Is it true that girls like shounen such as SNK and death note more than actual shoujo stuff?
I don't know about them, but I love shoujo for some reason.
Even if I'm a guy.
Some girls may do.
Fujioshits do, normal girls like shoujo and stay away from shounen. But SNK was always normie stuff.
replace shoujo male with shounen male and the pic will be accurate.
I personally love shonen. I can't paying attention to shoujo~
Jump often panders to female audiences by bishounenifying their characters
The examples of shounen you gave were pretty "unisex" stuff, having both female and male attractive characters. Try with a more shounen series and you'll notice grills ain't much into it.
Also, just like with "gamer gurls", some females pretend to like shounen in order to get attention.
>no gigantic sparkly eyes and MASSIVE HANDS
according to >sankaku
the girl on the left looks like a mirrored antoinette
Those are yaoi hands.
Women liking male-oriented stuff has been a thing for years. Both Star Trek and Gundam had pretty good female bases.
it explains Gundam Wing
Is there such a thing as Shoujo Shounen
Funny, I've known a fair amount of women that liked shounen (Kenshin especially) and weren't into yaoi or anything.
I can't think of a shouen protag that looked that buff excluding pre-00s stuff
Normie shit just like SNK.
Don't say normie it makes you look silly anon-kun.
No, normal girls don't read manga that's for sure and shoujo is full of fujoshits
Manga is just as mainstream in japan as movies and TV.
we're not talking about japan
90% of the manga public is in Japan, if you are discussing manga demographics you are talking about japan.
ok you win
Well there are a lot more girls who like shonen than boys who like shojo, at any rate.
Of course perceptions in the West may also be a little skewed because frankly most girls who are nerdy enough to like animu and mango tend to also be tomboys to a certain degree.
Femanon here. I've actually never read shoujo. Can anybody recommend me one?
Girls mostly get into it to ship male characters together.
I knew I should have saved all those thisisbait.jpg that are so popular these days.
Host club, that's about all I know for good shoujo.
No, I genuinely want recommendations.
Thanks, I'll check.
Yeah pretty much. It's unlikely any girls are going to be into JoJo, DragonBall or Kenshiro stuff unless they happen to be bara lovers.
>Btw I'm a grill
I think it's just that the most popular manga happen to be shounen. And the majority of either gender like what's popular.
Then there's stuff like Prince of Tennis and Kuroko No Basuke...
And that is why you should fuck off.
I trust /a/ more than random google links.
It's an /a/ recommended chart.
>No, I genuinely want recommendations.
Boku No Piko
Or so I wish. It would have been a good shoujo shit like other yaoi manga, but no. Jews have to put it up as hentai, and 2 just threw 1's good story out the window.
Guess what faggot? >>101438075 is pointing to /a/'s wiki for newfags. Go there. be ashamed by your failure. Never post again, bitch.
You are not prepared.
Oops. I just saw google and didn't bother to check the rest of the picture. Embarrassing.
I already watched Boku no Pico.
>I trust /a/ more than random google links.
Did you actually look at that image?
Anyway, you've already gotten a good recommendation. Go watch that first.
Fujoshit like shounen because the men are better for shipping.
Normalshit girls like shojo. Both have shit taste.
Why would she search for anime recommendations when she was asking for manga recommendations?
It's the principle of the matter.
I really like shoujo for some reason btw i'm a guy.
No one insults Candy Candy on my watch.
Google manga recommendations.
4th fucking result, no excuses.
>This was nearly 8 years ago
>over a third of my life
I feel old, it hurts
No one gives a shit whether you're a girl or not. Stop the attention whoring, and keep on lurking.
Seriously. You "Care more about /a/'s opinion" but haven't been here a week. See the irony?
Anime is fine too, actually.
I've been here since 2007. Believe it or not.
I don't believe that for one second, fag.
Unless it's on other boards. But that's not really relevant.
And you still act like a newfag.
>male isn't super tall and handsome with super long legs, more defined lips and wider eyes
Nice try, but try again.
Girls can like shonen because of any combination of the following reasons.
1. Shonen is much more likely to be set in an interesting new world, while shojo tends to take place in school/the real world.
2. Once romance happens, it's not as interesting. In other words, it's the journey that's interesting. With many shojo, you know from the start that the guy and the girl are going to get together. In shonen, it's not as obvious, and thus every scene implying guy/girl have feelings or are developing feelings for each other is much more exciting.
3. They aren't into pretty boy love. Granted, this happens in both genre's, but from what I can tell guys sparkle and are feminized much more in shojo.
4. Shojo is boring.
5. Who the fuck wants to watch/read about misunderstandings and coincidences for 200 chapters. Action and asspulls are a lot more entertaining.
I know, I was just saying that the picture was faulty .
Also, the /a/ manga recommendation is kind of lacking if you're looking for shoujo manga. There's one chart that lists some shoujo/josei manga, but doesn't really differentiate them. Just saying. She's probably be better off looking elsewhere.
Feminine normal girls like shoujo. Femanon hambeasts are the only female type that read shounen shits but not just any shounen shits but the kinds with many "good looking" male leads.
Don't forget about odd proportions and flexibility.
These recs are shit, they don't even have Madoka Magica.
>It's unlikely any girls are going to be into JoJo
Ahaha get the fuck out. You have no idea what you're talking about.
switch the male roles and you got it right
Normal girls don't like anime or manga to begin with.
The male on the left doesn't really look like a shounen male, though.
He's weak and undesirable, he's a lead shonen character.
The guy to the right is pussy magnet that will fall in love with a humble girl even though pussy is constantly being thrown in his face, shoujo character
Assuming we're talking about shounen romance, he shouldn't be weak and undesirable, just as generic and average as possible. Also, the female should really look less mature and more cutesy.
it's pre-madoka, obviously.
>I've been here since 2007. Believe it or not.
yeah well ive been here since 1989
My favorite shoujo is catogorized as shounen. get on my level...
But the difference is that Kenshin is actually good.
Honestly to me it looks like left is anime style and right is western style.
Kare Kano is fucking awful. The ONLY slightly good thing associated with it were the episodes of the TV show that were directed by Anno. Until the mangaka threw a cunt fit and made him quit because he was telling it better than she could.
I read Ema Toyama's "I am Here".
It's short, it ends, it was pretty noob-friendly.
I usually just read cute-girls-doing-cute-things.
Pretty sure this picture is more accurate.
That's like asking if there's such a thing as girl-boys.
There are a lot of ostensibly shounen manga that try to appeal a lot to female readers like Kuroko no Basket and Black Butler. What are the shoujo equivalents of those manga, though?
Immortal Rain is a shoujo with a lot of shounen influences. Other than that, maybe shoujo with male leads, like Last Game.
Kono oto btomare.
It's supposed to be a shounen but it gives a very distinct shoujo feel except when it comes to the character design.
I really really like it.
One of those rare tsunderextsundere romance. It melts my heart.
Sabagebu. Getting an anime directed by Minami-ke/Love Lab's director. It's nearly indistinguishable from your usual cute girls doing fun things story.
What I got from this picture
>Girls like noses.
>Boy hate noses, but they like mental retardation..
I think it's more common for shounen to have shoujo influences (art style, tropes, etc) than the other way around. Probably because there are more women writing shounen than men writing shoujo (I would think anyway).
>Kono oto Tomare
This looks promising, thanks anon.
Aria has cute butts.
Pretty sure a good number of shoujo authors are men writing under a female pseudonym. While shounen manga are the most popular manga in general, the shoujo sphere is the most prolific with the highest turnout.
>Shounen side has slightly more accurate proportions but even worse anatomy and posing
>shounen side has no auras nor retarded mascots
>shoujo side male cannot crush a watermelon between his palms
>shoujo side is not plastered with unreasonably insane amounts of tone
Did you perhaps miss out the part where he says
>unless they happen to be bara lovers.
Shounen side female doesn't have giant red pimples on her exposed skin either.
That's seinen, for otaku exclusively, from my experience.
And yet you still behave like a fucking newfag. Congrats on being the cancer that's ailing /a/.
Why is shoujo girl such a modest lady of great virtue while shounen girl is a slut?
Natsume Yuujinchou seems to have quite notable amount of male fans.
I read both, mostly shounen and seinen but i do read shoujo occasionally, I used to read mainly shoujo when I was younger though. I used to not like all the unneeded fan service in the majority of shounen. Now I hardly notice it half the time and fine some manga and anime hard to tell whether it is created with males or females in mind for the target audience. For example I thought that Engaged to the unidentifyed side note I am 70% sure they are going to be ninjas was aimed towards girls but then the start song is kind of raunchy. I think my taste in manga is pretty varied some of my favorites for each category are:
>Oyasumi Punpun (still reading)
then for shoujo
>Kaichou wa Maid-sama
>Ouran high host club
>kimi ni todoke
It makes sense that it would go both ways. Series that reach a certain popularity level tend to draw in other demographics regardless of who the intended audience is (SnK, Basugay, Sword Art Online, etc.), so I can understand if there are authors who want to expand their sphere of readers by incorporating elements from more than one demographic.
Saikano comes to mind as a good example of a manga that succeeds in using elements of more than one demographic to convey its plot elements properly.
Both sides are completely unrealistic because they're intended to pander to a certain demographic's preferences. I won't say one's better than the other because they're both problematic in their own ways. I don't particularly want my men and women to look like delicate twigs, but I'm not really into making high school kids look 21 when they're really 16.
Oh fuck, I was reading that yesterday and I forgot it was shoujo.
>SNK and death note
2/10 made me respond
Maybe shoujo with male mcs?
Otomen looks like made for guys who like reading shoujo like me, 3d Kanojo as well, Ore Monogatari.
They aren't shounen?
Shoujoshit has them too.
They are absolutely shounen, or are you just being retarded?
Oh shit, I completely forgot about Durarara. That shit appeals to both genders.
>c.15 by S2scans (473d ago)
Aoi Bungaku was great.
Fujoshits do who are a minority. Normal young girls enjoy shoujo.
>Feminine normal girls don't like anime and manga. Femanon hambeasts are the only female type that read shounen and shoujo shits but not just any shounen or shoujo shits but the kinds with many "good looking" male leads
beck? ttgl? cool story..
It's released in my country so I'm buying it.
No wonder the left slut is so ugly.
They both ran in Shounen magazines. Remember, it's a demographic, not a genre.
Fuck off, you cancerous whore.
Gou is incredibly cute, much better than moeblob Rikka whose only qualities are the butt and the feet.
Mononoke and Mushishi aren't female aimed either, I guess the idea was to present good works outside the usual "for girls".
It's published in my country. I have read it all to the very end.
Otomen is so great, I've actually only read the first volume because mad man had a huge sale and sold a bunch of manga for $2-5 so I brought a shit load and otomen was pretty much the only one I liked. Asuka is such a qt 3.14
that shit was so gay.
Also I never noticed Angel beats! was directed towards girls. No kyou kara maou?
Is it gay to read shoujo and self insert as the female lead if you're a guy?
I'm sorry for your shit taste. Rikka is much cuter than that ugly whore.
Otomen is made for you anon. Just read it now.
Self-inserting as the girl is never gay.
Not even in a yuri manga?
Homoromantic maybe. Shoujo is rarely sexual, from what I've cared to see.
>Shoujo is rarely sexual
Huh? I thought it was either sparkles and rainbows or smut borderline H. At least that's my experience.
Pretty sure the demographic label doesn't make a damn difference 30% of the time.
The nature of fiction is to imagine the perspectives of different people. Putting yourself in the perspective of a young girl should not challenge your own gender and sexual identity, and in fact if you have trouble relating to a character who isn't similar to you, that's when you have something weird about you.
On the other hand, if you get REALLY excited about being a young girl falling in love with cute guys, well maybe you're a bit LGBT.
You've care to see the wrong stuff, then. Shoujo smut is a genre unto itself.
That's also how I get it, either super duper pure : they take forever just to hold hand, or just downright smutty. A bit like breats size in shounen either flat of gigantic with nothing in between.
*On the other hand, if you get REALLY excited about being a young girl falling in love with cute guys, well maybe you're a bit of a humongous faggot
>On the other hand, if you get REALLY excited about being a young girl falling in love with cute guys, well maybe you're a bit LGBT.
>I am Here
Fuck that manga. She keeps saying she's 'just' your normal highschool student who has no 'charismatic' appearance yet I see her as the most beautiful in her class.
I love that the "nice" guy won for once. Too bad the author went on and made some shitty smut manga with generic badboy #13634
>Manga is literally dead and looked down upon where I live.
Feels bad man. I've yet to come across a place selling manga.
Nice guys are boring (except Makoto).
Manchildren are the best..
Lucky you cannot purchase things upon the intert.
Internet, shit fuck.
I live in the middle of nowhere. Shipping is a bitch.
Have you actually checked online?
Makotofags please leave. He's more boring than your average generic nice guy.
I live is fucking rural Australia, my toilet is out fucking side. Get over it and buy in large amounts at a time.
He's also a huge dork, you forgot that. Absolute perfection.
His huge manly figure combined with his maternal personnality turns me on so much.
I wish he's going to inspire some quality husbando in future shoujo works.
Put the mc from Nyaruko aas shounen.
Couldn't agree more. In a way Gamagoori kind of reminds me of him. I don't know what it is but there is something about big guys being cute that just hit's me straight in the kokoro.
Fite me. Gou is cutest KyoAni girl.
>Aimed at girls
Anon, its obviously for the gays
It's ok, there is nothing bad with liking things for girls.
Can we have a shoujo recommendation thread*
I recommend Ao Haru Ride
I'm looking forward to the anime.
I hope Touma gets a decent amount of screentime. ;_;
I just wish shoujos could have manlier looking husbandos as opposed as the usual underfed ones.
I wish they could look like in sengoku basara or even Gintama...
But maybe that makes me an entry level barafag ?
I recommend :
Kono Oto Tomare
The beginning of Kimi Ni Todoke
The beginning of Skip Beat
I know what you mean, I prefer something in-between bara and bishounen myself.
Girls have liked shounen for decades.
I typed something to search for a certain image with Google, and I got a lot of other results. I wish I didn't do so.
Here, have one of the findings. Share my pain.
Why would you need them manly when they are absolutely fabulous?
Shinka is the hottest, cutest and bestest KyoAni girl.
That slut has got nothing on her.
There's been quite a lot of shoujo threads recently.
Sengoku Basara have them manly and fabulous.
That's why SB has the best husbandos and is a fujo favorite.
No, they really do not.
But he makes my dick erect.
Every time I watch a slice of life or a romantic comedy it's incredibly easy to tell whether a girl or guy wrote it
Girls always write more competent and manlier men
>Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun
>Akagami no Shirayuki hime
>Inari konkon Koi Iroha
I should've kept a list, because I've forgotten over half of the stuff I've been reading.
My sister isn't into bara and she loves JoJo. There's more to this stuff than sex appeal, you know.
Ignore him, he's obviously autistic if he believes that people need to have sexual reasons to like something. A good story is a good story and will appeal to everyone.
Your list is missing Fruits Basket.
You gotta have dat omnipandering, which most successful stories have. Male oriented stuff in general, like in movies or videogames, tends to reach a broader demographic, has more genres, etc... . I don't think it'd be too inaccurate to say that there's much less male fans of female-oriented series, than female fans of male-oriented series.
Well, a girl wrote Toradora
That's like saying a guy can only like a show with a female main cast (whether it's seinen, shoujo, or josei) if they just want to bone them or make them their waifus
Oh god it's true
I don't think that has any male fans at all, though
Don't forget EH? NANDATTE?
You can't generalize like that. There are a lot of male authors writing competent male character just like female ones for girl characters.
In relation to op's picture I don't think art style really varries that much apart from some shoujo stuff looking more old school. I do get that art style can change depending on what target audience you are making it for. Pic related, it's my own shitty example, left being directed towards girls and right being directed towards guys.
What a quality thread.
Are you a girl?
I am a gril
Little girls like shoujo and dream of a prince to come and rape them. Then they either become fujoshi and read shounen, become megasluts who want daddy's cock in their ass and read Josei, or become megasluts and want to molest schoolgirls and read yuri hime
Womens fucking LOVE shounen. See Kuroko no Basuke and HXH
Come on, you can do better. He looks like a young Chris from RE. Also, pick a better pose.
Fix the lips, blush and eye and she'll be passable
But she has tits. That's not a loli.
Even things like Jojo too. Part 5 especially has a huge female fanbase in Japan.
I only chose these too because they were similar is pose expression and to some extent, style, not because I think they are my best work.
the boy was a cartoony version of a character I have been drawing a lot (pic related). and the Girl was only a 20ish minute practice with a new brush on sai because it was a recommended setting for an acrylic brush.
>But she has tits. That's not a loli.
Both of those artstyles look the same to me
Try drawing both a boy and a girl in each artstyle
Not sure if you can see the differnce but I can. Oh well I tried.
The best selling manga magazine among nip teen girls is WSJ
Males confirmed for gre-
Japan a shit
Because it isn't a shoujo, demographic is not a genre,
I laughed at Nisekoi thingie. Goddamn, I cannot hold all that shit taste.
Why teen girls would be interested on haremshit?
In fact, WSJ wants more high school rom-coms for attracting male readers. It seems action/adventure is for girls and romance is for guys
Well, if Nisekoi's success results in actually good WSJ romance manga being made in the future, I'm cool.
Action/sports/etc has lots of guy characters and romance/harem has lots of girl characters. So it makes sense.
Sports also have a lot of male bonding so it's probably another reason why people cry fowl that series like Oofuri and Yowamushi Pedal. But most of the time they're good series in general.
>Imitation japanese art
No. The art style isn't even right.
As much as it hurts, normie shit.
yeah but it's not that very common
What would Natsume's Book of Friends count as?
I'd recommend Bitter Virgin.
It's very shoujo but very short.
I'm a grill, I like shoujo more than shounen. Shounen a shit.
Maybe Natsume Yuujinchou?
Or any shoujo without a romance focus really
Hey look guys, a Shoujo manga with a properly established relationship!
The couple even has sex too. Plus it's a girl (who is sometimes a reverse trap) dating a trap (who occasionally dresses as a guy).
Shoujo. It runs in a magazine full of romances
I hope WSJ won't alienate kids that just want to live their power fantasies through chinese cartoons in favor of otakus like JRPG did
That manga is great, /a/ would love it if it got an anime.
>actually good in any possible way
They're all tryhards that try to be more mature than the medium allows it.
That, uh, wow actually that is kind of a unique set up. Picked up.
Go read Kuragehime, right now.
This division is old as fuck and incredibly outdated.
Shonen series aimed at girls are common these days. Even in WSJ.
While traditional shojo became very rare.
Imagine the unholy mix of trapfags, yurifags and fujoshi it would attract.
It also has some side couples like pairs of twins dating each other and a really tall girl dating a shorter guy and things.
Plus crossdressing and other stupidity.
But that's Josei.
>>101463831 should read it though.
Like almost every shonen.
And now for reverse trap x Guy cover
>While traditional shojo became very rare
98% of shoujo mangas are about an asshole raping/sexually harassing an average school girl until she likes it. Isn't that traditional shoujo? Plot-driven shoujo mangas have moved to shounen/seinen magazines
Dammit, I'm sorry. As for seinin, OPM is seinin though.
This shit is ultra niche. Always was.
If anything tsundere female abusing and harassing a weak male is 20 times more common.
Mangas aimed to female audience under age 16.
>As much as it hurts,
You're only hurting yourself using that retarded term.
When OP said SNK I was thinking HnK and got confused, then understood and was finally disappointed.
Girls wouldn't like manly men.
By traditional, do you mean the stuff from the 70's and 80's?
The only active mangaka I can think of that stubbornly clings to the old school style is Tamura Yumi.
Nah, there's lots of shoujo that go far from the shitty standard set up.
Like having a University set up or a strong female lead.
Nobody likes manly men anymore.
>Shoujo male is only 5' 8"
I like manly men, not roid monsters.
Old school shojo and it's artstyle are dead. It's a relict of the times when girls were only supposed to like romance and dominant men.
These days young girls watch PreCures punching the crap out of monsters and homoerotic bishies cutting each other with swords.
>Old school shoujos
How wrong can you be. Old school have husbandos more on the beta side. See André from RoV. I don't remember the dudes in Candy Candy to be especially dominant either. Most of them were good natured ouji-samas with maybe one brooding edgemaster.
>If anything tsundere female abusing and harassing a weak male is 20 times more common
On male-aimed works, except they tend to be way more popular than female-aimed works. The top 50 of best selling mangas is dominated by shounen/seinen titles, with only 3 or 4 shoujo/josei titles on the entire list
Is that tall?
Old shoujo titles were writen by men or with men having a lot of creative control. As a result, the prince charming was the star
Considering how big shounen tends to be, it'd be easier to find girls into shounen than girls into shoujo.
Women don't collect tankobon manga. They have too many magazines to go through.
Big franchises aimed at girls like Precure are drowning in money despite the fact that their manga sell like crap.
Precure was born as a Bandai brand so it has different standards. Besides, a good portion of the money come from pedo otakus
I don't like how the girl in the Shoujo is looking nowhere.
She's dead inside after all the rape and bullying
This, I hate how the caring and quiet guy who is always helping the feMC lose every time against an aggressive shitter that act like a monkey, in romantic shojo the romance is supposed to be the major plot point and I hate the way they handle romance and the characters, also the side characters are always the best.
In the other hand with shonen I don't give a shit about who wins in a harem because romance in harems is barely a gimmicky to have a lot of female characters around the MC, the romance is so shallow that is impossible to take seriously and that's good because only works as plot device.
>Not rooting for the asshole
Are you a guy or something?
Actually shoujo manga is probably the largest of the 4 demographics (more than half of all manga turnout tends to be from shoujo mags)
Shounen is the most popular
Seinen is the most critically successful
and Josei has nothing
Can you give us example, because right now, it feels like a nerd wishfullfillement hollywood flick reversed.
Kimi Ni Todoke : the nice guy wins (he didn't really have any rival though)
RoV : childhood friend beta nice guy André wins
Otomen : the beta girly dude MC wins his waifu
Skip Beat : It's clear Ren the nice guy (though he's still a bit edgy) is going to win against douchebag manslut Shou and creepy rapist Reino.
Chihayafuru ; poorfag megane nice guy is going to win over richfag former bully Taichi.
Only case of a douchebag winning I can think of is Domyouji in Hana Yori Dango. But only after the good guy MC was in love with ditched her for a better chick.
Tonari no Kaibutsu and Reimei no Arcana were the last I read and they were infuriating.
>Kimi Ni Todoke
I'ts one of the few exceptions, not the rule
Classic shoujo and Ikeda was leftist
Never followed them
Josei and still a very controversial move. Ask Taichifags
When people think in shoujo, they think in mangas like Itazura na Kiss, Hot Gimmick,
Kyou Koi Wo Hajimemasu, Mayu Shinjo's works. The lowest common denominator
Are you legitimately homosexual?
All six of them.
Maybe am I too cautious when picking my shoujos.
You'd be surprised how long bara has been around for fujoshi.
Shounen shoujo wa ni natte
Doesn't Aria count as Shounen and Shoujo?
They call that Seinen.
And it's a full on mess every time
If gringos only watched Saint Seiya in their childhoods, they wouldn't have so much problems with girls liking their male adolescent power fantasies
They watch both? That is, if they're straight. I know from experience that if the main dude is hot enough, they'll watch it no matter how shitty or what genre it is.
Btw I'm a grill, but I'm a dyke so all I watch is moeshit and anything where 99% of the cast is female.
Aria's a Shoujo as said by wikipedia, although the original Aqua run was both Shoujo and Shounen.
I was expecting it to be seinen too, most of those kinds of series tend to be seinen.
I love this series
I tried guys
I really did.
This reminds me of this one shojou about a reverse trap who goes to this all boys school to beat the dude who she gave her virginity to at soccer. There's this nice guy who goes out of his way to help her and she still goes to the asshole who fucked her and ditched her
Is there such thing as a shounen drawn in shoujo-style art, and a shoujo drawn in shounen-style art?
Sailor Moon could arguably classified as a shonen with a shoujo art style
