What was the first anime you watched /a/?
And I'm not talking about the popular shows like Sailor moon/naruto/bleach whatever.
The first show you took your own initiative, searched up and watched?
Pic related for me.
Kite. It fucked me up as I was like 10 or so. Not sure what I was thinking looking back.
what's that one?
I was introduced to cowboy bebop by a friend. after that, I think trigun was the first one I searched for on my own.
Although the first anime I watched was Yu-Gi-Oh, the first anime I really watched myself was Ginban Kaleidoscope (although I did watch several series on Animax). After a gap of several years, I watched Special A. Then I decided to go more otaku, and watched Clannad and Madoka. The rest is history.
i think most people "took up the initiative" to watch naruto, bleach and so on, since they weren't on western tv at the time they were most popular. for me it was ghibli movies and then naruto and love hina, i think
First time I used Kazaa too...
Haruhi, if Miyazaki movies don't count.
Slayers (then Next and Try) I think in 2001 when it was subtitled on the international channel. That was my only source for anime apart from toonami, and around when I first started screwing with the internet.
I barely remember anything.
The girl from OPs pic is from Love hina. Harem anime.
Shuffle! and also accidentally okusama wa joshi kousei
It's amazing that I kept watching anime after these..
>didn't know where to get anime
>go to /a/ and lurk
>"post your anime folder" thread
>someone asks how some anon got multiple GBs of anime
>anon says he downloaded Coalgirls
>think it's because Coalgirls has a lot of releases
Lucky Star because it was the most recommended.
I'm surprised it wasn't Boku no pico...
You posted mine.
Also posting best girl, why is Naru so based?
I honestly don't remember.
I guess bleach because a friend recommended it to me and I never heard of it before. After that it was just random samplings of shows I only watched 1 or 2 episodes of.
Something like Dragon ball or Saint Seiya, or whatever French TV had to show when I was in age to chose what to watch on TV, around 1988-89
Love Hina was the first for me as well I think. After that it was Chobits or Dokuro-chan, I think, though the break inbetween Love Hina and the rest consisted of plenty of years. Took a while before I got really into it.
/a/ is younger than I thought. Who limewire here?
Ignoring shows like CCS/DBZ/Pokemon I watched when I was a child and Naruto and Bleach when I was around 14 I think it was Now and Then, Here and There
>searched up and watched?
My first 50 titles was like "borrow VHS from friends and their friends" so I wasn't able to choose what to watch. I think the first one was Vampire Hunter D or DBZ with german dub.
So as someone who really didn't like Naru I have to ask: what did you like about her?
Never used limewire because it was packed of shit.
Napster -> DC++ -> bitorrent
I also hated her
>Download an AMV instead of some anime episode
>Or it'll be CP
I wanted Narua to abuse me.
Don't forget the spam.
"I did not do that woman! But I did save blah blah blah..."
Dual Parallel Trouble Adventure
I did take my own initiative to watch naruto. Me and my friends watched it on youtube, but if it still doesn't count then death note and then elfen lied or bamboo blade.
My first was chobits, i fucking loved it.
I beat the game so I bought the movie when it came out in stores.
>watching the anime instead of reading the manga
Wow, you fucked up, the manga was way better. I remember borrowing volumes of Love Hina from my friend when I was twelve and reading them over the weekend. It's funny how I could get so excited about a shitty harem manga back then.
First show I followed fansubs of was FMA '03.
But I had seen a decent amount of series before that thanks to Toonami and Anime Unleashed.
Blue Submarine No. 6 if pestering parents to get it from Blockbuster counts as "my own initiative."
Both were pretty awesome.
Motoko should have fucking won
Surprisingly, that was not the first anime I watched but it was actually the manga I watched because I saw it at a book store and I remembered it because I played a game called "Love Hina Dating Sim" online when I was like 11.
I started getting into manga and anime heavily after that.
Mai Hime. On demand before I used internet.
Streaming? Motto To Love Ru
In MPC:HC? Nichijou
Fourth or fifth-generation copies of VHS tapes.
Sailor Moon sucked me into anime in 1998 on Cartoon Network, and then I think it was either Utena or Fushigi Yuugi that I bought a VHS tape of after finding recommendations on Usenet.
mainly because i wanted to see the origin of Shoop da Whoop
Fukn Golden boy.
First series I followed along with /a/ was Shuffle! or Mai-Hime,
But following Haruhi and Higurashi is when I became obsessed.
Anime that made me a casual: NHK.
Anime that made me an otaku: Madoka and EoE.
Fooly Cooly, on /a/'s recommendation.
I didn't get it.
First thing I remember watching was DBZ, I didn't give anime a fair chance since I tried the subs and couldn't enjoy it at all because of Goku's voice.
The first thing I really tried was Mirai Nikki because of a Yuno thread and I would credit osu and animu osts for getting me into it.
ladies vs butlers
Bleach. I was stuck in the "anime r gay" mindset for most of my teenage years.
here's a pic i never use. it's relevant though, just for the record
Spirited Away, if movies count. I only started watching series hardcore last summer and the first was Angel Beats. Feels...feels evrywhere. But since the last summer up till now i finished around 50 series + all the myiazaki movies, and other movies like Akira, Redline etc. I cant name an anime that i didn't like so far...maybe School Days. Funny thing is i wasn't trolled into watching it, the friend that recommended it actually likes it. I told him it kinda sucks and he was surprised.
Yep, I'm old.
First saw this on a small B&W TV in late 70s.
