I was thinking of some witty comment to insult this show but can't come up with anything, so... WHAT. THE. FUCK.
The ending was fine holy shit, Togame got what she deserved and more in that she was able to love Shichika, and Shichika gained a personality through the whole thing. Just because they didn't live happily ever after doesn't mean it was all pointless, despite the narration describing the emptiness of ambition. This is why Shichika goes map making after Togame dies: obviously this a pointless ambition, but he's doing it purely for himself, because he wants to honor his relationship with Togame.
Basically the last episode is about cherishing your moment-to-moment and the people in it, rather than the ambitions you define your existence with.
I just don't like this kind of dry endings. Call me a faggot if you want.
And what were the even trying to do again? I don't think I understood the overall plot.
I don't think i could insult that show. Best anime 2010.

Just finished dling this.
What should I expect?
best girl won
Togame ultimate goal was getting revenge on everyone that had anything to do with her father's murder. Some faggots will chime in saying no she wouldn't have killed Shichika, she was just saying that to make him feel better. It's not true though, she was going to kill him after the Shogun and stuff was resolved. She would have hated herself even more for doing it, but she would have done it.
Collecting the swords was just a way to get an audience with the Shogun.
Isin writing and sword fights.
Man that show was good. I'm in the mood to rewatch now.
I haven't watched this in forever and having completely forgotten Togame's dying words. Is it more obvious in the novels that she meant what she said about killing him?
The anime made Togame seem a lot cuter and less cold, actually.
