Finally got around to watching the garden of words because I was told the art was really well done. Sure the art was beautiful at some points, but god damn that story was bullshit. it was going alright until around the 2/3 mark and just went to shit
I think the least bad Makoto shinkai work story-wise is voices, because it's the shortest.
His stories are pretty bad in general.
The part where it totally lost me is where sensei is running down the stairs after him, that could have been a pretty good scene, but instead this kid starts shouting he hates her and acting like he known her his whole life with some "you've always been like that" crap, he talked to her for like a month and didn't even get her name or what she did for a living. even when she forgives him for the shit he said, they still fuck off in different directions like that
Would have been heaps better if he just fucked her and decided to go separate ways
The story was great, what did you dislike about it?
Oh I see, you're retarded. It wasn't supposed to be a sexual relationship.
it was shit anon
But to add, it just seemed like they skipped important bits, there could have been a bit more development before the drama
I wasn't talking about the sex being my main concern for being absent. they could have stayed together at least. that last spurt of going after him just seemed like it was misplaced with the way it went
The message was supposed to be that they helped eachother through their struggles without barely talking or sharing information about eachother. MC, being a child, invested himself too far and told the woman too much about himself and she told him nothing. When he finds out she is a teacher and is leaving him, he feels betrayed because she didn't say anything about herself and thus made him feel belittled and like a child because he was just dragged along for the ride.
And I didn't enjoy that. Thanks of the chat, anon.
Not liking =/= bad
Yep, I agree, thank you very much. Good job
When I watched it I was going along like it was a nice romance. nice older woman and pretty level headed MC. but then I got to what you said and I personally felt like I had been strung along by the story. I felt like I was betrayed by the premise I was going along with. I can only assume that's how the writer/director wanted it to go, but it just made me feel bad, anon.
>watching a movie like that for the story
>watching it with subtitles that ruin the art
>reading subtitles instead of emersing yourself into Shinkai's Übergod-tier imagery
God thanks. It's stupid but i've lost so much time trying to explain this to people before that I actually feel happy to see that everyone isn't retarded.
Shit movie, but definitly nice art.
Characters were too shallow, story too bland for me to enjoy it. And I don't think the art can save the rest, therefore my opinion of it being a shit movie.
