So much potential completely wasted in Sword Art Online.
Did they change writers and directors for this show every other episode? Because the tone and pacing is all over the map. Many plot lines and even some episodes can be eliminated entirely and the story would've reached the same conclusion.
What did you guys think of this trash?
That "potential" was squandered after the random harem bullshit.
There were way more issues before that, but yes that was shit too.
Bump. Please tell me more things to increase my hate for this show.
>Aside from Asuna, 1 Girl likes him in first part, but gives up in the same episode
>Second part, his sister has a huge crush on him.
>Neither girl ever had a chance, nor was it implied they did.
Is this what they call a harem?
Having more than 1 girl like the MC, is the only requirement for this genre?
You know what I mean. Really it's not the harem that makes me mad, more their totally flawless and perfect daughter that doesn't develop in any way shape or form. Actually, there is no character development in this period.

Generally, it's a harem if there's only one male character who is constantly surrounded by female characters, at least three of which are attracted to him, and there aren't any significant male characters outside the MC.
>Having more than 1 girl like the MC, is the only requirement for this genre?
Depending who you talk to on /a/, yes. On practically every other fan site, yes.
Frankly I would still consider SAO a harem because even if he entered a relationship with Asuna fairly quickly the author still feels the urge to introduce new females who instantly want his dick.
but muh first animeh experiench!
Yeah, I get that.
The author had 0 writing experience when he first wrote SAO, so his Character development was lacking.
I like to think that his more recent works are done much better, but that's just my opinion.
But that's not exactly the case.
Yes, he always has a girl, sometimes a side-character, around him, but I don't think there were any times when multiple girls "crowded around him", other than that joke scene in part two, with the faction leaders trying to hire him as a mercenary
The author loves suffering.
Hence why nearly every arc has some form of NTR, and/or heartbreak.
The Light Novel had the #1 sells of 2013 (and I'm pretty sure 2012, too)
Seems most people on /a/ prefer Accel World, though (maybe because it's less popular... Or maybe because the author learned to write by then)
It needed more focus on them actually playing the game. The second half of SAO arc had too much "Muh waifu"/"Muh daughteru".
Actually any focus on Yui was too much. Yui a shit.
>Yui a shit
Agreed. There was absolutely no point to her other than "OMG our first daughter uguu".
It could've been an amazing show if it completely stuck to the MMO rules. But they just shoehorned in whatever convenience they needed whenever they wanted.
Did they really have to wait until the first half was almost over to show the players' real bodies being moved to the hospital and such?
Why is it that when Kirito wakes up in the hospital, he looks all frail and his hair has completely grown out, but when we see Asuna in the hospital for the first time, absolutely nothing has phased her whatsoever?
>show the players' real bodies being moved to the hospital
But they didn't show that at all...?
They merely had a flashback, to when people were disconnecting, likely because they were being moved to a hospital.
Anyways, I think it would have been better if SAO was an OVA anime that followed the Progressive novels, instead. At least that way everyone gets their mechanics and such.
Episode 2 was from that novel (but it was butchered and twisted...)
I say OVAs, only because Progressive isn't complete.
>actually playing the game
THIS. Why was it so hard for them to concentrate on playing the game? You want romance hijkins, ok, throw them as secondary. I'm seriously mad they skiped so many floors and instead gave us lucid dreams of 13yo living with his perfect girl.
I'm kind of faggot who wouldn't even care much about Kirito being Gary Stu and soloing most things as long as animation and music would be good. Yes, my battle shonen standards are low.
Personally I think SAO is harem. All girls still want his D, even after learning he is already taken. For most of them this is pretty much their whole character. Smile, act cute, get rescued, fall in love, craw the D.
Her hair was pretty nice too for having been in a helmet for over two years.
You can only do so much with awful source material
But the core concept is excellent. It's more frustrating to see a good idea ruined than a generic bad idea.
Thought it was trash
No, I hate it because I don't want to self insert as accel world MC.
SAO was originally written as a romance, with action. Not an Action Adventure with Romance.
The later side-stories (Everything between episode 1 and 8, and the Yui Episodes) were written later, I'm guessing to expand the genres SAO touches.
>All girls still want his D,
>Lisbeth (Gives up)
And no one else wanted his dick. There was a bit of a gag at the end of the second part, where apparently Silica liked him, but I imagine that's all it was. A gag.
That elf king cockrider probably "took care" of her. Facial creams and the like.
The skin and everything can probably be explained with "Money", given she's rich.
Her hair? Not so much. I guess just artist preference?
Ways to improve it:
Focus on the characters clearing floors and advancing them game instead of side quests.
Kirito gets over his faggot solo player phase quicker
He and Klein become bros and start their own guild to which they recruit the rest of the main cast (Asuna, Silica, Liz, etc)
Make Lizbeth a legitimate and only rival instead of letting Asuna win by default (she still loses)
Actually build up to the reveal that Heathcliff is the mastermind. (Also he's a fucking lunatic murderer. Kirito shouldn't end up respecting him)
Suguha only falls in love with Kirito in game and is sickened when she figures out it's her brother.
2 years of glopping noises
>I don't want to self insert as accel world MC.
That's exactly why AW is better and why you are a faggot.
Just shift the focus from Kirito, he can go sulk in the fucking woods alone.
>Suguha only falls in love with Kirito in game and is sickened when she figures out it's her brother.
Also he chooses a new name and his new avatar doesn't look completely like him. Honestly how does she not know his game handle? Wasn't he famous too?
I don't want to be a fat person.
He didn't tell anyone his in-game name, though I believe Asuna's parents knew it because they were taking care of the SAO servers.
Also, he wasn't suppose to look like his real self. Spriggans are also supposed to be much darker, and i believe grayer.
Anime studio doesn't want to "confuse their audience," similar to how they made GGO Kirito look like Real world Kirito, with long hair.
Go outside then.
>Season 2, never.
Also his avatar was described differently than it was illustrated and animated.
Not even close. But ok.
But it's amusing the author released 2 side-stories just recently titled "16.6" and "16.7". Clearly the Author hasn't forgotten.
Seriously. The first episode I've seen, haven't read novel yet by that time, made me cum buckets.
I wish I stopped at the first two episodes.
>not even close
>volume 1 covers chapters 1-25
What the fuick are you on?
2 YEARS WORTH OF SEMEN MADE A GLOPPING SOUND
16.5 was a story the author posted on his site, back in 2003 or or so.
It's not in the books.
Yes, because this was originally a web novel.
It was excluded out of paper reprint, but it's part of the volume. Stop confusing people.
I know. But the first arc wasn't "Volume 1". It was simply "SAO1".
I guess Lisbeth sleeping mostly naked, in the same sleeping bag as Kirito was excluded.
I guess Asuna killing Kuradeel without hesitation was excluded.
Sinon winning the BoB was excluded.
I guess Ronye & Tiese's rape was excluded.
Eugeo being ripped in half will be excluded. (maybe)
The Web Novel has a different timeline from the published version.
Though, if you wish to say that every story the author had on his site was canon, I guess we could include "The Lord's Venus Fly Trap" story, with Kirito fucking Sakuya and Alicia Rue.
Or "Asuna Rape", with Asuna being raped by the Slugs in ALO.
Constant sex would be pretty realistic for a virtual MMO. All of the fun, none of the drawbacks.
>no pvp in towns
people would be fucking/wanking all over every town
Nevermind with that last part. I just noticed THOSE side-stories were marked as being given by other people. However, he doesn't mark names or anything for whoever wrote them...
Though, it's amusing he ended up drawing an image to go with one of the stories.
Eitherway, everything above that last line, still stands.
Well, there's the Ethic Code stuff.
And most players didn't even know you could have sex in SAO. Kirito spent 2 years without knowing he could have sex, by disabling the Ethics Code.
That's also complete bullshit. Realistic human beings would have scanned every aspect of their menus, especially a seasoned gamer like Kirito.
I suppose it was really well hidden.
It was likely in some section that a player like Kirito, who's main interest is in combat, wouldn't have noticed for quite a while.
Who knows, though...
I dunno, in the event you get trapped in an MMO you would be more likely to check fucking everything.
Argo-sama Best Girl
The only thing good about this is the concept. It's like the studio was so lazy they just translated the LN to animation without even attempting to make it flow correctly.
Granted I've only seen up to about episode 10 or 11. I can never make it any further. It's so basic and underdeveloped overall I can't convince myself to watch it to completion.
>without even attempting to make it flow correctly
Eh... They didn't even do most things right. All of Episode 2 was butchered, and they didn't include parts that, I think, would have hinted at some kind of character development.
Also fuck the MC, he's exactly the type of edgemaster I'd expect to be playing a game like this. I couldn't tell whether I was supposed to view him as "cool" or a dweeb who's trying to hard. He was incredibly off putting. It felt like he was meant to have a more developed personality but the writers couldn't decide whether to do that or make him a gary stu.
>Many plot lines and even some episodes can be eliminated entirely and the story would've reached the same conclusion.
Well no shit.
That's what happens when you adapt later chapters of the LN but arrange them in the actual timeline.
>SAO Progressive will never be animated
>SAO Progressive will never be translated
That's what happens if the series is too popular in the west.
What, exactly? Extra material doesn't get translated?
Well, the translator for the Rondo story, from SAOP, had been translating for over a year by the time YenPress liscened the book.
And he was barley even half way (not even)
In the meantime, you can enjoy SAO's episode 2.
Man, he wasn't even that edgy. Haseo was a million times more edgy than Kirito was.
The butchered version of Aria In the Starless Night?
No thank you.
I'm just glad we have the Progressive Manga.
To put this into context, the last update the translator made was in July, and it was at 18/40 (web version of Rondo)
His update before that was in March.
Even if Yen Press didn't liscence, we would never get a proper translation in our life-time, because no one seems to want to translate it.
Tap isn't interested in Progressive apparently.
