Is this a 9.5?
hardly. And it sucked hard after anno got fired.
yes it's really good i didn't read the manga
pretty sure it wasn't my thing so whatever they changed in the anime I liked
Yes, it is.
Yeah too bad they ran out of money and Anno went away.
The first half of this show is objectively in the top 20 best anime ever created only to be marred by the gainax curse in the second half. 9/10
How does it compare to the manga?
Anime was good until the last couple episodes. Manga was good until the last couple chapters.
I have no idea what they were thinking ending it like that.
First part: 10/10. Second part: 2/10. Censored part where they don't show them fucking: -∞/10
I love this show. The characters go through more development in the first four episodes then most romance characters do in their entire series. Yeah, the ending had issues with budget, directing, and side-character focus but the first half is so strong that I can't help but forgive it.
And I honestly thing that Yukino's dub voice is probably in the top three dub performances of all time. It was bloody fantastic.
Tsuda was also incredibly anal with them because the were going a bit too much towards comedy. And didn't wanted them to do a 2nd season because "muh highschool dramah"
Tsuda should have let them do their thing like Hiromu Arakawa did with the 2003 version of FMA.
The ending of the manga also sucked.
I for one would've fully enjoyed the EVA of comedy anime.
Who knows what Anno had in mind.
We could have probably end up with something like that anyway, but then Tsuda had to stop them.
Tsuda is actually a pretty stupid woman, judging by the personal notes and short stories inserted in the manga. I wasn't surprised when I came to know the motivations behind Anno's departure.
Really the only good thing she had done is Kare Kano
I would have loved to see the Theatre Act of Maho, Tsubasa and Miyazawa animated, it was just too good
it is if you ignore everything with Arima's mom. you can avoid that by just watching the anime but then you miss out on best couple.
Should I check out the manga? I'm not too fond of the artstyle, and I find Arima kind of annoying, but I really want to know what happens to the other couples.
Is it worth reading the manga only for them?
Read the manga but skip the ending.
This easily could have been a 10/10 "greatest love story ever told" series if they excised the four fucking recap episodes (it wasn't bad enough they did that at the beginning of every episode?) and let Anno do his own thing instead of kicking him off.
Love the characters, the OST, the OP and ED, the visual style and direction (Anno loves his stop lights, chemical plants and telephone lines), the comedy, heck I even liked that cheap paper cutout episode they did in the second half. But man, even despite all that this anime is almost the poster child of "wasted potential" for me.
It does things better than a whole lot of romatic comedies nowadays, 9.5 damn right, too bad the author thought there was not enough romance (bullshit).
Not that guy but I wanted to read the manga with the very purpouse of finishing it, what's the matter? (use spoilers if you have to)
