Wanna talk about Rumiko's best work? Ranma, Urusei Yatsura and Maison.
Maison Ikkoku was really breddy gud, I'm not usually into that sort of series.
Although towards the end it got somewhat tonally confused, as even the last 2 volumes kept racking up muh misunderstandings on top of each other and the pre- and post-sex interactions felt as if they were pasted from a serious romance drama. But it wrapped up fine.
Urusei Yatsura's anime ended perfectly, makes me grin every time I watch it.
I have YET to watch Ranma and Maison. It's one of main backlog urgencies i keep pushing back. Rumiko's Urusei only has the first season in BluRay, and not any signs of such treatment for either Ranma nor Maison. I guess good old DVDs will suffice on an old CRT.
Lum is quite gorgeous btw.
Anyone reading Rin-ne?
It's bound to get an anime soon.
Just a reminder that this exists.
>Lum is quite gorgeous btw.
she was quite poster girl for quality outside OVA's
>Rumiko's Urusei only has the first season in BluRay, and not any signs of such treatment for either Ranma nor Maison.
Ranma and Maison Ikkoku both have BD releases.
Maison is one of my favorite mangas ever. Did watch the first episode of the anime and thought it was shit.
Ranma's BD release was pretty disappointing. I was expecting at least a 16:9 remake, but they just retraced it and changed the order of the episodes for some reason.
I read around 30 chapters and thought it was crap.
I watched the Maison Ikkoku film recently and while I thought the art style was really jarring at first, I did like the film quite a lot, especially how it takes place entirely within the apartment. I felt like it would be interesting to see a live action stage adaptation of it.
>I was expecting at least a 16:9 remake
Why would you want this?
And didn't they just rescan the cells in higher definition?
Actually, almost all her appearances pre-season 1 were perfect.
Lum was based off pic related.
Am not one for 3dpd, but DAYUM how could Ataru not tap this sooner.
Mermaid Saga is Rumiko's best work.
Better than Inuyasha!
Aliens from Uru Planet are very easy to knock up.
Inuyasha was kinda great. Also, Rumic World.
I agree with your list but suggest adding the Mermaid tales.
Ichinose needs to be bigger.
Wanted to dick her so badly.
Dunno, the movie felt so wrong.
There is some strange vibe that makes you feel uneasy. I know it was kinda the point, but it felt like it was still there by the end.
But the movie was released at the same time that UY 5th movie, and this one is fucking great.
Have fun explaining to her dad why you're fucking his son.
I didn't like the 5th UY movie, it's probably my least favorite (I haven't seen the 6th yet).
Lum the Forever is such an excellent ending to the franchise that Final Chapter fell flat. Also, I felt that the visual direction was really plain in comparison to Oshii and Yamazaki's films.
What about the All Star We are Immortal cast party?
Lum the forever is a good (if strange) ending for the FRANCHISE as you said it.
But Final Chapter is a really great ending for the romance between Lum and Ataru.
I mean watching the whole show and then getting to this,... I cried.
It really capture the essence of their relation perfectly.
6th movie is allright but forgetable, and the design is a little too much 90's.
Still you should watch it one of these days.
That one is amazing.
Urusei Yatsura, for being a comedy, has some really REALLY tear jerking moments. You have episodes like Ten being scammed by a super hero and killer potatos, then you have Lum leaving Ataru and Everyone getting killed but Ataru.
Lum the Forever is my favorite move, I liked Beautiful Dreamer but its second place for me.
Oh man, Ten getting scammed by that superhero was hilarious, thanks for reminding me. I think I'll go watch it now.
That's what makes it so memorable.
It's funny how in the 194th ep they had the poll for the 10 most popular eps and most of them were the weird/experimental/Tear jerking ones.
But it worked because it was in a comedy show in the first place. And also because it was very long and you got attached to the world and characters.
What can they do with 13 eps shows nowaday.
What did you think of the 3rd movie, it's probably my least favorite since it goes all over the place and kinda drags on.
In fact the most interesting bit is when Lum is gone, but then the director just developed the concept better in the next movie.
>Everyone getting killed but Ataru.
But when you watch it for the first time it's absolutly mind blowing
The person who played Shutaro from Urusei Yatsura is the same voice actor who voiced as Kenshiro
It's hard for me to say. While I think Beautiful Dreamer has better pacing overall is a little bit better directed, it doesn't have the depth or level of surrealism that Lum the Forever has.
I will say Lum the Forever has the best ending song of all the films, though.
I think the 3rd movie is just a little better than the 5th. I do agree that it's pretty uneven in progression, but I thought it was still more interesting than the first half of Final Chapter.
Its direction is also quite nice.
I always wanted to see Lum and Inuyasha fucking duke it out.
Cat vs Dog
Yeah to be fair the first half of Final Chapter is not that memorable.
I think I'm biased because I like the ending so much.
Lum the forever was the one with the kid from the future, right?
I rewatched it recently, for nostalgia, but I'm not sure if this is the one your talking about, or if your talking about the weird movie with the tree.
Lum the forever is the weird one (4th one).
You watched the 3rd one: Remenber my love.
I liked the final season the most, it had a nice nostalgic feeling to it.
It'd be nice to see another series or OVA if they're exclusively filler directed by Oshii or Yamazaki.
I really enjoyed those.
eh, Oshii is coming back to patlabor with the live serie and movie.
UY LIVE SERIE DIRECTED BY OSHII WHEN?
Oh, I guess I'll watch the fourth one now.
I got chills from the implication that what was happening had happened before and that the people were actually possesed by aliens that could come to our dimension thanks to the Oni princess being there and that's why all the weird stuff happened when Lum was around.
Please no. Once they start making more OVA material Fo UY they'll start doing it for other Takahashi work.
Most rebooted of anime are trainwrecks just waiting to happen. Just leave UY and the rest of them alone.
>space aliens and technology
Is urusei yatsura basically like ToLoveRu of 1980s?
Nobody wanted to fuck ataru though, just Shinobu at first but that's it.
UY is a Romcom.
Are you retarded? Lum isn't the MC, Ataru is. There isn't any girl who likes him except for Lum.
>Comparing Urusei Yatsura to scat slut/moe harem bullshit.
Honestly, a remake of the manga sticking exclusively to it would be good.
Voicing Lum would be hard though.
Is it really worth it?
A full adaptation with nowadays animation would be really cool, 1080 dachas and all that.
A remake of the manga isn't really worth anything. On top of the anime being better than the manga, the annie also adapted almost, if not all the stories from the manga, and made most of them better.
More OVAs would be nice though, consisting the quality of the new swim meet one.
I'm on a phone.
If they could stick exclusively to the manga canon then it would probably be good but it's not likely to. They'll fuck up the art style or try to turn it into the typical moe harem shit to cater to most of the Jap fans.
One successfully done OVA for the sake of an anniversary doesn't mean anything since they would need an animation company to do that kind of quality work for an entir show.
Also, if it's successful they'll try to do Ranma 1/2 and the shitposting waifu war threads will stink up /a/ worst then the Eva generals back when 3.0 was announced.
No, this and all her other work should be left alone. It's had it's run. Let sleeping dogs lie.
>and the shitposting waifu war threads
But imagine the new stream of doujins.
I've really been wanting to try Ranma 1/2 and Urusei Yatsura, but the episode count really puts me off. Is the manga a good alternative or should I just watch them?
isn't lum like, over 60 years old?
I think you're confusing american rehash industry with japan's.
Most reboots are pretty good, mainly because they are directed by people who grew up obsessed with the original series.
See Yamato, Harlock, Some of the Nagai series.
Plus, most of the great eps in UY were filler.
And the best movies were the ones that got away from source material like Only You, Beautiful Dreamer and Lum the Forever.
The nice doujinshi wouldn't be enough to counteract all the negative bullshit from all the daily waifu war threads being slapped all over the first page every fucking day.
But most people tend to agree in the best Ranma girls in one way or another.
Sailor Moon will be far worse, and that is happening for real.
It's a good alternative for Ranma, but most people will tell you to watch UY anime because it actually adds a lot interesting stuff.
Some purist will tell you that the manga is better, but it would be a shame to miss the anime (however be aware that the begining of the series have some bad episodes, but it get better trust me).
>Passing up the chance for a good anime because of some event that will just happen with some other show on some imageboard.
If it's not Ranma, it'll be some other anime, and even if it only happens because of Ranma,it's just 4chan.
Yeah, most people agree on Ukyo and Shampoo as best girls but then you'll get a hand full of super assblasted Akane fans that start fan-wanking about how she's better and she and Ranma are "MADE FOR EACHOTHER". Once that starts all the Shampoo and Ukyo fags start lowering their IQ levels and take the bait.
It already happens now but it gets contained because so few people post and eventually fizzles out. Imagine the same shit but 10 times worst and always in your face.
>If it's not Ranma, it'll be some other anime,
Then let it happen to some other anime. I like Ranma and UY and it doesn't need to be possible ruined just because people can't be satisfied with what they have. They're both stories that don't need to be rehashed again.
Alright, thanks. I might just watch an episode of each a night or something.
I wish Shampoo was in the Anniversary OVA. I really wanted to see these two interact.
Well Shampoo did steal Ataru just to prove a point in Ranma, that she had the phoenix cure.
source on op's pic? i love me some cat girls in bikinis
she looks like a cat
She's a tiger Oni. She is a catgirl by nature. Just like Shampoo.
i think i dropped out after episode 10 back in 2006... nigga u sure it gets better from there?
Didn't he also write Mermaid Saga ?
>Ranma after Happosai was introduced
And it was going so well.
UY starts getting good after about 20 episodes, when the ED changes and they stop doing two part episodes.
I really enjoyed Ranma's ending arc, that FINAL ATTACK SKY DRAGON PUNCH really felt good.[
>Well Shampoo did steal Ataru just to prove a point in Ranma
I think that must be his fanfiction idea. It's a good one if he knows how to write.
Ryoko is best girl.
Shampoo was proving she had the cure to Ranma, threw a dog into hot water, and turned into this.
I remember that episode and I never remembered this guy.
Might as well be.
I kind of like Brown girl Ginger.
Can't believe she never got married. She's rich as fuck and not a single guy wanted to tap that.
She probably has a great ass.
That's not how you type worst girl.
NO REMAKES PLS
This looks fucking deplorable.
Was live-action Ranma any good? That one was more forgiveable anyway since it's a comedy first and foremost, but MI does not deserve to be turned into a venue for hack TV writers and obnoxious "tarento" to show off.
I would understand the hate if it was a full length TV serie, but those are just silly one shot special.
No need to get upset, nobody is gonna remenber them anyway.
WTF? Which filthy hole on tumblr did you dig this image from?
What's the matter, can't handle the 5 TONE SHADING?
Take the bait, motherfucker, I dare you.
>2011 + 3
>still using "le epic bait meme"
I clearly remember typing "4chan.org/a/" and not "4chan.org/v/" so why am I seeing this shit here?
Why does every 80s series have like 150 episodes jesus christ
>one shot special
Oh, I didn't know this. Thanks, I can feel the butthurt subsiding.
It's all the better if it's good.
And UY is fucking great.
shit mayne our standard 12-episode anime of today was like 52 back then... mostly mahou shoujo anime
