So I finally got around to watching Azumanga Daioh all the way through. Why do people make such a big deal about this anime? I mean yeah it was kind of cute and funny, but not extraordinarily so. I enjoyed it, but it was far from the best thing I've ever watched.
I'm honestly not trying to troll, I just want to hear people's opinions on it.
Ah, so it's because it introduced things that have now become completely overplayed?
Yes, that's what they said. How do you not understand?
Seinfeld effect. I've heard almost as many people complain that this show ripped off Lucky Star as I've heard people complain about how Maison Ikkoku ripped off Love Hina.
Azumanga Daioh is still a lot more ambitious and memorable than a lot of similar material released since. I think it holds up well.
In addition to the obvious things everybody else has already said, I will further state the obvious and say that the manga was better. Even the mangaka agrees.
I like Ritsu from K-On but i can stop thinking she's just a watered down Tomo.
Tomo-chan still the best annoying genki girl ever.
Yomi was always best
next to Kagura
Azumanga capitalized on a simple formula. Then turned the formula into it's own genre. That, in and of itself, is worth remembering and mentioning.
this, OP. now shut the fuck up and cry in silence
Why is she so perfect?
I want someone to make one with Fate Servants. Lancer has to be Moe through helplessness.
So, azumanga killed anime?
bill is so moe
Azumanga has the same flaw as many others old Anime too. It's horrible drawn/animated, and was never updated to modern standards.
It pioneered the SoL genre and was written by God Emperor Azuma.
