So I'm Currently waiting on this to finish downloading. My question is; will I learn about Mahjong as I watch or will I actually have to have a basic understanding before I watch? I was reading up on Mahjong via Wiki, but that didn't really help.
it won't teach you anything.
even with a basic understanding you still won't get what akagi is doing...
Knowing how to play Mahjong isn't necessary, but it makes it better.
you don't need any understanding to watch and it's still awesome. an understanding before hand makes it even more awesome.
Re-watching Akagi after playing for a few months on Tenhou made the experience that much better. You actually flip out when Akagi pulls off crazy hands instead of just going with the flow.
Well that seems fine to me.
Here's a question, if you do learn how to play Mahjong, who will you it with?
the character, akagi, is awesome. unfortunately the story he's stuck in isn't.
4channers and Moon people.
Read that to get an understanding of Riichi Mahjong. Whatever you found on a wiki has only a 1 in 30 chance of being the Japanese variant.
I watched Akagi a second time when I knew how to play and it definitely hightened to experience.
Play online, like Tenhou or Ron2.
i'd it it with akagi
All you need to know is
Ten Pai = Shit is gonna go down
Ron = Other guy is shitting bricks
Tsumo = Other guy might shit bricks
Riichi = About to fuck shit up
I have no plans to play with my friends or anything like that I just wanna know whats going on when he does something and people are gasping and shit.
Summary in one page
How I it?
Oh wow. A month ago I wouldn't have got this joke at all.
I'd it gba Akagi.
If you understand the mechanics of Mahjong, then the bricks you shit will be much more dense, due to your understanding of the game's odds and how Akagi gets some fucking amazing hands that you'd never see in real like.
Think of it like watching Casino Royale, but knowing/not knowing how to play Poker.
