well-written" in the first place?
>Because I'm sick and tired of LNs with bullshit harem, otaku pandering fapservice, and shit-tier Gary Stu MCs.
You couldnt post more bait even if you tried, OP.
>97 posts late
Anything by Akiyama Mizuhito. Even the Japanese agree.
Actually, there's a translation in the works for his Iriya no Sora over at NanoDesu, although I don't know how it reads: http://irisorathetranslation.wordpress.com/
That's a very broad generalization. It's better to compare them to pulp novels.
Dude made a contract with the God of Comedy.
In exchange for crossdressing or going naked he gets a passive damage reduction bonus against females (hence why he can survive logically fatal attacks and suparhuman punches to the balls).
Everything you hate
