Can any Australian or NZ bros who were at the showing today enlighten me as to what the fuck I just watched?
Homura did nothing wrong
Well it was amazing, I'll give it that.
I don't want to sound like a pretentious douche or anything but I was mind blown at how beautiful the visuals were. Like, I'd say it was art. For some reason the bus scene really stood out. Just how surreal the whole thing felt.
I don't even know if it was a good ending or a bad ending or somewhere in between though. Does Homura being "evil" really have any implications?
Not unless there's a sequel, No.
I know what you mean. The Mami vs Homura scene was fucking beautiful on the big screen. The camrip I saw really doesn't do the movie justice.
>what the fuck I just watched?
>Homura did nothing wrong
>watching the camrip when you had tickets
>not leaving /a/ on 25th of October and waiting for the movie in anticipation
Do you even like Madoka?
The Aus/NZ screening wasn't even announced when I saw the camrip. And nothing ever comes to NZ so I decided I might as well.
I've been online for four hours trying to figure it out. Sure wish I'd been around in November for all the fresh discussion. Now no one wants to help out the people who've held off watching till this late
Any Wellington bros see it at Paramount with me?
This was one of my first thoughts after seeing it, but i still enjoyed it
All the surreal scenes, the hellscapes and the world collapsing etc felt Evangelion class mind fuckery, it has to be said.
I can't help but feel that they should have made this movie into the first part of a second season. It would cut out some of the more useless stuff, and it wouldn't end in such a wishy-washy way.
What don't you get? I'll try to explain.
Saw it at Auckland. Fucking sweat box that lobby was.
Now watch it for a second time. Seriously, it adds to the experience.
Daily reminder that Rebellion is just an easy cash in that ruins the whole series.
Urobuchi: From the start, the idea was “Homura becomes a witch, and the story takes place inside her barrier”. But at the time, I wanted to end the story with Madoka taking Homura away with her. So, I thought the story would end this time for real (laughs). But both Iwakami-san and Shinbou-san were like, “No, we want the story to keep going after this” and wouldn’t give me the OK. So then when I was getting really worried, Shinbou-san was like “Might as well just make Madoka and Homura into enemies”. And that suggestion was basically the breakthrough. I really agreed that Homura might be plausible as Madoka’s equal opposite.
"While the show was still airing Iwagami approached me and asked what I thought about doing a sequel. I just laughed it off and didn't take it seriously but he repeated it several times and I eventually realised he was serious."
The ride will not end here anon.
season 2 when
Also I was at the brisbane screening today, jesus christ you are all a bunch of huge nerds
The bit where Kyubey is "wow fuck this shit, humans are insane, we're outta here" and Devil Homura is all "NOPE" along with Homura basically dancing on Kyubey's grave after the end credits were ridiculously gratifying.
Keep on the good job pasta fag.
I know, of course, more is inevitable.
But putting it in a movie makes it not work as a standalone movie. If that makes sense.
I can't decide if it's good or not until we see more, because it depends on where they go.
Man, everyone there had fucking neckbeards, I swear. No fedoras though which was surprising
>The bit where Kyubey is "wow fuck this shit, humans are insane, we're outta here"
That part was great
So were the fuckey landscapes real (with no-one noticing 'cause memory stuff) or just an artistic choice?
Post your face in the cinema when AI YO
>watch madoka in theaters alone
>all good seats are taken
>have to get a shitty back row seat, upper floor seats block a bit of my view
>get crowded by a girl and her friends
>volume is too fucking loud, every time Kyuubey speaks it's like a drill to my ears
>popcorn tastes funny, iced tea is all gone
>whole movie is uncomfortable
>feel nothing the whole movie
It wasn't very fun.
Keep a look out for /a/usmeets next time, comrades.
Could be either really
I'm leaning more towards artistic choice however
Both, presumably. Same with the faces.
Sort of a 'it looks fine until they notice' type thing.
The landscape was deteriorating as Homura became more stressed, since in reality the maze was inside her soul the whole time and was changing shape to match how she was feeling.
I loved it, really want to re-watch it with my peeps that haven't seen it so we can fangirl over it.
You should have gotten there earlier for good seats. And who the fuck eats popcorn while watching a movie that he actually cares about?
She really didn't do anything wrong, though.
I have no face, my mind is still not processing what happened.
But I do feel incredibly sad/dead inside and I feel like this will take a week before I go back to normal.
That ED song though ;_;
Can you not concentrate on watching a movie if you're eating popcorn or something?
I satiate anxiety with chewing things.
Do you Ausfags even this?
Anyone else go to the 5PM in Sydney?
I think I understand what just happened, mostly, sent this to a friend who went with me on Skype because he didn't understand exactly what Homura did to Madoka (it is a formatted like an instant chat because it is one):
This is a summary of what Homura did at the end
In the original series
How Madoka became a God was because magical girls in that series
Are a buildup of the powerful positive emotions of "hope"
And the actions of Homura built up positive hope for Madoka to live on
Until she could make a wish where she could become omnipresent
And destroy all witches before they were born
Now in Rebellion Homura creates a new emotional set of forces that other magical girls don't have
She uses her "suffering" that she has gone through (remember she says this) to create a new force because of her willingnesss to go through that suffering
Which is love
(A force created through the willingness to suffer for Madoka)
It is neither a positive or negative emotion
But contains just as much force
So when Homura catches the Madoka deity
She literally uses her Soul Gem to rip Madoka from the deity
So all the power of Madoka's wish
Is there as a seperate deity with nothing controlling it now
So Homura switches places with Madoka
And uses her new "love" force
With the omnipresence of Madoka
To spread an infinite witch's barrier over the universe (since during the movie she learned how to accept her negative emotions and hence turn into a witch and then back into a human)
And from there she rebuilds elements of the universe to cater to Madoka
And she can also maintain herself as an existence unlike Madoka could
Because for all intents and purposes Homura is more powerful than Madoka now
>tfw probably not enough channers for a NZ meet
It was a snow day, everything shut down and the buses were late as fuck. I barely made it as is. Also I like popcorn, go fuck yourself.
i got the mami/bebe one. kind of disappointed. i really wanted homu or hamu/madoka
I kinda felt that too, but part of me really wants to believe there was an alternate world where riding on top of a bus through a tron landscape accessed only by a ridiculously steep bridge is normal. It'd just be so much more... I don't quite know the word for it. Maybe there is one and I forgot how to brain.
I agree with all of that, man. Visually, it was fucking amazing. I now understand what people were talking about when they say BDs won't do the movie justice; it's really something that should be watched at the cinemas.
>For some reason the bus scene really stood out. Just how surreal the whole thing felt.
This scene particularly would be a lot worse on a smaller screen.
I thought it was a really good movie both in terms of story and visuals and was happy that the movie didn't feel like some kind of filler movie
e.g. Kamen Rider movies Steins;Gate movie (so I heard) or Diebuster (not implying it's bad)
for the sake of fanwank. Though the sequel was not really necessary it felt like a well done sequel that didn't feel completely out of place to the series or manage to ruin to series/franchise. Though I do admit I got lost near the end of the movie.
I still don't understand why some people are saying this movie ruins the series and that it completely shits on the themes the tv series was trying to convey
I-I'd meet up with you, anon.
Assuming you're not a Wellingtonian
I got Godoka originally. It's called trading, idiot.
w-wow, i am a wellingtonian
I got that one too, but I wanted the homumado more
i didn't open mine until i got home. i would have been too nervous to ask for trades anyway.
I woke up late so basically empty stomach during the screening. Lucky no one heard mine acting.
Last thread there were several. It was easy to find out because there was only one auckland screening. I'd meet up with you.
The guy who was with the girl in the QB hat was one, and there were at least two more that were posting. Including me that's at least five in auckland.
What's next though? What's the chance of Kizumonogatari in auckland?
Got my waifu. >>101307721
I do not recall this AI YO scene?
Saw it twice in the theaters. April can't get here soon enough.
homu up in here
There's a few, at least.
>What's the chance of Kizumonogatari in auckland?
Fat fucking chance. Then again, I said the same thing about Madoka.
Eva 4.44? Maybe.
Wellington got one too.
>What's the chance of Kizumonogatari in auckland
Same as the chance of Kizumonogatari ANYWHERE.
Was at the melb screening, had already seen the camrip and half went just to get my poster and japanese program.
The reaction to akuma-homura was pretty much how I imagined /a/ if they where already in a room together.
>That one guy that screamed CANON! when Sakura's VA confirmed her and Sayaka where "Partners"
>The forced laughter at every cheese joke
>The trap winning the cosplay contest
>The collective fist pump when QB trys to GTFO but is trapped by homura.
Also, that final scene after credits, despair-QB final boss?
eva 4.44 has a pretty fucking good chance of seeing a release bigger than rebellion in aus/nz.
kizu is another matter though.
Are you serious?
It doesn't ruin the series but it does intentionally contradict the themes of the series. It replace the message of hope with a much more negative message of selfishly going after what you want. Not saying that is bad, I quite enjoyed the way the movie changed the themes of the series and actually did it quite smoothly.
Mami/Nagisa reporting in.
I'm not sure what else Madman is gonna bring here, might ask on their facebook
>one vote wgtn
feels lonely man
How many people were at the Wellington screening anyways?
It's the part where she Tears apart Madokami and Rapes Coobie
But yeah, eva probably. Or if not, maybe Armageddon expo or something. Does /a/ even armageddon? I've never seen any threads or any standout groups there.
Homura's soul gem is corrupted by love.
She tells QB that she basically went crazy over her love of madoka.
She really lost her mind.
>Does /a/ even armageddon?
Armageddon is a bit shit.
Got lone Homura (with white hair) and traded it with my friend and I now have the same one as you. Had a bitch fit when he said he didn't like Sakura or Kyoko
Do you think it's a given that there will be a 4th movie?
Or are they just going to leave it like that
I don't know what to do with it now. Does it need framing? Do I just blu-tack it to the wall? Put it in a drawer and forget it?
What other people's approaches?
It was a 60 seat cinema and it was fully booked, but there was one or two free seats
Probably for people who bought a ticket for their Daki, but were too chicken to actujally bring them along
i don't really mind the contradictory theme though. the series was about madoka and was hopeful because that's the sort of person madoka is.
rebellion is about homu and she's a selfish girl. she reset time over and over and was happy to kill the other meguca in order to secure madoka's happiness. and in the movie she takes that a step further.
>he didn't like Sakura or Kyoko
I know it's common to ignore Sayaka, but you don't have to say Kyouko twice.
This clears it up a lot, thanks.
Got nothing. Even got there an hour early. So fucking disappointed.
Some tumblrtards I know go and they asked me to join. I declined.
Melb here, the "fuck your shit Im outta here" was hilarous but you know what is more than that? The Kim Jong il ad before screening.
I'm gonna get a frame for it I guess
the people handing out the posters gave me a flier for some anime con that'll be taking place in canberra.
given that it's taking place in canberra it will be tiny and shitty. any c/a/nberrans gonna go?
Did anybody here get the Homu/Madoka board?
Got the Homura one and kind of wish I could have somehow gotten them both...
I have it on a shelf leaning on the wall.
>VA cast thing
>Hello, I'm Emiri Kato the voice of Kyuubey
>An outburst of fucking evil sounding laughter from multiple people
My theater was kinda awesome. Anyone else like that cosplay archery contest?
>What's the chance of Kizumonogatari in auckland?
Honestly, I think small as fuck. Mongatari is not popular at all outside of Japan. At least Madoka Magica is very popular among anime fans in the West. Monogatari is too weeb for them.
I seriously fucking hope we get it, though. But I'm not going to have any expectation for getting it; I don't want to be disappointed.
yes, what does AI YO even mean? I'm sorry for my weak nipponease
>Tears apart Madokami and Rapes Coobie
What the hell? Why don't I remember this scene unless you are referring to that dream like sequence scene right after homura pulls in godoka?
That fucking movie with the woman going to NK and trying to make a film?
My friends and I where pissing ourselves.
Kind of wish I could have seen it in theaters, but nowhere near me was screening it. Oh well.
I hope so. I really, really hope so.
possibly even S2 if the universe smiles in our favor
I don't even care if people endlessly say they're milking the series, it's just too good, and they can easily squeeze more out of it without fucking it up because they left it open.
Ai yo means LOVE
Ai YO mean LOVE dude.
AI YO means 'it's love'.
I think maybe you need to re-watch the movie, son.
i'm super jelly right now
Honestly, I see no reason why we won't get another movie, let alone another season.
I went to see it for the head tilts.
I was not disappointed
Funny, everyone laughed at QBs VA in wellington too
What happened at the contest? only two girls turned up in cosplay down here, as MadoHomu
Who /noautographboard/ here
I discussed this with others after the movie and we think their likely to make another season.
This was basically a starting point for season 2.
Yes that scene, she literally teared apart Madoka from Madokami.
I didn't even get one.
Urobuchi said he wants two-cour S2 next. But movie was very successful, so maybe they'll make another one.
They had all the guys/girls cosplaying try and shoot a QB with a bow and arrow. It was neat.
Where Qb asking what kind of shit Homu pulls?
She answered: Its love (ai yo)
Shit was damn hilarious.
>Amerifats get the movie in English
>Canadafags get the movie in English
>Fucking Ausfags get the movie in English
>Europe gets the movie in FRENCH
GOD BLESS ANIPLEX
>Man this was a good movie, glad I came out here even if I was alone. Objectively best girl and I can finally get some fucking closu-
LU-CI-FER LU-CI-FER ALL HAIL OUR LORD SATAN HAS COME
Yeah. No poster either. I saw them giving them out, but I had no money and didn't think they'd be free. After I had sat down in the cinema and realised they were free, I was too scared to stand up and go back out.
Everyone laughed at the QB VA in melb, also. I think it's just a given, considering what she says.
This refreshing your memory at all?
Mines sitting right above me on my shelf. But I can't be bothered taking a new picture.
I guess I'll just continue making everyone mad.
>Homura-chan dame! You're tearing me apart!
>Putting more than one poster of the same kind on your wall
We had four cosplayers in Perth, 3 girls and 1 guy. There was no Homu, though, which was disappointing. The Madoka and Sakura were good, though.
> Anyone else like that cosplay archery contest?
It was bemusing welcome side entertainment (pic related).
There more of us /a/ KiwiAnonymous then you think. A meetup could work.
Anyone else have a bunch of people shout out "FUCK" or "WHAT" at the end of the movie? It was pretty funny when it happened at mine.
Are these posters worth anything? Somehow wound up with 3, which is at least....2 too many.
Woah, Woah, Woah. How'd you get this? I only got the poster
>That doujin where Homura grows dicks on the other girls
Is that a guy?
Limited supply. Wasn't there when I went for the second time.
Oh, shit, judging from your seat position I wasn't far away from you.
Also, fuck some of those people were bad at aiming. Especially the Madoka.
Remember /a/usmeets for Kizu or 4.0
Fuck. Did you get it after the film or before?
I was that guy. I'm not even sorry.
In Adelaide there was one girl cosplaying Madoka. No pics but she was pretty 3.14
Is it ever gonna air here in the states again?
What do you do with the sign board?
I missed it. I really wanted the poster.
So did everyone get your dose of suffering?
Wayyyy before the screening.
Cum on it.
>there will never be another anime as epic as Madoka
Anon calling a girl a pie isn't a nice thing to say.
I had tears in my eyes
But I went with friends so i sucked it up.
Reverse troll, do not reply.
the cosplay in canberra was weird.
we had a couple of madokas, a kamidoka, a mami, and a kyouko as you'd expect.
but we also had a haruhi, no face (who was adorable), a bunch of autistic homestuck characters and ellie from the last of us.
surely if you're going to enter a madoka movie cosplay contest you'd dress as a madoka character?
I got everything I wanted out of the movie.
Mami being happy, Sayaka and Kyouko making up, some great battle scenes, and yes, suffering.
My fucking friends didn't understand that.
Fuck them ;_;
>a bunch of autistic homestuck characters
At a fucking Madoka screening? Please tell me you're shitting me.
No one in Perth did. Or, at least, I didn't hear anyone.
You know how you finish a great series, you feel fine, then a few hours later you feel a mini emotional breakdown.
I think I'm having that now from the movie. Please help me /a/. The movie was so good, why do I feel so sad right now?
Ha ha, fuck Canberra.
Because the movie was a triumph for Homura's selfish obsession.
Sydney confirmed as Capital.
i'm not joking. it blew my mind. only one or two got up for the contest but there was another 3 or 4 all wearing those stupid shirts, hoodies with the long hoodies or horns in the aisle across from me. they were all really noisy and obnoxious.
that wasn't even the worst part though. the haruhi cosplayer was a massive sperg. she gave that "i only wanna talk to aliens blah blah" speech but she did it in a really obnoxious accent copying the western VA and she was really loud and generally retarded.
fucking canberra man. these threads make it seem like i should move to perth.
It was funny how no one else bothered to cosplay and she got the blu-ray set because of it.
Did you see we had a Homura cosplayer too? I'm pretty sure they were the only two who came dressed up. Beats me how the AVCon table gave away three prizes, or if they even did at all
Think about all of the things you enjoyed, and it'll sting less.
H...hold me anon...
The signatures arent personalised are they?
I assume the voice actors signed one and madman printed the scanned signature.
Because Homu is still alone from the beginning till the end.
She dances alone and she even thinks that she will be Madoka's enemy in the future.
Obviously. Only the English VAs came to see the movie.
i imagine so. they look scanned. it's hard to say though.
Fuck I might just DL a camrip to watch it again. It might be some nasty ass quality god i hate myself so much for considering this but the suffering game ridiculous.
Hold out, only 2 months.
I know that feel anon.
Makes you wish you could repeat this day again.
she's satisfied though. from homura's perspective she has won. she has taken all the burden from madoka's shoulders onto herself. and she's found a way to fight against incubator. homura is truly happy at the end of rebellion. being hurt for madoka's sake is what gives her girlboners.
>a bunch of autistic homestuck characters and ellie from the last of us.
That just boggles the mind
I know nothing about Homestuck aside from it being a webcomic right?
And weebs love it or something?
The other thread made me really want to go to a screening but this almost puts me off.
I couldn't stand to be in the same room as aspies like that
Capitalization is important.
I don't watch Madoka cause i'm not a faggot
This is what the camrip looks like. Are you sure?
I couldn't see anything in past the swarm of neckbeards. I wasn't even aware they were giving away BDs here
ellie from the last of us won the fucking contest which is even weirder.
my shift key is broken and i can't be bothered toggling caps.
>that feeling of excitement waiting in line to see the movie
That scene was wierd as fuck
Actually, you sound like a gigantic faggot.
>Meet cool people in line, and never see them ever again after the movie...
But it was so good.
It's just an expansion on the opening bit right? That's apparently how they fight nightmares in Homura's labyrinth. By feeding them in order to turn them into cake. And singing I guess.
It was awesome, though.
>Reset time over and over to help others
>Care about the others Happiness
>Bring her friend back from the Void
>Revive the dead and gives them happy life
>Not getting steam or facebook IDs.
What are you doing anon.
Oh, I thought that it was a completely different word to love cause of the "yo". I didnt really pay much attention to what the voices said at the time since my mind was in a bit of a mind fuck at the time from all the twists.
Oh, so I was right after all.
>I think maybe you need to re-watch the movie, son.
Yes I do especially from the AI YO part onwards since I got so lost since my brain was still processing what was going on from previous scenes. That's the bad thing about watching outside and not at home, you can't pause the movie for a minute and give yourself time to absorb all that information in before continuing again.
Some girl asked why Homu went from shy to not shy in the TV series, obviously not realising that if you repeat something 100s of times you get better at it.
Then my friend asked if she had seen Higurashi and the dude next to her was like, "I wouldn't reccomend Higurashi to anyone blah blah"
>that one tall fat neckbeard that suggested we not bunch up near the stairs in a pretentious tone of voice
Fucking faggot, i bet he felt so alpha after that
My line was shit.
She cares about Madoka's happiness alone. Everything else is just tangential. She'd happily murder the rest of the cast if it meant making Madoka happy.
>too autistic to talk to people in line
>or in the theatre
>or after the movie
>tfw go straight home
>reflect on movie and thigken of life
You f/a/ggots better be there for 4.0 and Kize. I even got a haircut and dressed for this shit. JUST APPROACH ME FUCK I'M NO MEANIE PLS RESPONSe
What did you get?
Who else thought Nagisa was just shoehorned in for an extra character to sell figs for?
I-i would have talked to you anon
I got a haircut and bought a new shirt and shoes in order to look presentable today. I was sure I'd find a chance to strike up some conversation with some people.
I was alone though and everyone seemed to move in groups. I didn't have the courage to speak to anyone.
>standing in line alone while everyone around are talking with their friends
Same here, Anon.
>You f/a/ggots better be there for 4.0 and Kize.
We're having a meetup. At least we are in Perth and Sydney.
> JUST APPROACH ME FUCK I'M NO MEANIE PLS RESPONSe
I have no way to tell, though, and approaching people is scary as fuck, otherwise I would.
They had a BD set for first prize and DVD sets for second and third. No organisation though. I heard the AVCon guys talking to the manager about a cosplay contest as we filed into the theatre but then nothing proper came of it, unlike in the other cities it seems.
How many of you that went to the Sydney screening saw the fat mami? Or the QB in a suit and bow-tie. Jesus fuck, guys.
Kaki was mesmerizingly good.
Well if I held off a year I think I can hold a couple of months.
Did you miss thr point of her not killing Mami? She cares about everyone.
Thank fucking God there was no real line for Perth.
We had a "Hamora" at melb. Though I think she was the only one who actually hand made her costume (Apart from the trap)
That girl was so bad ;_;
The Mami cosplayer was fucking champ at it though
Nagisa literally did not need to be there. Bebe could have stayed as just a projection and it would have affected nothing. So yeah, I'd say she's a cash grab
Oh my god yes. I really feel the need to watch it again.
I just assumed they'd be terrible quality. I avoided all screencaps and madoka threads to leave myself unspoiled.
I love you anon. I want to hug you. I really need a hug right now
I don't like Nagisa's design much either. I'd rather she just stayed as the little bebe witch thing.
AVCon people mentioned it the literally the day before the movie on facebook.
I still don't understand why Mami wasn't dead when they went back to the normal universe. Was her death retconned because of Bebe?
>She'd happily murder the rest of the cast
Don't go there anon.
she didn't kill mami because madoka would be happier with mami around
I'm chronically retarded like that. Moderately extroverted so I can chat people up like a motherfucker, but always forget to get contact details.
Sucks man. A friend has been dragging me to these things for years, So I always try to chat to everyone in a little circle around me in the cinema.
We had a fat Homura down here in Melb. Was sitting next to her...she seemed pretty butthurt about not winning. Very unfriendly.
The stairs weren't even blocked
Yes. Normally Mami died while fighting Bebe/Charlotte, but because of the new Law of Cycles, Nagisa never became that witch
In that universe she didn't die because that universe was the one with the wraiths, not witches. I think
I didn't stick around for the cosplay comp because of work, but holy shit I'd be cringing so much if I did.
Selfish = Only care about yourself
>Homura is Selfish because she doesn't care about herself and only care about Madoka and not killing Mami or Sayaka when she have a chance.
We have an amazing qt Madoka, too bad I was too shy to ask for a pic.
Law of cycles.
Only Sayaka is dead.
Same with Kyouko, because the Witch (Sayaka) that killed her, never turned into a witch, so she didn't die
D-did you go to the wellington screening anon?
I still dont understand how Sayaka is killed? She didnt turn into a witch after rewrite right?
Why didn't Homura just let Madoka take her to magical girl valhalla? Wouldn't they be together there with Sayaka and Nagisa? And eventually the other girls?
Fat Homura actually had a shy qt Mami friend who didn't join the competition so it wasn't too bad I guess.
So how come Sayaka had her Witch form? Was it because she was a witch in the other universe, therefore the Law of Cycles did something blah blah
yeah, Im pretty sure LoC teachs or gives her that shit.
I thought I saw human version of witch Charlotte at the end though. Wouldn't she be dead too if she was supposed to become a witch?
Witches are final forms of magical girls, everyone saved by LoC have access to their witch forms.
Rule of cool probably. It was just so she could go all JJBA with her witch-stand.
Because Sayaka still despaired or something so she would have turned into a witch
(I don't actually remember Sayaka's arc very well, I didn't like her much
Being spoilerfag in the screening felt so good.
>Hey, hey do you know
Not everyone, just Loc's "secretaries".
She just used up all her magic while fighting some tough wraith. Sayaka mentions it in the first scene after the rewrite finishes, where Homura says Madoka's name and the others get confused
That's not how Homura works, she never wished for Madoka to sacrifice herself for everyone.
Her despairing and coobies experimanting on her to lure out Madokami adds up too.
And she has SEVERE self loathing if you have scene her witch barrier and the Clara dolls. She never got her wish to protect Madoka instead she got protected back.
>It replace the message of hope with a much more negative message of selfishly going after what you want.
I never really thought the theme of the TV series to be like that even in it's last episode. I always thought of the show as like a cautionary tale really. That everything isn't just always given to for free, there are consequences involved when you obtain something you desire. I think that's the MAIN thematic concern that the Madoka series tackle. It gave both postive and negative perspectives about obtaining these desires/wishes throughout the series and it's just that in Rebellion it chooses to focus more on the negative spectrum more than contradicting it's own message in my opinion.
In flower field scene Madoka says that she doesn't want to part with her family and friends no matter what. Homura understands that at the end of ep12 Madoka just sacrificed herself again. So she fixes that, covering the universe with her witch barrier, where Madoka can exist and have a normal life.
I like that theory. That way all the girls will get to wind up together again, travelling through the universe working together.
lol get on my level you random.
do that at my theater i will kill u
They are all the same. Gertrud and other witches lended their familiars to Sayaka.
>more than contradicting it's own message in my opinion.
woops, meant to write
>rather than contradicting it's own message from the tv series in my opinion
Did anyone else find Homuras witch form unsettling as fuck?
Something about the symbolism of her faceless form in shackles, dragged by an army of robotic Homu-soldiers freaked me the fuck out.
Yep. Paramount theatre in the Bergman cinema
So doesn't that mean nothing has changed from the beginning of the movie except that Homura is now the devil? Madoka and the others were trapped in Homura's witch labyrinth anyway.
That scene with almost-headless normal homura was the creepiest, even if it was just a couple of seconds
Your'e missing a lot of severe self loathing of Homu.
Her whole presentation was a funeral that never ends.
Even the runes adds up.
And the Clara Dolls who hates her.
I am in the Thomas street, Sydney, come at me m8.
Neat, good to know I wasnt the only one there except my two friends
m-maybe we could m-meet up?
And the fact that Homura doesn't have to keep going back in time seeing Madoka become a witch or dying
Yeh kinda, except there's no labyrinth, Madoka is semi-human and QB fucked off somewhere
presumably that would never happen within Homura's labyrinth though?
>The Nutcracker Witch. Its nature is self-sufficiency. Its gallant form, which once split many nuts, is now useless. Without any other purpose, this witch's last wish is her own execution. However, a mere decapitation will not clear away the witch's sins. This foolish witch will forever remain in this realm, repeating the procession to her execution.
Witch Clara wud yu Dolls.
Wasn't the whole giant purple crystal expanding to envelope the universe Homura turning the whole universe into her labyrinth? Or did I misunderstand that imagery?
I was at the 5pm Sydney.
I was in the back row on the right-most seat.
Reiketsu and Ai but she never came
Thats what I thought as well
I want to hug_ the bottom one
If it's normal world, how MS kill her if her own nature is suicide(kill herself) but still alive.
i want to cuddle the red heads
The bottom one never arrived anon.
Yakimochi can have my love so she isn't jelly again.
It was more like the rebuilding of the Universe, making Homu into a demon and removing Madoka from omnipotent power. From what I remember, she said something along the lines of: "I had to pull her down from the heavens".
I interpreted it as Homu doing what Madoka did at the end of the TV series, but she's evil and can interfere with the real world
I think the movie started a little slow (the voice actor introduction part didn't really help, nor did having an full OP sequence) but from the first time we see Homura's point of view onwards where she sees every person in the world as a faceless abomination it was pretty damned good.
>Gertrud and other witches
If Madoka teased her, she would come right away.
I interpreted that she was just extending her influence or something. Like a cocoon, while she reshaped everything. Then the new universe follows her laws but isn't strictly speaking inside of a labyrinth
I like how it's Akuma Homura instead of Akemi Homura
I realized this while watching, when got out of her "egg", her hands were chained and moving toward the guillotine, henced the "suicide witch". She wanted to kill herself while in her soulgem. But while moving she still didnt want die, pic related.
i think it was supposed to start a bit slow. it was meant to seem like the initial episodes of the tv series again. but as homura slowly realises that something is afoot everything gets creepier and creepier.
WAT IS GOING ON
Hahah, yeah, pretty great...
[spoilers]There's a pun here or something, right? I don't get it[/spoilers]
That's part of the "Everything is so peaceful but this is Madokaverse. The happiest you are the more you fall."
And the whole movie was what Homura visioned things should have been, until she knew that the truth was SHE was the Withc.
Akuma = Devil
She just a super power witch that extend her barrier into entire universe.
There are those circles, which appear only in her labyrinth. Also a shot of vinyl recorder.
Yeah, I think it will work better on rewatch. Plus a bunch of it was honestly just fanservice - all the girls working as a full team, the new transformations, etc. And that's cool too.
>Super power witch
She's not even Coobie asks her what the hell has she become.
No longer a Magical girl not even a witch, she opposes God.
She's setting herself up as a villain and Madoka would not be happy about that once she become one with Madokami.
Sorry I'm not a local. I was visiting a few friends then saw this was on and draged my friend along
So. Who was best dancer?
Sayaka nailed it with her breakdance!
I enjoyed Kyouko's dancing the most, although Sayaka breakdancing was pretty funny.
Here's my take on it. I find it helps sometimes to transform rules and laws into computer science concepts.
- The human race is a network topology
- Humans are "clients"
- Magical girls are "servers"
During the pre-madokami era, a server with vulnerabilities would eventually get exploited and turn into a witch ("malicious server"). At some point, influential hacker Madoka wrote a prolific virus that isolates vulnerable servers and puts them in the Madokami botnet.
Homura's server started showing vunerabilities, which the QB security agency noticed and put her server under quarantine. Meanwhile, red-hat Homura was off developing a virtualisation software. Realising that something was off with her server, she decided to investigate by running antivirus checks which initially flagged bebe.exe and sayaka.exe as a threat.
She discovered that these were some of the symptoms of a Madokami botnet computer but her server not compromised yet since her server was already externally under QB's quarantine system. As this was a rare chance to examine how the virus worked, she decompiled the Madokami virus, edited the code and injected her virtualisation software into it, eventually changing it so much that it escapes the quarantine system.
The new virus proliferates even more widely due to its changed nature putting the entire network under its influence, overriding the Madokami virus. However, instead of simply isolating the systems, it puts the compromised system under visualization software making the system think that everything is OK. Now Homura owns the entire network and can do pretty much anything she wants.
>watching shit about little girls
Jesus you guys are so pleb
Kyoko and Sayaka, definitely
If there is a 2nd season, this film being the "prelude" to it actually sounds perfectly done and feels a lot more natural
Too bad we wont have this. They have same VA.
I'm very impressed. However, I understood the movie fairly well and this explanation is confusing to me because I know less about computer science than I do about magical girls
Hopefully someone else takes away something from your analogy though
Nah, she was talking about how to behave in the cinema.
No, will have those in the BD with Homu humming Mada Dame yo while dancing on Kyuubeys suffering form that was cut out from the film.
We didn't have this at Perth, what was it? I saw it mentioned in the last thread, too.
So madoka is definitely not a god anymore, at least at the point the movie ended
Yeah, basically for nips theaters only. Monogatari characters watching madoka.
She is, it just that she is brainwashed.
Pretty much what that anon said. Some creature introducing herself as from the Monogatari series and giving a primer about how to behave. Turn of your cell phone, buy popcorn, pay attention to Shingen's cavalry, obvious things like that.
Fuck, that's awesome. I liked the thing we had with the VAs, though. I thought it was pretty cool, too.
Madokami is somewhere might be inside Akuma Homura's Soul Orb or she's trying to get back to her Madoka form.
Shaft re-uses VA from time to time. Does anyone have the Shaft-VA char?
Yeah. I like it, though.
To people who might be familiar with these things, I was wondering.
In Homura's little dance in her transformation sequence, is the dance anything to do with the Nutcracker ballet?
I like that might-be-chibi style.
I was disappointed Homu only used guns instead of guile and explosives with her fight with Mami.
Her strategy with the explosives was always to place them with her timestop and then detonate them from a safe distance.
In the fight with Mami, she didn't have her timestop to rely on. Initially she couldn't get close enough to use explosives, and late ron she probably wouldn't have been able to get away in time without also allowing Mami to escape.
It wouldn't have been as interesting visually. Although Mamis power level seems really inconsistent
It just occurs to me that we don't even see a second of what Homura had become in the final scenes of the series, nor any of the battle against the Wraiths.
I'm more disappointed I never got more Bowmura.
My friend was really bummed that we didn't get to see a single wraith, or any idea of how they're fought. I'm a little bothered as well
How did the qb's race isolate homura's gem when we saw her "dying" at the end of the series? How would they be able to?
Even though I didn't understand everything, and that it may just be a cash grab, Shaft really outdid themselves.
This was easily one of the best looking, and best animated films I've seen in cinemas in a while. Better than Ghibli.
Depends on your interpretation, but there is a lot of Nutcracker themes to Homu.
Her witch and the Clara dolls.
happy for all you az/nz fans who got to see this in the theater.
Nothing is more fun then going to a theater and watching the fans reaction to this movie. They go in for the moe cute girls and leave shell shocked struggling to understand what this movie did to them personally.
It's not a mindfuck like EoE but it certainly hits deep on an emotional level for most people.
The fan base is split because of this movie and in a good way.
Hey straya cunts did you get signboards?
Some of us, Yes.
Yeah, that kind of bothered me too.
Only if you rocked up 2-3 hours before the screening
I know, that's why I asked. I don't know anything about the dance styles used, but I figured it would be logical if they were from the Nutcracker.
From what I could tell, just by the people around me talking about the series, they all knew exactly what they were in for.
No. I didn't get a fucking God damn poster either. I'm still pissed.
This, in the most surreal scenes, the attention to deal and the pure atmosphere from that world is astounding
Got three I'll never use. Sucks bro.
fucking qb magic. it's a plot device there's no solid science behind shit like that.
Send me one, you slut.
I turned up 45 minutes before screening and got poster and signboard.
A good day to be in perth.
They're a bunch of super advanced aliens, it figures they could do whatever.
b...but then what will I roll up and use as a swords?
P-please, no. The thought of you doing that is painful.
yeah exactly. there's no reason to stop and explain it'd hurt the movies pacing. all that exposition from qb while homura was getting witchy was almost too much as is.
In all seriousness even if you wanted one how the fuck would I get it to you anon?
The OP, MamixHomu fight scene, all the labyrinth scenes gave me shivers. They were amazing
They were also selling these books on the Madoka series separately for $15 in Adelaide, Anyone get that. I rocked up 2 hours early and saw the last one getting sold
Mail? I don't know, to be honest. It'd probably cost money, so I doubt you would do it, and I would expect that of someone.
Don't exaggerate Anon. I was there at 12.30 and they had several left
Well, it's simpler than that. Mami just couldn't be timestopped because they were linked by her ribbon.
Well yes, that's the long version of 'she didn't have her timestop to rely on'.
Y'know what? r/a/ndom act of kindness time.
Give me a way of contacting you and and I'll actually mail one out. Not even fucking with you.
I got my poster at 12:30 and right after saw the Madoka cosplayer getting the last copy. Maybe my phone time is just fucked. anyone post somen pic's if you have it
That'd be awesome. You can add me in Skype or on Steam, if you want?
In the mail field, first is Steam, second is Skype.
Anyone interested in a Godoka signboard? I'll take any board that contains homu.
I got one, I was only 90 mins early. I know they were definitely sold out 1 hour before the screening though.
Think I added you on skype. I'm headed off now. We'll figure this out tomorrow aight?
anyone wanna swapsies for a mami/nagisa board? i'm interested in literally any other board
Oh, sorry, it was with an 8 at the end. You've added the wrong person. Sorry.
good luck with that, that's literally the least desirable board, especially around here
pls straya pls
I will spam yours...
there's gotta be a mami fag on here somewhere butthurt that he got a homu board
I never use either since I don't play games and have no friends, so if you really want to be a dick it doesn't matter all that much.
I didn't get a board at all and would really like a Mami one.
mami board is better than no board i'm afraid
was at the 5pm as well.
lol'd when the girl yelled out "that's what you get, Kyuubii"
fuck that cat.
Haha yes. The total lack of anybody saying anything dumb out loud made that totally ok at the end.
Oh well. I don't blame you for not wanting to give it up.
I did, but kept it subdued in fear of being greentexted on /a/
You should've, man.
There can only be one one, anon.
that's wonderful. i'd love to see a screening of a movie like rebellion in Japan one day.
That's hilarious. I'd be really interested to see how your regular Japanese person who watched Madoka in the cinemas would've thought watching it in America / Australia with us. The clapping at the start of the movie, the "WHAT THE FUCK?!"s during the movie, the "fuck you QB!", etc. Seriously, it's probably completely different to the way people in Japan acted while watching it.
It really makes you want to learn moon, doesn't it?
>STILL no London screenings
It's great because the director thought it was really odd seeing how Japan hates QB, but America sorta loves him because how much of an asshole he is.
it does. it makes me feel guilty. i've downloaded all these PDFs of textbooks and bookmarked all these youtube channels and all this other shit. i have the means to learn the language but i still haven't made time to do so. i really should.
western audiences seem to love a good villain. see how disproportionately popular loki is in the avengers. or western nerd cultures general obsession with famous villains like darth vader, boba fett, etc.
i don't know what that says about our appreciation of fiction but we seem to be better equipped to appreciate a character despite moral direction that runs counter to our own than cultures like the elevens.
Urobutcher said he never intended any of the characters to sell figures. If it was it was a weak attempt because the character wasn't really that interesting or cute or anything.
I remember him saying that, yeah.
This. Westerners absolutely love good villains.
I've done the same thing. Finally started the other day, but like with everything, I can't focus on it. I really, really want to learn it, though; I just can't sit down and actually do it.
>i still haven't made time to do so.
My problem would be sacrificing time to watch anime to learn Japanese. And if you're not consistently studying it, it takes much longer. So for the next year+ at least, I'd be watching a lot less anime.
i mean i can appreciate what they were going for. i guess it was to stress the implication of what has happened to post-witch magical girls since kamidoka sacrificed herself. her 'secretaries' are able freely use both their magical girl powers and witch powers to further madoka's purpose.
still i wish they'd reconsidered her design. the main 5 girls are wonderfully designed and all very memorable. nagisa is very eehhh. she reminds me of a boring version of konayuki.
that seems to be my problem as well. i work part time, play my bass and watch anime and play games. for someone with motivation as poor as mine that's a lot of shit to be doing. realistically i could easily cut some of my gaming and 4chan time down to incorporate learning a language but shit like that, and watching anime, is relaxing. something like playing bass or learning a language is hard. and my up-until-recently-neet brain can't handle hard.
I liked the look of Charlotte's magical girl design from the series a bit more, honestly.
i'm the same way. that wasn't ideal either though. if they were really trying to add another magical girl into the quintet they needed to try harder.
Didn't the monogatari intros in Japan specifically tell you that popcorn is essential to watching movies?
Eh, Nagisa was basically shallow fanservice with little effort involved.
I mean, I loved having a new magical girl, and I loved Charlotte, but it was all a bit... eh.
I don't feel they actually added her to the main group of girls though.
She's something different and I didn't have much of a problem with it. I just liked the Bebe/Charlotte aspect more because the character design was definitely lacking.
so assuming we get a second cour you don't think nagisa will feature in it?
Feature? Maybe. Play a truly prominent part? Probably not.
>Nakazawa was trapped in Homulilly's barrier
I don't know why this amuses me so much.
Sounds like she's where she belongs
I felt a little bad that Madoka's family were trapped inside. But I guess there's no real distinction between the labyrinth and reality now that Homura has made her labyrinth real with crazy demon powers.
I actually didn't even notice that until you just pointed it out.
It's not that she made her labyrinth real; she entirely re-wrote reality like Madoka did at the end of the TV series.
but the new reality she created is effectively the labyrinth she trapped everyone in anyway isn't it? the only difference being that madoka is the transfer student this time.
Not really... Homura's labyrinth was just Mitakihara, the new reality seems to be the whole universe changed.
Her aged bride wanted to be with him.
>Homura sits next to Nakazawa
>Nakazawa is the first classmate whose name she learned
>Homura brings Nakazawa into her barrier
Nakazawa confirmed for Homura's hetero crush during her bi-curious phase.
>Nakazawa is the first classmate whose name she learned
What? where did this come from?
Presumably she heard the HAI, NAKAZAWA-KUN from outside the classroom.
When Saotome said "Okay, your seat is next to Nakazawa-kun's"
Because her witch barrier sucked all universe now.
I'm still not convinced that's actually what happened, but I guess it makes no real difference in practical terms.
Of course, Homura moved to the Seat of God in the back next to the window.
To get away from Nakazawa?
God damnit. Of course I only find out about this less than 12 hours afterwards. And of course Brisbane won't ever get another showing.
I'm such a fucking idiot.
Closer to her protagonist of course. Homura is OP stronk plz nerf so she has to hand over the spotlight.
Man, their classrooms look way too much like prison cells.
only 2 months till the bluray drops anon
Maybe it's more like the universe was merged with her witch-demon barrier. New world looks really weird and creepy.
Is Ararararararagi a meguca?
Kyoko looks damn fine in a uniform.
>Alright, Nonaka Ai, tell us about Kyoko's role in the new movie
>Well, she wears a school uniform for the first time, so please look forward to it.
I laughed at first, but then soon realised that that was really the only thing going for Kyoko this movie.
I still wish I could have watched it on the big screen with the rest of you losers.
I'm torn on whether it's less of a protagonist window seat considering the entire classroom is transparent
I thought her friendship with Sayaka getting to play out properly is kind of an important deal
That was more of a Sayaka-sided thing. Kyoko had already sorted out her feelings for Sayaka in the series, and their friendship in the movie was just Sayaka's response and Kyoko accepting it and moving on.
Kyoko's entire role in the movie can be summed up:
>I don't know what the HELL is going on
Haha, in fairness, everyone takes a back seat to Homura in this film. Shinbo even noted that he, who usually lets Urobuchi's scripting be quite free, totally intervened because Madoka had next to no lines at first.
That said, the girls all do great job at shining in their own ways.
Haha, what was that one line again? I feel like it was Kitamura introducing Ai as playing Kyouko, Sayaka's partner.
Stop saying god is dead
Does anyone have the full thing, I lost it
I know I can kill
Does truth exist beyond the gate?
I wasn't making a reference, I want to know where the full image of that was
Here's to you Austrailia.
When you think on it, it's completely natural.
Sayaka got her story within the series.
Kyouko & Mami got theirs within The Different Story.
Madoka overall got her story in the series.
So Rebellion was just Homura's turn.
>inb4 series was about Homu
No, it was about Madoka. Episode 10 was the Homu-centric background to give us an in on why she was such a creepy stalking basketcase.
Can we all agree that Sayaka with her emo downfall removed is the best girl
Now... I've lost it
take it off
TAKE IT OOOOFFF
I feel a tightness in my chest. This is just cruel
If any of you Perth cunts are still awake, was it one of you that yelled "mangos" when the women presenter asked "what is anime"?
>I was wondering if you'd been hired by weider in jelly
That was pretty funny but I spent the first half trying to figure out if it was right-to-left or left-to-right
>The Big D
this little nutrition-jelly packet
I think that was either me or one of my friends. I remember yelling out 'skrillex' at something at least.
>your country will never have an airing
It's like you don't even know true suffering
What country? I'm pretty surprised Perth had one, to be honest. We generally don't get much.
It's pretty much a Catch-22 of suffering, anon.
I heard that guy.
Sweden. I doubt we'll get anything, ever, and if we did it would be in Stockholm which is like 6 hours by train from here. On the other hand if Denmark had a showing I could be there within the hour...
Denmark, please save me.
All the European showings are in French.
>clapping at start of the movie
what? americunt here, that doesn't happen.
I thought it was airing all over Europe, just in French.
I don't get why in French. I know anime is actually pretty popular in France, but why not English, since it's more of a universal language than French?
Happened in Perth. According to other Australians, Kiwis, and Americans, it happened to them, too.
Your cinema may have been an exception.
In Sydney, half the people left BEFORE the credits ended, meaning they never saw the last scene.
Holy shit, did you guys JUST get the movie over there?
2nd/3rd is protag seat
4th is god seat.
see homura here and haruhi
A lot of people in Perth did that, too. Mostly the little girls who were probably all casual as fuck.
I didn't know there was anything after the credits because I've been avoiding anything that might have had a spoiler.
Even still, why would've you have stayed to listen to the ED?
>I've never seen a film before in my entire life
I've heard some American theater cut the movie before the end of credits. Seems didn't happen in Australia
You mean why WOULDN'T you have, right?
Fuck, yeah. Sorry.
They cut it short at the premiere in San Francisco. But then again, that showing did a lot of unforgivable things. Like only giving out Madokami boards and a hand full of Homu boards, substituting the rest with plastic state farm cups.
Luckily I was with the /a/ meet up and we were the first people in line.
