Just read the last volume. Not sure what I was expecting. How did you guys feel about it?
i think it was nice, i thought the complete opposite would happen
Aiko's death was spoilered for me, so I knew that wasn't gonna work out. But I'm surprised how positive it turned out afterwards.
Why didn't he get persecuted actually after the police questioned him?
Hox explains it over in this thread. Its a few years after and he is out jail.
he probably told the cops aiko's the killer or something. i was wondering that too and I couldn't really come up with a good explanation.
He was on probation, so I guess he got a sentence for helping a murderer and hiding evidence, not for actual murder.
Maybe he got a reduced sentence for admitting the murder, plus possible self-defense since it was Aiko's mom who first went after her with a knive. He then stepped in to save her.
Even if you admit it, a couple of years of probation is too light of a sentence for murder, especially in Japan.
Well it's a suspended sentence so he technically never "went" to jail. Also, it was presumably only 1 year long as Punpun states here.
Maybe the police investigated and found out Aiko killed herself and that the murder/assisted murder of her mom was in self-defense.
Finding she killed herself would be fairly obvious due to rope burns. But I'm not sure that murder in self-defense would only get you a year of probation.
The police would have also known the mom was basically insane.
He probably only got nicked for covering up a crime or improper disposal of a body. It would have been easy for his lawyer to prove it was self defense and that the mother was abusive towards Aiko.
One thing I'm wondering now, since I didn't reread the old ones before reading the new ones. The young girl wasn't Punpun's was it? The kid was from she slept with her ex wasn't it?
So, the japanese police did some thorough investigation? Shit, i thought punpun gonna confess after the usual ramen trick by the cops.
It's her ex's. Pic related.
Are you gonna take on a new big project now that Punpun ended?
Somehow, your question makes me wonder if you know the other manga I'm currently translating.
Fuck I knew I sjouldnt have opened this thread before catching up. Didnt think id be spoilered two posts in.
I don't really keep up with your blog. I've been reading Sangokushi, but that's about it.
Which project are you on at the moment?
I'm surprised you didn't get spoilered before. Going to /a/ the last couple of months has brought some massive spoilers of people posting images from the raws.
Do you know how long Sangokushi is? 60 volumes, man. You don't think picking up another long project is overextending myself? Plus, I've gotta finish up Joe this year, which has 7 volumes left.
Oh damn, didn't know it was that long. Keep up the good work!
Bring it up next time there is a scanlator thread and look for public raws. Someone is more likely to scan it if you provide the raws.
I don't even know if it's a new work. Nor do I know its name
Yes, that's his new manga. I'm not gonna pick it up however. I'm trying not to pick up any more ongoing manga presently. It's just far easier to work on finished manga.
While you're here feeding the ego, I have to say your translations are a step above most of the shit out there. They really help make learning >implying: the language easier when I'm not shitting myself over the massive difference between それはご自由に and "I don't care".
It's called "Kinoko Takenoko." Some fantasy story set in two countries about to go to war, apparently. It'll be an interesting read, most likely. Sorry I'm not gonna be there to translate it at the moment, however.
Kinoko takenoko, It's new and it's monthly.
Go for it anon.
Well, just be aware that I do take liberties with the translations, as I believe all translators should do to a degree. So it may not help all the time if you're looking at my translations and the original Japanese.
Thanks. Will spam the scanlator threads
Liberties to improve flow and make it more natural are a big difference from making shit up and filling in implications for the reader and spotting the difference isn't hard. I guess I just agree with your translations more than the stuff some people think is acceptable.
How do you deal with jokes that are based on Japanese culture, or even a wordplay that wouldn't work in English?
man, I had a feeling she was gonna die, but I didn't think she'd kill herself. When I saw her feet dangling my jaw just kinda dropped and I stared at the page for a while. So fucked man
I remember opening /a/ one day and that image was the first thread I saw...
seeing as how Nanjo's kid looks at least two, he was probably in jail for at least a little bit
But he says that it's been only a year (since her death).
Well, isn't the whole point of a suspended sentence to not send the guilty person to jail? I think there's supposed to be a timeskip of several years between chapter 145 (Punpun's dream about Aiko) and 146 (Harumi's story).
I thought the ending was pretty good, though I do agree that it felt rushed at the end. The whole thing is a crazy roller coaster ride from the point Aiko and PunPun run away to Kagoshima. But after Aiko's death it just sort of seems to conveniently wrap itself up. But still, one of the most poignant reads I've ever had.
Depends on a lot of factors. If I think the content of the joke is important, I'll probably end up taking the mostly literal route of tl notes. However, if the joke is there not for its content but purely for comedic effects, than I'll try to wrack my head to come up with a joke close (or not) in English.
>the missing tooth
Glad you are putting in the effort on things like that.
question: did she stuff her own panties in her mouth, or did she do that?
She probably did it to not wake up Punpun.
this manga certainly knew how to punch you right in the gut
yep, probably to keep her from accidentally biting her tongue
I just wanted her to be happy.
She's partially to blame though.
I don't get the appeal. She has a sad story but it was designed to be that way and the only thing that gives it any empathy is how punpun feels. But then you realize he's stupid and self destructive and his feelings are the same.
Not saying that she's a vile temptress, but even tough her sob story is real, she uses it as a tool to get what she wants because deep down, she's just as twisted, if not more, than our beloved mc.
She was fucked and doomed the moment she was born to that particular mother.
And death is the only release from that life. It was a happy ending, considering no other outcome leads to freedom from it.
IT ALL RETURNS TO NOTHING
Did anyone else think that Seki-kun was the best character of this story?
If you think she had a happy ending, you're fucked up. Her story is a tragedy, she never had the possibility of a happy ending. See >>101145254
No you baka.
she's NOT twisted, which is exactly why she kills herself.
She couldn't take it anymore and Punpun telling her that he'll take the burden pushed her over the edge.
Dunno about best, but he was the one I could most easily empathize with
She's twisted because she is a martyr. Always had been. Killing herself to atone for shit she caused by not overcoming her own problems was just following the script. She is her brother and her father, although with a single seflish act(getting punpun to kill her mother) in between.
>even tough her sob story is real, she uses it as a tool to get what she wants
Not at all, she never used her circumstances to guilt other people into helping her. Punpun was already irreparably obsessed with her before finding out about how she lived, and the very reason she offed herself was to prevent him from further ruining his life because of her problems.
You don't get the appeal because you missed her entire fucking character.
>She is her brother and her father
And she didn't even want to visit her mother before running away, that was punpun's idea beause of his own family shit. You're retarded.
Punpun probably told the cops his life story and they shot themselves in the head right on the spot.
Wait, I just understood what you meant by the brother and father part. You're referring to Pegasus and the cult boss, right?
But they have absolutely no relation at all, Pegasus's father was indeed the man who started the cult that Aiko's mother joined, but that's it. There's no other connection.
Having a shit opinion is one thing, making up random things to support it is another.
What was her character other than a static point to compare punpun against? She was unchanging and that was her downfall. There's nothing to empathize with because she's just whiteknight boner fuel and the antonym to the dynamic Nanjou.
>I've gotta finish up Joe this year
I was going to start that in the next few days, but I guess I'll hold off on it now if you're planning on finishing it so soon.
Also you told me you'd finish Innocents Shounen Juujigun this year - don't know if you're still planning on that, but know that there's at least one guy who'd be interested in that.
They're both very interesting and well written characters, and I can't see how she's whiteknight fuel if she takes things into her own hands and prevents other from saving her at their own cost.
What was your personal high point of volume 13?
For me, it was this whole chapter of Punpun talking to Aiko in his dream, in an apologetic and nostalgic way. I don't know why, but seeing her like this for the last time really hit hard. Making me tear up just thinking about it.
This fucking hurt.
I couldn't relate to any part of her character before that point, she was just a stupid dangerous crush, so when she finally did step up and atone, it didn't have any impact because I didn't care.
Protip: She didn't have a reason to atone, because she didn't do anything wrong. You're looking at it wrong.
God it really did hurt.
She's too cute for this shit
Like I said, I couldn't relate. She was broken from the beginning and the only time she ever took her life into her own hands was killing herself to keep punpun out of jail. The whole point of the story was that you have to accept change to grow up and she couldn't, unless you consider death a form of growing up.
Between Aiko and Punpun, it felt like a slasher film where you're supposed to enjoy watching them suffer because of how stupid they are.
My nigga. He was the best friend too.
The whole point of her character was that life isn't fair and she never really had a chance. She was an ordinary girl whose shitty life suddenly took a turn to shittier, and couldn't cope with it. Everyone she tried connecting with eventually used her or betrayed her. If there's anyone whom you should feel bad for in this story, it's her.
And you're not supposed to enjoy watching them suffer, you're supposed to despair at the hopelessness of their situation.
Best character, I don't know, be he was easy to relate, but I think Punpun was a good MC.
Seki was like Sachi, both were pretty aware of how fucked is the world and they manipulated people to have strenght to live: Sachi>Punpun, Seki>Shimizu
Seki was a great character. A shame about his end and Shimizu's.
Fucking amnesia, man ;_;
That was probably the best thing that could've ever happened to Shimizu.
I think there were like four times where I got up from my chair, I walked around the house and stared at the window just to come back and keep reading. This was one of them.
A new start? Dunno, maybe. He's still too autistic for this world, though.
I was fully expecting her to die, but not like this. Not like this. I thought she'd die from an infection because of her wound.
>That was probably the best thing that could've ever happened to Shimizu.
Shimizu was ok with it, I felt like shit because of Seki but after this page I guess it was the only way to go.
Is not a new start, it can be read as Shimizu maturing: his old self went to Punpunia and what remains of him constitutes a new Shimizu.
But why the amnesia, anon? Why?
It's just like Ghost Banri.
RIP Pussy Princess and Ass Hamburger ;_;
>what remains of him constitutes a new Shimiz
Just another autist probably
They're fine, they weren't in Punpunia with the ones who died.
Literally the best combo if you want to render someone a depressed autistic wreck
>I didn't listen to Komm, Susser Tod while reading
Man, what was I thinking?
We don't know what really happened with Shimizu, but this new Shimi doesn't seem interested in Seki, and at the end it looks like Seki is anchoring himself to him again .
First was about Shimi's mother, now is because Seki let Shimizu go with the suicide club.
While some people likes the relationship between Seki a Shimizu, after they grow up, is obvious how biased is their friendship. Seki feels responsability over Shimizu, even when he is no longer needed, is the same need that Sachi recreates with Punpun.
I don't know if is good or bad, but as Punpun, at the end of the manga we are not allowed to see the world from Punpun and Shimizu views, instead we saw it from Harumin and Seki.
As Punpun killed god, something died in Shimizu in the incident. Both were killed and what remains in this world can deal with life but they are, still, outcasts.
So what was Teacher-Friend's class supposed to represent? The new girl is another Aiko and the other boy in the class is another PunPun?
Punpun is a tale of repetition
Fuck off Anno.
Can't wait until yuasa anime of punpun
But I want Anno.
need tomoko at the bottom saying serves you right
Do it, Madhouse. Pls.
Fuck you, seriously.
Hipster trash, please, the fuck does Yuusa have to do with this kind of style and story?
will the manga about those 2 horny kids ever finish? I feel like it only has a few chapters left but I wouldn't know
that is good to know . just found out a new chapter was released a few days ago so good to know that someone picked it up
tatami galaxy, mindgame
But aiko is rei (protected, socially unadapted) and sachi is asuka (strong, the end is almost the epilogue of 3.33)
>tatami galaxy, mindgame
Mindgame's MC is just a normal loser, Tatami Galaxy is a (great) comedic drama, about a mediocre guy.
Anno is the only anime director who portrayed a real weak, passive, fucked up misfit so far.
Not that Yuasaa couldn't work, but I doubt He could do better than Anno.
Yuasa doesn't do character design, not even animate, he directs. He already have the script, he only need to make a great team and make it work.
Also, I doubt anno would care about this kind of story, he likely would try to break it because he hate depressed and pretentious otakus.
There's still scripts to be written that will make or break the whole thing.
If they bought his story he probably got a few misdemeanors for things like destroying evidence (hiding the body), fleeing from the cops, etc, etc, but he clearly didn't get any murder charges pressed on him.
>Yuasa doesn't do character design, not even animate, he directs
Duh. I never said otherwise.
>he hate depressed and pretentious otakus.
No, He hates the third otaku generation, which can only escape reality and ignore how weak and shitty.
or to keep her from writhing in pain, so that she can die without Punpun interfering
>Yuasa doesn't do character design, not even animate, he directs
Duh. I never said otherwise.
>he hate depressed and pretentious otakus.
No, He hates the third otaku generation, which can only escape reality and ignore how weak and shitty they are.
I don't have the courage to finish punpun, could someone spoiler to me what happened after Aiko died?
Read it, faggot.
Is the 4chan group still translating Vinland Saga. (iykwim)
I'm not trying to bust balls or anything, just wondering. :)
Not too much, that's is the climax of the story to me.
It's not a plot driven volume, spoiling it would be useless.
Just read it, if you've reached the part Aiko dies the worst is over.
Is not like I don't have the courage is more like I don't want to. It's just such a pain and I was almost at the end as well.
So Aiko dies, Punpun goes to jail for a year and he keeps being a depressed faggot like he's always been?
I just want to know what happens to a few characters that's all. Fuck I guess you guys are right.
Punpun kills himself, Pegasus was right and the world ends.
Almost nothing happens, they talk a bit about how their lives have been going on.
Actually, Punpun talks, in real white bubbles.
The poop god was actually the ghost of Shimizu's mother, and she's the real villain of this story. When Punpun realizes this it's almost too late, but thanks to the powers Aiko implanted in him when she stabbed him with the fork he shoots a laser out of his left eye and blows up her UFO, thus saving the world from destruction.
I don't know why but I want this to happen for some reason.
Punpun kills himself, Pegasus uses his good vibration to take him to God (the duck). God makes an existential speech about life and death, success and failure, and then PunPun is reincarnated as Yuichi's son. PunPun MKII goes to elementary school (Harumin is the teacher, the abs guy is the janitor), there he meets Aiko MKII.
Is this cliche enough for you?
Just read vol. 13, it's great.
Every joke post about the ending should start with "PunPun kills himself", though.
Are you Samurai Flamenco's writer?
It's actually a good end for Punpun. He ends up as real estate guy like it was originally planned. He is friends with the manga girl, her sister and that weird cute couple.
Manga girl has a daughter which calls Punpun Papa.
Punpun's uncle and his wife have a baby which looks like Punpun and they even show a little God inside his eyes.
I put on Give Me Wings during the last chapter.
>and they even show a little God inside his eyes.
what? The only time we see the baby is in chapter 144 (at least I think so). On this page and there's no god to see.
I clearly remember the god pages after, it was a huge close up
Reread those pages.
Basically, yeah. Your first love, learning about sex from hushed whispers, and dreams for the future are all things children experience, not limited to Punpun; even you and I had to experience those things. Even if it's a little surreal, it's a very human story.
afterwards it's the aiko chapter and then the harumi ones
I did and still didn't find it. I must be blind. oh well.
download Hox translation, it's based on the tankoubon (not the magazine), that could be the problem
Several pages were added for the tankobon release, like usual.
Yeah. you're blind, this is the next page.
Ah I see. I was going through the stuff from bokunopunpun
Do you think since Punpun's daughter isn't also a bird, maybe she'll be free from the family's history of depression and being a broken home?
That's Sachi's ex boyfriend's kid, not Pun Pun's
She isn't his daughter, and yeah, she's probably free. Yuichi's kid, on the other hand, is fucked.
It's Yuichi's kid, of course it's fucked.
Free? There's a cost.
Random question, but if you've been following koe no katachi threads, how would you translate the moon chapter? Seems like the type of thing that'd really need translators notes for english people to "get," it.
