What does /a/ think of Shikkoku no Sharnoth?
What the FUCK is wrong with her hands?
i really liked sharnoth, it rates highly even when compared to western steampunk novels in how well it captures the setting, it's got every thought-provoking element steampunk has to offer
i thought sakurai's idea of adaism was great, i don't think any western steampunk novel has come close to it aside from riffing off feminism (and they never get it right either), plus adaism a lot cooler than actual feminism since it's merit-based and not entitlement-based
some parts were repetitive (sup münchhausen) but weren't too bad thanks to the prose
characters were all really interesting and the ending will probably give any /a/ regular many feels
music is p.good too
most tragic sex scene award goes to sebastian moran
Liked Inganock better, but Sharnoth was bretty gud too I guess.
What the FUCK is wrong with her hands?
She is a mutant
Moriarty was the shit.
Lovecraft was fucking badass in that one.
The man gives no fucks if it's for his waifu.
Why does he wear an eye patch? Is he a chundere?
More like cthulhu
Also, where can I find good quality rips of the Inganock and Sharnoth OSTs?
It felt too much like Sekien no Inganock for me to feel motivated to continue reading it. Also, that minigame got pretty annoying after the first or second time.
Why didn't Mary get the M?
It was nothing like Inganock save for the similar writing style, which is a given considering they share the same writer.
The repetition killed me even in Inganock, I felt it unnecessary. There was some character overlap I remember feeling too, but it's been too long since I played either for me say what it was.
Ah, that's fair enough.
I personally liked the repetition but it certainly isn't for everyone.
should I see it? X/10?
>I personally liked the repetition
You know, that's the weird thing: I can actually see how someone might like that bit, especially after another Anon pointed out that it was supposed to be like a children's story. Despite that it did absolutely nothing for me. It was neat the first time or two, then I didn't want to see it any more.
There isn't a anime for this
>You will never have a catgirl only you are man enough to fuck without dying
It hurts to live.
Read it maybe. You're in /vn/ right now, friend.
I'd say Sharnoth 8/10 Inganock 8.5/10. Both are good. VN though, not anime.
Also make sure to get the FVR version.
Eh, I think Sharnoth is a bit better with improved pacing over Inganock. Still haven't read the one that came after Sharnoth either tho.
Read Sharnoth first though. It came out later but the stories are unrelated (and actually take place more or less simultaneously as far as the in-universe chronology goes) and Sharnoth explains a lot of the world lore that Inganock expected you to get from an untranslated earlier game.
Unless you can read Japanese in which case read Celenaria first and continue in release order.
I found Inganock's setting and characters a lot more interesting though. (Not that Sharnoth was necessarily bad in that regard either, but Inganock had a lot of great characters, and Inganock itself was really cool.)
Why is Rita so based?
damn, fuck me guys
I still haven't gotten around to completely rereading the Full Voiced versions. Though hearing Gii and Ati (more frequently) in the first few chapters was amazing.
The VN is translated at least.
I think it boils down to whether you are a fan of that fairytale-like presentation or not. The way the series is written makes me think more of actors walking around a stage or yeah, a children's story rather than a regular VN.
It's a unique style of writing where VNs are concerned, that's for sure. And polarizing in the sense that once you read one written like that you can't bring yourself to read another.
best Sharnoth is clearly Winston
How is Celenaria? It not having AKIRA or the Inganock/Valusia artist initially put me off reading it, but then I read a review or two which basically said that although it was good, it wasn't as good as the rest of the series. But I keep seeing throwbacks to it (like in the Steampunk FD) and it's made me curious.
Oh god don't. I have never been able to read that last scene without crying.
And the one time I did I absolutely lost it by the epilogue.
Not sure, can't read Japanese myself. Most opinions I saw seemed to hold it as being generally not as good as the later titles, but I haven't seen it discussed much.
That song is the best eroge OP ever. Bar none. Fight me.
That guy was pretty cool, was kind of sad when he died, I expected him to play a larger part throughout the rest of the game
I love how it's the only one of the Steampunk OPs to have sheet music available.
Sharnoth is probably my favorite VN. I really need to get around to rereading it, but I keep putting it off because I want to improve my japanese more before I start it.
I guess I should get back to reading it. Only have a hour devoted into it so far.
I'll accept that.
Why would I fight you for stating facts?
Would you let Moriarty fuck you?
How come none of the WAB games ever got anime?
Fuck man, why? You'll only hurt yourself.
They saw what would happen with Umineko and decided not to let that happen
Their style simply wouldn't work as an anime. The real draw in the series lies in the writing and the character's introspection. The series in general is pretty nichey and nowhere near as popular as you'd expect, especially not enough to get an anime.
It'd also be QUALITY as fuck if adapted
That too. There's no way all dem textures could make the transition to an animated format and not look like shit.
You know, advancing the translated version in tandem or playing alongside a machine translator might actually help you study. I've basically been doing the same thing with manga and it's worked miracles.
They could make it work if they cared enough to.
Probably wouldn't though...
Maybe if they made it Gankutsuou style?
Y is there not more M-on-Mary porn in this world ;_;
Was what I was thinking too actually.
If they could've pulled that off, age would've had a decent studio adapt Muv-Luv trilogy oh wait.
ixtl a shit.
Holy shit, that would be perfect. Now I'm depressed.
Sona-Nyl is getting ported to the PSP/X-box very soon, actually. When I first heard the news last year I was mistakenly convinced that an anime was in the works.
I will never understand why Eclipse got animated instead. Never.
I think it's pretty obvious... Doing the main trilogy right would be a huge risk since there's so much stuff they have to get out of the way before they get to the payoff, and then if it flops afterwards they just sunk all those episodes for nothing, also pretty massive story in general that would require a lot of episodes to adapt. Eclipse was sort of a way to test the waters.
Because it was the easiest series to get mainstream viewers interest in Muv-Luv? And didn't involve the logistical nightmare of adapting the main trilogy due to Extra and Unlimited?
Plus it had considerably more content then Schwarzemarken or anything else. TE is fine, but the adaption was pretty bad. Add to the fact age/ixtl apparently did confirm in Kouki's twitter earlier this year that they were working with almost a literal shoestring budget and it become a botched project.
And just to reinforce, age is having such difficulties they couldn't even afford to pay Ono more then only for 70% of his lines.
>And just to reinforce, age is having such difficulties they couldn't even afford to pay Ono more then only for 70% of his lines.
What the fuck, seriously? I didn't know that.
Jesus. How are they even managing to stay afloat?
Good thing OnoD is such a Muv-Luv bro that he did the rest for free. Too bad that the TE anime basically killed any hope for a good Muv-Luv anime project.
AU CONTRAIRE: NOT LEWD ENOUGH.
For gods sake Mary was nearly the only woman in the game (except for Angie who was understandably too busy being love-love with her based husbando) who didn't get a piece of that good lovin'.
She is a proper Victorian lady. Being an eroge protagonist and finishing her own game with her virginity intact is a fine accomplishment.
Even the official art for Sharanoth is lewd as fuck, like main girl being topless blatantly with Moriarity
I believe he did it because he became fast friends meeting and hanging out with Kouki and also really identifying with and loving Yuuya's character.
There was also apparently a bunch of shit they didn't bother throwing in the anime. Minor stuff but it would all have helped in TE's early days when it first aired like Dougalu constantly smacking and slapping Yuuya for getting into arguments with Yui or being mouthy in general.
God. Everything was great, yet I still felt so terrible for her.
Yes, I loved Chrome Shelled Fellios.
I'm googling adaism except im getting nothing. Is this supposed to be some sort of philosophical concept?
adaism is basically sakurai's version of feminism, it's founded on the accomplishments of lady ada lovelace, a really important steampunk/historical figure who invents/engineers a lot of awesome shit in the WaB universe
Was this actually explained in Sharnoth, or is it in another game? I remember it mentioned but can't remember if they actually said much about it.
yeah, adaism got a full explanation in sharnoth
the concept is エイダ主義
Why was Charlie so gay?
Sharnoth was really atmospheric but at the end of it, I was kinda wondering well. There was kinda nothing else to it besides soaking in the atmosphere.
It was an alright read. Loved Mary's character but its too bad her and M didn't get a good ending.
Ada Lovelace got a hot lesbian rape scene with the protagonist of Celenaria, too.
RIP in peace Bram
Go read the webnovel.
He was only worried about his waifu too.
Is it official or is it just fan fiction?
Remember when /jp/ actually was the VN board of 4chan? When the topic of the medium wasn't split between a multitude of different places?
I tried to read it, I really did.
But holy shit it was just SO REPETITIVE. At least 1/4th of every chapter was THE SAME DAMN TEXT.
The Baron sits in his room of masks. The steel dragon beneath britain stirs (or something). Mary runs to safety. Metacreature wants the eye. M does a lot of weird stuff then eats the metacreature.
REPEAT REPEAT REPEAT REPEAT
There is this key called "CTRL". It lets you skip text very quickly. Thats really the only big repetitive part though.
I should not be obligated to use the skip function in any visual novel, it is EXTREMELY poor writing and pacing.
I just finished the first chapter of sharnoth, does it get better from now because i felt like nothing is going on.
also that mini game was so unplayable
>also that mini game was so unplayable
you might as well drop it now.
The repetitiveness is supposed to give it a poetic kind of feel. If you dislike it, just skip it or just stop reading; like you did. You can't say it has poor writing and pacing because you've only read a small fraction of the entire novel.
The only reason why you are in this thread, is because you found it somewhat entertaining enough to discuss about it.
I did stop reading. I am complaining about the element that convinced me to stop reading. The element that I was exposed to was an example of poor writing and pacing, it was not a statement in regards to the entirety of the writing.
I can validly criticize the parts I did experience, thank you.
I got a 100% savestate so I didn't have to play those games
>also that mini game was so unplayable
I got through them with a 100% completion. I regret everything.
Fuck those games.
It was neat in concept, but executed so very horribly.
theyre literally fucked up
so fuck off
God damn I liked Ati.
Her boobs were ginormous.
