>Akira is expected to be developed into two live action films with the first scheduled for a summer 2009 release
>Ruairi Robinson is directing in his feature film debut
>Leonardo DiCaprio will produce the film
>It has been rumored that Leonardo DiCaprio could be playing the lead Kaneda.
What the fuck. I'm actually looking forward to this but at the same time I want to rage.
but lol at DBZ live action being delayed till April next year cause of 'original release date put in competition with four other films' I think 20th fox realised how much fail the film is going to be and delayed it so it can be heavily edited or some shit
I want to see it
I'm still looking forward to Speed Racer.
Nothing will ever top this.
FOR THE FUCKING LAST TIME, IT'S DRAGONBALL NOT DRAGONBALL Z.
I'm going to remain dubiously optimistic about all the live action/anime movies that are coming out for a while. I'm going to see them because I'm a fan, but I will probably be raging the entire time.
It will be shit anyway, what the hell is wrong with you?
If you can watch that (Speed Racer trailer) without raging, then you are a greater man than I.

the fact that they're basing it off of the books and not the movie shows they at least care somewhat about being faithful to the original content. But i KNOW kaneda's bike is gonna be replaced with some generic existing red bike and it's gonna be fucked up
So I guess Hollywood has ditched super heroes in favor of animu.
My pico in 2012.
lol, we're getting a Ninja Scroll live action movie too.
Where the fuck's my Pokemon live action?
Meh, the first Akira movie wasn't very good anyway, considering it tried to mash in 6 XBOX HUEG books into a 120-minute film. I actually feel somewhat optimistic about this film, but the fact that they have it in the hands of a director and a screenwriter that have virtually no track record to speak of is a little worrisome.
Still, I'm willing to give it a fair chance. Before LotR, Peter Jackson was only known for doing cheap B-movie splatterfests and I would never have guessed that he would impress me the way he did with that trilogy. I don't expect to be impressed with Akira, but I do hope so.
