From what I understand, Vikings raided pillaged and raped. There's been pillaging and raiding, but where's the rape? Is this extremely important aspect of Viking culture completely ignored?
>>
i think viking is a pretty cool guy. eh rapes women and doesn't afraid of anything
>>
They also drank menstrual blood, want that in their also?
>>
they rape a woman in the manga but they don't really show it
>>
>holding out for Canute.
>>
There was that one English (?) girl but our protagonist had no fire in his loins.

Maybe he's holding out for Canute.
>>
there is rape you're just not paying attention
>>
everyone raped back in the day.

>>
Historically, vikings actually didn't rape indiscriminately. When they did so, it was one of the signs that the raid was about more than just stealing; it was about conquering the area or taking revenge on someone in the village. Rape of local women and other violent practices, such as the intentional killing of children, were reserved for people the vikings had a grudge with.
>>
>>10099057
Yeah, it was basically a way of saying "this isn't just about taking your stuff, this is about MAKING YOU ALL OUR BITCHES."
>>
>>10099032
Yes please as this is my fetish
>>
>>10099057
Raping somone wasn't just the short term satisfaction it was a long term tactic. When you rape and impregnat a woman you take out a member of their workforce, you add an extra mouth to feed, you soil their blooline with your own. It's one of the best tactics to use and one of the only ones that's fun to impliment.
>>
Why the hell is this under seinen if there's no explicit nudity? Claymore has more tits than this and it's shonen.

Fuck it I'm gonna go watch mnemosyne again

they are genres

>A literary genre is a genre of literature that is "a loose set of criteria for a category of literary composition." Genres can be determined by literary technique, tone, content, or even (as in the case of fiction) length

>a loose set of criteria for a category of literary composition

WHOA, YOU MEAN CALLING SOMETHING SEINEN OR SHOUJO IS A LOOSE WAY OF CATERGORIZING A LITERARY COMPOSITION?

can something be both a demographic and a genre? if not, then they're only demographics.

wikipedia and everyone has been saying so for years
>>
i just finished readin vol 2 and i just raged at his dad's death.

manga feels more shonen then seinen though. in b4 OVER NINE THOUUUUUUUUSAAAANNND
>>
>>10099333
Of course they're genres. They may be named after their demographics, but the series all share common traits, themes and storytelling techniques. THAT'S WHAT A GENRE IS.
>>

The most ironic part was their decline. They were defeated by christianity and their elite soldiers "Crusades"

I think it was before the Albigensian Crusade.

With Lusitania being formed etc
>>
>>10099443
Initially yes, but in current usage (language fucking evolves, especially when you're using foreign language words!) it is being used in the sense of a genre.
>>
Can "explosions" be both a demographic and a genre?

DEMOTIONS

>>
>>10099543
Series in general tend to stay pretty close to their definitions as shounen/whatever.

There are some that aren't but in general they do as much to define a series as saying it's "ecchi" or "mystery". There's is going to be stuff that isn't covered by seinen or whatever, that's why they have multiple genres! Whoa!
>>
>>10099486
Let's label it as the Fucking Awesome genre. target demographic is vikings.
>>
>>10099452
Lucky Star and Berserk are both seinen.
>>
It wasn't an important aspect.
Also, they usually took the women back home and made them their wives.
Creeeeepy.
>>
>>10099590
Lucky Star is not really seinen.

Also, seinen is the least definitive.

Josei/shoujo/shounen all tend to be the same exact shit with a few exceptions.
>>
>>10099596
So they could live a shitty life in Britain getting beaten and doing menial labor and popping out babies, or live a shitty life in Scandinavia getting beaten and doing menial labor and popping out babies.

Shit yeah, the vikings really made their lives a lot worse.

>>

huh, interesting.
>>
>Judging by the literature, the Vikings were the "rednecks" of medieval Europe... if you went into the mead hall and called a man a faggot, he'd do the same thing that any good ol' boy at a Texas cowboy bar would do. The end result would be a big axe in your head instead of a big cowboy boot in your face, but the idea is the same.
Vikings are awesome

To this date, this is why Icelanders claim they have beautiful women. "Yeah, we took all the hot ones and left your British folk with all the hags."
>>

Penetrating Quadrupeds would have become a meme on this forum if it had been done. I mean, they had to have laws against that along with homosexuality so it obviously happened.

>>10100489

>>
When real MEN fuck, women are only a hindrance.
>>
>>10100493
Not really. Some of the most manly masculine vikings were rumored to be gay - although in many cases this was just done to discredit them. You think that being called a faggot today is bad, hohoho.. you can only DREAM of what it implied back then.
>>
>>10099617
Azumanga Daioh is shonen. Japan agreed, don't bother them about it
>>
>>10099162
Vinland Saga is really only seinen on a technicality. It was originally in a shonen magazine, and it only got moved to another mag because the author couldn't keep a weekly schedule.

Personally, I don't see why everyone has a stick in their ass about the distinction. The only reason anyone cares about shonen vs. seinen is because they're insecure and want to legitimize liking a kids' comic. Of course, the implication of saying "nuh uh, it's seinen" is that liking a shonen manga is something you have to apologize for.

And before anyone says "but shonen = naruto and pokeymanz," remember, Fist of the North Star and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure are shonen.

Homosexual acts were OK so long as you were the pitcher, not the catcher. If you took it up the shitter, then you ranked somewhere around farm animals in the pecking order.
>>
>>10100619
LOL, NICE!
>>
>>10100777
True enough. Though it was still denting to one's pride to be accused of sticking it to another man in that sense. In some cases, it was used as an insult in claiming that a man was 'too retarded to tell a man's ass from a woman's cunt', roughly worded.
