Oh wow, it's like I'm watching a yuri anime or something.
Good show I've heard.
By the way I'd recommend using the new subs - much but much better video quality.
Oh, it's already finished?
Thanks. Gotta check it out since it looked so much better indeed.
Hope the translation's better too since this sub is quite... lackluster, so to speak.
It's still a long way from being finished, actually - I forgot to mention this, my apologies. Only 14 episodes are left, but they are being released at such a slow and sporadic pace that it could take up to 3 years until we see the whole thing subbed ;_;
Either way, I'd still recommend using the new subs up to the point it's done if you don't mind switching back to the old version for the remaining episodes. And yeah, the new translation is far better and actually makes sense grammatically-wise.
On a side note, Akage no Anne will be getting release in a couple of months. Here's a pic from the Green Gables compilation film just to give an idea on how the show looks in its full glory. Beautiful stuff!
getting a BD release*, that's it.
Holy fuck, that looks gorgeous.
I know, right? People are quick to criticize the show's animation (which isn't exactly fair considering it's from 35 years ago), but for an atmospheric work like this the art direction is just as if not more important.
Oh shit, I just checked the torrent for the new sub on Nyaa and it's pretty much dying at this point.
Guess I'll just stick with the old one for now.
The seeders are few but the episodes should download at reasonable speeds either way. They look dead but they aren't.
>Say your prayers, Anne.
>Fuck that shit. God gave me red hair. He can go suck a dick.
The feisty red-head character was born.
Is Anne of Green gables the original moeshit?
I mean in all of literature?
Japan is fine with underage girls playing love with other girls because they can't get pregnant that way. Still liking girls after adolescence is a big no though
It, along with A Little Princess and maybe Little Women too (though I don't really see it), started the whole class-S yuri trope.
And I still can't believe that the book was a mandatory reading in Japanese schools. I mean, it's a goddamn foreign book.
They put Rosa's theme from FFIV into their music classes too. Japan is like the ultimate collection of trivia nerd country.
Also, A Little Princess also started a lot of shoujo tropes. Mainly, boarding school for high-class ladies and the sadistic-as-fuck villain with her girl posse.
Applying 4chan-devised derogatory troll terms for anime to literature, I hope you are just pretending to be stupid.
Kinda curious that Class S started as a shoujo trope but nowadays it's targeted toward ronery otakus
Read the intro to ningen Shikkaku, you'll learn something about what japanese think of their literature.
What are the new subs caled?
>They put Rosa's theme from FFIV into their music classes too.
Why is it so difficult to believe considering post-WWII Japan was being heavily westernized at the time?
[Silver_zero_Subs] according to nyaa.
I can see why there's a joke that the WMT era created many future lolicons. All this top tier lolis.
Thanks, I'm stupid, I was looking at the 09 series, I've already found it.
You mean, pre WW1 Meiji era
That's not Amy.
80s Mahou Shoujo were what started the lolicon trend for real though.
>all those lolis changing into adults
Didn't catch the fetishy aspect when I watched it as a kid.
I still got that odd feeling when I saw them wearing a miniskirt though.
Based Creamy Mami
When I was young Creamy Mami was airing on tv but I didn't watch it because it was a girl cartoon, same with Sailor Moon, altough I really liked Sailor Mars.
God, how I wish Little Women would get subbed.
Well there's still the dubs if you don't mind suffering just a bit.
Wasn't the dub for the older Toei movie one?
Nah. Someone actually ripped the show's american dub and integrated the audio into the Japanese DVD release.
Here's a link with the episodes for download in case you are interested: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/p1j8ssektrsiqs6/1yUOi7ySH1/Little%20Women%20-%20Precursors?lst
By the way, has there even been an English dub for Akage no Anne? You'd think dem Canadians would be interested in it.
No, but it aired all over Europe back in the days - from Portugal to Italy. All nonenglish speaking countries, which is certainly ironic.
Daily reminder that it's not only Strike Witches that has a Finland girl in it.
I didn't know old anime could be so moe
It's really not.
Real class S, stuff like Marimite, is still targeted towards women and girls. Sakura Trick isn't S.
Thanks for reminding me I need to watch Fancy Lala.
2ch's favorite amongst the other sisters, even beating the Western darling Jo.
Oh, I loved that show. The interesting thing about it is that it pretty light on the mahou shoujo elements. If anything it's closer to being a slice of life than a magical girl anime.
>2ch's favorite is the loli
Why am I not surprised?
Everything has a Finnish girl in it these days.
Katri is special because it also has Finnish boys.
Marimite got 4 seasons because it was really huge among male otakus despite it was published on a shoujo magazine and stuff like Sakura Trick or Yuruyuri is just Class S adapted to otaku tastes (pure maidens on secluded all-female enviroment playing love because they're too pure and innocent to deal with men)
Back then I thought all these were native shows.
That scene hit me like a truck, didn't expect something like this from a relaxing show for little girls.
That's how unique WMT shows are. They're the ultimate westaboo anime.
Those pictures look like paintings. I think I am mesmerized...
Ghibli Hills at its finest.
Well, aren't they paintings?
Poor Lilu ;__;
I'm sure that scene resonated with many people - this is one of the things that Fancy Lala does best. To be honest I still can't take the episode where Miho thought her mom's job would take her away.
Why they don't make female-aimed mangas about girls being sis?
98% of modern shoujo is about an asshole raping/pseudo-raping the FeMC and all the female characters trying at some point to stab the FeMC at the back.
>female-aimed mangas about girls being sis
Isn't this pretty much what Marimite is about?
- It started in the 90s
- It got a huge following among male otakus and it has a big influence on "cute girls douing cute things", otakus's favorite subgenre
>girls being sis?
What does that mean?
Like guys being bros
Not sure what point you are trying to make. Either way, 'cute girls doing cute things' has been ever-present since the adolescent days of Shoujo manga.
You do realize WMT works are adaptations of Western classic books? No shit you're going to get something different with your generic nowadays shoujo.
Older shoujo put cute things to enphatize the horrible bullshit their characters went through. Like a fairy tale is full of death and tears.
>Akage no Anne has an entire episode about the feMC and her friend playing in the forest
Confirmed for starting 'cute girls doing cute things'
I'm in this joke but you're seriously going to make someone believe this.
Maybe if it never existed we wouldn't have so many moe shows nowadays. Damn it...
Oh shit, Anne of Green Gables has an anime. I loved that book.
I guess even child-me was into yuri.
Oh, what wouldn't I give for a crossover story between the main characters of the WMT series? They all live around the same day and age after all.
I don't care if it's a fanfic. Just make it, please.
>They all live around the same day and age
To be honest I'm not even sure we'll ever be getting another WMT anime. There was a revival some years ago, but that didn't last long.
Goro Miyazaki is directing Ronia the Robber's Daughter animu now, and I know well the story is too fantastical for Nippon Animation standard but it's a shame they're not doing it.
...Well, now I'm embarrassed at myself.
Blame me only watching the ones taking place around year 1900.
Still, I can see adult Sara and adult Anne meeting up with Katri and Perrine in WW1.
No sweat, just more reason to keep watching more of them.
Hmm I'm pretty certain the Green Gables novel was set in the 1870s.
>too fantastical for Nippon Animation standard
Wasn't Peter Pan pretty fantastical?
I'm looking forward to Sanzoku no Musume Ronja too, but ewww, not sure how to feel about it being fully CGI animated; even if the animation turns out good.
Well, yeah, but it's one of a kind and came right after Cedie flopped hard.
I read somewhere about the ways they tried to revive the series and those included a sequel of a previous series, a fantasy title, an original story set in Japan, attracting shoujo demographic, and maybe more.
I can't think of many examples of 3DCG character animation that I'd call good even static. Maybe that recent Guilty Gear trailer.
>attracting shoujo demographic
Which one was that again?
Daddy Long Legs.
...Oh God that's a bishonen, isn't it?
Christ that would be hilarious.
No it's just a regular sultry poet girl.
Well, seeing that it's trying to get more shoujo demographic...
Still, I don't see what's particularly shoujo-ish about it. Weren't most shoujo anime are magical girl anime back then?
I can think of a few CGI titles with good and well-integrated character animation, however they are all movies. So to be honest I'm not exactly optimistic about Musume Ronja, being a TV series and all. Unless it gets a really big budget things probably won't look very good. Though I don't think Ghibli will be willing to splash out a lot of cash for a sort of risky project like this one.
Shoujo has always been a manga genre, although there are adaptations like RoV or Doorway to Summer from the period.
Also mahou shoujo != shoujo, what Daddy Long Legs went for was more like 70s shoujo and year 24 group things with its heavy love drama and triangles, boarding school setting, illnesses, kind of taboo love and stuff. The conventions are obvious if you've been exposed to them before.
>its heavy love drama and triangles
I guess it was some secondary character who got this part and not the MC. The MC played the role of cupid of some sort.
I wish there was an anime remake of Lady Georgie and they kept original manga ending.
I love how in the trendsetter, it was really a girl just pretending to be a guy, not an actual guy that just looked that feminine.
Sally's brother loved Judy, Julia loved Sally's brother, that part.
I'm so hyped.
Her face looks particularly lewd there.
