>not jerking off to Boku no Pico
Boku no Pico is entry level shit.
I've never watched it.
Honestly it's a pretty stale meme at this point. We need something new.
there's Bible Black, for those special snowflakes who want to be different
I can't into homosexuality. What can appreciate is how amazingly well done it is, not just for niche fetish material but as a work of animation of anykind. It is simply put one of the most technically perfectly crafted examples of the medium. It sucks that it is what it is, because if it wasn't about fucking little boys people would be able to see the absolute perfection that was put into making it.
No lolis. No fucks given.
> It is simply put one of the most technically perfectly crafted examples of the medium
Why? What about it is so perfect?
But bible black is actually good. I really don't get why you think its a good troll, its an awesome hentai with a dark/mysterious plot.
Boku no Pico is objectively the one of the best anime ever made hentai or otherwise, featuring incredibly high quality in production values, excellent direction, perfectly cast seiyuu, measured pacing, a deep plot that is the perfect representation of the monomyth, well written dialogue, likeable characters, smooth fluid animation, top notch character designs, immersive sound design, and a god tier soundtrack.
It is one of the reasons I have a love hate relationship with anime. One the one hand it is technically perfect and an example of how animation can become sublime art, but on the other hand the subject matter is base fetish fuel.
Boku no Pico is actually very well done
Not even joking. It is one of the most incredibly finely crafted pieces of animation ever made. Subject matter aside, it is brilliant. The composition is flawless, the production values are consistently high. The direction is without any irony or hyperbole beyond Ghibli and Kyoani at their best and has shades of a young Scorsese. The animation is smooth and flows without ever breaking immersion. The use of light and dark is reminiscent of Truffaut. My only real grip is character design, but that stems form the subject matter and intended audience.
That isn't even getting into the other facets of the series such as the soundtrack, seiyuu, etc. It is probably the most complete example of the art of animation ever made.
And god damn do I hate it for that.
This anime is one that makes me regret my hobby. I absolutely love the care and diligence that the production team spent on making something so technically perfect, but all that talent and effort is wasted on the story.
If they had put the same love and skill into ANY other story it would without a doubt be universally hailed as the greatest piece of animation ever crafted, but lol Japan it is about fucking little boys.
I don't know. People need to watch it and decide for themselves
Basically it boils down to this. If you are unable to appreciate it and acknowledge it as the best anime ever made it is because you are too insecure in your own sexuality to appreciate art, and should fuck off of /a/ and back to MAL with the other casuals.
Damn it...you are making me want to watch it. If only to know if you are telling the truth.
I really wouldn't reccomend watching it, and I was one of those guys you quoted. It is honestly amazing, but if you don't believe your power levels are high enough that you can focus on the craft, you will just get swept up in the story and not really appreciate it.
It is gay, really really gay, but it is also fucking unbelievable if you are a student of the medium.
>too insecure in your own sexuality
I've seen horsefuckers use that argument all the time.
It all just boils down to the fact that you're a flaming faggot.
But I'm not gay. The thing is as much as I find pederasty disgusting, this is a really well made anime. It is a lesson in how to produce quality animation, and it is a shame about the subject matter because it amazing otherwise. The direction is some of the finest that has ever been done. It is really odd because if you look at Katsuyoshi Yatabe's work, no other project he has ever been a part of demonstrates the same level of excellence. It is something of an anomaly. This was likely a very personal work for him, and he put parts of himself into it that he didn't in any other work he was a part of. The use of light and dark conveys an almost ominous atmosphere that juxtaposes the light playfulness of the dialog.
From the score, to the choice of seiyuu, this is an example of technical brilliance that only highlights the fact that it Boku no Pico is very very strange. This anime should not be this well done. It is a niche market fetish material that somehow transcends it's own nature and become almost sublime.
If I didn't find the subject material so morally repugnant I would consider this one of the finest pieces of animation, not just anime, ever made.
Honestly I can't tell if you're fucking with me but in my heart of hearts I want to believe there's a very talented group of people out there that create porno because that's what they can do to pay the bills.
Not fucking with you, and if you look into the director's history there is nothing that is anything like this. His resume is standard jobber shit, but in the middle of his career he has this one brilliant project before going right back to directing mediocre paying gigs. It is like he channeled a lifetime of his art into this one thing and then realized that people didn't care about what it was, but rather what it was about, and just gave up.
Why did Boku no Pico get the shitty meme about it? It looks like a pretty decent trap hentai.
So kind of like the dude that made golden boy?
Because it is a litmus test. It was anons way to weed out newfags and see if they were the type of poster that would actually be good for the board. If you were able to look past what it was originally about and be able to appreciate the way it was made than you are the kind of person that is elitist enough to be a good /a/utist. That is why it is in every rec thread, so that when someone new comes from some shitty anime forum because they heard about /a/ and is looking to see what we like we can either scare them off, or welcome someone new in.
Well not exactly. Golden Boy is amazing because of it's story, but it's animation and direction is less than stellar, especially when you compare it with other big budget OVAs of the time. It suffers from frame rate issues, pacing problems, poor perspective on the background stills, recycled frames, and inconsistencies in character designs. It's good points are it's timing, writing, it's ironic self-deprecation which was unheard of for the time, and willingness to engage in a dialog regarding emergent social issues. The inverse holds true for Boku no Pico.
Unless you are talking about how the director made one brilliant anime and then just disappeared. Which rereading your question I think that was what you were asking and I just wasted three minutes typing a response that was unneeded.
The animation is the only thing it has going for it though.
The writing is just awful.
>"hello there random customer"
>"would you mind taking my grandson with you to go sightseeing?"
>"don't fuck him pls"
Though the other two weren't as bad as the first in that aspect.
I dig that your knowledgeable about somewhat obscure anime.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
I'm attracted to the premise but every time I watch it I'm afraid it will put me on some kind of FBI watchlist or something.
I wouldn't call either of those obscure. This is some pretty basic knowledge that any fan of anime should have. I am probably biased though as I am a great deal older than the average /a/utist, and had the pleasure of receiving a fansub of Golden Boy when it was released, back in the day when everything was hardcoded onto VHS and copied endlessly as it was passed from anime club to anime club.
It isn't illegal in the states, and unless you have something you are trying to hide, I don't see why you would care if you were on a watch list. All of our cell and text conversations are being recorded and monitored so it's not like they aren't already watching you.
That is true. There are much worse things you could like than cute 2D boys. It just makes me feel self-concious is all.
I would honestly recommend not watching it then. If you are too self aware you won't be able to focus on the craftsmanship, and that is the whole point of watching it.
