>tfw there will never be an anime movie as good as this.
>tfw you'll never see anything animated like this ever again.
Want to deny it; can't
The way it looks is amazing. You can tell it was drawn very carefully.
Not even Oshii's best.
I still like sword of the stranger more
Oh yeah, genius?
Give me names.
Bout to watch it now.
what is it?
Watch everything Oshii and decide you fag.
Most anons top are Beautiful Dreamer and Patlabor 2
A fucking masterpiece, not only of anime but of cinema in general.
Just searched for it
Holy fuck that's some well animated movie.
>Holy fuck that's some well animated movie.
The animation isn't even the best part.
Go watch it, it's not even that long.
Why didn't he shoot?
why DID he shoot?
In order to kill the organization that was threatening his unit by rusing the fuck out of them.
Cause he fucking loved being part of the Wolf Pack.
we dont have this in real life but it would be easy to make. what the fuck are we doing
The animation is solid
the Character design errs on the realistic side
The attempt at being deep was fucking horrendous and the movie failed plotwise
but scene execution was fantastic
>Cause he fucking loved being part of the Wolf Pack.
He didn't love it, he was an animal. That "Do it now while you're still a beast." line was fucking amazing. A perfect contrast to the typical "You either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain" idea, and a perfect explanation for his condition.
Funny how the live-action movies directed by Oshii of this universe are really mediocre.
Patlabor 2 is better
Best OVA is macross plus
story really sucked dick, but it was superbly animated.
Why would you want to ruin it?
the red riding hood thing is cringey as fuck, yeah
but the characters, groups, and motivations of the m all are solid
Good lord could you be any more pretentious?
Found the dub for free on Hulu, is the dub good? I don't feel like downloading anything.
>The attempt at being deep was fucking horrendous and the movie failed plotwise
>story really sucked dick
>we dont have this in real life
It likely had something to do with the proportions of the kerberos swat suit things
and DAT MG42 SOUND HOLYSHIT
>Praise a great movie
Could you be any more of a hipster by hating on it?
See how easy it is to fling insults?
really, you think that the attempts at red riding hood parallelism worked?
Fuck even Psycho Pass did a better job of being Deep
The base plot was simple enough though, but I still have no idea why that one lady who LOOKED like another lady had to get involved, despite not really being affiliated with that one lady
I don't know I thought that part was all over the place
kinda like how Nina Purpleton shouldn't have become part of a Love triangle in gundam stardust memory
complete and utter pointlessness that detracted from an otherwise good drama
I don't give a fuck about how you like a mediocre movie, I give a fuck that you use faux upper class words to make yourself seem more educated than you really are.
Quite honestly Disapearance is still probably the best animation I've ever seen, but this is still A fucking plus of course. Sword the Stranger is top tier animation wise as well
The most fucked version of little rid riding hood you'll ever encounter
They fucking explain why she got involved. Were you just not paying attention?
>you think that the attempts
The whole wolf in human skin thing was pretty straightforward.
>The base plot was simple enough though, but I still have no idea why that one lady who LOOKED like another lady had to get involved, despite not really being affiliated with that one lady
All literally explained.
>I don't know I thought that part was all over the place
No, you're just an idiot.
Try working on your typing skills and your critical thinking skills.
>tfw you'll never see anything animated like this ever again.
Go watch A Letter to Momo, it's directed by the same person and has the same realist style of animation.
Patlabor 2 was better.
>faux upper class words
Nah, that's pic related
And now he results to UMADtier bullshit.
It's also fucking boring
>he results to UMADtier bullshit.
An appropriate response to
>I don't give a fuck about how you like a mediocre movie, I give a fuck that you use faux upper class words to make yourself seem more educated than you really are.
I seem to remember her becoming interesting for LOOKING like a resistance member, yet at the same time she wasn't at all related so there was no damn reason for her to get involved, so it's like they wanted to make a faux bridge
Kind of like how Key the Metal Idol never was a robot, AT ALL
Any review will tell you they tried to do too much in the 1-1.5 hour time that they had to execute the movie
compare to GitS, which had a similar time constraint and yet they executed the puppetmaster plot easily, thoroughly, and simply without alluding to some strange edgy rendition of little red riding hood
Literally no argument
Disappearance's animation is nice and all, but it's not the cream of the crop as far as anime movies go. The animation in Jin-roh is something really special.
What the fuck is up with that 30 gig download version of this ?
Can somebody answer me please? I've never seen this, but have always wanted to.
Jin-Roh's story is nothing special, the animation is god-tier though.
Disappearance had fantastic color contrasts and managed to make a bleak winter look utterly breathtaking.
the FPS, background, and subtlest of expressions, as well as scenes that recall nostalgic moments for fans or people who've already watched the series, all contribute to a great experience
Never watched the dub.
Overall save streaming for wanpiss low quality shit, this movie is better watched in 1080p with the original audio.
>Start swearing and criticizing word choice
>I'm not mad!
don't do it
no 60-90 movie should take up 30 gigs
The character animation in Disappearance has nothing on Jin-Roh's. The latter had some amazing cuts of hand-drawn crowds and a lot of the movements had a convincing sense of weight to them. Jin-Roh's colour palette isn't flashy but the muted colours worked well given the story and setting.
>Has amazing animation
>wastes it on scenes of high school and club room talking.
What a waste.
Thats the BD image you retards, obviously its going to be >20gb
Gee I don't know, maybe it says BDMV in the title.
It would've been good if it wasn't for everything between the first and last scenes.
Also it's BDMV.
Macross plus was better, Jin-roh can be downright unwatchable
I don't fucking care
point is there are smaller alternatives with equivalent quality
Sure I can pirate the Captain america Image for 50 gigs, but there's the movie itself for 5
is this rotoscoped?
Well whats the problem then?
Go download the one that fits you.
Ehh, when I think of great animation, I think of Yuukis face being reflected in all of the blood droplets and how it changes as they rotate. I've yet to see any animation top that particular scene
It was alright, nothing spectacular.
and there always is cosplay
I showed this movie to my friends about 4 months ago during one of out biyearly movie gatherings. It was far too slow for them and they didn't appreciate the plot.
Oh well. Next time its something with all gore and fanservice.
Seriously? Anon asked if the 30 gig download of a 60-90 minute movie is worth it and I'm saying it isn't
who the fuck downloads 2-3 episodes worth of animation in a 30 gigabyte package, it's fucking stupid and jin-roh isn't even worth a rewatch
>Praising the animation
That's like, the least interesting part of the movie besides the poor shading and mediocre story pacing. Have you never seen a Disney cartoon that wasn't made in the last couple decades?
Is this like, your first grimdark Mamoru Oshii movie? They're all written the exact same.
There was a plot?
>Seriously? Anon asked if the 1 gig download of a 60-90 minute movie is worth it and I'm saying it isn't
>who the fuck downloads 2-3 episodes worth of animation in a 1 gigabyte package, it's fucking stupid and jin-roh isn't even worth a rewatch
If shading is so great, why do Disney films utilize very little of it?
where did you get 1 gig?
If shading is so important, why do Disney films use so little of it?
>least interesting part
By quoting your argument if it was made 6 years ago.
Because it's cheap.
Just like Jin Roh's animation.
Right, enjoy your pretty stills while real animators actually strive to make things move.
He does have a point, although he expressed it in a kinda obnoxious way. I enjoyed and remember Jin-Roh much more for its calmer and quiet scenes than the action ones which I don't remember all that much. The atmosphere and score, I still do, even years after.
so you're saying that a movie made 20 years ago for digital format and bleached colors across the board could somehow reasonably fill all 20-30 gigs on a blu-ray disc?
The best quality Haruhi takes up 20 gigs and that at least make sense because it seems to run at a high framerate, with a modern resolution, but jin-roh? that shit is available on laserdisk
I think that statement just flew over your head, Anon.
He's implying that a lack of shading indicates cheapness, and since Disney films have little shading I guess it must be cheap too? Anyway, people who blindly disregard animation that uses simple shading have got shit taste in animation.
Yeah pretty much.
Analog film holds tons of detail in the grain.
I'm not doubting the quality of actual film
but I don't think any movie occupies an optimal amount of space
at most the movie files in a 2 year old bluray amount to 5-10 gigs, whereas the bluray itself seems to be locked with some phantom 20-30 gigs that are just unused
It was a great movie but fucking Christ. That animation was easily the most beautiful thing to ever come out of Japanese animation. Not only I.G at their absolute best but so fucking good that other animators not apart of the production should have questioned how they were able to pull off something so great.
[naziboo erection intensifies]
>The best quality Haruhi takes up 20 gigs
>[BDMV]The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya DL 40.31 GiB
BDMVs are always large. because they pretty much max out the bitrate they have available, why shouldn't they? they going to sell the same physical disk either way.
And grain eats bandwidth like Hei does ramen bowls.
Its all in the bitrate, the movies we watch are encoded to a lower bitrate both video and audio.
The BDMVs are untouched hence the fuckhuge size, you need the lossless source for the encodes.
Blu-rays aren't encoded for maximum quality vs filesize like fansubs. Since it's a lossy codec they bloat the bitrates to squeeze as much video quality as they can, using as much space on the disc as possible.
I haven't seen this movie but this talk about how sexy it looks is making it very tempting.
The animation is good but the film itself is amazingly good. I'd say it's one of the few true masterpieces to come out of Japanese animation.
Jin-roh is not a masterpiece.
it's an opinion is what it is
a killzone anime?
The animation is something pretty special. It's one of those few animated films where there's a strong emphasis on realistic movement.
Awesome. Getting it now.
so for the average person the lossless is a distributor's resource at best
sure non SSD's memory's cheap, but I still don't think Jin-Roh should take up 20-30 gigs on a hard drive
Boot camp has never looked cooler
nah, killzone copied this
I'd say you're an idiot overhyping things that will end up dissapointing people who buy into your hype.
Its good but its not THAT good.
Am I the only one who thought the movie was pretty damn mediocre, borderline bad? Sure it has a few nicely animated scenes, but the movie itself is pretty much a snorefest and not worth the time spent watching it just for those few seconds of well done animation. I don't get why /a/ praises it so much.
I wanted to watch armored men killing unarmored civilian scum. I was never ready for the little red riding Lain
I just got around to watching this a few weeks ago. I was surprised at how great it looked, even 14 years later. The metaphors and story telling was truly great. Very depressing ending though. After it ended I felt kind of empty inside.
I liked the use of Red Riding Hood . Often you see stuff try to do things like this and it just comes off pretentious and try hard. This easily succeeds at what it was trying to do.
alright /a/ now I want to watch this. wikipedia says it's the third of a saga. do i need to watch some other shit before jin roh?
>I don't get why /a/ praises it so much.
Its an attempt to look like something you are not. Kinda like Lainfags, only less pretentious.
Will I.G finally return to their glory days soon? I really loved these guys and their forward thinking back in the day
more like it easily came off as being tryhard, with a good 7~minute mockbattle and a mean 4 minute rampage
NHK did a better of job of having an impactful ending, you watch this to the end and you ask yourself, "did tomino write these lines?"
Why do i get the feeling the only reason you hate this movie is because of how high this place holds it up? And the fact they talk about it instead of talking about your favorite movie?
Stop being immature anon.
I think they're doing much better. After GC they hit an all time low, not financially but in terms of being a studio us anime fans truly respect. Since then though they have really got their shit together. Their last few originals have been successful and note worthy. PP's depth and legacy hangs on to what season 2 brings to the table. Starting off, Gargantia had everything it needed to be both a great classic and original show. But halfway through it started falling short.
They have a completely hand drawn movie that's getting a world wide release within the next few months. That's the next big step for them.
>After GC they hit an all time low, not financially but in terms of being a studio us anime fans truly respect
Speaking of GC. I remember some anon went to a con last year where the CEO of I.G was there. Audience asked him his thoughts on GC and he said he never watched past episode 10.
That has to be a fucking slap in the face to the committee
GC was just that bad. Not sure why he let them go through with it
dat feel you watch Oshii's Kerberos Panzer stuff
It's more about comedy and paradox than serious drama like Jin-roh
That guy with sunglasses looks chill.
no. they're all independent of each other
That's a really cool pic. Assuming that's in their studio?
sng and snk looked okay. PIG just need to develop good writers
Not even Oshii, in fact!
He just wrote the screenplay.
That and they need a director who's very serious and focused on making good anime. They have a few but the only true note worthy one that's around for the long haul is Kenji Kamiyama
actually I had a movie class recently and so I had to watch roughly 10 movies from 10 decades (so 1 90's 1 80's etc) and compile my thoughts on them.
I ended up watching Grave of the Fireflies, Schindler's List, Metropolis, Godfather Part I, Paprika, Jin-Roh, and Ghost in the Shell to name half
I liked the initial riot scene
I liked the Training sequences
I liked the Zeiram massacre at the end
but I honestly thought this movie sucked in terms of plot and execution AS A WHOLE compared to GotFF and GitS; it wanted to explain alot on several levels and it didn't need to
Some of the scenes and the sound design are utter gems, but that doesn't save it from being sub-par movie when compared to GitS, which as a whole had more of the strengths of Jin-Roh, with a less bleak color pallet, and Production IG really knows how to imagine cyborgs
I think you're just being a fanboy, and refusing to acknowledge Jin-Roh's flaws
