I was greatly disappointed when it was revealed humans could shift into titans. It wasn't what I expected given the handful of the earlier episodes were so great focusing on the struggles of humanity trying to come together in the face of an existential threat. I feel like kids with powers are going to ultimately end up trivializing that theme. I just wanted more humanity, fuck yeah! And less shonen bullshit. Does it get better or will the series take a nosedive?
PROTIP: the walls are titans too
Everything is Titan.
>I expected a zombie movie with giants
No, I expected Independence Day with giants.
Just finished the anime and manga myself, and fuck I need answers. Speculations anybody?
What I think
It's post-apocalyptic, but not in the nuclear war sense. It's mentioned in the series how fighting the titans brought humanity together from fighting with themselves to focus on another threat. The titans are man-made, but they weren't supposed to almost wipe-out humanity, merely pose a big enough threat to get other countries to stop fighting, but something went wrong etc etc
The Titans in the wall are actually protecting humanity. The wall cult doesn't want the wall to be broken and let these titans free because that could potentially enable humanity to venture outside the walls, and away from the monarchy. There is an established class order and little to no resistance against the crown. The nobles and the priests are very well off in a situation where humanity must remain with the walls and pay them for protection.
Eren's dad has information about how humanity created the titans, and potentially how to stop them, all locked up in his basement. His dad hasn't been seen since the incident, and is either outside the walls researching the outside world/possibly making contact with other humans, or still locked up in the basement conducting research.
Just wait till the manga's finished, and cry over your shitty answers while the author runs off with piles of jew gold.
I hope my answers are shitty, I don't want it to end up like that. I just finished the series and want to talk about it though, and hear other people's speculations
I relatively enjoyed SnK up until Eren turned into a Titan...and then there were 4 or 5 episodes of bullshit in a row and I stopped watching. And judging from threads on /a/, it only gets worse as it continues.
It had a cool and original premise at first, but it seems to have devolved into edgy shonen "I WILL KILL THEM ALL" bullshit.
A friend of mine told me that SnK was amazing and it kept on surprising him over and over. And this is coming from a guy who's watched even more animu than I have. I don't listen to his opinions anymore.
Basically you got bait and switched, the entire series from now on will be about Shymalan level twists and no one important getting hurt. The David vs Goliath story of survival against all odds was never going to happen.
>OP wanted "The walking Titans"
Titan shifters are the best part of this story. doing a giant sized zombie story would be kicking a dead horse.
>doing a giant sized zombie story would be kicking a dead horse.
Would it though?
I don't think there's a single other anime that involves humans vs giants, and doesn't involve mechs.
There's already a thread for manga discussion, just check the catalog, and try to avoid bait threads like this one next time.
>And judging from threads on /a/, it only gets worse as it continues.
So you only saw bait threads and IRC threads?
You seem like a clever individual, good for you.
I should've said posts, not threads. Nearly everything I've ever heard about AoT on /a/ has been negative. And seeing as I'm not particularly enjoying it so far, I figured it was pretty safe to stop watching.
it was always pretty shonen-like anon
just look at levi, he's basically sasuke but not a complete dick
It gets way more love than hate though, I don't know if we're browsing the same board.
>And seeing as I'm not particularly enjoying it so far, I figured it was pretty safe to stop watching
Yeah, I didn't mention anything about yourself, do as you please. I was just talking about the general consensus on the board.
Sure but it would get old. you can only watch so many people get eaten by titans before you want to move on to a story with more substance.
That happens to me too. I expected humans fighting against titans for survival, not titansuits against titans while normal humans are simply food.
Hey that's exactly my complaint. To bad it was always a shounen despite looking kind or like a seinen, its aimed at 12-14 boys who like be superheroes.
It gets really better, since that's what you're asking.
