Why is Accel World so underrated? I'd have to say that its at least on par with its "predecessor" Sword Art Online. Correct me if I'm wrong by the way.
SAO kiddies didn't want to self-insert into the fatty.
Accel World is leagues better than SAO.
The MC is a short and fat piece of shit.
>Sword Art Online
I would say Log Horizon and Accel Word are much better than SAO
Accel isn't underrated. It's shit.
I watched a bit of log horizon. I didn't like it much. It just screamed "NOT SWORD ART ONLINE NOT SWORD ART ONLINE". It just seemed annoying to me because everything was predictable/unoriginal
THE BEATS OVERWRITE MY WHOLE LIFE
It is not "at least on par." Accel World is clearly better in a lot of aspects. The story is better, the animation is better, the girls are better, the OST is better. Only Haru is on par with Kirito due to the fact that both are on opposite extreme spectrum of Otaku's self-insert.
Don't group Log Horizon with harem shit like AW
Because fatty is an omega male.
Even the author has says Accel World is his better work.
Do you think the order the anime came in was the order they were written in?
That's what I thought at first, but I gave it a chance and turns out the show is great and the story is awesome.
I like Log Horizon but I'm bored with the screen time for those brats and annoyed at all that glasses touching.
Don't group Accel World with that shit.
Lol im loving that gif. And I am not sure. All i can say is that there's bound to be one since there is so much left out from the first season.
I gave it a chance too. I think I got up to episode 10 and just couldn't deal with the kid anymore.
You know it's coming mate, don't kid yourself.
Personally, thats sadly one of the reasons that keeps me from watching that show. I hate the stupid glasses push up shit and the weird glare that they animate onto his glasses. It just annoys me in general.
I'd rather have a new Toy Story movie than a new season of this shit anime
Soundtrack was god tier, that is for sure.
>Feb 10, 2009
>April 10, 2009
After SAO season 2?
I don't think he ever said this.
He said he created Haru, to be the opposite of Kirito, but he's never showed any preference to either. (You know.. Other than the fact that SAO gets more attention than AW...)
The Novel was PUBLISHED in 2009.
He wrote the web-novel for SAO back in 2001
agreeeed. I love the second set of songs. (For the last half 12 episodes)
>Fuck I'm bored
>Gonna go on /a/ to see if there are some bros
>See this thread
You're my bro.
The fact that Sword Art gets so much more praise and attention, Im not doubting it. I just wish people would give Accel World a chance and not just say "NO CUZ THERES A FATASS IN IT"
In what episode the MC stopped being a little bitch?
Fucking love this GIF. Makes me laugh every time. I honestly thought that whole scene was too adorable.
>mfw Haru didn't go full moralfag at the end and wrecked Noumi's shit
Its good to know that there are some people out there actually enjoy this good show
Why is she so perfect.
>Reki Kawahara wrote the first volume in 2002 as a competition entry for ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Game Novel Prize (電撃ゲーム小説大賞 Dengeki Game Shōsetsu Taishō?, now Dengeki Novel Prize), but refrained from submitting it as he had exceeded the page limit. He instead published it as a web novel under the pseudonym Fumio Kunori. Over time, he added three further volumes and several short stories. In 2008, he participated in the competition again by writing Accel World, this time winning the Grand Prize. Aside from Accel World, he was requested to get his earlier work, Sword Art Online, published by ASCII Media Works. Kawahara agreed and withdrew his web novel versions. The republication as a paper novel began on April 10, 2009. The paper novel excluded chapter 16.5 of volume 1 of the web novel, due to its explicit nature, which was originally a fan fiction of his own work. On October 10, 2012, the first volume of the Sword Art Online: Progressive series was released. Progressive covers Kirito's adventures on the first and second floors of Aincrad, and includes a rewrite of two side stories: "Aria in the Starless Night" and "Rondo of the Transient Sword". A second volume was published on December 10, 2013. At their Japan Expo USA panel, Yen Press announced the rights to publish the light novels; the first volume is scheduled for April 22, 2014.
Accel World was a lot of fun; I really miss it.
i was expecting him to give noumi another chance. But im happy he killed that bitch
Who gives a shit if AW isn't popular with casuals? It sold pretty good so we can get a second season, I don't need anything else
This shit was posted for fucking months even after the show was done. Never gonna watch it.
Reki doesn't give villains second chances.
What do you think this is? Naruto?
Do you want a medal or something? A plaque that says, 'I hate things that people enjoy'?
I remember being so fucking upset at Chiyu during the Dusk Taker arc then this moment happens
Jesus Christ, he is so cute.
Figs when? I already got a KYH on my shelf; I'd love to have a Fuuko join her.
Same. I was thinking he was exploiting her sexually or something to make her do such terrible things.
>Why is Accel World so underrated?
Because piggy's fat.
Even Kawahara recognizes this.
>- Haruyuki was designed to be fat in order to portray the complete opposite image of acceleration
>- He did not make Haruyuki fat so that the character would have a complex just for a story
>fatty omega male gets a harem and the popular girl
>not an otaku self-insert
Such a good OP
Well some people are not that shallow and can enjoy a show with a character thats not exactly like Kirito. The story revolves around a kid who has lost his confidence and goes against all odds to overcome conflict. Theres a reason why hes not perfect.
>implying Otaku are fat
or you mean those greasy americans who call themselves otaku but japan don't make anime for those people
Oh man, how did I miss that the first time around?
AGREED ITS AMAZING!
> Bad reading comprehension.
He meant Otaku want to self-insert in this anime, but many can't due to the little piggy design.
I didn't like Accel World because nothing felt like it had any weight. (apart from the MC, hue)
If they run out of points all that happens is they lose the game, and become the same as everyone else in the world.
Additionally, I find the game pretty shitty, and everyone and their mother can hack the thing to stay off the player list.
Lets not forget the awesome ending song.
Dunno about you, but I can't self-insert because I hate fat people with a fucking passion.
>the same as anime otaku
>but.. only americans are fat! otaku are pure nippon master race!
Don't forget the OST.
Oh god, I can smell them from here.
>Addicted as fuck gamers lose memories of their favorite game that is arguably as important as their live and can never play it again
Plus they lose the Acceleration and the additional commands, sounds pretty heavy to me
It the fact that he would lose the one thing that allowed him to escape and be accepted. Also, if he lost the game, he would lose all of his memories with kuroyukihime. So he pretty much would go back to being the lonely bullied fat kid. He would lose that relationship with the one girl that gave him a chance (besides Chiyu who was already taken at the time).
>One of these is not like the others.jpeg
They have their memories wiped, which can equate to more years than their physical body in a lot of cases
>back to being a normal person
>can't even remember what you lost, so you're not even sad about it
>oh no, I can't cheat at life anymore
I have no fucks to give.
That guy from bottom left can't be real
Some people had spent years accelerated. If you lose all your points you would lose years worth of memories. Not to mention the memories of all the relationships that have been created or furthered because of the game.
>I didn't like Accel World because nothing felt like it had any weight
Are you saying that you like SAO more? You know that most anons will agree, SAO was too 'tryhard' in its premise; or rather, in the way that premise was executed. Just 'having weight' doesn't necessarily make something good or bad.
I can see how you would be disappointed in AW if you went in expecting something serious, but that's not really what the intention was in the first place. There's a bit of tension, enough to keep the plot moving, but I saw it as being more 'stupid fun' for the viewer than anything else. And at that, it excelled.
So which subs are best for this?
I like the first one more. Still, all the music in this show was good.
Now I want to re watch it.
I would have preferred to see Haruyuki as how he really is, rather than a stylized version of himself.
I don't remember saying a god damn thing about SAO.
But if you want to know my opinion on it.
I liked SAO for the first few episodes, and then things went to shit for me. The MC was revealed to be the self-insert perfection machine. The show got derailed into shitty romance with vanilla girl. Then came the asspull ending and the horribad second arc. I feel like it had lots of potential, but would have to be redone from the ground up to work.
>I feel like it had lots of potential, but would have to be redone from the ground up to work.
If I remember right, Kawahara is doing just that.
That feel when you get to witness one of the most satisfying defeats.
Exactly my point. I know you didn't mention SAO, but it's an especially handy example in this case.
You said you didn't like AW because it didn't have enough 'weight', and I was just pointing out that such 'weight' doesn't necessarily make or break a series. The execution matters more, as well as the viewer's expectations.
And that's not sayin' much
I dont understand why they are making Kirito a girl though. I hope I dont see Accel World going into that ecchi fan service category like SAO is. Occasional fan service is fine I guess.
Remove the fatso = aots.
Bretty gud but kept afloat solely by Kuroyukihime
It doesn't necessarily make a series, but it does necessarily break a series. If the viewer doesn't feel like anything that's going on matters, it will break the series. This is part of execution. Not just expectations.
You clearly don't understand what he said.
Kawahara has another Light Novel, SAO Progressive, that's meant to cover the clearing of Aincrad, from floor 1.
As for the girl thing... It's more of a gag, really. In the Light Novel, he's already described as being feminine in appearance. But GGO got him stuck with a girly avatar, so that best-girl will mistake him for one...
Going back to the MC of Accel world, not to be gay or anything but, was I the only one who found Hariyuki kinda "cute" after getting to know him a bit. Come on, hes a short little kid who just wants to make friends and save the woman he loves. Come on! look at that H on his jacket.
But what if you go in expecting some stupid fun? It absolutely is dependant on one's expectations, unless you think that an anime has to be serious to be enjoyable. But if I just want to enjoy some overblown action, or some cute girls doing cute things, or some sex jokes, then a lack of weight and dramatic tension won't break the series at all.
My friend refuses to watch it despite loving SAO just because Haru is fat.
Though I think a lot of /a/ was like that while it was airing. Personally I love the series and watched the anime four times.
>refusing to pick up a series just because of one character's design
To this day, still one of the most nonsensical widespread opinions I've seen on /a/.
dang now thats dedication
Some people have an irrational hatred of or disgust with fat people that prevents them from overlooking that particular flaw.
Meanwhile they claim Shinji "Damn, that unconscious girl is hot!" Ikari is just misunderstood.
My friend doesn't want to watch Kaiji because he says the "graphics" are shit. He doesn't want to watch Madoka either because of the widefaces
>not liking widefaces
>B-but his cartoony design doesn't fit the serious and deep SAO themes!
Sounds like /v/ermin; you should slip some cyanide in his Mt Dew and be rid of him.
They are idol otaku.
Only if you compare it to SAO. I personally find AW more interesting than SAO. The cast is just more likable and the setting and concept is more fun. It has comedy and harem elements, but also it can be serious without the need of life and death circumstances.
People play and want to level up for power, wealth, and glory in the real world by exploiting BB. And if you lose, you'll forever lose any chance to have obtain them, so it's serious in that way. Plus, all players have some kind of trauma or physical issues/scars, so that adds an intrigue about the nature of the game and why such game exists and for what purpose.
If you're disgusted by something you're disgusted by it. There's no point calling it rational or irrational.
I could make an argument about people being attracted to healthiness and unattracted to unhealthiness because of evolutionary pressures, but I won't bother.
People need to get over the fat thing. A lot of people (like myself) dislike him for his personality. As for his looks, the only thing that I dislike about him is that he doesn't fit into the world. It's like he's a different style from the rest of the world/cast. I wouldn't care about him being short and fat if he at least fit in.
I like Haru drawn that way because he looks adorable instead of looking disgusting
>he doesn't fit into the world
because he's too fat
Way too many people hate the series because the MC is fat. Many don't even watch passed the first episode. So, that type of hate is stupid.
Your opinion aside, I think a lot of people would have a different opinion if they watched the whole show to see Haru's character development. Sure, Haru started as a "beta" and was "sad" to watch at the start, but he got over that and manned up some pretty quick. He's quite smart and can get shit done without backing down from fear when he sets to be determined. He works hard and tries to better himself for KYH'. He holds the same feelings (on a philosophical level) as KYH does in how a game should be played and cleared on a level, so he's doing a lot of that for himself, and not simply out of guilt or because he feels indebted.
Graphite Edge is best AW character.
>Riding along a beach at sunset with Ash Roller
Gets me every time
Never let it go. Never lose my way~
SAO is better.
I remember how hype that made me that Ash Roller would be making another appearance
>Mfw he cared more about getting to try out his new aerial missiles than winning
Truly the greatest OTP of all time, ever.
Aren't they like, an elementary school girl, or something in real life?
KYH is perfect. Watch it for her.
Really wish he had a bigger on-screen role. It sort of implied that they had fought many times we didn't see. Wish we got to see some more of their fights.
I think what annoys a lot of people about Haru isn't that he's fat, but that he's fat and pretty much like any other animu MC.
Like when all the girls fall for bland mcfuckface in generic animu harem #013598-B, it's annoying but usually they have some sort of self confidence and always have a decent physique. Haru has fuck all and he's rolling in pussy
>loli ash roller
>rides around town on a little tricycle.
What bothered me about it, is that he was fat, and a fucking cry baby.
Once I got past that, it was pretty fun.
>she flicks you off
BD specials were the best
>Her dynamo turns on
>THIS IS MEGA COOL!
>Haru has fuck all and he's rolling in pussy
Sure he's fat, but he's:
- a 1337 gamer
-not as dense as a neutron star.
-brave enough to fight for his friends(even if those friends are trying to take him down)
Oh god I knew it was coming but that didn't prepare me for the satisfaction of that scene.
I personally liked accel world quite a bit. Much more than SAO which I ended up dropping.
Is it just me or does Ash Roller remind you of Kamina from Gurren Lagann??
Just saying that all things happen for a reason. Even fat people rolling in pussy.
They are in 8th and 7th grade I believe>>101048890
I can kind of see it a bit actually, less noble off the bat, but the stuff he was saying to Haru when he was down was a lot like Kaminas dumb but true logic.
Plus I think if Kamina played Accel World, his playstyle and outlook would be more similar to AR than any other character
Ash Roller sacrifice incoming
Not saying I approve. But it might mean a bro-style tag team match against a late series boss. Which'd be cool.
So hey guys. Apparently, before Reki published the first book of Accel World, he had a draft of it up on his site.
So yeah, towards the end of the draft, apparently, KYH gave Haru her real name.
Kuroyukihime's real name (in the draft) was Kuroba Yukiko, (黒羽雪子)
Though, it seems when he published it, this was removed.
Of course, it could change in the actual LN. (Or never show up at all..)
>before Reki published the first book of Accel World, he had a draft of it up on his site.
This is just what I heard. Though, it only applied to the first book.
I'm honestly surprised that no one brought that up at the Sakura-con Q&A he did last year.
Doesn't Sky Raker call her by some kind of nickname beginning with Sa? Or was that Sky Raker's nickname?
Well my guess it's not very well known, considering it was only up for a short while. But apparently you can find it in some archives of his site. Someone I know posted the excerpt I put above.
Yeah, apparently she calls her Sa-chan. Could just be a nickname, or like I said, it could be completely different in the LN.
Well since this thread is pretty much dead, lets see what you all think about Infinite Stratos!
Get the fuck out
hahaha that's what I thought
>Linking the OST
>Not linking Silver Wing
>Not linking Iron Will ("Fix on! GALE THRUSTER!!!")
>Not linking Silvery Wings ("Welcome back...")
This is kind of ironic coming from a group of people who hate SAO because it's popular.
Pretty sure AW fans hate SAO because it's getting a second season~
Not everyone here hates SAO. That person is speaking for his/her self. No one else
Come on, guys. You could put Kirito and a NerveGear in the OP, then scroll past to show technology advancing to the present day. And have Lotus mention the SAO incident or something. That would draw people in, right?
Or heck, there's always the Versus story...
S2 possibly announced in march
cross your fingers
Reki has acknowledged that there are many references between the two series, to each other. However, he also says there is currently NO CONNECTION to the two.
He at one point mentioned that he may consider eventually writing a third series, that would connect SAO and AW together, but that's merely a possibility.
niggas dont know bout muh waifu
I can see him getting over his family issues near the end then losing weight. He is like Punpun except he isn't a bird he is eric cartman.
>Not liking Accel World
Dengeki Bunko event in march almost guaranteed to announce S2 for some of their titles
SAO got announced first because more popular
We just might get S2
y'all niggas ready for an image dump?
You guys and the Horizon guys can have a cagematch to see who gets a next season.
I am just curious how the author feels his early work is getting new seasons but now he is actually trying to put more effort in his writing but the show isn't as popular and might not even get a second season. Or is it because Sao is so popular he doesn't care as long as he is making money.
why not both
also Horizon is on my to watch list, so soon I might be a bothfag
Please do. There ares just not enough KYH pictures out there,
Mazinger Z was something Go Nagai wrote as a side-project and didn't really take seriously. Look how that turned out.
Because Sunrise bathes in your tears.
>Because Sunrise bathes in your tears.
>no more Gintama for the foreseeable future
you're damn right they do
No I don't know how that turned out. Care to give a quick summarry I am not getting much from google.
I am reading the manga, seems to me that he made Asuna the MC here. She finally got a personality though I don't know if I like it.
You will never have a cute chubby-chaser make you her waifu ;_;
No tits = shit
I like both, but Accel World probably needs it more because it has more action scenes. If I had to stick to the LNs for Log Horizon, it doesn't seem as big a loss.
It's by far his most well-known work, and accidentally invented the entire "piloted giant robot" genre. And they're still making spinoffs of Mazinger Z itself (like Robot Girls Z this season).
You need to look harder.
The Progressive Manga isn't a perfect adaption of the LN. Though, I guess it's still amusing.
Horizon =/= Log Horizon, you fag.
Huh? What's this I hear?
I'm gonna steal you're waifu, senpai.
At least he became retarded moe after being mind broken so its A-okay.
>The Progressive Manga isn't a perfect adaption of the LN.
I heard the manga had some parts added in, but does it cut some things?
The Progressive manga isn't really an adaptation of the LN, per se. The most notable difference is that the LN is mostly from Kirito's perspective, while the manga is mostly from Asuna's.
Wow. Sunrise doesn't even make LH.
The Progressive manga is basically Aria from Asuna's POV so far. It cuts and adds a lot as a result of this.
At least 50% of Taku's lines are innuendo. And that's before taking the OVA into account.
It added quite a few parts for the sake of humor. It didn't cut out TOO much, but keep in mind, like >>101055364 said, it's not really meant to be an adaption. It's more of a retelling from Asuna's perspective.
That being said, they still seem to have changed a lot of things. It's CONSIDERABLY closer to the Light Novel, than the Anime, but the artist still took some liberties.
I was expecting him to get skinny or work out to try to become a better person in the course of the anime, it never happened so I checked the LN and even in the latest volume he is still fat.
Is that a pile bunker or are you just happy to see me?
I see, well I like the pacing in progressive more, it's not a bad read maybe i'll check out the LN. What is the author expecting to do with this re-telling if the original is still on-going?
The SAO wiki has the changes the Manga made, in their adaption notes.
Still made you all rage for weeks.
I want to post the gif of you getting rekt but it appears someone else already did
Progressive is meant to go back, and tell what happened as Aincrad was being cleared, without the obscene time-skips (other than the 2 month time skip, between the first day, and right before the 1st floor is cleared)
So far he's released two books, though i'm curious if he's going to increase his pace. (73 books, one a year is not a good idea.)
I marathoned this last year because I had no internet for about a week and ran out of things to do. It was surprisingly good and Haru grew on me despite being a fat dwarf. By the end of the series he was this alpha dude going around kicking ass and taking names. Much better than that SAO soap opera
You know, even if Kawahara's villains are hammy as fuck, they're so fun to hate. Noumi was such a shit. SUCH A SHIT.
>2 month time skip
What, you don't want three and a half more decades of SAO?
>it's on par with its predecessor
you got that right
they're both shit
at least Accel World has a pretty nice OST
nigga my rage still hasn't subsided, fuck him and fuck you for posting him
Damn I see.
Ah so it's not suppose to retell it, it's just more info about it.
Oh right. 1 month. Huh... Don't know where I got 2.
And no, I'd rather not wait until I'm in my 50s to 60s when I finally finish the series.
My guess is, after the main story slows down/ends, he'll start releasing most Progressive per year. There's also how some floors (like the 22nd) were passed in a matter of days, without anything important happening. So those would be rather short books (or the books would contain stuff about multiple floors.)
>you now realize that her legs arent real.
I hope there's a Black Cats of the Full Moon arc that lasts at least an entire volume.
>Black Cats of the Full Moon
>Using crappy translation derived from a double translation, of a crappy translation.
it wasn't a masterpiece, but it was leagues better than SAO. The NTR shit can fuck off though. Ruined the ending of the show for me.
Kawahara loves NTR.
Well, he likes using NTR to make the audience hate the villain even more.
I kinda got that after the end of SAO. It's a shitty way of manipulating the audience. But I guess I can't expect brilliant writing from the guy who wrote SAO.
I still use Cline from time to time, it can't be helped.
You mean Houki Shinonono?
Yeah, in SAO, the NTR Villains got progressively worst.
With Kuradeel you know that he wanted to have fun with Asuna, but it wasn't really as explicit.
Sugou harasses her for most of the arc, until the very end, where he molests her out-right, and says he'll rape her real body.
With Shinkawa, it sort of tones down (I think..? haven't read Phantom Bullet in a long time. might reread it soon.) but he still ends up wanting to screw her, but also wants to kill her (necrophilia much?)
Then we get to Alicization.
For one, there's the brain-washing of Alice, but that's not really sexual.
However, Humbert and Raios flat out try to rape Ronye and Teise, after drugging them, and tying them up. (And apparently, in the web-novel the "attempted rape" was successful. So I guess his Editor had him tone it down)
Kawahara wants to be hardcore, but his editor won't let him.
Anyways, guys, Accel World thread. Accel World. We can shitpost in our own godawful SAO threads some other time.
Sword Art Online got my hopes up only to disappoint me horribly
Episode 1 was pretty decent, did a good job of introducing the MC and the world
Episode 2 was really good, had a really nice MMO feel to it with everyone working together to take down the boss, but I knew something was wrong when I saw the ending, from the moment Kirito put on that stupid cloak I got this really bad feeling
I guess I just thought that I would be seeing more of everyone working together to take down the boss monsters rather than watching the adventures of Gary Stu, the boss slayer!
AW was just kinda meh the whole way through for me though so I find myself less disappointed in it overall but I think quality wise both shows are about the same.
yeah, yeah. NTR shit aside. I would be up for a second season. The fighting was flashy and fun, and the whole videogame/superpower premise was fairly interesting. Even if it was excessively shounen
One of the better LN adaptations out there. Also nice fight scene.
Still don't understand why people hate Haru because he's fat.
its because its a different style that clashes with the other style if he fit into it I am sure every faggot would pick this up.
I really hope their gonna animate this fight.
you are supposed to self insert into little girls only
It as a decent shounen, which by itself makes it leagues better than SAO.
Haru's design is still kinda dumb, though. I got over it, but I don't understand how it ever got okayed in the first place.
They don't fight, Haru just attacks him once. The actual fight is against Iron Pound.
>oh no the fat faggot is going to save that guy with the force of friendship
>HOLY SHIT BEST ANIME EVER
holy shit that sword is awesome
does he keep it?
I love Horizon but Sunrise needs a break from Kawakami's autism.
He did scratch his shield.
Kawakami is really into his series. The dance fight in episode 9 was choreographed using Kawakami as a reference. He also apparently modeled out the ship the characters all travel on, and brought it to Sunrise.
Because insecure people are turned off by the MC appearance and there are some cliches which people hate. Otherwise this series is alright.
How is the translation going?
KYH is perfect
