It's time for the weekly Yowamushi Pedal hype thread!
This week: the inter-highs are getting closer, will Onoda make it through the training camp? And will the strength of the first-year riders overcome the teamwork of the second years?
Link to the manga, Volume 11 was released a couple days ago:
I won't spoil anything, but anyone else really enjoying the manga lately? The story really picks up in the interhigh race where the riders can really show off their strengths.
They're just really close teammates.
It's alright as long as wheels aren't touching.
Are they going to manage to finish the interhigh in the anime? I mean, it took over 15 volumes
I don't see why not, isn't the anime supposed to have 39 episodes?
So will he ever speak?
He did in the last episode.
Yeah but they haven't even reached there yet, so we're going to have an episode and a bit per volume, that seems a bit rushed, though it might be doable since half the pages were people yelling in two-page spreads
I read volume 11 and I'm confused: why must they have aclimber leading htem and can't let the guy just go ahead? is it that "bicycle train" thing?
You got it, the other guys on the team aren't so fast when climbing so they put someone suited to it at the front and keep the team together that way.
I was surprised though that they didn't have Kinjou or Imaizumi pull the team and let Makishima go ahead to try and score points. I suppose it's all about saving strength for later in the race... but still, those two are strong all-around riders and I don't see why they need both of them to save their strength for the finish of the first day. Oh well, I suppose things will be explained later.
Thanks. I assumed they didn't have one of the others replace makishima to save them for when they are on a flat terrace again, spcecially since it's pointless to have Makishima score points if they don't finish in a good position.
>The story really picks up in the interhigh race where the riders can really show off their strengths.
>Volume 11 was released a couple days ago
Jesus christ don't tell me it takes 11 volumes for the interhigh to happen. Keep it light on the spoilers if possible, I just want to know if the pacing takes a major turn and starts really drawing shit out.
But they touched anon.
No, the pacing is slooooow. The interhigh is apparently very, very long in the manga, it goes through volume 26
I hope it sells enough to get more cours then.
The interhigh that's a shit ton of volumes anon, but at leats i didn't mind, and i usually do. Mainly it's because loads of pages are wasted in reaction images and double spreads and few talking so you can speedread through all the volumes quickly and it doesn't feel that long
holy crap... Well that's a bummer. Oh well maybe the anime will fix the pacing a bit. Mondays are still my favorite time of the week thanks to Yowamushi Pedal so I guess I'll just have faith that it stays interesting and fun.
When would it be ideal to have manga discussion? Is it allowed here too or would you guys prefer not to?
I don't see why not, pretty sure most folks watching the anime will have gotten caught up on the manga by this point anyways.
Fuck this pace goddammit. Just saw ep 17 and they didn't even finish.
It finishes in 27
No screencaps on 2chan again, although someone posted some for the stage play ad that aired during the commercial break
Now that is slightly worrying. I was hoping it'd end the episode with that. So now what, maybe 2 or 3 episodes before they start the interhigh?
I don't recall what happened in the manga between the training camp and the interhighs to be honest... but there shouldn't be that much material to cover since the anime has already included some material in the manga where some of the other teams are introduced.
Naruko's actor almost looks like a girl
Someone on 2chan called it the sweaty musical
It's so cringe inducing. Who the hell thought this was a good idea?
This really grinds my gears, but I guess it can't be helped.
Anime/manga really is a great format for depicting a bicycle race. Imagine how insanely expensive it would be to produce a good TV series or movie version of this series.
There were some flashbacks, Inter High starts around chapter 75ish and we just finished chapter 57 in todays episode.
Bare in mind they seem to be fast forwarding introductions of other schools which was skipped in the manga and then done on the fly much like Jay and silent bob's.
Also no inter-high till the flash-back captain chapters are done.
There will probably be an episode for the flashback with Kinjou and Fukutomi, they might be able to split it into two with the scene of the characters going to Makishima's house.
>Imagine how insanely expensive it would be to produce a good TV series or movie
Especially when some of the cyclists ride $7000-14k road racers
We're already somewhere in volume 7 or 8 though
I guess they have been pulling the itroductions of the others schools forward though so they can skip through later volumes really quickly.
My question is: OST when?
Yep, and as has been said, the race volumes (as far as they've been translated anyways) are pretty light on text, they shouldn't be too hard to fit into episodes at a faster rate.
I wonder how soon the anime is going to pass the manga translation.
>I missed 3 translated volumes
I always have a MU tab open.
It seems like the translators are releasing at a faster pace, volume 11 came out the other day from one of them.
This is basically the counterpart of RKB, just instead of lolis and basketball it is shotas and biking, right?
The faster translator uses mediafire, that's probably why
For those who read vol 11:
What did you think about Makishima's choice in sticking with his team instead of racing Toudou?
How the fuck did Onoda pass all those people?
There's barely any shota characters. It's basically just Onoda and possibly Naruko who count.
It's just a sports shounen.
Jesus Christ, you are a retard.
Not really, I just thought that by MU they meant the other translator's Mega folder because you can follow people's accounts on there.
I think shotas have an age requirement too so technically these guys are probably too old to be considered shota characters.
There is always Inazuma Eleven though.
Makishima's keeping his ego in check (until Onoda catches up) for the sake of the team, that makes him one of the more admirable characters in the story.
Onoda is just ridiculously overpowered with plothack legs, but that's nothing new.
>How the fuck did Onoda pass all those people?
How did even get back on the road from the top of the gutter when he reached Midosouji, it wasn't connected to it
Bunny hop. Given his ability to instantly gain skills I don't see why not.
Yeah, I don't think it showed anything like it going into the road again either.
Hopping ONE curb is smalltime:
It's kind of hard to dislike any characters in this series when they get along so well.
Looks like CR changed the simulcast time today so HS ripper missed it because it's still set at the previous schedule.
CR needs to get their shit together.
Actually, CR changed it back to the original schedule when the simulcast started which is 11:00 PST (about 15 minutes ago).
I wonder why they changed it to 12:25 PST on January.
Maybe the subber had issues that month?
Well I'm glad it's back to normal.
Why are the HS bots not made to just autoupdate if not all the time then at least a couples of hours before and after the approximately time of release.
About an hour to go until the episode... longest wait of the week for me.
It was already out on CR about 35 minutes ago.
Yes, but then I'd have to stream it.
I just finished watching it on some shitty stream site, impatience got the best of me. It's another really good episode.
To be fair, a lot of people are stuck on that crowd which he only managed to pass by taking a 'detour'
But yes, he does have MC plot powered speed
What competitions are there for them after the inter-high?
I disliked the weird one Imaizumi has a grudge against. but then i saw the raws
any minute now....
HS being slow again
>waiting for HS
I caved in and watched in a sucky stream.
Well damn, I think this will drag on for the whole or most of the next episode my guess is that they'll start the interhigh arc in 5 episodes or so
I want to protect that smile.
There are other groups who sub this?
I fucking wish.
We all use HS. I thought that guy was implying he watched it on Crunchyroll.
Midosouji's an obnoxious shit but over time most of the characters learn to just ignore him or attempt to interact with him normally. He's like a kid with an autism spectrum disorder that can't control himself.
They can probably make it extend to episodes, kind of like the manga. Next ep will probably end with Perm giving Onoda the shoes.
Why is he so perfect?
Dead subs, dead thread
Where are they man? I can't take it anymore!
Naruko races in one by himself and it turns out Midosuji is also participating
The team has one with their new member lineup for practice, then an actual race where they meet a new member of Hakogaku's main team
They have another freshman race with the newbies
Hakogaku also has a practice race with their new lineup
>[HorribleSubs] Yowamushi Pedal - 17 [480p].mkv
Finally! Bout fucking time.
>linking the actual download link so I don't have to visit nyaa.
You fucking Pedalbro. I love you, /a/non. You've done the god's work.
I won't tell if you won't
Not downloaded it yet, but I'll leave it seeding for those of you with slow internet. I used to have impossibley slow internet so I appreciated it massively
Onoda is plothax
Just the way I like it.
>not being XDCC mustard race
I pity you.
I want to watch Naruko and Onoda ride a tandem dildo bike.
Always feels like it ends too early.
This happened a few episodes ago. What's the connection between their names?
Sakamichi means slope and Sangaku means mountain.
It was a rare case where a translator's note was actually needed.
Sakamichi means slope and Sangaku means mountain
look at it this way, /a/non. It's three cour!
Inb4 next episodes ends and they still haven't gotten off namek.
Huh so i guess the next big competition is the next interhigh?
What is the equivalent of an interhigh outside of Japan. I only hear it in sports animu.
You're going to end the episode THERE?
Fucking cliffhanger ending. Come on the earlier episodes made sure not to pull this shit. wtf?
Interhighs propbably don't really exist. Or at least not as seriously as they appear in sports manga.
It's just a generic name for a tournament in every series ever.
Woops didn't mean to reply to anyone.
How can a manga be so slow and yet so entertaining?
What sorcery is this?
Love hime magic.
I was really disappointed with this. There's less than 100 meters left right? They set up for an intense climactic ending, and then just dropped it right at the end. Now next episode is probably going to drag out the end of the race for the entire first half of the episode in an attempt to rebuild what they just destroyed.
I want to get off Kinjo's wild ride.
dunno. In comparison it's pretty quick.
>Ending the episode there.
This bike has no breaks.
>inb4 3/4 of the episode is a recap
And then we move to Inter High.
Maybe I'm missing something but why is Naruko and Imaizumi talking about Onoda going to the interhigh? He's last place in laps by a fair margin, how would beating the second years before the no pass help anything?
The training camp isn't even over after Aoyagi and Teshima lose. Is it too much to hope that they can wrap it up in one episode after next week?
>episode 18 starts
>KOI NO ABC
I don't have any OverDrive pics, so...
after Aoyagi and Teshima lose.
I fucking knew it
The rest of the training camp was like a 10 page montage in the manga
Let me put it like this.
One year without the 3 main characters. How does that sound to you? And it's in-universe year.
Also it would mean them losing the cool senpais.
It kind of reminds me of all-star team competitions from little league but instead of a bunch of kids in one region being picked for a team it's all the schools in the region going against each other to get the spot.
I printscreened this last episode. Thought it was quite witty along with the name
But it does. And most of the sport you see in manga, even other than baseball, do get live-coverage at bigger events. In Japan high school level is a big thing, since no one really does sports after that.
And to make it worse it's not really a cliffhanger. It wasn't even a cliffhanger in the manga.
>They left in a shit frame in the tv airing let's make a post about it on the internet
For a sports anime the quality is 8/10 stop whining like the little bitch that you are.
>two shit eaters lose out to 2 top tier athletes which have devastated them on pretty much any other race they've had.
Yeah, that's like a surprise and shit. See how surprised I am.
As for Onoda he's still 70km behind if not more.
Have some situational awareness, tard.
>two shit eaters
No fuck you.
I can't wait for the OST to come out, some of the BGM, like the track at this point is pretty good.
I want to put it on my MP3 player and listen to it on a ride
In the US some high school sports championships are aired on tv, too.
Apparently that live event with the author was insightful. He was talking about future plans for his characters and the series. Too bad no one bothered to rip it from that nico livestream.
As frustrating as the pacing is, I'm still really enjoying this show. The technical quality of the show is remarkably high, especially the animation of the riders - the motion of a person riding a bicycle is not an easy thing to capture, but they're doing a great job. The shot where all five riders come around the corner at the end of the episode is pretty impressive if you look at it frame by frame.
Only thing I wish would happen is for somebody to tell Onoda that he needs to look at the road, putting your head down and closing your eyes while riding is just asking for pain.
Asking for pain is leaning forward on the handlebars and pretending to be a ship's mermaid. Looking at the ground with your eyes closed is merely unwise.
I never liked sports anime since they drag out so much, but goddamn, this one really made my heart racing everytime.
There are some notes on it floating around I've seen. I don't remember it all but some of the things were about Tadakoro helping with his parents bakery, Izumida really likes gardening, Midousuji was originally not going to be terrifying, and that's about all I can remember. There was a lot about almost all the characters
Is that a popularity ranking?
>Asking for pain is leaning forward on the handlebars and pretending to be a ship's mermaid.
Nah, that's just getting 'aero'
That's more info on top of the character profiles of the official fanbook. Translations never.
>Midousuji was originally not going to be terrifying
I don't think so, it think it's the author's comments for each character?
How does one pedal in such a position?
How are his balls not being crushed?
I'm talking when you lean your thighs on the handlebars and shape yourself like jesus while you try to cool off for a second. It's more of a trick than anything else.
That kind of position is only used when descending. If a hill is big enough, it can actually be counter-productive to pedal instead of just coasting (at 50+ mph) in an aero tuck.
There's some facts from the fanbook on the really small Yowamushi Pedal wiki, I remember seeing Izumida's on there.
Teshima likes singing karaoke and won an abacus competition
>putting your head down and closing your eyes while riding is just asking for pain.
He's not closing his eyes.
As for whether it's unsafe, well in a climb not really and cyclist get a lot of neck strain to begin with so it's not unheard off for them to look down.
Now don't get me wrong it's definitely better to look forward but it's also realistic for a novice to look down. He's not afraid of people in front of him falling down and other sudden obstacles appearing, he mostly road slowly on the sidewalk before so, yeah there's that.
So that's what Midosuji did here?
That's a pretty good way of trimming your ass hair.
But if we're gonna be realistic if you do that shit on a real bike you'll probably flip it over. There are techniques like that for mountain biking but those involve jumping off ledges.
That and loaded down the back wheel.
No, watch again, he keeps his eyes closed for considerable periods of time, this episode and past episodes too.
For a couple of seconds. That's nothing much.
Those parts with the looking down are over dramatized enough so I don't need to rewatch them.
The simplest explanations in is - the animation studio either misinterpreted the scene or they chose to do it for dramatic effect - something they've done throughout the series.
Either way stop being an autistic.
No, that's just a Midosuji exaggeration of throwing your bike forward in the last meters to make your bike tire cross the finish line first.
The best part of the manga is when it goes batshit insane.
Extreme bike riding it is.
And then it gets supernatural.
There's only one manga spoiler I really want:
Does Onoda eventually buy his own bike? What does he buy?
what the fuck
One day I fear I will have nightmares of people peeling of their skin to show Midosuji and then he will chase me on his bike for all eternity.
Raws have him getting a BMC
I have a copy of that, shame I'm short a computer. Each character has their own page with their personal information, I'm not sure if the wiki has everything on the lists translate. The book is really small like a manga though, I was expecting it to be bigger like some other fanbooks.
Thanks based spoiler anon.
Is that a real brand or did they alter the name?
>can't do a simple google search
BD 4 cover
Well I guess that answered my question
I wonder why some brands can get name dropped but others can't, like Scott and Pinarello.
Maki's stealing all the covers.
Hm, editing apps on my phone aren't too shabby. I might be able to take some better photos and fix them up.
>tfw no rich /fa/ senpai to hang out and look at gravure with
I think that's called 'grooming' or at least that's what the police told me when I did it.
All that tension and hype, it left me out of breath, I don't want anyone to lose.
He isn't your typical basement dweller otaku, he does sports and have friends, stop projecting.
Anyone interested in Spoon scans?
I can zip and upload it.
Untill I see something other than purely hetero bromances and Petanko Hime Chansu, I can't believe it.
Sure, I'm sure they'll look better than anything I'm posting
Hey man, I appreciate what you're doing.
I just realized that you would probably be faster walking to the goal than those guys.
They took like 20 minutes to ride less than a kilometer.
Wait for what is to come. Watching the tour de france will be faster.
Better than current HxH
>20 min episode
>only 3 mins passed by
If the first years win the race they go to Interhigh but they gotta finish there laps. so if the first years win they go then all Onoda has to do is finish his laps
>tfw in a sports manga/anime SHIT GETS ABSOLUTELY FUCKING REAL
THIS IS WHY SPORTS ANIME IS WHY I LIVE
Just wait until they get into the first day of the Inter-high.
Are there any good scans of those watercolor illustrations yet?
OH MY GOD WHY, how can this show be so unnerving and captivating. I'm hooked each episode and just want more... argh why wont next week come any sooner..
For it's slow pace, it sure is intense.
Goddamn those ugly yellow pants.
If I were in charge of uniform design I would make them ugly too.
Especially if this creepy foreigner was hanging around all the athletic boys
Its definite time for pedalling.
They coulda done goldsprints. Bonus if they were on rollers instead of trainers.
Manga, anime or both?
I've already started reading the manga
i thought they were just changing the names in the anime but the manga had all the real names?
so... if he needs the extra speed why not shift to the smallest rear gear? it's there for a reason after all.
This guy is featured in the latest translated volume.
