Tell me how you genuinely, honestly feel about Black Rock Shooter, /a/.
I liked the OVA and Huke's illustrations, but haven't actually watched the TV series.
Honestly even the OVA was pretty bland. Not horrible, just bland.
I skipped most of the dialogue and watched the fights.
It had a lot of potential for a series, I thought. Is it worth watching?
I must admit, the fight scenes were pretty fucking incredible. But I feel like that's all the series had going for it.
I'm actually not much of a fan of the original BRS design. Song is pretty good.
OVA was pretty mediocre but had good character design all around, including the human world cast.
The TV series is probably my single favorite anime.
It;s exactly how >>101252975 >>101253012 said. Beautiful animation, awesome fight scenes... and then the plot is a sobbing mess about how hard it is to live with autism.
I enjoyed it, but I was kind of disappointed. I had higher expectations, what with the Hukes and the Mikus.
I like it. Shame about TV anime not sticking with OVA designs though.
They had to tone down Mato to prevent everyone popping boners every single moment she was on screen.
Yomi was improved.
A shame about Yuu's hair though.
I like glasses and all but OVA Yomi's was pure sex.
It looks stupid and I don't really like yuri. That goth Miku looks pretty awesome though.
It's pretty lesbian.
But it's about friendship, not lesbianism.
To each their own I guess.
On a similar note, I'm one of the few that doesn't like OVA DM too much but TV DM has one of my favorite designs ever.
Sure it is, anon.
I love her design
But it is.
I didn't really like the character drama much but I did like that reveal when we found out that chick switched places with one of the fighters, and I really liked the fight scenes.
That design was the main reason I watched the OVA.
That quote something about birds was pretty funny but deep
Of course, dear.
Insane Taiga was one of the best thing that came out of it.
Kagari screaming "bitch" was a highlight.
>BRS game was not released in Canada
I just wanted something to play between reruns of Terry.
I liked the illustrations, liked the song. Anime is worth a watch since you'll think something more interesting it going to happen, not worth a rewatch however. I don't remember shit about the OVA.
I marathoned the entire TV series and thought it was really great until they made the BRS segments actually part of the story rather then just a metaphor of school drama.
I haven't actually seen the OVA but everyone says it's better so maybe I'll do that sooner or later.
Cool design, but that's it. This entire franchise is completely fucking nothing.
I think everything they've ever tried to do with this character hasn't worked. It's a shame, too. I really do love the design of the character and the backgrounds, but they've tried all sorts of different approaches with different writing and continuity and media and they've all been big failures. I don't even think they've been toy commercials, I think that most of them have been genuine attempts at starting a franchise.
But they're really just working backwards.
Anyway, the TV anime is absurdly, comically terrible and anyone who actually likes it for any reason other than wanting to laugh at Mari Okada's expense is probably certifiably retarded.
Nor was it released in Australia, I wanted to buy it digitally so I could play it on my vita, since I'm too lazy to replace my psp's screen.
I haven't even bothered pirating it for ppsspp.
>everyone says it's better
It really isn't.
Everyone shat on it when it was released too.
It's better in the sense that it's less incredibly stupid.
Everyone shat on it when it released because it was still a complete disappointment given what we were expecting based of trailers and stuff.
It's still not very good at all, but at least it's not that god awful CG. Even if the animation is nothing to write home about.
I feel like at some point I was trying to defend the OVA but now I'm realizing how futile that is.
>god awful CG
Faggot please. CG in BRS TV was actually good.
People hated it due to knee-jerk reaction because it was one of the earlier anime that fully adapted that style.
The character desings are very nice, specialy the ones for the PSP game, is the the reason all BRS merchandise in figures and figmas sold a lot.
The OVA had nice animation but it was bland and 2deep4me.
The anime was complete shit exept for the fight scenes. An adaptation form that BRS manga i forgot the name would be better, or atleast a diferent story and setting without all the lesbo-drama and also male characters.
>No lesbo drama
No, it's terrible. They could try a million times with all the pencil shaders in the world, it doesn't change the fact that they were fundamentally cramming a square peg into a round hole. The CGI in the show was trying so hard to pass itself off as legitimate 2D animation that it's embarrassing. It looked bad and added nothing, it was a pure cost saving measure.
Innocent Soul also had lesbo-drama, but it was probably the best thing to come out of the character based almost solely on the fact that it actually features fucking Black Rock Shooter and not the dyke autism awareness junior spokeswoman.
It's absolute, literal, complete shit. Had some funny moments, though.
Ok. Let's discuss about the TV series itself.
If all of them are not that insecure, all these unnecessary would never happened. Damn I just can't get over this fact.
It's like they had a cool character design, and then desperately tried to make a story around it.
Oh, wait. That's exactly what happened.
It needs to be a hentai, or have guys involved. I think you could make something seriously trippy with the characters, but yeah.
I really enjoyed the anime and you can't stop me or my shit taste.
We are, it's shit.
Nothing anyone does makes any fucking sense.
And not in the "oh, it's 2DEEP4U" sense, in the "why is everyone acting so fucking retarded" sense.
It's like if an alien were writing a human drama. Between middle schoolers obsessed with picture books and a psycho lesbian teacher whose motivations drive the entire fucking plot and literally CHANGE IN A SINGLE EPISODE BECAUSE THE WRITER FORGOT WHAT SHE HAD JUST WROTE, it probably deserves some kind of award for unintentionally shitty writing.
BRS, setting a terrible example so that none may follow in its wake.
Fuck you, Mari Okada.
It was a beautifully animated trainwreck.
Yuu best girl.
Mari Okada created her usual inticate, highly wrought, plot engine of emotional repression and catharsis. Whether metaphorical, literal or both, the battle scenes nicely extended the psychological intensity of the relationship drama in textures of steel and high firepower. The id as only anime might conceive it. Worth watching again. The cgi served its purpose just fine.
But that's STR.
Oh, by the way, TV anime > OVA.
Reason? OVA does not have Kagari.
The story of the game was great.
Too short since they had to fit it onto the PSP but the concept of BRS being an alien living weapon went so well with her design.
It wasn't bad, The character designs were cool, the OVA was kinda boring if you have already watched the series but I guess that was t be expected
The OVA was alright but too short to have much development and the BRS-side of it wasn't explained at all.
The TV series was decent for the first half but the second half didn't make any fucking sense. It should've been a proper 13 episodes.
The game is probably the best version of the story, although the gameplay sucks. The music is great, too. Also, all that navel service.
Looks like an edgier RWBY.
It works fine in PPSSPP, anyway.
Isn't Mari Okada the person writing Nagi no Asukara? Cause that's really good.
Monty has a BRS figurine on his desk. What do you think
And PSP BRS was voiced by Maaya Sakamoto. I fucking loved it.
You're right about the designs, they were fucking awesome.
And the soundtrack was by Manabu Namiki.
I need to go finish it. My save data got corrupted in the final chapter.
DM was my waifu for about a year. I even had daydreams about her and that had never happened before or with a other girl other than DM.
I abonded her though because I can't stop thinking about how stupid her haircut looks like, especially from behind.
Long straight hair is just by far the best and plays a major role to me.
Its directed by Imaishi, but written by Okada. There you go.
I still liked the attempt to explain the universe.
>t how stupid her haircut looks like
Holy shit fucking taste.
It's not very good anyway.
I love the artwork and the rawness of it all the OVA as ok but the Tv anime was just aful although it has the bets CGI i have ever seen in an anime and the fight scenes where top noch
Great pictures, nice art style, ova was okay too. I couldn't handle the TV anime since it was shit, but the fighting scenes are pretty much the best I have ever seen.
You can watch this instead, it's all you need, and if you think of it as 40 minute of random fighting it's damn good.
The character designs are lovely and I enjoyed the shit out of the fights, everything else was meh.
No it's perfect, since it actually wasn't trying to look 2D, but rather more like huke's
rt style which mostly looks more like 3D than 2D.
A-are you me?
Should've been Sins of Casshern, but with little girls. Instead we got High School drama with little girls, and some BRS on the side.
if you watch the RT podcast, burnie tells around when Monty told him he wanted to make RWBY
It was around 1 to 2 weeks of error of the last airing episode of BRS anime
Fighting scenes were made by trigger
The OVA was okay-ish.
The TV series was abysmal.
BRS was something magical as an idea, but they never knew what to do with it.
