So after seeing all the praise for Mushishi, I've watched it, and I must say, I'm pretty disappointed. I'm not saying it was bad, the Mushi cases were pretty imaginative, but there was no emotional response from me to the episodes. Also, loads of sameface and blankface. And this is coming from a guy who loved Kino no Tabi. Am I missing something here?
Maybe fantasy isn't your genre
>no emotional response from me to the episodes
This might be a problem on your end.
No emotional response? How? A huge part of Mushishi is the shit situations people get put in because of mushi.
I don't fucking know, normally, I'm very sentimental. I just didn't feel anything special at Mushishi, and some episodes ended just like "everything resolved on their own and they lived happily ever after"
Maybe your expectations were too high or you watched it too quickly.
>there was no emotional response from me to the episodes
Nothing wrong with that. It's as much about the atmosphere as anything else. If you can take all the cases separately and view them as just phenomena, that's a really valid way to watch it
Guess it would have been different if I watched this weekly with /a/, talking about every episode. I didn't like marathon it, watched it in like 4 or 5 days. I expected to like it at least like I did like Kino no Tabi.
You have your chance next season with season 2
See, when you go into a show thinking "this better be as good as X show that I love" then you're already sabotaging that show. You'll never be able to expand your horizons if you only watch new shows subjectively.
It couldn't be avoided with that much praise around Mushishi. I see it on like 70% of people's 3x3s for fucks sake.
Also, the fact that almost every single character's face looks the same really bothered me
I think Mushishi is something that you have to watch before going to sleep and not through marathon, maybe one episode per day. Its peaceful setting and the atmosphere are like a lullaby for a calm and quiet sleep.
I cried like a little bitch when I was watching it, OP has no feelings
Also, I didn't watch the special yet, how is it?
You didn't like the show, why would an extra long episode be any different?
Give it a try, you might like it.
I didn't say I didn't like it, I said it didn't live up to my expectations. Guess I'll comfy up some time and watch that.
Your taste aint refine enough
You have an advanced case of shit taste, seek medical attention.
Your enjoyment was spoiled by your expectations, I feel kind of bad
Any time you say "I'm not saying it's bad, but" it means you didn't like it. Don't be so maddeningly passive about it. No one show is for everyone.
>"everything resolved on their own and they lived happily ever after"
>everything resolved on their own and they lived happily ever after
How many times did that even happen?
>loads of sameface and blankface
Truly the biggest issue about Mushishi.
This episode it did, and even then, it was painfully bittersweet.
OP seems to be implying that these mushi will never bother humans again, when this is an anime about life. There are no happy endings. The point of Mushishi is that messy shit happens in life and you just have to put up with it.
Saying that these people lived happily ever after is ridiculous.
What anime were you watching? Because it sure wasn't Mushishi.
Same thing happened to me with Ghost in the Shell, too. I'll watch SAC and see how that turns out
That's pretty much how I felt about it as well, OP.
At least there's the second season for us to try, nigga
if you didn't like the movie, you're not gonna like SAC
The samefaces are indeed a problem. I find that the merit in Mushishi is in the individual episodes. It is the general psyche of the MC and the way he deals with problems that is simply interesting to follow. However the real attraction is how the individual stories are all so tasteful, realistic and introspective.
I can't recall all of my favourites but I loved the one with the guy chasing the rainbows, and of course I liked the "dreams coming to reality" episode.
I like Mushishi's style but I agreed with OP.
So where do you find all episodes of this? I searched for them and there are supposed to be 26 episodes, I can find only 1 though
You find them on the DVD box set, which is still being produced and sold at a discount as far as I'm aware.
On the other hand, if you're broke and can tolerate mediocre streaming, http://kissanime.com/Anime/Mushishi/
You should never hype a show. Always do the opposite of hyping, so that when youw atch it, you get a better experience.
When you're hyping a show, instead of enjoying it, you're constantly trying to evaluate every little thing in it. Every scene, every word and every character (even secondary) you're trying to evaluate. And when you see a small flaw, you'll be making it a bigger deal that it is.
You probably found the OVA.
Go on piratebay, there's the whole BD rip there.
Read the comments to know how to fix the audio sync on episode 6.
I came into this thread fully expecting that Kino's Journey > Mushishi pasta.
i they're both great. Not enough crossover pics.
what the fuck are you talking about? did you even watch the same Mushishi as me?
True that. I've ruined many a (supposedly) good show overhyped by /a/ this way - went to watch it after seeing all the attention and positive views and then completely hated it and dropped it early on in the series.
Alpha should be replaced with Kuro (shoulder-a-coffin) - she fits in much better with the traveller theme than Alpha.
It's all on Nyaa. Like most things.
OP has shit taste, nothing new to see here.
That's exactly what I did.
But I do that with every anime.
your problem is you don't need to marathon it, its one of those anime like Aria, where you have to watch 1 episode at a time, after a hard day of work or simply on a rainy day
more like Mushish-zzzzzzzzzz...
more like mushishit, am i rite?
I don't really understand the sameface complaint. The few characters that show up more than once are pretty unique and easy to remember. All of the others never really caused a problem for me.
The author draws asians like asians. I think it's refreshing.
