>Studio Ghibli just announced its first ever TV series, and even more exciting it’s an adaptation of a book by Astrid Lindgren. “Sanzoku no Musume Ronja”, or “Ronja the Robber’s Daughter”, will be aired in Japan starting on August 31. It is a coproduction with 3DCG studio Polygon Pictures (known for animating some of Ghost in the Shell, among others), to be directed by Goro Miyazaki. More details are forthcoming.

Well then...

Studio Ghibli Anime?

Ghibli is making a TV anime just like they made a video game.

Welp.

Anyone who's got the urge to watch this, do yourself a favor and just pick up Romeo no Aoi Sora instead.

I have a feeling Hayao's comments today are a direct result of this.
>>
well... ghibli was dead since terramar
this is like goro raping a dead body.

I laughed.

I almost feel bad for him. It must be tough being such a stubborn fuckup and have your genius dad blast you to the press for your shamefur disprays.

Looks like Ghibli wants to help Madhouse save anime.
>>
>>101298193
>Goro Miyazaki

Is it still cool to hate Goro?

Poppy Hill was good and Earthsea wasn't honestly that bad for a directorial debut from someone who had very little expertise in the animation field.
>>
>>101298003
So it's going to be the exact same plot they've been rehashing for the last 15 years right?
>>
>>101298794

Not with garbage like Mahou Sensou.
>>

>Poppy Hill was good

No.

I wasn't initially on the Goro hatetrain, but that movie was so bad it put me there.
>>
>>101298003
Normalfags in Japan will watch this, but they don't buy dvds and bds, so it will be a flop despite being popular

I'm hyped.
>>
>Ghibli will never be a full OVA adaption of the Naussica manga
>>
>>101298898
It's being funded by NHK (tax-payers).

It doesn't matter if it flops.
>>
>>101298882
I don't mind the occasional crap as long as they continue making stuff like Tatami Galaxy or Chihayafuru.
>>
An anime (by Ghibli) that has significant potential. Typical of /a/, they've already divined a reason to boycott it, like they do everything good.

Earthsea may have been shit, but if you didn't like Poppy Hill, go fuck yourself.

>>
>>101299006
It won't flop. It's Ghibli.

Plus I imagine it to be a big success in yurop.
>>
>>101299042
The reason people don't like the sound of it is the director. Thats a pretty fucking big reason. Also most fuckers here pick up next to everything that comes out every season anyway.
>>
>>101298892
How was it bad?
>>
>>101299042
yeah, but Earthsea was directed by Goro. That should tell you something, friend.
>>
>>101299042
It's not by Ghibli, it's by Polygon Pictures.
>>
>>101298882
Madhouse doesn't give a shit about Mahou Shitsou, just look at how many QUALITY it's in the fucking show
>>
>>101298003
I suppose Miyazaki is really retiring after this. He hated CG so if he stays in Ghibli he would be contradicting himself.
>>

>>
>>101299466
It´s just a game so i suppose he didnt care so much.
>>
>>101299423
It's the future. He can't stop it. Sooner or later they had to start doing CGI.

They should make a movie about an old man fighting the future and technology.
>>
>>101299466
that video games aren't art like his animations are
>>
>>101299197
Pacing was awful. The progression of the I-love-you-oh-no-we're-related-oh-wait-we're-not-happy-end developments was so ill-timed and devoid of emotion that it totally ruined what could have been a great setup for dramatic tension by blowing the secret halfway through and in a supremely uninteresting way.
Characters had weak or no development. Umi is a total cypher. Shun is a watered-down version of the love interest in Whisper of the Heart. Even the nameless Quartier Latin guys are way more interesting.
No cinematographer's eye. Dull, uninteresting angles on everything, even where there should be an exciting cityscape or a dramatic view of the sea.
Soundtrack: not Hisaishi/10.

The Quartier Latin scenes were seriously the only enjoyable part. The movie's time would have much better been spent on them rather than boredom trip to Tokyo and all the dramatic handwringing about "muh fammleeeee".

It's not shit, it's a big ball of wasted potential, and that is somehow even worse.
>>
>>101299620
Replace old man with girl raised by wolves, and you've pretty much got Princess Mononoke.
>>
Ghibli's involvement in this project will likely be limited to background art/art direction and nothing more. Crediting it to Ghibli is stupid.
>>
>>101299573
It's okay except for the frustratingly retarded party AI.
>>
>>101299573
No, but the battle system is sort of meh. Can't comment on it entirely, since I only just got my second party member.

It's sort of like real-time pokemon, in that you capture evolvable monsters from generic mobs as your primary fighters.
>>
>>101299703
Speaking of Hisaishi.

I recently saw Departures (Okuribito). Such a great movie.

I need to see that. Dear Doctor, which was IIRC by the same guy, was unexpectedly good and quite funny.

Meh.

I don't usually dislike their works, but I don't feel any particular attachment towards any of them, either.
>>
>>101300050

Meh. Madhouse has literal mountains of shit under their belt that they never cared about. For every Madhouse gem, there's about 10 pieces of shit that they used to fund it.
