Why is Yu Yu Hakusho the best Shounen ever made? Its DBZ perfected.
Yusuke was a great protagonist who was cocky and confident, while also bring comedic and silly.
Kuwabara was you're typical Japanese 80s thug on the outside, while being noble and silly
Kurama and Hiei made the great 1-2 punch of Brain and Brawn. Even though Kurama was also a skilled fighter, Hiei had a more powerful punch.
Botan, Keiko, Shizuru were all useful and awesome characters that really shined during the Dark Tournament. (Yukina is decent, she doesn't do much)
Keiko and Yusuke made a great, believable couple who had history and a great payoff at the end
Genkai was nothing but awesome
Kouenma was also a great character
Why was she so sexy?
What's this? A shounen for ants?
i couldnt watch it without nostalgia goggles.
its too dated and too cliche to stand up to any of the "newer" shounen like one piece, naruto, bleach or HxH in any aspect.
The Dark Tournament could be one of the greatest arcs ever.
Toguro was a way better antagonist than Cell/Frieza
For what? Getting placed in peril so Yusuke could be mad?
>better than YYH
You're kidding, right?
While I love YYH, there are flaws.
Genkai just popping right back after dying and the Final Tournament arc immediately spring to mind.
>no mention of Ogre
She was allowed to go back because of Kouenma. She talked to Toguro outside Limbo in her youthful form but went back to Kouenma in her old form to go back to the living world, probably with some stipulations we're never told.
Oh, I know why. I just thought it was really cheap and removed all of the weight of her sacrifice.
This is bait right? HxH is on par with YYH but the other 3....no contest. Eureka seveN was a better Shounen than the big3 and E7 was more of a coming-of-age story.
>totally no nostalgia goggles guys and my opinion isnt biased by this place AT ALL
everything you can shitpost about shounen is fucking invented by YYH. the enemies are literally demons from the realm of darkness without personality. the power system is non existent. 0 world building. for every problem yusuke is the last hope of mankind. also it just doesnt look as good as the newer ones.
I haven't watched this show in over a decade, do you think it's worth a watch?
She was Puu's babysitter. OP might have been a little too quick to give Keiko the "useful" description. She was just a plot device.
At least she wasn't an airhead and acted believable in terms of her feelings towards Yusuke. She wasn't over the top or annoying unlike most love interests in shounen. She was a qtπ too
I watched YYH after seeing Naruto, Bleach etc.
YYH is better BECAUSE there is no power system or world building. The only thing that matters is the fights, and it does it well. Tournament Arc beats everything that those series have.
Naruto and Bleach try to world build, and set power levels only to throw them out of the window as soon as something happens. You can't seriously be saying that the shitty stories involved in those series beats out a couple of guys just beating the crap out of each other.
Is it me, or did thr final arc feel rushed?
so you watch a 20 year old show for eye candy?
i know people like to say that shitty power levels ruin naruto and bleach but they really fucking dont.
naruto pre timeskip is excellent at it, and shippuuden doesnt jump the shark till pain. bleach... well ok i give you bleach. but bleach is exactly what you claim to like. its fight after fight after fight with better music and animation.
>everything you can shitpost about shounen is fucking invented by YYH.
OK, I'm listening...
>the enemies are literally demons from the realm of darkness without personality.
So Hiei and Kurama didn't have personality? What about Toguro? Sensui? Three King Saga was amazing.
>the power system is non existent. 0 world building. for every problem yusuke is the last hope of mankind.
You say that lines its a bad thing. World building is for shounen. The plot should be liquid...always moving and the world building in YYH was only the nessecary ones....The Living World, the Spirit world and the Demon world and the links between then. Also Yusuke is the main character, asshat....if he wasn't the main character, he wouldn't have to be the mankind hero...besides, the story ends with him losing...because Emma betrays him.
>also it just doesnt look as good as the newer ones.
This isn't even an argument. Sorry its not like your bright/colorful SoL/Harem anime, made with CGI and 20year old improved equipment...or did you forget YYH is probably older than you?
It was rushed because Togashi fighting da power
Just go back to Naruto-kun.com you fucking pleb.
If we could only get to that Dark continent after this hiatus...
Its kinda odd how very little porn of YYH exists...and what there is 60-70% Botan, 10% Juri/Koto and the rest are the old Yaoi land whales who shipped Kurama and Hiei
And Hokuto no Ken destroy all of them.
People respect YYH too much to make porn of it...people either really liked it or have never watched it...it never developed trolls who wanted to make porn of it.
Not even close.
Kenshiro is one of the least compelling protagonists of all time and the fights have no tension whatsoever in them. There's a fucking pressure point for EVERYTHING.
It's only noteworthy for inventing aura.
>Its DBZ perfected
But that's wrong.
Yu Yu Hakusho is good specifically because its NOT DBZ.
YYH has character development and a coherent plot.
>The only thing that matters is the fights, and it does it well.
>couple of guys just beating the crap out of each other.
>YYH has character development and a coherent plot.
all dem goggles
Yusuke is very Goku-esque. A silly/goofy guy with a love interest and friends, whom he fights for and has training arcs. Both awaken powers after the death of a friend. Both talk about loved ones as their power but still defeat enemies by fighting unlike shit today with making villains friends.
Everything else is pretty different however. YYH didn't really have a Vegeta-type character or really even a Piccolo, unless you wanna say Kuwabara.
>A silly/goofy guy with a love interest and friends, whom he fights for and has training arcs. Both awaken powers after the death of a friend. Both talk about loved ones as their power but still defeat enemies by fighting unlike shit today with making villains friends
Congratulations. You've just described every shounen there is out there.
Not those guys, but I find it does both pretty well.
If you really care about how the show looks you could always get bd rips. They actually look really nice.
It definitely is in my top 3 shows, used to be my favorite but I think JoJo might be beating it now, and lupin 3rd is on par or just behind.
Isn't hieie sort of the vegeta type character? Well in concept anyways as he is villain turned good.
Pretty different personality though
>It's DBZ perfected
Still not saying much. You forgot to mention that Yusuke is also a whiny bitchboy and also a huge moralfag, which conflicted with his ruthless punk attitude and turns him into a wannabe poser tough guy. Kurama and Hiei were pretty bland characters (especially Hiei) and Botan was just annoying. But I agree on everything else, Kuwabara is the best character and Genkai is as awesome as Master Roshi was back when he was still useful as a fighter.
But HxH really is superior. I agree with the HST being inferior.
>YYH has character development and a coherent plot.
Not unless they develop at the very end of the series. I'm on episode 85 and the only character who had remotely any development is Kuwabara, and the plot plods along at a pace almost as slow as DBZ (that fucking Dark Tournament arc took up a season and a half).
Kuwabara is more like the Krillin of YYH. He's one of the weakest fighters yet the show just wouldn't be the same without him.
Hiei is Vegeta and Kurama is Tien.
Except Kuwabara does get to do some important shit before he is just gone from the demon king saga
Krillin also did a lot of important shit before he became Yamcha 2.0 in the Namek saga.
Yusuke went moralfag because he grew up. He was that punk up until the Dark Tournament where he realized he was in over his head. Then with Genkais death...he quickly found himself needing to rise above.
He did kinda remain the jerk when he was around Kuwabara and Keiko.
Also Yusuke's resurrection after being killed by Shinobu Sensui just because he happens to be the descendant of the most dangerous demon in history, which was a blatant ass pull.
I also love YYH but like you said it does have its flaws, contrary to what the fanboys/girls believe.
yu yu hakusho is a show that could do with a remake like hxh
He went back to his old self right after the Dark Tournament, a street thug who skipped school, constantly got into fights and was rude to pretty much everyone around him except Kurama.
Also that whole moralfaggotry thing was cringe-worthy - he's always on the verge of tears when he's forced to kill humans (even the evil ones who were trying to kill him and everyone around him) yet he doesn't bat an eyelash when he's mowing down demons by the dozen.
Nah, the original anime is fine. Pierrot would probably half-ass it like what Toei did with DBZ Kai. At least the YYH anime covered the full story, unlike the first HxH anime.
>watching YYH for Yusuke
If it wasn't for Keiko, he'd be a shit character.
Kuwabara and Kurama are far more interesting characters and even Hiei has his moments, with being the edgy character who doesn't even really act edgy (muh darkness flame....that's translation shit...it was called Black Hellfire Dragon).
Moralfaggotry would be more akin to something you're trying to advocate, which would be taking a moral high ground and then killing anything you consider "evil".
Such as FotNS.
>If it wasn't for Keiko, he'd be a shit character.
Fair enough. I suppose it wouldn't be the first (or last) time the MC of a shounen fighting anime is a shit character. Yeah Kuwabara is the best character although Hiei was edgy 24/7 unless Yukina was around, then he shuts up with the constant snide remarks.
YYH is still probably one of the best Dubs of all time. It still holds up and doesn't sound awkward or weird.
It could very well be superior to the Japanese voices.
Sounds similar to Yusuke and Sensui before the latter went batshit insane - both spirit detectives considered demons to be evil and killed without hesistation while humans must not be killed even if they rape and murder innocent people for shits and giggles.
>best Dubs of all time.
YURA-MESHI YURA-MESHI YURA-MESHI YURA-MESHI YURA-MESHI YURA-MESHI YURA-MESHI YURA-MESHI YURA-MESHI YURA-MESHI YURA-MESHI YURA-MESHI YURA-MESHI YURA-MESHI YURA-MESHI YURA-MESHI YURA-MESHI YURA-MESHI
She was way more irritating in the anime.
The pacing is terrible, the story non existent, the fight were bad and the character are decent at best.
Sincerely the only good thing that came out of this mess is the scene when Yusuke tells Keiko he's going to the demon world for three years.
The first 20 chapters only of HxH are 10 times better than the entirety of YYH.
>what is a jerk with a heart of gold
Both YYH and the origianl HXH have their moments of decent animation. Spars, but they are their.
>Stop liking what I don't like.
I bet you like to ship together killua and gon to while you are at it?
>Implying HxH isn't all over the place and inconsistent as well
I like both shows, but yu yu is better
I like YYH. Its OP and EDs were great. The characters were very nice and I liked how the tournament arcs weren't as boring as others.
But I prefer HxH
She was cuter with pigtails.
It sounded pretty damn average when it started. I'm pretty puzzled as to why I rarely see /a/ shit on the dub, seen as it encompasses almost everything associated with a bad dub. I mean I like it, but I am a pleb.
I also like it, but then again I also like the Remastered Funi dub of DBZ.
Fuck, marry, kill, befriend, imouto
Can this be the theme for this thread?
Also i love yu yu hakusho, but hunterxhunter is better.
>Kurama is Tien
Retarded fanboy detected
You idiots fall for anything.
Why not? They both have similar personalities and share the same VA. If not Tien then who else?
Just started watching this last week. Had to take a break after the monster donut centipede.
It's pretty good all in all though
Fuck, Marry, Kill, Befriend, Imouto
(Pretend yusuke's man is young Genkai)
>Stop liking what I don't like.
I'm totally ok with people liking YYH, they just have to admit that it's a pretty bad shonen.
Lot's of people like bad things, myself included.
Objectively it;s mediocre, because everything after the dark tournament was shit.
I agree they weren't as good as the Dark Tournament...but shit? 100% wrong.
>Seeing YYH now for the first time.
>YYH has been out for a long time.
>Not realizing YYH is a "must see" tier / "mandatory watch" tier anime
Holy christ how new to anime ARE you?
Dark Tournament was perfect in every way, the introduction to new powers/moves/skills, new foes, the fact that every fight felt like they were in a desperate situation
sensui was just fucking stupid
>"ya, I know how we just build Toguro up to be the baddest baddy in all of bad land(lMAO 120%!!!!), but he's a drop in a bucket compared to this scrawny little fuck face!"
and the 3 kings arc was just trying to repeat the dark tournament again, or at least that's about as far as I got because I dropped it shortly after.
there's a point where power levels stop mattering, and frankly, Toguro was the perfect stopping point, instead of going SSJ3 Yusuke DEMON KING MODE.
I don't know if it's better of worse, but they pretty much just gloss over the 2nd tournament in a few chapters.
Then some single-chapter arcs and then a decent ending.
How about some non-Togashi shonen?
I've heard some dumb shit in my time but that takes the cake for today at least. I will say that it went downhill after the dark tournament and went even further downhill after the first half of chapter black, and yes the show had its flaws that's fine. But in general it was a solid show with likable characters and decent to good fights. You may not like it but it's not "objectively bad"
Maybe it was that i didn't see the anime but only read the manga (maybe the pacing in the anime is better because in manga it's the most awful thing i've ever seen).
If you read this for the first time in these times (like i did) you cannot consider YYH good. Hell even if you consider that it was the 90s when this was made it's hard to rate it higher than a spit more than average.
Oh god, I remember watching an episode of that dubbed. Those voices will forever be suck in my head.
After interacting with all kind of people during decades I ended seeing a common patern, Latin americans and some europeans think Saint Seiya is hot shit and one of the best things ever made, north americans and other europeans think Yu yu hakusho is hot shit and of the best things ever made, all because they saw it when they were kids, I swear it the nostalgia in some people is unbelievable, both series are decent enough and classics but they are far from being the best anything...
I came to the thread expecting people to shit on Keiko and I was not disappointed.
Keiko is a human girl. What do you expect her to do? Fight? She had her role and she did it well. She saved Yusuke's body by herself.
The relationship was incredibly believable. It's called young love, they're only...what 14? Not that you autists will ever understand what love is like.
Yup, pretty much this... they are both crap in the end.
Yusuke acts nothing like Goku, are you retarded? Yusuke what a mother fucking gangbanger punk.
Unlike Goku he doesn't have that retarded kiddie voice in the Japanese dub.
>Its DBZ perfected.
>Unlike Goku he doesn't have that retarded kiddie voice in the Japanese dub.
I have no idea how people put up with that.
Everything else doesn't matter
Wait what the hell, why does this exist?
I thought you were making a joke.
>Watching dub on toonami
>Gash voiced by Jimmy Neutron
The manga was amazing though, never got to watch the full anime
I'm watching through it (for the first time I should add) and I find it incredibly refreshing to see how battle arcs aren't drawn out and each character is given a decent amount of power to stand on their own and not just rely on 'the leader MC' all the time.
Botan is a real cutie as well.
>literally NO good porn of Yu Yu Hakusho
such a shame too...almost all the female characters are pretty adorable.
>The reason why I love YYH
The OST was just fantastic.
This man gets it.
