so after seeing all the hype for haruhi i decided to check out the series.
i watched the whole thing in 1 sitting in dvd order and i was not impressed. should i be getting moar out of watching it or is it ironic that i was bored watching a show about a girl thats bored.
Tsuruya's the only redeeming quality.
found your problem
it was kind of cool and an interesting concept but yeah it wasn't that great
my friends also insisted watching the english dubs in dvd order and ended up not liking it. retards.
Fuck yeah Yamibou.
definately right on this one
I disagree, I thought it was absolutely brilliant.
hype killed it for you
i feel sorry for you
it's quite the enjoyable little series
also watching in the DVD order will make it so that all of the action will be concentrated in the first few eps and leave you coasting through the rest
how many bloody "orders" are there for this little series?
how much more do you need to fail?
Haruhi is one of the shows that's good, but overhyped. When I first watched it, the only thing I knew about it was from what I had seen in a quick clip from an AMV on youtube. I think I enjoyed it more because I didn't have any specific expectations for it.
there are two.
and much like narnia, reading them in the order they were written is much more satisfying than the in-series chronological order. even though the only good one is the magicians nephew ;D
Seriously, who's bright idea was it to actually release this thing in "DVD" order.
fucking shit was broadcast the way it was to keep the entire thing interesting. DVD order is like eating all the frosting from the cake in ten minutes and then having a lump of plain white bread left over to swallow for the rest of the day.
Ah, but narnia has like three different in series chronological orders.
really its only like two books that go after each other, the others can be placed in a general location. Like Horse and His Boy, nobody can agree where the fuck to put that book.
I really dont see how the order you watch the shows in could make any difference. I watched it in broadcast order and still thought it was unbelievably average. Looking back on it, I would think watching them in correct order would make more since.
I dont think thats necesarrily true. as for the horse and his boy, there is a pretty limited range you can put it in, as is the same with the rest of the series' books.
It doesn't make too much of a difference
what really killed it for the OP was the hype
but like how someone has mentioned already watching the
>DVD order is like eating all the frosting from the cake in ten minutes and then having a lump of plain white bread left over to swallow for the rest of the day.
Blame the Japanese.
Haruhi was the first anime I had watched since Full Metal Panic. Before that I don't even know. It's basically responsible for my current obsession with the stuff, and I wasn't an /a/sshole at the time, so I missed all the dead horse flogging that no doubt accompanied its release. I loved it, and I've watched it a bunch of times now.
I think the last point is probably the most relevant one in my enjoying it. I've learned since then that being on /a/ can really ruin a good show. Look at Gurren Lagann - I'd probably still think it was awesome if not for /a/, but it's been pounded into my head so incessantly that I can't stand it now.
just about the only thing going for it was the fact that most of it didnt make any fucking sense.
like episode 0 or that one episode with Yuki vomiting out tech words or that one episode where they're stuck in the island and then WHAT NO MORE ISLAND FOR TWO MORE EPISODES?
and it's not really UNBELIVEABLY AVERAGE
Kyon's narration alone would put this above most shows
add the fluid animation by KyoAni and their ability to faithfully adapt the light novel to TV and you get quite the series
I read the translated light novels in conjunction with watching the anime so I guess that must've made it a bit more enjoyable for me
I thought it was good. I normally hate anything that has to do with moe or whatever, but this did at least some things original. The shuffling of episodes might have been a gimmick, but it worked for me.
Also, I am gay for Itsuki.
It's fun but not '2nd season will be the next coming of Jesus' that a lot of Anime fans make it out to be.
>I read the translated light novels in conjunction with watching the anime so I guess that must've made it a bit more enjoyable for me
The only way to go.
Maybe the second season will be better. At least the light novels got a lot better after the bamboo leaf rhapsody
I'm not holding out for the second season. Second seasons have a habit of sucking.
I really enjoyed Haruhi, but i started watching it while it was airing because i heard about this scene.
So pretty much my only expectations from this series was the hear canada get mentioned. So in the end it was fucking awesome. especially asakura.
but yeah i've watched both DVD order and broadcast order. and they both work, but broadcast order works better personally.
I think the broadcast order gave the series the sense of chaos and unpredictability that made it truely great.
What's a Canada?
who knows, it sounds fake.
I think if I had watched it in broadcast order, I wouldn't have been able to finish it. I'm not entirely sure why, though.
I don't know, I watched it In DVD order, and afterward I even watched the dub. i still love it.
I broke down and watched it after I kept seeing that cap of Haruhi's leg from the island episode reposted over and over. Honestly, I thought it was great, but my expectations were low and I watched the broadcast order. I probably would've been disappointed too if I watched the DVD order first.
Different strokes *shrug*
I liked it.
1. never listen to "friends" who insist on dubs, they are the serpent to your Eve.
2. your friends have obviously never understood the importance of original works
3. get new friends, your old ones are all fags.
how are the two orders different
>>10097901 they are the serpent to your Eve.
Wait, they're sleeping with my girlfriend? Someone's got hell to pay!
meaning he's eve (a hoe) and the serpent (his douche friends) is trying to trick him into fucking up something perfect
DVD goes in chronological order, TV goes like 1,2,3,7,4, Etc.
i liked haruhi, but then, i rarely visited /a/ before watching it, so i had no expectations whatsoever. the first ep was like huh wut? is dat sum parody animu? but further along i got quie into it. and felt the need to on /a/ more, somehow.
Here have some Disappearence of Haruhi Suzumiya:
Yuki steals Haruhi's powers.
Yuki recreates the universe.
Haruhi is no longer god, Yuki is no longer an alien, Koizumi no longer an esper etc etc.
No one remembers anything, or sees anything wrong with the situation other than Kyon.
While exploring school, Kyon gets a message from the original Yuki telling him he can change it back if he brings all the SOS Brigade members to this room.
Problem is, no one remembers him, and Haruhi and Koizumi are at another school.
Kyon uses his trump card as "Mr. Who" time traveller to convince Haruhi to come to the school.
Either way, time paradox, the same shit keeps repeating itself, so Kyon goes back in time, gets laid, gets KILLED, but is saved by his time paradox self.
