How the hell does someone make it to high school without learning how to swim at least a little bit?
Especially in Japan which is like a fucking island holy shit.
My school never had swimming lessons.
Same reason some people cant ride a bicycle
Its either to hard for them or they have a fear of it
Really? We did. I remember our teacher was some asian dude called Mr. Yagami. He was a fucking asshole.
When I was a kid my dad tossed me into a lake one day, told me to figure it out, I did without too much trouble. I don't see what the problem.
I'd assume cause schools aren't surrounded by a moat.
im 22, live on an island and cant swim. while its not common, some people just never bother learning and there reaches a point where it becomes to awkward to ask anyone to teach you
I learned how to swim and ride a bike in primary school, forgot everything and learned it again in high school
And by now I've pretty much forgotten how to do either again
>Japan is an island
>That means that its 125+ million people all live near the ocean and are constantly put in life and death situations where knowing how to swim is necessary
My independence brother from another mother.
My dad did the same thing to me, though it was mostly because he didn't want to pay for swimming lessons.
The ocean around Japan is filled with nuclear and whale blood. You can't swim in it.
That's why they're always acting excited and screaming "UMI DA!" when they see non-blood oceans in anime and Australian tourism commercials.
>our teacher was some asian dude called Mr. Yagami. He was a fucking asshole.
I see what you did there.
What if the island sinks one day or something though? Wouldn't you want to know how to swim to safety?
>Especially in Japan which is like a fucking island holy shit.
The only thing that bugs me about my chinese cartoons is the fact that most of the MC's live near a riverbed and never get mosquito bites. I mean, what the fuck is up with that?
How can you forget things like that? Swimming is instinctual and riding a bike is a simple matter of balance.
Are you disabled?
i dont think a 7.5 million square kilometer island will just sink
They said the same thing about the Titanic and look what happened.
When I was going to primary school Swimming lessons were a compulsary thing here in the UK and if you failed to get to a certain standard after the 2 years that you're given then you have to re-take the swimming lessons with the class a year below you until you can pass
I never realised that swimming was a non-compulsary thing in other countries
You keep thinking that, but don't come back here if it does and you didn't prepare for it.
Different anon here, also never learned to swim. Drowning just doesn't seem like a likely enough threat to me (given my location and lifestyle) to justify learning.
I'm probably more like to get shot or hit by a bus while outside; I don't walk around wearing a suit of armour.
>I don't walk around wearing a suit of armour
Must feel nice to be so carefree.
Not anime or manga.
>When I was going to primary school Swimming lessons were a compulsary thing here in the UK
>in the UK
That's cause when another country invades you guys again, you'll be darn ready.
>implying anything Japanese is anime-related
They let me get through without learning how to swim, I still can't do breast stroke.
dad tossed me in the deep end of a pool when i was 5.
It really isn't that hard, you should be ashamed of yourselves.
They say you can't forget how to swim but despite taking lessons when I was a kid, the last time I went to a swimming pool I swam like a quadruple amputee.
I suppose they were talking about the how to stay buoyant part.
>That's cause when another country invades you guys again
But its all ready HAPPENING or has is already happened
>That's cause when another country invades you guys again, you'll be darn ready.
I'm pretty sure the UK hasn't been invaded in almost 1000 years, at least not successfully
Well, that took a while to figure out.
Local ymca gave free lessons to kids in school
>inner-tubing down a river
>Some Asian chick falls off her tube
>She can't swim and freaks out before noticing the river is only like 6 feet deep
Laughed my ass off. She had a nice butt doe.
I'm 22 and I've never set foot in a body of water deeper than my bathtub.
Teaching yourself to swim isn't difficult at all. I figured out how to do it over a summer when I was younger in a pool I can stand in so I could just stand up if shit went wrong. This was my dad's pool so I didn't have to go somewhere and look like an autist in front of strangers at least so I was lucky in that regard.
But all of this is pointless. Why swim when you can spend your free time watching Chinese cartoons and circlejerking on /a/?
>6 feet deep
That's like three feet deeper than the tallest Asian.
Yeah but at that depth even if she hit the bottom she could push up and break the surface.
That's incredibly depressing.
Swimming feels wonderful.
I don't like getting wet. Even showers feel awful, but they're kind of necessary.
