does this get funnier? I'm only on episode 2 but I don't get the humor in any of the "jokes" so far
>I'm only on episode 2 but I don't get the humor in any of the "jokes" so far
OP I'm so sorry.
You've been reeled in by the most elaborate bait in the history of /a/, next to Boku no Pico. Drop it while you still can.
All of /a/ will tell you its shit. Go with the 3 episode rule anon. I liked it
a friend of mine actually recommended it to me a while back saying it was hilarious and i only got up to watching it now, i'll probably give it a few more episodes before deciding if i should drop
It's pretty much the worst "comedy" I've ever watched.
Why did Kyoani waste such good visuals and animation on something so fucking bland?
>I don't get the humor
My condolences for your shit taste
>cake in arm
>y do i have caek in my arm?? >.<
Nichijou's humor doesn't derive from the actual jokes, dummy.
Yes and no. It has its ups and downs. The humor is pretty hit or miss, and a lot of times they tend to focus on one joke for too long. But, the show is really well made and a lot of fun to watch despite these issues. Give it an episode or two more, and if you don't like it then go ahead and stop watching.
>Nichijou's jokes aren't funny
Glad we can agree on something
Depends if you like overreactions and silly faces.
Comedy is subjective just like opinions are. Not everyone finds the same things funny.
Nichijou starts really slow, just keep going. Also, it's less about the jokes than it is about the music, the visuals, the animation and whatever.
You're all faggots. Nichijou is the best.
Pic related it's an example of something more amusing
>/a/ suddenly hates Nichijou
>help! I'm only 20 seconds in the first episode
>will there be funny dialogue after I get through this intro?
Did you want to post the image that badly? Did you think people would praise your post because you were banking on the image being funny and thus people assuming you were funny? Did you think some had actually not seen the image yet?
Please take your time in replying, I am curious.
Now THAT'S a good joke.
>Did you want to post the image that badly?
No, it was just something I thought of when I was thinking of how to reply.
>Did you think people would praise your post because you were banking on the image being funny and thus people assuming you were funny?
No, since the point is that the image isn't actually that funny.
>Did you think some had actually not seen the image yet?
Obviously not, given the filename.
Why do you ask?
As with most SoL comedies, it only gets better as you grow accustomed to the characters. As with most SoL comedies, there's a lot to enjoy besides the comedy. As with most threads, OP is a faggot.
Whoa that's a pretty cool meme you got there, nichi/b/ro.
Is Yukko the best Nichijou?
It holds more meaning than the entirety of your post.
No shit. If you like SoL to any degree, it's a funny show. If you're a tasteless faggot whose favorite shows are Kill la Kill followed by the Big Bang Theory, of course you're not going to like it. Who knows? -Someone might add a laugh track so you know when to join in.
This is what Nichishiteaters actually believe. That everyone who doesn't like this one show hates all SoL, despite the fact that it's not even one itself.
Note: Anime with school setting is not equivalent to slice of life anime.
What's your favorite Nichijou scene, guys?
Mine is probably when Hakase and Sakamoto get trapped by the dogs or when Mio gives the notebook with the doujin drawn in it to Yukko.
How is that a meme? Do you even know what you're saying?
>/a/ thinks my favorite cartoon is shit
>they must watch The Big Bang Theory!
You are this retarded.
>As with most threads, OP is a faggot.
How is this not a totally epic meme?
Not my favorite by a long shot, just making a facetious comparison as per the traditions of 4chan. Well done spotting that.
Note: did you notice how little of S1 actually involved the school setting; or when it did, anything that fits into what would be considered normal for a school setting.
>Note: did you notice how little of S1 actually involved the school setting; or when it did, anything that fits into what would be considered normal for a school setting.
I did. Why do you ask? Trying to pick a fight?
Good try, but this thread was doomed to attract shitposters from the start because of the OP, which has a 50/50 chance of being a troll himself, or just a clueless faggot.
Speaking of trolls, any scene with Mai in it is my favorite scene.
The comedy is hit or miss and because it's a Kyoani show it gets shitposted all the time.
>being a troll himself, or just a clueless faggot.
I don't get it. What if he just doesn't like it?
I don't like it either. How is /a/ so easily entertained?
This show is best watched while high, I'm serious. Some anime series lend itself well to smoking weed, while others don't. This is definitely the former. Another comedy series that is amazing while high is Arakawa Under the Bridge.
>What if he just doesn't like it?
Then he is a clueless faggot.
>I don't get the humor
Because KyoAni didn't think of westerners when making the jokes, you dolt. They're mostly Japanese jokes. I thought they were pretty nice. Manzai-style.
>Because KyoAni didn't think of westerners when making the jokes, you dolt.
They sure as hell didn't think of paying japs when they made them.
And who the hell are you supposed to be anyway?
>They sure as hell didn't think of paying japs when they made them.
Of course they didn't. Can't you tell they did it for fun?
And who I am isn't anything you should care about. This is 4chan.
Nichijou sure likes to overplay some of the jokes, it's pretty jarring.
it's my favorite anime
if you don't like it then you don't like it. i pity you.
Usually because they're playing around with animation or just being slice of life.
I like of the KLK, BBT, and Nichijou. I don't understand the connection?
stop liking things bitch faggot
>Watching Nichijou to laugh
>Not watching Nichijou to smile and feel warm inside
Y'all fucking stupid.
yes but at the same time I can already tell you have shit taste
I tried /a/, I really did. And I enjoy SoL most of the time, but couldn't make it past episode 4.
I actually fell asleep watching it a couple times
I think I'd have more fun rewatching Lucky Star.
I really didn't find it funny at all until episode 12 or 13 (the one with the missing wallet) and then for some reason it just 'clicked' for me and I started loving it.
Why the fuck is this show so divisive when it comes to comedy? You don't see this happen for Nichibros, Pani Poni Dash, Seto no Hanayome or SZS.
Who the HELL are you guys supposed to be?
Because it's only funny to dumb people, whereas the others can be funny for dumb and smart people.
One of us is going to win the superb owl this year (me)
the other is going to win the superb owl next year
I think people tackling Nichijou as if it were primarily a comedy just have their expectations shattered. They keep waiting for the show to make them laugh consistently and it doesn't. It's not even trying to, but they think it is.
This guy gets it.
I never even knew that Nichijou was a comedy, and I enjoyed it just fine.
He probably shouldn't be watching anime in the first place then
if it's not funny for you, then it's not for you, it's not actually gut-busting funny, i've only chuckled at some scene. but i still find it fun to watch.
>Seto no Hanayome or SZS
Neither of these were funny at all
Yeah I watch comedies for the animation instead of just watching funny comedies
>Watching a japanese animation for comedy.
You do realize, epic meme XD aside, that the Japanese are at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to that category right?
There are only a few shows that ARE actually funny that are meant to be. Honestly I'd drop it if I were you, you're only about to receive more tasteless and outdated "humor" i nthe later episodes and it clearly isn't for you.
>the Japanese are at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to that category right?
Watch a Mexican sketch comedy show some time
Who are you quoting?
There are other shows that do that just fine without stale reactions every other shot, failing their obvious purpose to the audience. It felt like watching a damn sitcom without a laugh track.
You watched Gaki no Tsukai yet? It's not anime, but you probably generalised all Japanese media like that.
Some parts of SZS were funny, but as a whole it wasn't.
SnH was just bad, I laughed like twice before dropping it halfway through
This is why I'm always saying Nichijou is SoL first, comedy second. The comedy elements are clearly present and important, but they serve as an emotional catalyst for the overarching SoL themes. For some reason a lot of people seem to think it's comedy and nothing more, and when I try to explain that it's a SoL AND comedy they act like that's impossible. I've heard people tell meit can't be SoL because people don't shoot giant lasers out of their mouths when they stab themselves with a pen, or because school principals don't wrestle with reindeer in real life. Too many people have a this or that, black and white mentality about things and can't appreciate a lot of things that fall somewhere in between the extremes because of it.
Their actual shows are pretty funny, like the one were the guys wear binoculars whilst playing football. They can be pretty funny, but whenever it comes to animation all that most "comedy" shows will ever use are reaction shots which is almost all Nichijou has to offer. The funniest shows I've ever seen are ones that aren't comedies because the jokes actually reference something, or have a build up. Not fucking...
>*jumps into air*
>rinse wash repeat
>Did you do something to me?
>I gave you a new reaction function
>"Oh look, she's jumping in the air and falling down again."
>Some parts of SZS were funny, but as a whole it wasn't.
>SnH was just bad, I laughed like twice before dropping it halfway through
Your taste is in serious question, but I'll leave it at that since comedy is always subjective.
What comedic anime did you watch?
It doesn't matter if the SoL is first, because you have that garbage comedy with it every step of the way. It makes it really hard to enjoy the show when you have to listen to yelling, shouting, and unfunny faggotry for 24 episodes.
>It felt like watching a damn sitcom without a laugh track.
I have no idea how this would be even possible. It felt like watching a cute, relaxing, absurdist SoL with doses of comedy and amphetamine, and the odd sequence experimenting with animation.
This. A thousand times this.
I think he's talking about the time Nano had a jumping reaction to the Professors jokes. Mario comes to mind.
>This. A thousand times this.
Holy shit fucking kill yourself already.
Did you like Level E? What about School Rumble?
I loved Level E and Nichibros, droped school rumble 2 eps in.
>It felt like watching a cute, relaxing, absurdist SoL
Nichishit isn't absurdist. Do you even know what that word means?
>This. A thousand times this.
Just fuck off back to reddit already.
Do you often visit reddit so you're in the know about what you can and can't post on 4chan?
It's not a good show.
Those idiots saying "hurr durr Japanese humor"
Gintama, School Rumble, Mermaid no Boku.
Much funnier than this asinine crap.
Even though I disagree, I respect your right to have an opinion. I love Nichijou. You don't. I think it's hilarious. You don't. That's all.
Then it's really just a matter of you being intolerant of certain elements present in the show in detriment of all others. Obviously this anime and any others incorporating said elements are not for you.
>It felt like watching a cute, relaxing, absurdist SoL
Which would've been fine without it's doses of "comedy." The jokes that were just plain unfunny, the traditional jokes were well Japanese jokes, and the stale/redone/parody jokes WITH A NEW RANDOM TWEEST makes it kinda hard to "relax." I cringed almost every time Yuuko came onto the screen.
I didn't even post an opinion. What the fuck? Do you really think absurdist = random?
Hey, anon. Everything's going to be ok. You can keep putting words in my mouth or try to insult me if you want. I'm just going to keep loving Nichijou though.
>of, relating to, or characterized by the absurd or by absurdism
Plenty of absurd in Nichijou, as opposed to realistic. You're probably thinking of absurdism.
Obviously it isn't. I wasn't saying it was. I told OP that the comedy was more than likely not going to be to his taste because it's the same throughout, then the Nichijou Defense Brigade came crawling out of their hovels.
>hoping for funny comedies on anime
i don't think anime is a good medium for comedy, added with the japanase lame humor.
Haven't watched Level E/I loved Nichibros/Not going to watch School Rumble because of rumoured PIE END
I also liked Azazel-san, gdgd Fairies and Detroit Metal City. Less funny but still enjoyable comedies include stuff like SYD and Teekyuu.
>Nichijou Defense Brigade
I think there's me and one other guy saying the show is better for the SoL qualities than the humor. And a bunch of other guys losing their shit over it.
I'm a little ashamed that it took me this long to realize I was being trolled. Good luck with your thread. Nichijou is SoL AND comedy; that's all I came to say.
I don't think you or Japan knows what that word means.
It's the reason it bombed.
Enjoy your turd though.
>And a bunch of other guys losing their shit over it.
I think that's me and one other guy saying the show is unwatchable for the comedic qualities than the SoL. And a bunch of other guys losing their shit over it.
I'm only like 10 episodes in, but I guess it's my kind of humour. I loved the bits like the camping trip, nano and the cockroach, stuck in the elevator, the wooden blocks sketch, Yuuko's terrible puns and games and drawing skills and bad luck. The first maybe 2-3 episodes were a bit duller but I've honestly really enjoyed everything so far. And Sakamoto is best cat.
I don't know how people get so worked up about it. This type of comedy is in almost every anime, what is really so different about it? I think it's good, sure, but the format and style is not new if you've watched any comedy or SOL. The comedy has a lot of energy and focus compared to most others, but it's still at it's core an SOL with depictions of normal everyday scenarios, but with some weirdness.
Are you sure you replied to the right person?
>absurdist, n. and adj.
> 1. A person who behaves in an illogical or absurd manner. rare.
> 2. A writer, performer, etc., whose work presents an audience or readership with absurdities, typically in portraying the futility of human struggle in a senseless and inexplicable world; esp. a writer or proponent of absurdist drama (see sense B.).
> Relating to the perceived futility and senselessness of human life; (also) of, relating to, or characteristic of the Theatre of the Absurd (Theatre of the Absurd at theatre n. 3c(b)).
Nichijou is none of these.
Nichijou is widely loved on /a/, which makes it a great target for troll threads. I'm going to assume you haven't read the thread yet or you would realize that this is one such thread.
>Yuuko's terrible puns
Almost a perfect score. So close anon, so close.
You are good man.
You should have been their joke writer.
I love her terrible puns though. Terrible puns = good puns. And he tried so hard.to make them laugh.
I lost it at her drawings though.
He's so cool!
Sorry, britbong, I was using Merriam-Webster. And as I've already demonstrated, it fits. Also
>A person who behaves in an illogical or absurd manner
>behaves in an absurd manner
It's not really a hard stretch to make. Stop being so fucking autistic.
We just had 3 days of great nichijou threads. Don't worry, there are always those people who don't only dislike something, but have an amazing need to inform everyone that their opinion is fact. These threads have to happen occasionally for their sanity.
As for OP, a lot of the humor comes from taking a string of events your average person is likely to have experienced, and to jam them together in a skit with a heavy dose of absurdity. It's often relatable and switches to being charming and endearing with the way characters are written to be so very human in the absurdity. Give it a good chance and don't "try" to like it. Just take it in.
He was using it as an adjective, and not even to describe a person.
True, but the point is that the meaning is so stupidly clear that who cares?
Do you know what happens when you let people with a poor grasp of the language roam free?
And that same argument could be used for other things such as thinking emoticons or *actions* are fine. Alternately, typng lyk ths.
But it's not wrong according to Merriam-Webster, which just makes this whole sperging even more absurd.
Merriam-Webster isn't a very good dictionary.
If you want to say that something is what you're trying to say, you just call it absurd.
The usage was also wrong according to Merriam-Webster.
>absurdist: of, relating to, or characterized by the absurd or by absurdism
If absurdism, then my point is trivial. If absurd, then note
>by the absurd
This implies that absurd is being used as a noun.
Let's see their definiton of absurd when used as a noun.
>absurd : the state or condition in which human beings exist in an irrational and meaningless universe and in which human life has no ultimate meaning —usually used with the
The word was used incorrectly. Deal with it.
diff guy here just dropping in my 2 cents
Level E was only just bearable while School Rumble was legendary.
>All these shitposters
Has there been an /a/ sings of the ED? I know the OP was done. Rewatching the series now, on episode 6. My favorite scenes are: the cursed shrine, deer wrestle, Yukko orders coffee, Mio bribing the police officer, the entertainers who fall through the sky, and the pumpkin that won't break. Also, Sakamoto is one of the best characters, I guess it's the voice acting or his personality, but his scenes are always top notch, the daruma for example.
The show has marvelous production values, animation and audio. I love the BGM, can fit the mood very well. The helvetica-standards and love like scenes stand out too.
>The show has a large budget and not much else
>y do i have caek in my arm?? >.<
Hahahaha dude you are absolutely right.I laughed this more than 14 episodes of Nichijou.
Btw I hate the little girl. That selfish little whore. If she was my girl I'd have fucking killed her.
It's shit. Teachers are only good characters.
>does this get funnier?
Nope it stays pretty much the same throughout. Whether you consider that good or not is up to you I guess.
