What do you think of how anime is represented in western cultures? A few examples.
9 of 10 times I see an anime reference in western media they talk like Speed Racer and say something about honor.
I couldn't care less, and this is /co/ material.
I get pretty embarrassed when I see anime parodied in western cartoons, or listening to Rebecca Sugar talk about anime.
is this canceled yet?
Krieger-san is lucky
Show me a funny anime reference that isn't just Sailor Moon, mecha, tentacle porn, Pokemon, Dragonball Z, or Speed Racer
MAD could never do comedy right, and their kid-friendly version is no exception to the rule.
Really wish Krieger got a episode dedicated to him.
Is Krieger supposed to be that handsome?
>that fat harley quinn
No, it would ruin him.
I liked this show when I was younger
hitler had good hair days too, he was only human.
what is good times with weapons?
Blue-haired guy was amusing in a randumb kind of way, but Mikey was a faggot.
I still want to cum on blue-haired grill.
I remember when /a/ temporarily shit itself over Tsukasa showing up in Ugly Americans.
The Trapper Keeper episode of South Park.
I saw Family Guy with a younger cousin once and it had the guy transform into a fat Sailor Moon. I chuckled.
I wish this was a real anime http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EvLQOvIqhc
>That first video
Why am I laughing so hard at this shit?
I really am a retarded.
Cringe worthy shit. Let's not discuss it., especially because it isn't really that anime related.
The only ones who has gotten anime parodies right so far is South Park
Those guys are huge weebs apparently.
every single time i you see anything anime related in western cartoons its about tentacles every single fucking time
That's because Trey is a huge weeb
It's usually some predictable joke about hentai or Dragon Ball. The joke about Krieger and his virtual girlfriend is kind of funny though.
>not circling the obvious gendo
Yeah, it's almost always a Speed Racer spoof and not much else. On rare occasion they'll incorporate some anime cliches that haven't been in use since the 90s.
Protect my balls is still better.
>not being so lazy you simply google an image to post on /a/ instead of painting up silly details
Mahou shoujo Kenny-chan in the game of thrones parody is pretty awesome
South Park's anime references can't be beat.
>no facial hair
Krieger is one of us. He's actually years ahead of his time considering Archer takes place in the 70's.
>not knowing about shaved Gendo
He must be workig with SERN.
That's some old school ecchi reference
>hurr I forgot about young gendo before his beard
>Fisherman's wife reference
Why did I drop this show at episode 3?
Who watched exchange student?
Because you have shit taste
Time sure flies.
When did it air? I don't have cable anymore.
Gennedy Tartakovsky is an example of how to do anime references properly
You can see her jealous scowl at the waifu in the foreground. You can feel that she's definitely going to post something about thin privilege on tumblr after this.
I know, and I'm sorry.
Akira references in a kid's show is pretty bold
in the sense that he's addicted to coke and can't play YY-Zedd?
That episode was disturbing.
Quality's pretty shitty, but you get the point.
Looks pretty interesting for once
I wanna say this is an Escaflowne reference... but someone else probably can narrow it down better than me
Like kids would know where its from.
Was that a PreCure girl?
its more of a mix I can see saint seyia, sailor moon, and possibly Slayers
So a reverse Guy Jean type of thing? Okay, but why copy Yu-gi-oh's design?
That was exactly what I thought
And MC look like he's Jaden and Jessy's gay love child from Yugioh GX
Yes, the movie was surprisingly not bad, the blonde guy has the yellow girl as his waifu, with the posters and anime and shit.
Heh, better than most of CN.
Yu-Gi-Oh! was a very popular kids' anime in Australia.
Totally forgot about that show
All the South Park episodes that have references to anime are shit, not because of the references but because they're boring.
>Archer takes place in the 70's.
I take it, this is very much NOT okay. Why bother parodying something you know absolutely nothing about? Australia, please leave.
I hated that show.
Pay attention to all the equipment, it's all 70's era computers.
The anime guys come from trding cards so your opinion doesn't really count.
That's Rider Kick you plebian
>"Danger Zone" is a song, with music composed by Giorgio Moroder and lyrics written by Tom Whitlock, which American singer-songwriter Kenny Loggins recorded and released in 1986
>Good Times With Weapons
dont they have cellphones
>good times with weapons and chinpokomon
It really wasn't a good show. But I suppose it led to Panty & Stocking.
I'll give you Trapper Keeper, but Good times with weapons was crap and chinpokomon outstayed its welcome.
I actually enjoy watching this
>Pantsu Heavy Trainer
And they're supposed to be bringing this show back.
Jesus Christ those fucking gradients on the robot in the first clip. This is some fucking Devry University D- graduation thesis flash animation. I've seen newgrounds shit that was better in 2009. How is this airing?
They keep talking about it, but it's never going to happen. Reboot is dead, anon.
They purposefully insert out of place time stuff for comedy/to parody shows that do the same thing unknowingly
Good Times With Weapons was fucking hilarious.
The panty shot in the first one fucking sent my sides into LaLa Land,.
It really wasn't.
>having someone cosplay as her
>not making a pillow or something
It really was. I don't understand how you can dislike that episode without disliking South Park's humor in general.
NEBA GONNA SAY
No shit, The usa is to xenophobic to make something like that
It lost its charm a long time ago.
Only a handful of new episodes were even good.
THREE CLONES NIGGAS, THREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I know most of /a/ doesn't watch Archer but they should. Best on /a/ material show out there.
What is wrong with you?
If Reboot gets a reboot, who's going to voice Megabyte?
South Park's humour wildly varies from simple potty humour to jokes based on references, I prefer the potty humor to just references.
I've been taking Archer as an alternate universe due to all the fast and loose anachronisms for humor and spy superscience.
Underaged fag, what else?
BEST fucking reference.
Never stopped wishing there'd been an actual fight.
Kimiko a shit.
why is she so perfect
>tfw sara won't be your wife
>tfw jasmine won't be your daughter
I agree, and Good Times With Weapons is a perfect example of that charm. No stupid sociopolitical commentary, just eight year olds being incredibly vulgar and violent.
> jasmine won't be your daughter
That's a good thing as I'm not a fan of father daughter incest.
Is this good
Aaron MacGruder's art is fantastic for that right mix of /a/ art in a /co/ territory work.
Tom DuBois's wife and a lot of the women are fantastic.
Isn't all the music on PSG remixes of other shit?
You realize Tom's an absolute Beta right?
His wife rules with an iron fist.
I knew this was going to be bad but
>All of this
You know we actually have anime on free to air tv down here right?
Its not shit like DBZ its normally stuff like madoka, Black Butler, NGA, ect.
It's entry level shit but, we still air the most anime outside of Korea and japan.
>no little half and half
Kempachirama-sama, you forgot to do your math homework.
Shit, that's fucking hilarious. Got any more like that?
Except the whole thing is covered so heavily in Japanese references, it loses the charm that makes it South Park.
Like what happened to Craig flipping everyone off, they stopped doing it before it had the potential to get funny.
>assuming everyone is like that
maybe I just want to see her happy and protect her smile
implying being dominate by sara wouldn't be amazing
>>tfw jasmine won't be your daughter
I'm pretty good with that.
>jesus christ her hair
yes, the best. Wish there was more.
>I prefer the potty humor
Which is what most of the episode's humor is based around.
Have some more
One of the Bongo Simpsons comics did a whole story with Simpsons characters acting out Death Note
No, the episode where you have people who have asses for heads was potty humor, pretending to be warriors is not potty humor.
Sara was terrible. She's always going behind Tom's back with other black guys.
Jasmine is daughteru though.
>You realize Tom's an absolute Beta right?
>His wife rules with an iron fist.
I think that's a reaction to Tom being a beta. Household wasn't going to run itself with him taking most leadership.
That, or they married because Tom is a beta and she's dominant and they're a good match because of it.
How about this
So surprised Tom is not banging Sara all the goddamn time.
>she's a woman who's had a child but goddamn her babyface an figure
Only Stinkmeaner's possession knew what's good, nyukka.
wasnt there an episode of House about a guy with a realdoll waifu
I used to rage all the time that there'd never be official porn with that delicious art style.
Classics come first.
I'll try and storytime it now in true /co/ fashion
When ever he shows up he is fucking golden and then just disappears again.
LOl Joker got with fat Harley
All I remember about House + anything Japan was him referencing Arceus from Pokemon and reading a mock-up of some cooking manga in the cafeteria once.
>Except the whole thing is covered so heavily in Japanese references
No it isn't. The scenes vaguely reference FotNS and the song is a big ball joke, but that's it. The humor in the episode comes from things like Cartman messing with Kyle, Butters getting a ninja star thrown in his eye and then dressed up as a dog to be taken to the vet, Cartman getting naked in front of the whole town, etc.
I hate these guys but it counts
yup the guy is retarded
This is just like K-ON
This made me angry. I can't even remember why.
Have a feeling this will change when cartoons start getting made by the generations that actually saw anime past the 80's.
now i remember these too
>dat Ryuk reveal panel copypasta
This thread isn't too shitty so I'll stop saging since it isn't doing anything anyways.
/a/, if you made an actual anime of your own would you fear it being parodied and ruined by murica?
One other thing that is annoying is the fucking Cartman's Dad storyline, why did they have to go resurrect that shit several seasons late and shit all over it? The original ending was fine.
this is not a shoop
>killed 6 people for not getting manga
Sounds like /a/ alright.
It was on FX so a lot of people really don't watch that channel enough to try it. I know I didn't. I have cable but FX was never a channel to attract my attention. If not for Netflix having the first three seasons of Archer, I'd have never tried (and loved) it.
As well, oddly enough, what Archer trailers I did see actually weren't ever as funny as the show itself (the punchline delivery is so much better in the show).
Also the trailers don't also show that Archer gets his own just desserts and treatments; what originally turned me off before I watched it on Netflix was that I assumed that like Cartman on South Park, Archer would have been getting his way all the time despite being self-centered and incompetent (from what the trailers showed).
And I was blown away by how much shit he actually gets (and what everybody gets) and how hilarious the entire cast is once you stretch out their day to day life in an episode.
worse by far.
>Butters getting a shuriken stuck in his eye, dressed up as a dog and then peed on by dogs at the dog pound isn't potty humor
I don't think Anime is on TV that much anymore. I haven't watched TV in a while but I definitely don't see any when I do.
Maximum Uguu~ and shit jokes
At least some blue and teacher designs are good.
Teacher best g- Dammit.
I don't think that it should be surprising that most mainstream western culture bases their interpretation of anime on a small group of relatively popular series. Those were the shows that managed to penetrate foreign cultures the best.
That said, with the exception of Archer, I'm not overfond of western references to anime in Western shows.
Only good thing about any of these skits
>Cowboy Bebop copies Bruce Lee
>Naruto copies Cowboy Bebop
>Boondocks copies Naruto
I wanna get off the ride.
No. I don't have an inferiority complex towards Murica, so I don't care what they do. Parody is flattery.
See that's the thing, TV isn't nearly as powerful of a media outlet as it used to be.
Kids are growing up youtubing and pirating shit now.
So that's what became of Badger?
Who watched this episode and, was the hentai joke terrible?
I'm pretty sure somebody on Archer's staff has a respectable power level. Archer makes a crack about building mobile suits in one episode, for example.
>I'm not overfond of western references to anime in Western shows.
They normally give me some fierce Spanish Shame.
I could barely watch the Princess Kenny bits on the GoT South Park episodes. Doesn't help that I understand Japanese, so the accents with the vocabulary was damn near painful.
With something like South Park possibly.
Something like that mockery of Mad TV or Family Guy fuck NO.
So that's how the hell Marge's hair works.
>kill flanders fanfiction
Homer confirmed as tsuntsun for Flanders
Is that Ronald McDonald
Surprised nobody mentioned this yet.
Billy and Mandy had quite a bit of references though all I could find was this, in spanish or some language.
there's a dragonball z one too but you see those all the time
I watched it but I don't remember a hentai joke. I was more annoyed by Hank Azaria's bad Japanese accent which is odd because it didn't really bug me before.
See that's the thing, it's not going to be nearly as much about what's on TV anymore as it used to be. The internet is supreme now.
Kids are growing up with Youtube and the ability to pirate shit. I didn't even know that anime was FROM Japan until god knows how many years I'd mindlessly watched it; these kids will know before they start.
This had a premise with so much potential but god, what a shitty show all-around.
Will America ever make a new "comedy" that isn't this cringe-worthy? It never used to be like this, is it because they're relying too heavily on pop culture now?
Whoever they are, they're brilliant. I don't know how they manage to make the cast so funny and genuinely not forced.
Even Cheryl/Carol/whatever her name is's change to lolsorandomandviolent somewhere in S2 isn't annoying even though by rights it should be.
Oh thats the wrong one. Here it's this one http://youtu.be/IVUrJg2Klns
Princess Kenny was not nearly as bad as other nods/jabs at japan/anime in general.
Super J-Pop America Fun Time Now, now that was cringeworthy shit.
Reminds me of Excel Saga or Slayers.
I like that Dexter's Lab actually went in-depth with their Speed Racer parody
They don't just do the awkward dub, they got the story beats down pat
There's Archer. Seriously.
Eh, mobile suits are pretty low level. Gundum is venerable series with a wide penetration.
Because they got it completely wrong. It was all about him being in love with the pillow itself, and not his waifu.
Bob's Burgers is really good too. I find it manages to recapture that twisted weird family but heartwarming feels that early Simpsons had.
The references are still always about DBZ, Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Speed Racer or some other old thing like that. Or tentacles.
I just don't really show anything towards them anymore.
Archer's relies too much on being vulgar. It's robot chicken.
Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Gundam isn't an amazingly well-known franchise, but I think it adds to the evidence that somebody on the staff is an anime fan.
Not gonna lie. Archer is slowly becoming more accepted around here.
I am aware most /a/nons were always aware of Archers existence and just passed it off as another shitty western cartoon. I've talked to 4 different /a/nons who began to marathon it since the new season came out. All of them wound up liking it.
The character Kreiger is basically made to "appeal to us". As obvious as it is, Kreiger still has a certain charm to him. They don't shove his weeaboo side in your face every time he is on screen. You might see his waifu maybe once a season.
I never caught this one
Still haven't tried watching that because my dad watches it and he loves Family Guy and such shit. Is it worth it
That's because those are easy references, and references to "how racky" Japan is are easy laughs.
Oh, and drinking sake out of wine glasses. What was up with that
Sorry. I should have specified that I meant non animated.
If they made more new series instead of relying on 16 seasons of the same characters American cartoons would be perfect.
I'm just waiting for it to become well-accepted before making crossover Fate threads. I have been biding my time for months.
Homer: Just according to keikaku
THIS IS MY LIFE SO DON'T GET IN MY WAY
I'M HERE TO STAAAAY
Robot Chicken was shit.
How does it even compare with Archer?
Krieger is moe, in a "I know of a 101 uses for homeless people in science" way.
I don't think they'd dig that deep for a reference.
But like >>100942767 said.
Kenny hime-sama so kawaii desu
I'm actually sort of disappointed greatly by Krieger. He's mean to his waifu, and the series never explains why (I had to get that from the Archer wiki).
As well, he's never given enough chances to shine until when he brought back Katya and he got more appearances.
relying on toilet humor and just being vulgar. I just said that
Have you even watched Archer
>make anime style
>still looks western
I'd genuinely be OK with Sailor Moon gags that didn't amount to "hur dur, schoolgirl transformation sequence, amirite" and actually took advantage of all the crazy shit in the series and all the changes that were made to it.
I love Krieger. He appeals to me as an otaku, as an intellectual, and as a fascist.
Actually Robot Chicken nailed an Inuyasha parody.
Yea this was a thing, though the guy in question modeled her after a girl he used to know. I forget if she died or rejected him or if he was just too beta or what.
His neighbor also totally wanted his dick and was relatively good looking but he completely brushed her off for the realdoll, even in the end. Favorite part about that episode, too. Most other shows would have had him "come around" and abandon the doll.
I wanted to ask him if he watched it myself, but for the life of me, I couldn't remember why I find Archer funny.
Yeah, there's a whole lot of cursing, but aside from the sex and Pam's body, I can't remember for the life of me what are the majority of the jokes.
Shit, I would love to see /a/ get into best girl wars with Archer women.
the only answer is Sheryl
The problem with American shows is that they are either really good and immediately canceled, or are terrible and go on forever. Or are initially good and then become terrible and go on forever.
have you even watched robot chicken?
It was the Japanese girl's father saying Comic Book Guy's store being filled with non-pornographic manga
a lot of the jokes go over most people's heads. they references to stuff that most people might not get, like Captain Beefheart or Richard Petty
the writers of the show are actually pretty well read
Check out current family guy
"I meant my life's work"
That whole video
>picking Sheryl over Pam
But she's the realistic version of Revy.
Racist jokes. Jokes about mental illness and drug abuse. Lots of historical references and bizarre encyclopedic trivia references. Jokes about the gays. Then are are a ton of jokes centered around the incompetency and corruption within ISIS/the government at large.
Don't you mean Carol?
I think Archer is funny in the same way futurama is funny. It just has a small cast of characters that get into different situations. Instead of stuff with clusterfucks of characters like family guy, simpsons, ect.
Alot of Archer's jokes are reoccuring jokes.
Some examples off the top of my head
Kreiger super science stuff, "Whats in there, buckles?", "This is how you get ANTS", Archer's mom being a slut, Archer and Lana going back and forth, Pam is ugly, Seyrl being an ultimate betamale
I mean, stuff like that doesn't ever get old because they keep finding new situations to use it in.
Wow. What a twist.
Louie is pretty great
Holy shit I can't breathe
well, you just have shit taste.
it's okay, I can forgive you
>I'm pretending it's demon food, since I'm half demon
but this is a comparison. not a taste test.
They haven't used the "that's how you get ants" thing in a while, though. They knew when to slow down on its use as a catchphrase, and those other things are character issues. Which do see some development.
>And dad wins.
No, he's dumb. Archer takes place in Anachronism World.
Was it all a ruse?
Mom playing along
that its a good wife for you.
I don't think a parody is a portayal, parodies are over the top with the intention of being funny. They are not close to reality and genuine portrayals are cringe-worth such as the Wolverine movie.
another good example:
Mike Mignola and Kazuki Takahashi did an art trade.
Louie is an unfunny piece of shit comedian who only gets approval by the Jewish media because he is anti-White.
>Group Polarization and the Fad of Ethno-masochism
I gotta say, I really like Takahashi's Hellboy.
that's a neat video, did u make it
The only people that should make anime parodies are Japan themselves.
Believe in Ted who Believes in you
let's not forget this Gem
Isn't that an actual girl from a recent anime?
>What the fuck is this? I didn't order an anime whore
Now that's something I would never put together in my mind
No. its from the clay neko stone something.
Okay, I laughed. That was good.
