What series got fucked over the most by shitty groups edition
But GTO has several physical English releases. Why should good scanners waste their time on it?
Said releases got scanned, by the way
It was just the first that came to mind, honestly. I remember going back a few years to re-read the series only to see the scans were complete garbage.
To all the people saying this was a bad idea, we still had stuff to discuss.
Is it the censored translation with Nerv emblems instead of swastikas/buddhist manji?
I think Translator Fag/AnonBlack said that she didn't really need a cleaner for Koe no Katachi. I offered to TS for her and she said she'll clean it.
Daily reminder that if your cleans don't have an ice cream cone in them, you're doing it wrong.
Popular shounen/shoujo stuff and the huge array of watermark scanners.
Glorious. Although I can understand the impulse of wanting to do so. Those speed line redraws are a bitch.
Does anyone have a list of scanlators that are based off of /a/? I know a few, but not all.
Seems like ones that came out of /a/ have higher standards for releasing things.
I've wasted my life
I've heard so many horror stories about popular shoujo groups and their series. Any one know how they compare to popular shounen?
GTO was amazing.
I can't fathom how one man can be so based.
I've seen more shitty speed scan groups come out of /a/, it seems.
Only ones I know of are PrettyAnon, MonsterMusume, and /a/non scans or whatever it was.
I started trying to read this because I liked Kimi no Iru Machi, but then I realized I actually don't like knim or Seo Kouji, so it wasn't a huge loss. But yeah, at a certain point a new group took them and they were shit.
It's much much worse. I can remember groups forcing 20 posts on their forums before you could download shit. My single post was, 'I'm 30 and have no desire to gossip with a bunch of teenage girls; let me download your manga please.' Also releasing to PDFs because they can't into computers.
Although anymore most of those groups get their shit ripped to mangatraders or batoto or someplace pretty fast, but I think there are still a few out there.
MonsterMusume and PrettyAnon are basically the same, though. TF/AB does all the scans/TL, and the TS for MM is done by one of PA's guys now.
Pretty sure only the cleaning is done by another anon.
I thought there was some shounen group.
To all those wanting to be a cleaner of typesetter - seriously just pop into your favorite scan group and ask how to do so. Most groups will have at least a couple members willing to take the time to show you the ropes.
Someone posted some pretty good tutorials in the other thread, too.
Typesetting is the easiest to learn, really. Just do it right.
Hox is basically one of us. I've seen him pick up series in /a/ threads.
Oh, I know that. Was just trying to buffer my list. I think the only reason #monstermusume exists so not to flood the main prettyanon channel.
Yeah, I might look though TF's site and repost those. Good stuff all around.
Font lists are a blessing. I have a billion fonts downloaded, but I'll be damned if I can find a couple good ones in there.
Once, Hox responded to a post I made about scanlation, and I just about jizzed in my pants.
Once, I told Hox he had shit taste and I didn't get a response ;_;
I like when scanlators go the extra mile. You can really fell that there's effort being put into it.
I mean, just look at that handwritten text.
It doesn't take long to do and it's only as hard as you want it to be. Quite a few groups have scripts but few cleaners/type setters so things are slow. If you want faster releases of manga like Tsugumomo then please join up and help.
Hox has been at the top of my list of bro tier scanslators since he picked up the last volumes of Noramimi.
I don't think that's handwritten. I just think the TS'er decided to warp each line, which still takes a long time.
I love it when groups release spreads that are redrawn and aren't typeset.
Typesetting can honestly be really fun and rewarding when you get to do stuff like that.
I used to do cleaning a long time ago, but I'm too much of a hard ass for it. I have a real stick up my ass for over leveling and smoothing filters; can't stand the shit.
I wonder if the typesetter person did this or if the page was like this in the original.
Maybe just do tankobon raws, then? Those don't usually require much leveling and should never had filters used on them regardless.
Having seen many raws in my time, it was probably the typesetter.
I'm pretty sure the typesetter did that. It wouldn't take a super long time to TS if you just had a long list of words.
Skilled redrawers need more appreciation.
they up on bakaBT?
Oh most definitely. I used to do some minor redraws, but those crazy double page spreads make me cry to look at.
The typesetter must have put a lot of time and love into these then, it looks like it would take a lot of time and effort.
>it, I became a genius
>in dating sims...and
Punctuation goes at the end of a line, not in the middle.
6/10 try again.
That's what I thought at first too, but there are so many letters with each of them unique compared to the others that I didn't keep thinking that for long.
>>Why should good scanners waste their time on it?
Because they're early Tokyopop releases and back then they were know for the amateurish quality of their releases.
Sometimes they would white-out the sound effects they didn't translate leaving white blotches on the background screentones, shit like that.
I'm still pissed over what they did to the Battle Royale manga, when they hired a US comic book writer (Keith Giffen, who's done some good stuff) to re-write the dialogue and make changes in the plot. I've been hoping for years that some group would give it a proper translation.
>make changes to the plot
What changes were made?
Just grabbing these from a TS thread. That was more about text shape than line correctness.
Oh yeah, the shape's good. Don't get me wrong.
I usually don't use the side - I more often use the top toolbar.
They're actually from RedHawk's TS guide.
Yes, Yes. I misspoke.
This is one of the best guides out there.
JJBA part 4 got duwang'ed. Hard. Pic related.
Good ol' GTO
Post that 'even a rat in the toilet' one if you have it.
He made it into a reality TV show with hidden cameras. He must not have watched the movie or read the novel, because that changed introduced plot holes that would show up later in the series.
He also "punched up" the dialogue by adding puns and one-liners. There was an interview he did where he talked about how he would give the psycho girl one-liners when she killed people because the original translation he was given to rewrite sounded "too boring" and he wanted it to sound "bad ass."
You need a font viewer, anon.
I wish minus wasn't the social shit that it is right now. They had the right idea and then proceeded to throw it away to become an Instagram clone. I also miss 20MB pngs on tinypic ;_;
Warping text is easy and fun, especially when you overlay different fonts over each other for a different effect.
Any raw providers around that would be willing to buy and scan some volumes?
I wish Dowman Sayman's oneshots were being translated, but no one wants to translate them.
Haven't seen one in a while.
Here's a nice tune to get things started.
OIuYuIO *QW TIO SGH
I haven't read the novel or seen the movies but how was it in the novel? I also didn't notice the plotholes it caused.
I think you wanted to start a thread, not post in on anon-kun.
Little Busters EX
I've seen the raws of those pages. The English scans actually look better, due to having less random white spaces
>Yeah, unfortunately, and in fact our poor translator has also been doing the typesetting on that.
>Always plenty of people to complain about how slow things are, but strangely few that are willing to work. As with anything in life, nothing special about scanlation in that.
I actually prefer to do the typesetting while translating. At least the rough typeset. Since I'm already reading the page, and have to type out the text at least once as it is, I may as well be doing it into the word bubbles.
I feel you as a translator.
Though I do like to do a script first, then typeset, since I often go back and change bubbles to reflect the bubbles that come after.
It's nice being able to change your script on the fly when you realize a different word would make the bubble look better.
How about Jabberwocky?
That's exactly it. By typing it into the bubbles, I'm aware of the flow immediately, and can make adjustments to the dialogue to fit the bubble better, or flow well across the entire page.
In both the novel and the movie, the fact
that the collars the students wore had hidden microphones was a major plot point. Shinji's group discovered that they were being listened to and would plot their attack on the BR Program proctors in silence in order to not be discovered. If the whole island had hidden cameras, then that whole sequence wouldn't work.
Also, the BR Program as a reality tv show? That's some uncreative, cliche bullshit.
I read a couple of pages of the first volume and when I read that it was a reality tv show, I stopped reading in disgust.
Ahh alright, I just rolled with the manga and still had fun with it. I need to get my hands on the novel and read it as I'm sure it's best experienced with that.
I want to kick the shit out of the editor that thought this was okay.
Old thread's gone, right? So I can post these.
JJBA 4 was where Duwang came from.
Its like everybody but one guy speaks english and they just roll with it.
So-- he only translated half the bubbles? And the others he couldn't understand so he left them?
Better then whiting it out. I've seen people do that: less then half the text translated and the rest removed.
Sometimes I find myself adjusting repeatedly and taking a while to get to release. In contrast, sending off a script forces me to make decisions.
Looking at more from that group for that series, 95% of it seems normal but then there'll be one or two random bubbles not done or with a (??). Guess it's the translator's fault. And pretty bad page quality.
Something from the old thread that just died
I started reading gunslinger girl by downloading all the chapters from mangatraders, they tend to be legit.
Holy fuck, scanlation switched around from several groups, some of them are beyond shit. I feel like I need to stop reading so that I don't ruin the series.
I heard that it was officially published in english, is there better source?
Man, I really hope someone does pick that up again.
thetsuyaku seems to be working on his stuffs, though priority seems to be on his serialized work. Well, that group will get to them, I think.
How can Jojo 4 be duwang'd hard when it is the duwang?
Speaking of which, what happened to the jojo re-scanlating project?
For GTO-great scans,re-edited
Not that gg subs were all that different.
It's so bad it's good.
>series is completed
>just a few volumes left to be translated
>group drops it
God damn it.
