This is the first time that I'm genuinely excited for a VN.
For a second there, I thought her leg on the left was twisted.
>Two best girl Iwasawa and Yui route in the first volume
Volume 1 confirmed for GOTY?
I hope we get to date Yui
What's up with her right leg?
Man, this art is great. Who's doing it? The eyes aren't buggy enough for Key. Or is it the LB! artist?
I hate to say I know it, but I'm pretty sure that's from the episode that Otonashi gets his first memories back and he tells Angel his full name.
It's the LB! main artist Na-Ga.
Hinoue was busy blowing her load on Rewrite before this.
>The character designer is Na-Ga, but he will supervise the artwork over a few other CG artists. Na-Ga himself may be in charge of the art for a few characters.
Fucking Key and their sameface
That, my friend, is the power of optical illusion.
Thank you, based Na-ga.
Thank you, based Key.
We need to assemble a team to get this translated. It needs to be done at MGQ-speed, if not faster.
>We need to assemble a team to get this translated. It needs to be done at MGQ-speed, if not faster.
Agreed. I need this in my life.
Are we TK yet?
We Little Busters now
>Iwasawa on Volume 1
Source? If so I'm hyped beyond belief as Iwasawa is my favorite Key girl, and my only complaint is that she didn't get enough screen time.
The current plan is 6 volumes total. All members of the SSS will appear in volume 1, and it will comprise episodes 1 – 9 of the anime. That will be the common route and after that, 3 character routes.
We plan to release volumes 2 and on at half-year intervals.
We want to completely finish volume 1 first and use that as a basis, then release volumes 2 and on at fixed intervals as cheaply as we can.
Volume 1 will be the largest. If you install volumes 2 and up on the same PC, certain character dialogues from volume 1 will change.
Volume 1 alone looks like it’ll have more CGs than all of Clannad.
In addition to the common route, volume 1 will tell Iwasawa, Yui, and Matsushita’s stories. Iwasawa and Yui are both popular, so they’re a given. Matsushita’s character has a certain “gimmick”, so we made him the only selectable male character to make volume 1 a little more interesting.
All the male and female SSS members will have routes.
We’ll slowly include male characters throughout the first half, or else the latter half will become a sausage fest.
The heroines will not necessarily be intimate with Otonashi.
No one’s looking forward to OtonashixYui romance, right?
President Baba rejected having mini-games at first, but somehow we got permission to put them in.
AB! is the most RPG-like work among Key games, so we wanted to make it as an RPG at first. But that would have taken 10 years to complete.
The character designer is Na-Ga, but he will supervise the artwork over a few other CG artists. Na-Ga himself may be in charge of the art for a few characters.
The scenario writers are Maeda Jun, Kai, and Kashida Leo.
We’re using a method we’ve never used before. Maeda will touch up the scenarios written by the other two writers. Rather than saying he’s the supervisor, it’s more like a joint work with him at the lead.
The music will be from the anime.
The TV anime’s ED, Brave Song, is written from Yuri’s point of view, so the game will have a new ED.
If we had more time we would have liked to release a new album by Iwasawa along with the game, but our schedule is jam-packed even into the weekends right now so that’d be tough.
The game will be fully voiced with the same seiyuu from the anime.
During the auditions for the anime, we told the seiyuu that it was a “work with a game adaptation in mind.”
Otonashi will not be fully voiced. He will only be voiced when the story changes perspective to another character.
>more cg than all of Clannad
My dick, I'm even more hyped.
Of course, depending on the choices you make in the game, the story will diverge from the anime’s story.
For example, the scene where everyone descends down to Guild in episode 2 – you can choose to get Otonashi caught in a trap and drop out, and then when he wakes up the next day the Guild is gone all of a sudden.
Of course you can still continue the game after that and reach an ending.
Clannad had several minor scene branches, but AB! will take that even further.
We don’t like choices that have no meaning (no effect on the story branching), so every choice will result in some sort of branch or scene variation.
At the beginning of the game, Otonashi’s tastes are plain. But depending on your choices, Otonashi can become a homo who crushes on Hinata or Noda, a yuri-lover, or incredibly idiotic.
The other members will have unique reactions to each of Otonashi’s personalities.
They won’t be in the first volume, but we plan to have original characters designed by Na-Ga appear later. They will support Otonashi in his efforts to make the other members graduate from the afterworld.
As a “visual novel by Maeda Jun”, this can be considered his posthumous work.
I'm looking forward to OtionashixYui romance just to see how it works.
There's a good chance this could be their best work. If at least it has the best VN features out of all of them.
I agree. This VN seems huge
You think we'll get translations within a 6-month period of release?
I can't sleep at night because I'm thinking of playing this.
Holy shit I am hyped.
>You think we'll get translations within a 6-month period of release?
Not a chance in hell.
I doubt it, but I'm sure there will be a team day one working their asses off.
No idea. If we're lucky and we get a dedicated translator, judging by the size of the game it could take more than a year for a full translation.
Which angel would you beat?
With a bat
Well I assume volume one will take about a year since it will be the biggest but I can honestly see it being done if every other chapter had the length of a single characters route
>No one’s looking forward to OtonashixYui romance, right?
This is what I'm worried about. I don't want this at all. Yui X Hinata only, please.
Do we have a release date for volume 1 yet?
but will there be Key magic?
Fuck you could 've put up a fucking spoiler god fucking damnit i didn't know she could play the guitar.
No fucking point. no fucking point in playing anything anymore.
Not yet. There are 5 more games for that. The true route is going to be ridiculous.
Can you expect anything different from Maeda? I feel that Track Zero is better than the main show.
>The potential the anime had can finally be realized.
Minimum System Requirements
Operating System: Windows 8/7/Vista/XP (Japanese version)
Hard Drive Space: Undecided
GPU: DirectX 9 graphics card with 256MB VRAM (512MB recommended)
CPU: intel Core 2 Duo (intel Core i3 recommended)
RAM: 1GB (2GB recommended)
so are we gonna have to wait until 2017 for the last one?
I honestly don't know what JAST and Mangagamer are playing at. If I were them I'd have a deal with Key to release this at most a month after the release in English. They'd make so much cash.
It's a VN, you can run them on toasters.
>Kai, and Kashida Leo.
Any info on these two?
I'd buy every copy if they were released in English.
>implying it'll be subbed quick
I'm still fucking waiting on EX.
>Clannad had several minor scene branches, but AB! will take that even further.
>We don’t like choices that have no meaning (no effect on the story branching), so every choice will result in some sort of branch or scene variation.
So no common route then? Good.
>Doing anything correctly
Apparently the reason for the Steins;Gate delay is because they messed up the logistics or something.
>Two additional writers include Kai, who previously contributed on the scenario of Clannad, and Leo Kashida, who had worked on the scenario of Tomoyo After: It's a Wonderful Life and Little Busters!.
>implying everyone needs them translated
>messed up the logistics or something
What does that even mean?
I'm also still pissed that got delayed.
Leo Kashida wrote Mio route.
Is MC really gonna do it with Yui? I'd imagine that'd rub people the wrong way.
Not sure, that's all I know. Probably something like messing up the number of physical releases or something.
Somebody hasn't played a post-2010 VN.
>who had worked on the scenario of Tomoyo After: It's a Wonderful Life and Little Busters!
If only publishers brought more VNs to the West.
I wonder if this will actually save the fucking shamble that was Angel Beats.
That show had so much promise. The first half was really fun and inventive. Then the stupid shadow shit happened and it all went downhill.
Yeah, because VNs are moving to consoles now...
I'll never get to read Chaos;Head Noah...
>Angel Beats OP2
Buy the localized VNs now, at least if you like them. I've bought Saya and Steins;Gate now. Showing publishers that there's the market will only help.
How's the Saya official translation?
Yeah I bought S;G. Dat push back date.
It's identical to the unofficial one. They just bought the translation off the fan translators.
>MG has yet to update any news about KNS2
Have you seen the shit mangagamer releases? Why can't they get real VNs like Eustia and WA2 and the Grisaia series?
It's cleaned up, just like Steins;Gate. It's worth the money even for the small box.
This is the most exciting piece of news I've read on /a/ in a very, very long time.
Still, by the size of this, it will take forever to translate. Getting a team to do this might just be the only way we'll ever play this.
I want to see TK's past.
Just fucking learn Japanese you homo.
With Steins;Gate, it sounds like Winkel basically redid the entire translation to make it flow better, along with fixing any errors of course.
Makes me sad just looking at it
And that is why you learn Japanese, dude.
I really don't understand the love for Grisaia. Its pretty boring and the H-scenes are not that great.
Easier said then done.
They also have picked some good VNs. I'm hyped for KnS 2 and the other thing by Innocent Grey, can't remember it's name.
Any retard can learn Japanese. Especially NEET. If you start today you'll be good enough to read the Angel Beats VN with a kanji reader.
Does best boy get a route?
Wasn't Ever17 released in English years ago or something?
It was, but the company went under. I'd kill for a copy but they're very pricey. Wonder if someone could buy the rights, then fix up the errors and rerelease it.
The physical copy is pretty rare now. People want $500+ just for a used copy. I want it badly.
How would you guys feel about VNs on Steam? They would have to be clean, of course.
Yeah, I know Higurashi is already getting on (eventually, at least).
>New Angel Beats
>its a fucking VN
Why cant we get a proper s2 or a 24 eps reboot, as it should have been in the first place??
This series could have been a masterpiece if it had more time to develop things properly.
>This series could have been a masterpiece if it had more time to develop things properly.
...That's exactly what they're doing.
I remember hearing some guy who use to work for the company had some copies and were selling them for $70 a piece. I'm 99% sure he's out since this was almost a year ago.
Haven't gotten around to Ever17, but how is the fan translation?
No, its a shit VN.
I would buy the hell out of them.
Right now, the only way I can think of to buy a VN is to have it shipped. Steam would be far easier.
Jast has everything available for download.
Maybe if the VN sells well they can make a reboot
What? She plays a guitar in the anime.
I need physicals.
Oh yeah I'm sure it took him less than a day or two to sell them all.
There is no fan translation for Ever17. Why would there be?
It's actually the official translation, just apply the fanpatch that fixes typos and a spoiler. It's a great translation too.
I would greatly prefer physical copies, but if push comes to shove I'll buy them on steam in brief hope they release a physical or pick up something that wouldn't be translated otherwise.
Ah, so it's just the official translation ripped?
Angel Beats should have been a VN in the first place. The anime feels like a DEEN-tastic adaptation.
The VN is a good thing
Leave it to fucking JAST to delay a game that was basically done. Blick had the entire game translated before JAST even talked about licensing it.
The Common Route was gold and long as fuck and had me laughing the whole way through.
The rest was pure boring shit.
Kinda, the translation they put out was very much a speed translation to go with the anime ending. I don't believe they ever intended it to ever be the final release.
I think it would cost too much. I can't really think of any big name VN that has been licensed in the west. I know steins;gate was a popular VN but when compared to Key VNs its small time.
They're busy retranslating Higurashi.
>Rated for all ages
What's even the point? My enthusiasm is officially dead.
The iOS version of Planetarian is actually available for sale in English, although there are multiple translation errors.
Trust me, you don't want Key H scenes. There will be plenty of lewd since it's All Ages.
I want a TK route.
I need to buy that, even if I don't own an apple product. I just wanna tell Key I want more of their stuff overseas.
How bad are the translation errors?
>wanting KEY sex
Yeah, about that.
There will be one.
What if Otonashi's sister or god/whoever created the world gets a route?
What the fuck??? VN's are fucking horrible shit where you just read and read shit text and can fuck all the girls and shit. There's no story, no passion, no nothing memorable.
The anime was amazing, fun as fuck, and had plenty of powerful moments. The whole organ donor propaganda was a bit over the top, but things like the ep where the guitar girl dies, or the backstory for the pink haired girl... great fucking series.
Someone did not play the LB! VN before watching the anime.
Or play the LB! VN at all for that matter.
You have the worst opinion on 4chan right now.
>They'd make so much cash.
Yeah, from the two or three hundred dedicated buyers in the West. So much cash.
Yes, I know they'd sell more than three hundred, but how much more than that? A thousand? Five thousand? That's not so much cash when you have to set up a professional chain of workers to work very long hours to finish the product.
This must be one of those famous "trolls" I've heard so much about.
Just need good advertising, and getting on Steam would really help with that. You have any idea how many Clannad fans there are?
>salivating all over the mediocre Angel Beats anime
Go back to reddit.
>A thousand? Five thousand?
That's a fucking windfall for the official VN industry.
This isn't some shitty nukige VN. Angel Beats is going to sell well in Japan, the few Westerners who would buy it instead of pirating it wouldn't make much of a difference to their bottom line.
>two or three hundred
I'm sure the fact it's has the name "Angel Beat" will give it more sales. Angel Beats is very popular with the anime community.
There is no H planned for this at all right? I thought I remember reading something about two releases. I really don't want to see anyone get sexed up
There's some suggestive scenes but no H, unfortunately.
>I really don't want to see anyone get sexed up
Where do you think you are?
As much as I dislike Key H-scenes(Kanon I am looking at you), it's nice to have an 18+ release.
Hm, I guess I could probably fap to this, but they're gonna have to motivate me.
Am I on /a/? Let me check. Oh yeah, this is /a/. I thought I was in /o/, /an/ or something for a minute.
>Angel Beats is very popular with the anime community.
And you're telling me more than a handicapped handful of the people in this "anime community" would buy a $50 piece of software that happens to be a "Visual novel, something like, you click and you read text" just because it says "Angel Beats" on the title?
Sorry, but I'm not convinced, man.
Don't underestimate people, I'm sure Steins;Gate sold more than 500 and that's about as popular Angel Beats.
I wonder if JAST will give us rough estimates on the sales.
Why is that? Do you feel it adds to the story?
She accidentally tripped and fell. It's not as lewd as it appears
Do you think she's always not wearing a bra so that in a desperate situation she can flash her tits as an emergency 'diversion'?
What a slut, she's not even wearing a bra!
I don't like the H scenes that much, but it feels wrong not to have them.
no, it's pretty lewd
Well they are the main reason people play VNs at all.
That's wrong outside of Nukagi (might have the term wrong)
If anyone wants to read the LN and other side stories, it's all there.
Perhaps, but they still make an effort to make stories with substance, so story-driven plots are still popular, at least.
The porn is just a cherry on top.
It will probably take me less time to learn Japanese than this will take to get translated
Maybe a decade ago before F/SN came out and they recognized that there's an industry for people who just want to read a story.
There'll definitely be sub groups picking it up immediately after release, so it won't take more than 2 years at most.
>There'll definitely be sub groups picking it up immediately after release
Even popular VNs take years man. Even Key VNs take years. I wouldn't count on it.
It will be Doki, most likely. They'll deliver it with the same speed they're delivering LB!EX.
Only like, 1800 lines left for Saya.
Hasn't moved in at least a month.
Doki and Amaterasu are clogged up on projects already. TLwiki will pick it up.
If mangagamer or JAST went after a Key VN it would cost them a ton of money and it would be way too risky because of piracy.
Piracy is a huge problem in the west and I'm honestly surprised moenovel localized if my heart had wings.
I'm sure there are some Japanese company's that think about localizing VNs to the west but piracy scares a lot of them off. Japanese piracy laws are very strict and in places like the UK/USA piracy laws are like a slap on the wrist in most cases.
>The music will be from the anime
I have no doubts about this anymore. Consider me fucking hyped.
Don't care about partials, I want the whole thing.
Better than Doki, I guess. Still, this project deserves MGQ-speed.
Rogue isn't a fast translator, its just MGQ is shallow and short as fuck.
It looks like her left leg is shorter than the right.
The IMHHW english translation was shit though, Moenovel probably hired some unpaid intern to do the whole translation in a few months. But you're right about the piracy thing, I think Western fans are too used to getting VNs for free now to ever pay for them.
Or Robotics;Notes. Its really sad. I liked the anime, but it really felt like some scenes would have been done a lot better in the VN.
I can't fucking wait. Finally the full story will be shown.
>I want to see TK's past.
You are not alone, anon. You are not alone.
>Implying they won't make a Yui Wafter in the future
I can't even imagine how crazy his past is.
Just how much content does Maeda have planned? 6 VNs total just for Angel Beats, Volume 1 is only 3 routes/9 anime episodes. Either the volumes are short as fuck or he's planning to make one of the most in-depth VNs in history.
I'm thinking the latter. The choice system is going to be even bigger than Clannad, which was crazy with all the shit you could do in the common route. Plus more CG in the first volume than all of Clannad. This is going to be a massive game, and my dick just keeps getting bigger and bigger.
I got into Yu-No for the time travelling, the pixel art, and the wonderful soundtrack. Fucking Mio was just a nice bonus.
The aditional volumes are just gonna be the character routes.
If you still have it installed, boot your Clannad and check how many CGs it has. It has tons. Nigger, there's going to be a CG every other scene.
I wouldn't count on it. The other volumes are going to be smaller and more CGs than Clannad doesn't mean longer or more expansive than Clannad, it just means Clannad had shit all CGs.
>boot your Clannad and check how many CGs it has. It has tons.
Clannad is notorious for having shit all CGs. Key VNs in general are generally quite well known for small amounts of CGs. It was a major criticism with Rewrite due to Rewrite's setting, which was probably what spurred them to include so much more in Angel Beats.
I love CGs, I wouldn't mind if 90% of a VN were them. They really do a lot more than sprites.
You will have to change your system locale to Japanese.
Sprites really grown when you see them for a while, there's plenty of them, and they're well made.
What kind of mini-games should we expect? The mini-games in LB! and Rewrite were hardly decent.
What I want to know why it is getting split into volumes? Why not release it all at once?
Make more money by splitting it into volumes.
>Takahiro Baba, the president of Visual Art's, decided the game would be split up into multiple volumes, despite Maeda's misgivings and opposition to the idea, but Baba said he would take responsibility for any criticism from fans.
>One of the reasons for multiple volumes had to do with the large number of characters and scale of Angel Beats!'s story, so Baba thought that if they waited to release it as a single game, it would take at least five years to complete. Baba also thought that multiple games would solve the issue of having a single game with an overly long play time.
>Listening to Angel Beats music
>Remember Kyousuke in Little Busters crying near the end of the VN/anime
Key is going to kill my heart again.
Just about every VN minigame sucks, I don't see any reason to think that the AB ones will be any different.
Very lovely anime, i really like it...
Pulau Tidung
Travel Pulau Tidung
I don't see why we wouldn't considering the fact that she is going to be in the first chapter
God damn them. Its going to work so fucking hard.
What's wrong with a single game with an overly long play time? Getting a lot of time out of a single game is a good thing. Surely Japan, the nation of Monster Hunter, would appreciate this.
Little Busters is the weakest Key VN to date. If you're reminded of that scene then you need to read more.
Key will find a way, I am certain.
Well with how well they destroyed my heart with Refrain and three episodes of AB, they're going to kill everyone reading.
Apparently Otonashi won't get to have romantic relationships with all the female characters.
I'm guessing the only routes that will involve dating are Yuri's and Angel's, which we'll probably get to play 10 years from now.
I'm gonna Angel Beat off to Yui when this game cums out.
>LB is the weakest Key VN to date
You haven't played Kanon, have you?
That said, all the games they made are, at the very least, good.
>That said, all the games they made are, at the very least, good.
I disagree, have you played Tomoyo After?
>You haven't played Kanon, have you?
Of course I have. And it blows Little Busters out of the park
I heard that there will be more GDM soundtracks on the VN. Any confirmation on that yet?
The pr0n games don't count, only the main series.
Yes I did, and it was awful.
Best Key Girl.
What? Key and Kyoani are not the same company.
I do hope they plan to add a T.K. route.
Jokes, nigga. The filename.
I'd be optimistic on that. Heaven's Door introduces a new song "Million Star" that Iwasawa and Hisako performed in the manga.
I'm also sure that the real people behind GirlDeMo want to work on more songs with the band.
just saying, I saved this image so I can easily fap later
Do you get off to buildings?
>masturbating to scenery
Scenery porn, anon.
80s/90s games are underrated as fuck.
Well, here's how I see it, having played a couple hundred of them.
Most VNs, plot heavy or not, boil down to a "Dating simulator" or at the very least a "relationship simulator." They're very character heavy and rely on getting the player attached and intimate with the girls in the game. Even with, say, F/SN, it's still there. Why else did we have real time breakfast scenes?
In that context, H-scenes serve two purposes.
First, in a pure gameplay sense, they provide the "reward" for beating the game. They're mostly located towards the third act of the game, and though some may seem artificial and crammed into the end, it's extremely satisfying to have this sort of gratification. Say, in an RPG, if you beat a super hard boss, and that was just it, you don't gain any gold or xp or cool items, it wouldn't be as fun, would it? It not only grants fulfillment to the player for beating the game, but also creates a sense of closure for the game itself.
Secondly, in a narrative sense, sex is an extremely intimate act. Considering that the goal of most VNs is to date or romance the girls, sex is a natural part of romance and dating. It's a way to become REALLY intimate and get to know REALLY well your virtual girlfriend, creating a deeper attachment with the character. I think that's the crux of it, really. It strengthens the core engagement of the game and lets you know the girls on another dimension.
tl;dr People who date fuck, dating simulators simulate fucking.
That's a good point. Almost all VNs have heavy elements of wish-fulfillment due to the nature of the target audience, hence the "relationship simulator" aspects of almost all non-nukige VNs.
Never seen anybody be this stupid before, kill yourself
VNs aren't dating sims.
Even if his definition of dating sim is heavily flawed, claiming there are not a huge amount of dating sim VN's is equally retarded.
A visual novel that features dating as part of the narrative != a dating sim.
Didn't VNs kill off those traditional dating sim games? I don't think there's been a popular one since Tokimeki Memorial.
>Simulation is the imitation of the operation of a real-world process or system over time
Tenshi = Yui > Yuri > *
They all better have routes.
Don't make this a semantics argument. Even if there aren't choices or the mechanics aren't designed like True Love or Hokago Ren'ai or May Club, the general focus of the game is to emulate some sort of romance or intimacy with the characters. 95% of VNs have some sort of romance as the central focus. Don't get me wrong. plenty don't, like R07 games or 999 or what not, but they're by far the minority in a genre dominated by romance.
There's plenty around, though they were never super huge to begin with. Mostly, they've fused with other styles to form our current genres, so instead of black and white distinctions you have a gradient of different game types. That's why I usually like sorting them by the core appeal of the games, rather than the mechanics, and why I use "dating simulation" in quotes. And most of the time, with this sort of game, the appeal is the same. It's a romance fantasy, with varying levels of player participation. So what I said still applies.
>No one will ever read GDM's side chapters
>The term 'dating sim' is also often used incorrectly in English as a generic term for romance-driven games (ren'ai games), a subject matter which is stereotypically associated with the visual novel genre. This can lead to confusion, as visual novels are considered a subgenre of adventure games and are not technically included in the dating sim genre. While the two genres often share a common visual presentation, dating sims are sometimes considered to be more statistically based than the "choose your own adventure" style of visual novels
We really need more of GDM antics. Right now, Miyuki Irie and Shiori Sekine are just two more characters for GDM. Hell, they haven't even made their debut on Heaven's Door.
So guys, play them as they come out or wait for the whole thing and play it all at once?
I think I'll end up just playing it in a few months when it is released so I can come here and discuss it. While it'd be nice reading them all at once, don't know if I could wait a couple of years for them all to be released (the first one might even be translated before they are all out! I'll need to play it before it is translated or there will be spoilers flying everywhere)
I'd play it before and after patching. News says that dialogues will change after adding the other routes into the game.
So will it be the situation where the initial one has the common route for the whole series, and when you patch it'll essentially add extra scenes with choices which let you go down the new routes? So you repeat the common route from the first one to play all the added routes.
Just finished it, and the fuck it doesn't. Shiori and Nayuki's routes were pretty boring, worse than any LB routes, and Makoto and Mai's were good but not close to Haruka and Refrain.
Also, the common route blows dick in Kanon and is a boring chore to get through.
That's pretty fucking cute.
I can't wait.
Are those NPCs watching or is this the real world?
Fuck yeah, the much awaited expansion for the 2010 AOTY is almost here.
I'm even more hyped for this after finally playing Planetarian, which served as babby's first Key VN.
NPCs like music and GDM very much (see Operation Tornado).
Can you imagine raping NPCs and they would just forget later?
The manga states that NPCs have their memories reset at the end of the day. Unfortunately, due to the thing with Yuri turning into an NPC, we're not sure which ones are transformed into NPCs and which ones are NPCs since the beginning.
I guess one of the drama CDs provides an epilogue, but I still need to give it a listen.
Are the manga translations still coming from that group that only uses Facebook?
Good thing I learned Moon in the time after the animu ended.
I think so. Better than nothing, I guess.
God fucking damn it NA-GA
The anime fucking sucked, but this VN looks like it has great potential.
I've waited so long for this, I can hardly believe it's happening. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to wait even longer for the translation.
I loved the promise the anime had, but ended up hating it. Please KEY, redeem Angel Beats in a glorious fashion which we will never forget.
If you wanted it that badly, then you could learn moon for it.
The fact you won't means you aren't actually that bothered about it.
Dating sims at least have plenty of interactivity.
VN is just reading some middle school grade text with a couple of choice every 30 minutes or so, to see which girl will you fuck.
Oh, but I am. I just have doubts that I can get my level of Japanese high enough that reading a novel will be enjoyable by that time.
At least Romeo Tanaka is a good writer.
Ah, in that case you should be fine. The whole thing won't be released for another couple years yet, and translation will take at least a year for the first part probably. I'd recommend you read it in Japanese for maximum enjoyment, it really does beat reading translations by a large amount.
Part of the reason the anime sucked is because it was written to be two seasons, and then cut down to one. The VN won't suffer from this problem, so I am fairly hopeful at the moment.
I have no doubts that at the same level of comprehension, reading the original Japanese would be better. I wouldn't stumble through a visual novel I care about with a text hooker and various tools, because I can't see that being enjoyable at all.
But I hope you're right and I can get there in time.
I really should get around to learning Japanese...
Yep. I just got the PSP version of Chaos;Head Noah along with Steins;Gate Vita free on PS+ in the past month.
Knowing Japanese is fun.
>Part of the reason the anime sucked is because it was written to be two seasons, and then cut down to one.
Part of what's putting me off is that while I've heard that the SciADV series mostly has fairly simple text, there's still all the science talk and memes to deal with, so that'll just be a pain in the butt...
Meh. People will argue the condensing part of Angel Beats forever. To me, it doesn't make sense that Jun Maeda would've planned for this anime full of the most shallow characters Key has ever produced, and then immediately rebuke the anime, claiming it doesn't represent his vision for Angel Beats. Maeda probably had a lot of ideas to make it more than 13 episodes, and some of that made it to the manga and light novels, but whether he actually wrote a 26 episode script and cropped it to 13 episodes is questionable. Honestly, with there being like 500 lines of dialogue per episode and erratic screenplay where a scene will shift after 20 seconds, I can see it being feasible.
Anyway, as a side note, it's funny that the arc people loved the most (Yui's) had far less development than the one it's a homage to from Kanon (Makoto's). Let's not even go into how the development between Otonashi and Kanade is probably more shallow than the 5 minute backstories Key writes for plot device characters. I honestly can't see Jun Maeda being this bad, when he didn't even have issues these huge 15 years ago when he worked on ONE. The anime episode restrictions and the number of the characters, combined with his procrastinating style of "saving character development for later" makes this seem like a sneak peak / tease at a future Key VN now, in hindsight.
Unless you're referring to the nakige genre, which I hope you're not outside of trolling's sake.
>Console VNs will never come to the West
It's coming out this year.
When Yui grows up she turns into SUPER SONICO
No way, I don't want her to lose her anti-tits.
>more KitaEri songs
I am happy.
But it's gonna take several years for all the volumes to come out.
Too bad she voices worst girls for the most part.
Three years, with a volume every six months. That's a good release schedule. Now let's hope they stick to it.
>Sticking to release schedule
But she never grew up, she lived her life and died in the same bed, paralyzed, unable to move or talk. Never having gone to school or even met anyone other than her parents.
Which is why she was such a try hard in the series.
Go fuck yourself with a rusty crowbar.
Sure looking good there.
Perfect example of someone who has no idea what's the difference between a VN and an eroge.
Sure is. Let's not forget Emi either. Brilliant girls, all of them. Not my fault you have shit taste.
Unlockable homo route por favor.
>which we'll probably get to play 10 years from now
AB has a big following in the US, so Key could make bank doing an English translation, but of course they won't. God dammit Japan...
Hopefully she will get a romance route.
>people actually think it'll be translated before 202X
First beat alone is 100+ hours with rpg elements. All 6 will be out before the first one is done being translated
Homo routes are already confirmed.
>getting on Steam would really help with that
This. I bet the Higurashi VN is going to get significant exposure when it gets on Steam and is part of a sale.
At the very least, Naoi route.
>Volume 1 alone looks like it’ll have more CGs than all of Clannad.
AB deserved a massive length and I'm glad it's finally getting it.
>As a “visual novel by Maeda Jun”, this can be considered his posthumous work.
>release this at most a month after the release in English
I think it would be great if this got licensed, but judging by the size of the game, it would take a lot longer to get a not-shit translation done.
Some people from the daily key threads were considering TLing it. Not sure if it went anywhere though
God I hope not. They're an autistic bunch of cackling retards.
A VN costs a lot less to make than an anime. Key can put the resources for a 2-cour show into making enough content for several seasons worth of anime, which is what the AB universe always deserved.
I read somewhere that Maeda originally wrote it as a 70+ episode series, which he should have known would never have gotten made at that length.
RIP in peace Maeda Jun
Time to keep working on my kanji.
thank you based key, its a shame that it will take so long for all of these to be translated
By the times the last ones out you could've already learned japanese
>translated this translated that
Just learn japanese, it's not even hard.
Japanese is the hardest language for an English speaker to learn. But if you've watched enough anime you're probably over the most difficult hurdle due to innate familiarity with the language
You realize that LiSA provides the singing voice for Yui, right?
