I tried watching Fate/Stay Night a couple years ago but it was absolute dogshit. I know the VN is much better, from what I heard but i'm not a huge fan of visual novels. Anyways, I started watching Fate/Zero, mainly because I hear good things about pic related ie. he's on guts' level of suffering but I feel left out, almost like i'm missing something. Should I force myself through the Fate/Stay Night anime before watching Fate/Zero, or is Fate/Zero accessible to newcomers to the series?

I just now finished Fate/Zero, and haven't seen Fate/ Stay Night yet.

I'd say its completely accessible, I did not need any prior knowledge to start and follow to the end.

Speaking of which, I need to find Fate/Stay Night subbed. HorribleSubs did Zero, but not Stay Night, recommendations?
>>
No seriously, read the VN anyway or miss out on a lot. It's not called "babby's first VN" for nothing.

Or be a dipshit go into hibernation until the upcoming anime comes out.

No fucking shit.

>is Fate/Zero accessible to newcomers to the series?
It is but you are missing out on a lot of details and stuff that would make more clear what fucking happened in X scene from it.

Also it is kinda late to go with F/SN since F/Z spoils a lot of shit quickly.

W-what if I get the bad end?
>>
>>101117914
That's why there's a chart that comes with it. And also, the bad ends are plot important sometimes
>>

But anon, getting Mind of Steel means you won.
>>
>>101117086
You don't, stay away from Nasuverse and its pretentious chuuni shit pretending to be DEEP.

> ie. he's on guts' level of suffering
No, he's just a manchild with a retarded view of the world, what's worse is that faggots like him for his edginess
>>
I'm pretty much the same as you OP. I tried to watch FSN twice and both times I found it wasn't that bad until around 10 episodes then it turned to shit. I just skipped to watch the final and know the result then watch FZ with and enjoyed it very much.
>>
just read the VN you'll like it
>>
>>101118343
How long is it?
>>
>>101118391
22 days long.

You won't like it.
>>
TypeMoonfags are going to flood this thread with their bullshit, so ignore them and listen to me.

I've read the F/SN VN, the F/Z LN and seen the anime for both. It's perfectly fine to just watch the F/Z anime on its own. The rest of the franchise is pretty shit compared to it anyway, except for the last two days of the final route in F/SN. Go for it.
>>
>>101118450
five days

The anime is bad. This isn't just a case of the studio doing a lazy adaption or leaving things out. DEEN absolutely butchered it. It's a horrible way to get into the franchise, and you should forgot you ever wasted time on it.

Read the fucking VN.
>>
>>101118520
I lasted 3 hours before realizing it was too shitty to keep going.

Also I got killed by Berserker. So at least there was closure.
>>
>>101118651
Protip: Always pick the stupid option/whatever Rin and Saber tell you not to do. Otherwise you'll get a bad end.

Enjoy listening to Rin and Saber spend twenty minute chastising you afterwards EVERY FUCKING TIME.

Absolutely disgusting.
>>
>>101118959

But the Kara no Kyoukai movies are 10/10
>>
>>101119395
No, they really aren't. They're juvenile and edgy, like most of Nasu's work.
>>
>>101119516

Could you give some examples? I could see nothing "juvenile" beyond Enjou Tomoe's behavior and nothing "edgy" beyond Cornelius Alba and Shirazumi Lio, who are both insane.
>>
>>101119610
>Could you give some examples?
Are you serious? Keep in mind Nasu wrote the novels in high school and regularly criticises them himself. The only way someone could possibly think they're good is if they ignore all the bland characters and lack of development and focus on whatever aesthetic Ufotable incorporates.
>>
>>101119705

I didn't say the novels were good, they're very dry and impossible to read. The anime movies work much better.

"Bland" characters (I would call none of them bland beyond Azaka and Mikiya, Kokutous bottom tier) aren't anything juvenile or edgy, though. Shiki, the central character, goes through plenty of development. Everyone else is too out of focus to need it for story flow.
>>
>>101119864
>The anime movies work much better.
So I was right then.
>The only way someone could possibly think they're good is if they ignore all the bland characters and lack of development and focus on whatever aesthetic Ufotable incorporates.
>>
>>101119914

... You seem to be going off on your own track. I was talking about the movies to begin with, not the novels. It was in my initial post.
>>
>>101120013
What makes you think the movies are radically different, narratively, than the novels? Protip: they aren't.
>>
>>101120075

The fact that you don't have to suffer through Nasu's incredibly poor descriptions and pacing? They're his worst aspects, his characterizations aren't actually that poor.
>>
>>101120141
>his characterizations aren't actually that poor.
Oh god, you cannot be serious.
>>
>>101120210

They aren't. You might hate him, but they're pretty decent characters. It's just that they're set in very bad, clunky text. When removed from it, they work fine.
>>
>>101120210
Not him, but they aren't. Setting/events and characters are what he does best.
