Why is it that there aren't any successful attempts of
western manga?
I've seen many examples of proper use of western style from Japan.
We're certainly not shy of proper artists.
>>
>>101227336
Cause it wouldn't be manga then.
>>
>>101227336
as in gunslingin weastern?
>>
>>101227336
Pic not related I take it?
>>
>>101227400
I suppose an eastern style would be a better description.
>>101227423
Nope, I meant the illustration.
>>
>>101227453
Not really, no.
>>
Because they're called COMICS over here, anon.

hohoho
i chuckled
>>
>>101227644
Whats funny about that? I would say its a pretty successful use of manga style in western manga.
>>
>>101227823
I thought you were referring to Dan Kim, the creator of Red Mango.
>>
>>101227823
After checking it out, I like it.
Good stuff.

He is fairly well known on /a/ I thought...
>>
>>101228037
Perhaps he is.
I'm not all of /a/ though.
>>
I’ve been trying to make ‘calling manga comics’ a thing but it’s not catching on.
/a/ – Japanese Comics and Cartoons

You're talking to neo-/a/ now.
>>
>>101227336
Aren't there a bunch of really well drawn webcomics?
The only problems are that they're not hand drawn at all, they sacrifice colour for quality and that manga hosts either don't host them or butcher them into manga sized images.

You mean they sacrifice quality for colour?

Yes.
Of course.

>manga
Pick one.
>>
Korea is west of Japan though! Clearly that's an example of western use of the style, then!
>>
OP are you talking about OEL manga or manga with a different artstyle from the norm?

Either way, google is your friend
>>
When westerners emulate a japanese style you can always tell.
Is this a thing? I mean people act like if you're good at art you can draw whatever but I don't know about that, it really seems like it matters where you're born, raised, taught to draw, etc.
Like, sure Avatar The Last Airbender looks clearly influenced by anime, but it's also clearly not. As it is with every other example ever.
Am I wrong?
>>
>>101228634
Yeah! And you go far enough, Japan is actually west of itself, so manga is a Western use of manga too!
>>
Megatokyo
>>
>>101228730
Mind blown for sure.

>Like, sure Avatar The Last Airbender looks clearly influenced by anime, but it's also clearly not. As it is with every other example ever.
The style of Avatar didn’t feel out of place at all.
>>
>>101229290
I don't see how you got that from my post.
>>
>>101227336
Yes there is. It's called 'comic'. You should look into it OP, a lot of great stuff there
